The best way to stop it is to get rid of the obsolete font.  Palatino 3.8 from 2006 should normally also be present as part of iLife/iWork and it works correctly.

  • Will not allow app updates on iPad2 and iPhone4s but will allow new apps

Updated iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.  But it will not allow me to update existing apps.  Does anyone know how to help? Thanks

Nope... Just joking what you could try to do is reboot the device hold off button and home button for about 5 seconds. If it doesn't work then go on to iTunes and make a back up of the device and then go to setting>general>reset (at the bottom of the page)>erase all content and settings.. Then once that has happened go on to iTunes and reinstall the backup..
    Thanks Dan

  • Mt iPad will not allow me to update my apps. My username and password are correct and I can buy apps with no problem but when I try and update it just says "cannot open iTunes"

My iPad will not allow me to update apps although I have no problem buying new ones. It says "cannot connect to iTunes" each time I try.

Same problem for me, too.  It happens on my iPad, iPhone, and iMac.  Weird because I have great Internet connectivity and I can log into and view my iTunes account.  I've downloaded three new apps with no problem.  But my iPad shows 14 apps needing updates, my iPhone shows 2, and my iMac shows 1.  In all cases, clicking on "update" and entering the password results in the message, "Cannot connect to iTunes Store".  It's the same result across multiple WiFi networks, even after resetting them.
I'll see if someone at the Genius Bar can help and then I will repost.

  • My MacBook Pro will not allow me to shut down it says it is still importing photos into iPhoto it also will not quit

My MacBook Pro will not allow me to shut down my computer.  Their seems to be a glitch in the iPhotos.  It says it is still importing photos into iPhoto.  It will not allow me to quit either.

You could always hold down the power button to force the MacBook to turn off. This is usually a last resort step though, but if nothing else is working and you are sure it isn't importing photos then you might consider it.

  • I updated to iTunes 10.5 on Vista. As with iTunes 10.0, The DEP will not allow iTunes to open.  WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE?  I can't update my telephone or iPod.  I can't even open the iTunes program!!!

I am sick of dealing with this issue.  I wish not that I had never even started using any Apple products, beginning with iTunes.  WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND MAKE ITUNES SOMEHOW COMPATIBLE WITH DEP IN WINDOWS VISTA?
That being said, Is there any way to resolve this?  What I did in the past is completely wipe ALL Apple files from my computer, and install an older version of iTunes.  It was at least functional.  It seems that any version of iTunes 10.0 or more recent is not compatible with the Data Execution Prevention in Windows.  You can not remove iTunes from DEP, yet DEP prevents iTunes from running.
The down side is that I can't get the latest updates for my iPhone or iPod.  Now, I have a new phone for my husband that needs syncing on my iTunes, and I can't do that because iTunes won't even open.
Can somebody help me out with this, please?

OK, lets do a complete overhaul to make sure it's working ok.
First to check your Windows system file for any corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
    Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and see if it is ok.
If it doesn't, will have to go through the whole process of uninstalling and installing acccording to the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
(Referenceinstructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components)
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • My contacts book will not open so I reset to factory settings but I still have the same problem what can I try next?

The address book on my iPad2 will not open although it did before I downloaded iCloud. Following the manual instructions, I reset the iPad to network settings but the address book will still not open. I would be grateful for any advice on what to do next.

Have you an iCloud email address? Try deleting it temporarily.

  • HT4972 My pc will not download the update and my iPad has no software update on settings/general. How can I update my pad?

How can I update my iPad?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • ITunes will not let me update to iOS 5.1.1 without deleting all my media. How can I fix this?

When I tried to update from my PC this came up:
"Updating to iOS 5.1.1 will delete all of the apps and
media, including iTunes Store purchases, on your
iPad. To preserve your content, apply this update on
the computer where you sync your apps, music, videos,
      and photos."
I don't understand because this is the only computer I use iTunes for my ipad.

  • When I open Firefox my homepage comes up (good!) but often a second page/tab comes up with an annoying ad. My pop-up blocker is enabled and there are no exceptions listed. How can I stop this?

I recently had a virus attack and have cleared them with Malwarebytes Anti-malware. This problem didn't happen before the attack. In addition to happening when I open Firefox, occasionally an unwanted ad will pop-up in a new tab while using Firefox.

