OWB parameter Settings
Hi ,
I have one issue while running the etl in OWB 9.0.3.
When i run the etl for 50000 records, it gets completed in 4 minutes.
When i run it for 100000 records, it takes more than 1 hour.
I have set the operating mode as "Set based fail over to row based", bulk size as 50 and commit frequency as 50.
Please tell me, what should be the exact value to be set for Bulk size and Commit frequency?
Vimal
Hi Vimal.
Well, you know there isn't a "magic number" to fix things for you. You'll have to trace this process and see if the performace problem appears when reading or writing data. I usually use statspack for that.
In "set based fail over to row based" operating mode, OWB tries to load data using set based. If it fails, then OWB try again using row based code. Maybe that's why it takes longer when you select more rows.
For more info about operating mode, see:
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/html/B10996_01/11config.htm#1112964
Increasing the commit frequency would help performance if you were using row based mode. If you want to increase value for "Commit Frequency" parameter you'll have to alter operating mode to row based.
Hope I've helped.

Marcos

IDES IS GETTING UP AFTER PARAMETER SETTINGS-----DAMN URGENT
hi frnds,
i made parameter settings in the spfile in the IDES SERVER as,
ALTER SYSTEM SET parallel_threads_per_cpu=2 SCOPE=SPFILE;
commit;
ALTER SYSTEM SET parallel_max_servers=10 SCOPE=SPFILE;
commit;
ALTER SYSTEM SET replication_dependency_tracking=TRUE SCOPE=SPFILE;
commit;
from the next second onwards my ides system's dispatcher is stopped and the ides system is not getting up.
now i want to delete these parameters so that i can make the ides system up.
i want to delete these parameters completly from the database..
WHICH COMMAND IS USED TO DELETE THEM COMPLETELY FROM THE DATABASE.Hello. Read Note 601157 - Oracle9i: Server Parameter File -->

MaxDB Version 7.6 parameter settings
Hi
We implemented SAP Content Server 6.40 on Solaris and MaxDB 7.6.3 with Build 05.
Can you please suggest on whether we can implement u201CNote 814704 - MaxDB Version 7.6 parameter settings for OLTP/BWu201D on SAP Content Server 6.40 (MaxDB 6.6.3 Build 05).

Parameter settings for windows - Note
Hi,
Can anyone help me to know the SAP note number for default Parameter settings for windows .
I want to verify all the parameter values.I tried to find out the number, but no luck
We have severe performance issue in our D01 and Q01
Thanks is advance.
Regards,
PrakashHi,
Most of the performance parameters are OS independent. You need to check ST02 and check most of the SWAP comings in which area and there you can click on detail analysis menu which will give you parameters for the buffer settings. You need to adjust these parameters in instance profile in RZ10.
Also, if your database is oracle10g then make sure that SAP note 830576 should be implemented.
Thanks

Storage Parameter Settings for Cube
Hi , Thank alot for such a wonderful suggestions, We have 25 millions of records going to cube so for high load performance on cube Can you check and help me Data Base Storage Parameter Settings. can you tell if
Fact Table
<b>1. Data Class for fact tables is DFACT or should i change to any other
2. Size 4 >150 MB or should i change to any other</b>
Dimension Table
<b>1. Data Class DDIM or should i change to any other
2. Size 0 <500 K or should i change to any other</b>
Help me with this.
Thanks
Poonam RoyHi,
I don't think that we need to some extra settings at cube , if want to go with Acceletor.
I am not able give good info on it,because I have not yet worked on it. But if you spend some time to go through all the mentioed links,Definately You would not have any doubts on it.
Also refer the help link:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/a8/48c0417951d117e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
If you donot have chance to use acceletors, then I suggest you think about Data marts (no of cubes with same structures and with ssame datasource) which holds physically have different range of data. And then use a Multi provider upon it.
And also use Cache methodology for the reports built on these cubes. And use precalculattion to heat up the cache.
Also check the 1025307 note.

