Party Bus Audio Advice Needed

I've got a city transit bus that I'm converting into a party bus. It already has existing speakers (6" I think) below the seats connected to an intercom system. I need some good quality speakers to interface with a CD player/Laptop/MP3/iPod and possibly an Xbox 360. I need some suggestions mainly for amps and a head unit that will work for me. Any suggestions?

Hi benjaminiknight,
Wow..I've never run into this before. My best advice is to stop in at one of our stores and talk to one of the install bay techs to see what their take on this is. There might be other Super Users who will have other ideas and will post on your thread as well. Hope this helps and party on!!
Thank you,

  • Advice needed on buying iphone as gift

I went to apple store, they do not want to sell iphone to me unless I sign AT&T 2 years plan. I thought AT&T has locked the phone and users must subscribe in order to use it. Why Apple store still not allow me to buy?
Please advice, if I want to buy online iphone for my brother, do I or my brother have obligation to sign out AT&T plan?
One more advice needed, I found the shipment takes weeks, do I have option to arrange for self-collection?
My brother birthday is coming soon, I need above advice urgently.
    Thank you very much

I'm guessing English is not your first language. It's possible that you misunderstood them. Apple Store employees won't refuse to sell you an iPhone and you don't have to sign up for service in the store.
    Well that's not entirely true.
Apple Stores have been instructed not to sell you an iPhone if any of the following is true:
    • You state that you will not be signing up with AT&T.
    • You do not have an ID from a US state, also indicating you will not be activating with AT&T
    • You do not have a credit card
For example, I've seen US Apple Store managers refuse to sell iPhones to European residents because of the AT&T lock-in.

  • Video intensive work on Mac Pro? Advice Needed

    Hi everyone,
I've been originally saving up for a while now for an iMac 24" as it offers the best specification price wise. But now I leaning on the Mac Pro and therefore need some advice.
I know that there are alot of posts on advice - need to buy mac etc. so therfore I would really appreciate if I am afforded some help.
I am mostly going to do ALOT of video encoding (via handbrake) and I am looking for the best configuration available to achieve lowest waiting time.

I think you should go back and look at the other threads with advice, your budget. There is "ideal" and "affordable."
Will it pay for itself in 24 months so you can afford the next revision at that time?
    Start with an 8-Core 3GHz.
Add a Port Multiplier controller and two drive cases, 5 drives each, nearly 400MB/sec RAID.
    Throw in 8GB RAM.
Add in costs for software upgrades, two sets of backups, four internal 500GB drives.
Seagate has 750GB, as does WD. Hitachi has their $450 1000GB monster.
Give yourself time to build, test, and optimize your setup, and expect to change it over time as you learn more.
Can't afford that? then trim the 8-core. But Apple has shown how efficient next generation applications already are for video when it comes to 3GHz 8-core Mac Pro.

Had to have a rebuild of my laptop....have now lost all my music from my itunes, but I can't transfer back on from my ipod. Also had to register my laptop (same) as another computers, so now no music showing as purchased, though I have. Also have hours of uploaded music from my own purchased, legitimate CDs, but won't transfer from ipod...it says it will erase. So very frustrated....thanks mr technician!    PLEASE  ....help, advice needed!

I believe that if you do a clean reinstall from your HD's recovery sector (D) or Recovery disks, the hard drive sector C is wiped clean. Everything goes, apps, data, address books, music, pix, viruses
    Is that what you did?

I am using InDesign CS5. I have a body of text which is ranged left with tabbed indents. My client now wants the copy to be justifed, keeping the tabbed indents. Help and advice needed please!