Firefox can store multiple home pages, check to make sure that the ad site is not listed as a home page. See [[how to set the home page]] for details.
You should run a scan with some other scanners to ensure that malwarebytes did not miss any. Some scanners you can try are:

Tom, yes, this was it! I never thought to check other fonts, but it occurs with my old copy of Palantino and NOT in other fonts. Now, I have to replace Palantino or else reformat >100 documents with a new font. Thanks so much, and to the others who weighed in.
If you didn't already did, download the free trial of iWork '09.
It will install a set of fonts which replace most of the old AppleWorks ones.
It may be why I was unable to reproduce your problem.
@Yvan Koenig, Merci beaucoup pour ton aide, j'avais fait les mêmes tests que vous. I'll continue in English for the benefit of other readers. Do you use AppleWorks6 on a recent Mac OS? Because when I started using it in OS 10.6, lots of things broke (menu items stopped working) and there is a 10-15 second delay every 10 to 15 seconds during which the program becomes unresponsive. This makes it unusable for me. Do you know of a fix for these problems?
    I use AW 6.2.9 everyday under 10.6.8.
I got two kind of problems :
    (1) Running PPC code via Rosetta is more critical than running a true PPC processor.
So, in databases I can't click in a field if it isn't entirely visible.
If I do that, the application quits.
    (2) Applescripts must use the exact features described in the AppleScript dictionary.
For instance, the open command is described as requiring an alias to define the object to open.
    On a true PPC machine,
    open file "path:to:my:marvelous:document"
    was accepted
Under Rosetta it's rejected and we can't code :
    open ("path:to:my:marvelous:document" as alias)
    I must use
    --{code}
    tell application "AppleWorks 6"
      activate
              open my make_alias("path:to:my:marvelous:document")
    end tell
    on make_alias(a_path)
              return a_path as alias
    end make_alias
    --{code}

  • ICloud will not allow me to download my documents... Pages won't let me view them...

Yesterday I decided to start fresh with my iPad so rather than going through and deleting countless bits of info, I restored it back to factory settings. I had pages set up to back up my work to iCloud. I restored my iPad and then put Pages back on to it.  I tried to retrieve my documents from iCloud and they when they finally appeared they would not open (minus one very small document). They are all arranged in the same folders I had them before except without a thumbnail preview. they have a default pages symbol on them and will not open.  I figured that I could just go to iCloud.com and re-download them but I found them in the same state. They would not download in any format. Please help me! Finals are this week and ALL of my notes are stored here!
    Important Info:
I am running on a PC
my iPad is up to date
I have tried to restore back to old iPad (prior to restore referenced above). Same effect.
    -Stephen

You don't give any details about what you mean by "will not allow" so the following may or may not help, but have you tried the Windows Explorer method discussed in the following link if the primary method isn't working: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
There are 3rd party applications which claim to extract things from iTunes backups but I don't have experience with any of them.

  • The App store will not allow "sign in"

After installing "Mountain Lion", creating an Apple ID, and launching the App Store... it will not allow "sign in". It is like nothing happens at all. Sometimes it says "can not connect", sometimes it does nothing (no matter how many times I hit "sign in"). This is happening on the first 10 Macs that I have upgraded in my studio, I have 60 more???

Let's make sure we are on the same page. 10 Macs were all working prior with the MAS, and now after upgrading to 10.8.2, all ten have instantly failed?

  • I have an error 42404 message.  I have uninstalled Itunes, quick time, etc, etc.  I then checked to make sure that all files had been deleted.  I have 2 files that haven't been deleted and are still not.  It will not allow me to delete them access denied.

I received an error 42404 message.  I have uninstalled itunes, quick time, etc, etc.  I then went to check that all the files had been deleted, however,
Program files\common files\Apple - will not delete - it says folder access denied
program files (x86)\common files\Apple - will note delete - it says require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder.
How can I delete these 2 files so that I can reinstal Itunes?

You can uninstall the relevant extensions from Tools>Addons to remove those toolbars. Also there may be some unwanted plugins which you may want to disable. This should solve your problems.
If you still want a clean profile, uninstall firefox with the "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations" checkbox enabled. Alternatively you may remove your firefox profile folder which (on Window7) is stored in C:\Users\<your-username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles folder with a randomly name. You may delete this folder before installing a new version to get a clean profile.