Determining OS Kernel parameter settings in HP ITANIUM
Hi
Can any one help me out to determine the depedant OS kernel parameters settings in HP IA-64 for Oracle database 10.2.0.4 after increasing the processes parameter value in the database level .
As after increasing the processes parameter to 10000 , we are getting n number of issues related to one or the other OS kernel parameter , so we want to take one single downtime and settle all the issues.
Regards,
Phani Kumar PHi
Acutally we already increased the processes parameter to 10000 by modifying nproc value to 30000 , now we are receiving issues respect to database as below and inturn there is problem in getting connected to the database giving ora-12502 error
Errors in file /ora/newdump/ACEPROD/udump/aceprod1_ora_4712.trc:
ORA-00603: ORACLE server session terminated by fatal error
ORA-27504: IPC error creating OSD context
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:bind failed with status: 227
ORA-27301: OS failure message: Can't assign requested address
ORA-27302: failure occurred at: sskgxpcre3
kkjcre1p: unable to spawn jobq slave process
Tue Jan 5 18:28:57 2010
Errors in file /ora/newdump/ACEPROD/bdump/aceprod1_cjq0_20387.trc:
So now we want to fix the issues by setting optimal values for OS Kernel parameter for NPROC value equals 30000.

AIX related Parameter settings...
This is related to BW 3.1C on AIX 5.2 (pSeries 690) and Oracle.
We are at 64-bit 6.40 kernel patch 66 and SAP_Basis and SAP_ABAP is patch level 47.
My question is specific to AIX related parameters as I am not able to find a very good information from notes.
I am reviewing a Earlly Watch report and not able to understand the AIX specific parameter.
Following parameters are my concern.
EM/TOTAL_SIZE_MB - 262144 MB (recommended 26301 MB)
ES/SHM_MAX_PRIV_SEGS - 64 (recommended 8)
ES/SHM_PROC_SEG_COUNT - 63 (recommended 7)
ES/SHM_SEG_COUNT - 4096 (no recommendation)
ES/SHM_USER_COUNT - 4096 (no recommendation)
ES/TABLE - SHM_SEGS (no recommendation and I understood the purpose of this parameter.)
ES/SHM_SEG_SIZE - 256 (recommendation 2048)
Our Physical memory is 32Gb and OS Swap is 26GB. As this is AIX, do I have to worry about the parameter <b>em/initial_size_MB</b>. it is set to 4Gb and we are planning to increase to 8GB. No recommendation SAP. but when you multiply <b>ES/SHM_SEG_SIZE * ES/SHM_MAX_PRIV_SEG</b>S, it comes to 16GB. So should I have to extended memory <b>em/initial_size_MB</b> to 16Gb or the <b>EM/TOTAL_SIZE_MB</b> will take care of it. I have read the IBM redBook that ES model ignores the <b>em/initial_size_MB</b> (Do not knwo what do they mean by this). Our model is <b>IBM eServer pSeries 690</b>.
I am just trying to find out the calculation/relation among these parameters to justify the team so that they are not off the limit.
Please help me and I will be really grateful to your advice.
Please let me know if you need more information.
I will appreciate your help.
Thank you.
SC.Hello SC,
To clarify further.
The relevant notes in one place for 64-bit AIX memory management
in one place are as follows for you kernel version:
#146289 Parameter Recommendations for 64-Bit SAP Kernel
#789477 Lots of Extended Memory on AIX (64-Bit) as of Kernel 6.20
#425207 SAP memory management, current parameter ranges
#153641 Swap space requirement for R/3 64-bit kernel
When settings mentioned in the attached notes are used for AIX
64-bit systems as recommended then only EM/TOTAL_SIZE_MB is used
for the total instance extended memory, em/initial_size_MB is
ingored and the only reason to set this to the new value of
note #95454 is for the SAPPFPAR information to be more accurate as
it is looking at value em/initial_size_MB as for other Unix platforms
that don't use ES/TABLE = SHM_SEGS. The value em/initial_size_MB
will be ignored for all memory management settings purposes.
Because I suspect that ztta/roll_extension is set to 2GB then
the current values of ES/SHM_MAX_PRIV_SEGS and ES/SHM_PROC_SEG_COUNT
are not reached. The note #789477 goes into more details about
these parameters.
If RAM resources are 32GB and no other instances is on the
server then the recommendation for EM/TOTAL_SIZE_MB is made
for 26301 MB so that this is the new pool for total EM for this
instance. According to note #789477 this can be higher in some cases
and even surpass the RAM but the Early Watch team have determined
that this is the correct value. Other recommendations should
be reviewed contained in note #789477 also.
In case of any errors similar to those of note #352604, I would
suggest you review the parameters mentioned there and in note
#789477 also about these potential errors that may occur in the
future for a heavily used instance.
The references to em/initial_size_MB for SAPPFPAR are related to the
segment count in total for AIX. This was very important for 32-bit
AIX systems as there was such a shortage of available segments
for pool 10, 40, SAPOSCOL and other keys. It was important to
get the sappfpar segments as close as possible to the real value
so that you could optimize the pools etc. I many cases the
recommendation was still to ignore the segment cound in sappfpar
and manually count the used segments but all this information is
redundant for you and doesn't apply.
There are no such shortages for 64-bit and so the value is of
little importance in this case. You should therefore set
em/initial_size_MB to the same value as EM/TOTAL_SIZE_MB just
so they match. The actual SAPPFPAR output for the pool 10 and 40
sizes will not be affected by this and therefore you can use
the recommendation here for the sizing of the parameters of each the pools.