    Hi
That screen grab helps a lot. There’s a much easier way of doing what you’re doing.
Remove all your tabs and set the text in justified paragraphs.
I’ve typed in dummy text in the example I made below, but after “19.1” put in a space and put your blinking cursor after the space and before the ’N’ of ‘Notices'.
Then hold down the Command key and hit Backspace (on Mac at least - it’s the key between the Inverted commas/ apostrophe key and the return key).
The text will jump into place the way you want it to.
    Hope that helps
    Paul
PS You can set a tab, instead of using a space, in the description I gave above. So, after 19.1 or 19.2 or 19.185 etc etc insert a tab, then hit the Command Backspace after every paragraph number and they'll all line up exactly together. You'll find that editing text within the paragraphs
after you've set it will be LOADS easier this way.
You can put the tab anywhere you want it to be using 'Command-ShiftT' and putting a 'left align' tab just after the number. Just type the Command Backspace after the paragraph number and it'll work

In iPOD User Interface Mode for playing the Digital Audio from iPOD using USB, does the complete USB Audio Driver needs to be created or is it enough to set the sampling frequency of the USB ISO endpoint.

Hi! Did you ever find a solution for this problem? Bought an SB Li've! External just yesterday and on a clean install (Windows XP SP2) I'm having the exact same problem.
Edit: By switching the USB port from 2.0 (Hi-Speed) to "normal" (USB .x) in the bios I got rid of this problem! Hope this might be of some help to anyone!Message Edited by yuzz on -04-200706:37 PM

  • Advice Needed for Audio and MIDI Controller Software

I am hoping someone may be able to give me advice on how I should approach my problem.
I am currently running a live show with audio backing tracks and a small 12 par lighting system. The light system can be controlled via standard MIDI. I am using iTunes to play back sets of backing tracks, and manually controlling the lighting system using a dedicated foot controller.
What I would like to do, is be able to use software to simultaneously play audio files and perfectly sync the lighting (fades, shots, etc. via midi) with the audio track. Ideally, I would be able to have the audio/lighting paired as discreet entities that could be grouped into sets.
    i.e.
    Audio-MIDI_1 = Audiotrack1 would always be paired with Lightcontroller_MIDI_events1
    Audio-MIDI_2 = Audiotrack2 would always be paired with Lightcontroller_MIDI_events2
    Audio-MIDI_3 = Audiotrack3 would always be paired with Lightcontroller_MIDI_events3
I could the create a set of Audio-MIDI_x tracks which could be triggered in any order.
I would like to have to option to be able to activate a single track, or have a complete group of tracks activated sequentially (but be able to stop the and start the group as needed - you never know what will happen in a live situation). It would be nice to have a time-line UI as well.
Now the final requirement: it should be able to run on a PISMO PowerBook. <cringe>
I hope I am not too confusing.
I am thinking MainStage would not be the software for this task as Leo is not an option for the Powerbook.
I have looked at QLab and showcontrolpro, but I don't think theses are right for me either.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA

    Gary,
With a Pismo you really are confined. I've been using some software from Alien Apparatus called Solo Performer Show Controller (www.alienapparatus.com) and it has a timeline to sequence lights where you can run 32 channels of midi or dmx lighting. The only setback is it needs at least a 1 GHZ processor. There may be a company like Sonnet that has an upgrade for your processor.
The software is able to run backing tracks, send midi controls to effects units or other software, send hotkeys for apps, synchronize lyrics in a window or on an external monitor, controls a dmx fog machine, and also has a six button usb foot controller which can be configured for many things such as scrolling your songlist to select the next song, change volume of tracks, change a light scene, send a hotkey, trigger samples, etc. It is a bit pricey at just under 600 dollars but the foot control is durable, the company has excellent support and they listen to users to add features to the software.
    Hope this helps