Pull-down menu for Ring-Constants in module parameter settings?
Hey all,
I have a labview VI that has a ring-constant as a control. When I call this VI as an action in teststand and go to the module parameters, then I must enter in a number (I32) instead of having a pull-down menu containing my list of items. This is particularly annoying because I have to reference the VI to match a number to an item name. So far, the only way I've been able to get a pull-down menu in the module parameters is by using a enum constant as a labview control, but this doesn't work for me because the item values are not sequential. Has anyone found a way around this?
-RyanHello Ryan,
To my knowledge, there is no way of getting a Ring Control to show up as a pull-down menu in TestStand as with the Enum Control.
However, as a workaround, you could create an Enum Control that contains the same menu items as your Ring Control and use the Enum as your TestStand parameter to set the value of your Ring Control. Please see the attached VI. Set the Enum Control and run the VI. The Ring Control will match the Enum Control.
Let me know if this helps.

New Database parameter settings
I have a new Windows server with Oracle 11g, Windows 2008 R2, 4 CPU and 10 G of memory.
I had another server that had 2 cpu and 5 G of memory but the Oracle database was not utilizing the memory appropriately (I am also New to Oracle)
So I am setting up the new database to use 8G for the SGA and PGA this time on this new server. One thing I noticed in the last test of the application on the previos server was that the bottleneck appeared to be the Buffer cache hit ratio and shared pool....it also appeared to be extremely IO intesive however the network adapeter never spiked above 12%. So all of the contention was or seemed to be in the database.
With the new server should I increase the db_block_buffer parameter? It is currently defaulted to 0?
Any help would be appreciated. The application we are setting this up for is extremely cursor intensive and we cannot change the code.ofmdba wrote:I have a new Windows server with Oracle 11g, Windows 2008 R2, 4 CPU and 10 G of memory.

How did you measure that oracle is not using the memory properly? Oracle is not supposed to use the complete physical memory anyways. It can use only what is going to be set for it.
<font color="red"> I was watching spotlight for Oracle and the server perfmon counters and never saw any real work....Physical IO appeared high the total SGA area was 888MB and the appliation that goes against it is cursor intensive....at the time a tester was running a search and sort of 14,000 records and it took 18 minutes. My thought, however wrong I might be, was that the SGA could be sized much larger to take advantage of the memory on this server, and hopefully reduce the time it is taking </font>

Using the hit ratios to tell that there was a contention or bad performance is not such a good idea. If hit ratio was the only criteria that you used or had , I wouldn't call it a right move to make.
>
With the new server should I increase the db_block_buffer parameter? It is currently defaulted to 0?
>
This parameter is obsoleted and not in the current release of 11g but since 9i. So you should not bother about this parameter at all.
>
Any help would be appreciated. The application we are setting this up for is extremely cursor intensive and we cannot change the code.

So if its creating lots of cursors , it is possible that the application is using lots of literals and constants which can be reduced using the parameter Cursor_sharing. -
MRP Control Parameter Settings -Scheduling
Hi All,
Could you please guide me to understand the following issue:
MRP control parameter setting- Scheduling has two options 1 & 2.
Option "1 " states "Basic dates will be determined for planned orders"
Option "2" states "Lead time scheduling and capacity planning"
Here is my issue-:
If I use option "1" what are all the DATES will be considerd to schedule planned orders ?
If I use option "2" what are all the DATES will be considered to schedule planned orders ?
Thanks in AdvanceHi,
Option "1 " states "Basic dates will be determined for planned orders"
The order basic dates are determined from the in-house production time in the material master and used as production dates.
Option "2" states "Lead time scheduling and capacity planning"
lead time scheduling is carried out. The production dates are calculated from the floats in the scheduling margin key of the material master and the individual operation times in the routing.
Thanks,

Kernel parameter settings ,OS patches and packages
Hello,
We are going to install 11.2.0.3 on Oracle Solaris 11(Sparc 64bit).
There is no kernel settings information for solaris 11 in installation guide.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24346/pre_install.htm#CIHFICFD
Can we use the same solaris 10 kernel settings to solaris 11 ?
Also want to know the OS patches and packages for solaris 11.
Thank you,

Changing Parameter Settings in the NWA - MobileEngine.Config
Hi All,
When I make changes in settings for a certain Parameterset in the
Netweaver Administrator (NWA), not all value's of the parametersetting
s are changed in de MobileEngine.Config after a sync.
Middleware SP18
MobileClient: MI2.5 SP18 Patch 1
Which settings are changing and which are not and what is the reason of
this?
Steps for the Reconstruction
As an example I tested this for the timezone setting.
I changed the value of the timezone setting in the NWA. After a sync
this setting was NOT changed in MobileEngine.Config on the mobile
device.
If I do this for the setting:MI.Sync.ProtocolVersion the value changes
after a modification in the NWA and after a sync on the mobile device.Once you have made the changes are you stopping and restarting the Mobile Engine for the settings to take effect?
Some settings need the Java engine to be restarted, where as some don't.
This might be why some take effect and others don't.
On further investigation, Mobile Infrastructure is integrated into NW2004s.

PSAPTEMP default storage (Parameter settings)
Hi there,
I am trying to increase INITIAL and NEXT values for default setting of PSAPTEMP. Using sapdba version 9, under Tablespace, when I select the INITIAL and change value, the value gets reset to default 1024K. How can I extend these values. Do I need to drop and recreate or can I do it online.
Regards,
JeetDear Jeet,
first of all: don't use sapdba anymore.
It's not developed anymore and the recommendated tool is now br*tools.
See note
12741 - Current versions of SAPDBA and BR*Tools
for details
Concerning your question:
When you've got a locally managed temp. tablespace (as it is recommended) then the INITIAL and NEXT values should be identical and the allocation type for the tablespace should be UNIFORM.
The exact value for this parmeters depends on the sort_area-size used in the database.
The formula looks like this:
( N * sort_area_size ) + 2 * db_block_size
db_block_size is 8K in SAP systems and the N depends on the size of your PSAPTEMP (tempsize):
N = 1 : tempsize <= 2 GB
N = 3 : 2 GB < tempsize <= 6 GB
N = 5 : 6 GB < tempsize <= 10 GB
N = 10 : 10 GB < tempsize
All this - in more detail - can be found in these notes:
164925 - Storage parameter of tablespace PSAPTEMP
659946 - FAQ: Temporary tablespaces
Hope that helps.