  • Advice needed with Audio Punchin-in workflows for News

I'm testing a new FCP installation for a News Broadcaster and reached a major stumbling block with the recording of Voice Over in tight turnaround situations. Previously the broadcaster fully utilized the 'Audio Punch-in' functionality of Avid Media Composer but we are yet to find a satisfactory equivalent in FCP or Soundtrack.
The Avid workflow currently involves playing out our programme mix on Tracks 1 and 2 to our external mixer whilst simultaneously recording the Programme / VO mix from an external mixer on Avid Mojo i/p 3 and 4 onto tracks 3 and 4. They also record the clean VO from the external mixer via Avid Mojo i/p 5 and 6 to tracks 5 and 6. At any point the journalist could make a vo mistake so they would stop the vo recording and change the punch-in in point on the timeline and proceed to record over the required portion of vo with a defined playback preroll before the vo begins to record.
These tools ensure they can very quickly record vo and fix mistakes on the fly without the need for further editing. The broadcaster relies on this functionality for tight turnaround bulletins and without an equivalent toolset in FCP this could be reason enough not to make the switch to FCP :O(
To summarize they need the following features for voice over:
    - simultaneous recording of 4 audio channels
    - playing back the recorded track during pre-roll and then switching over to the inputs like a kind of EE operation
    - defining the tracks for recording and overwriting the previously recorded material if you record the same part again.
Has anyone on this forum found a way to record VO like this on FCP or Soundtrack? Any advice would be gratefully received.

    <Edited by Host>

Open the Help menu in FCP, and search the online user's manual with the words "Voice Over Tool"... FCP has something similar to Avid's tool... you can keep nat sound etc, and record VO right to the timeline window. Even do multiple takes. Video can be routed externally to a monitor in a VO booth too during the record. The talent can have a headphone as well.

  • Powerbook audio in/out: advice needed

I don't understand my 15" aluminum powerbook's audio in/out. I know that the input jack requires a far higher power signal than my nylon string Gibson solid body Chet Atkins CE guitar is able to generate, so I have to run the signal from my guitar through a pre-amp, to boost the signal high enough to allow it to lay a decent audio track into my favorite Macintosh sound editing program (www.felttip.com's Sound Studio.)
It's also vital to be able to simultaneously hear what I'm playing, while I record it. It seemed logical to assume I would be able to plug my Bose stereo headset into the headphone jack of my Powerbook and listen to what I'm playing while I'm laying the track down in Sound Studio...but the headphone jack is totally dead while I'm recording. However, after the recording is done, I can play the .aif back with Sound Studio (or, for that matter, with iTunes) and the headphones work great.
It appears that the Mac audio system is only able to do one thing at a time...either take in sound via the Input Jack, or output sound via the headphone jack....but not both, simultaneously. And it seems to me that having anything plugged into the input jack, deactivates the headphone jack.
Is this true, or am I doing something wrong....?

Without doubt the problem rests within the particular software you are using as the PB is indeed capable of "duplex" operation - i.e. it can output sound at the same time as it is recording.
Go into the preferences section of Sound Studio (not a programme I'm familiar with I have to say) and look for an item named "Playthrough" (or similar). Check this box and all should be well.
If you want to confirm that your PB does do record/play at the same time try downloading another audio programme (such as Amadeus) - when you hit the record button in that programme you can easily set the system for playthrough from the Settings area of the pop-up box.
Hopefully you'll manage to get things sorted out.

  • Advice Needed: Optimizating a PBG4 1.67Mhz

    Hello-
New to the digital audio/Logic world and am seeking some advice. I'll be using this machine as a primary recording device and would call the demands I'll place on the machine moderate for now. The more optimization, the better.
Its a PBG4 17" 1.67Mhz with 512Mb of Ram and am looking to upgrade it. I will of course upgrade the Ram, and have an external firewire Audio Interface, but have some questions:
    - If I have an external 7200RPM FW800 drive, should I boot from this or use it solely for scratch disk and recording leaving the OS on the internal 5400rpm drive?
    - What format should I format the drive (HFS+ WO Journaling?)
    - Is it best to use the 400port for the interface, 800 for large disk, and internal for booting?
    - What are the optimal setting within Logic?
    - Anything I should disable within the system?
    - Any other recommendations for system or logic configuration that will enhance performance?
Thanks for the help on this!
    - Mr. Bill

    PBG4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi Mr Bill
what kind of recording will you be doing? multi-track or just single takes?
I have a powerbook 15" 1ghz with 1gb of ram and from experience i would say most imoprtant ting to do, as you've identified, is to increase the ram!
i can answer a few of your questions:
i would boot from an external drive if i had the choice and run your samples/projects from a different partition of that external drive. Although in the real world i tend to boot from my internal and run projects from and record to ext.
you might be able to daisy chain - try it out see what works best, depends on your interface. would recommend 400 for interface, 800 for ext. drive.
Your optimal logic settings will depend on your workflow. Depends how many audio tracks you need, buses, aux's etc.
If you wanna use a space designer(reverb unit) on more than one track then put it on a bus and send the siignal from various tracks to that reverb. It's like sharing and will tax your cpu less!
keep your i/o buffer size as low as you can to avoid too much latency when recording, and increase it when mixing.
get used to freezing tracks...can really help out when you get the dreaded "audio error. disk too slow" message.
there are loads of little pointers - that's all i can think of now!
I would take out/off as many widgets as you can. i find they slow my system down.
turn off the setting to allow the powerbook's hard drive to go to sleep. turn off screensavers or any other bells and whistles that might drain system resources.
Make sure only necessary os applications are running in the background.
Enjoy having a lovely portable computer and you'll figure out so much more as you play with logic and the pb.
oh, btw, don't upgrade the os system to 10.4.9 yet - search for posts mentioning the .9 upgrade and you'll find much unhappiness with that and logic. I've got mine on 10.4.8 and it runs fine for me.

  • Advice needed on purchase please!

OK so I plan on making the switch to Mac! Using an old PC desktop right now and plan on getting a portable. The Mac will be my main computer for everyday activities like email, word processing, internet, but I also want to record with it. I plan on getting an Apogee Duet to use with a couple condenser mics and record acoustic guitars and vocals. I'll start with Garageband and hopefully graduate to Logic Express or Logic one day. I don't play games but I do have lots of photos to import onto the Mac and would do general photo editing on them. I also want to take advantage of iMovie and iDVD with little video clips. So...is the Macbook (black one) sufficient or do I need the MBP for what I plan to do? I don't want to spend the extra money if I don't need to...
Second thing - every forum/website I have looked at all highlight the same problems with the MB and MBP - disc drives sticking, fan and overheating issues, faulty displays and so on. It's got me second guessing my purchase but I really want the Mac to record with, and I'm sick of Windows. I realize every computer is not perfect but from what I can tell there is an enormous amount of dissatisfaction with these issues. What's more is that people actually seem to acknowledge the problems but oddly many seem to accept them just because it's an Apple. I really don't want to shell out so much money to experience a major problem after a few weeks of use. I live in a rural area and taking it to a store is not really doable for me.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is a troubleshooting forum. Therefore the majority of the issues you see here are due to the rare lemon, and people still facing a learning curve with computers not knowing what they are doing which may create more issues than solve them. Most people with Macs are very satisfied and don't see these issues. People are too quick to blame the computer or the operating system when the issue is they are doing repairs to systems that otherwise are not broken and then breaking them in the process. If they had just followed some simple rules issues like these would not happen.
So the best thing to do when migrating you to the Mac is to get you started on the right step. If you want to have room to upgrade to Logic Pro a MacBook Pro is probably wiser than a MacBook. You'll have more expansion room in terms of peripherals. The lack of an Express/34 port and a Firewire 800 port really weaken the strength of a simple MacBook when it comes to people in the audio and video editing industry. It is nice to be able to add drives to different buses so editing is faster. Express/34 SATA/II cards are even faster than USB or Firewire when adding an external hard drive.
In the beginning a MacBook is not a bad option, but given where you want to go, don't cheat yourself by only getting a MacBook.

  • I have constant K8N Neo2 problems advice needed. (long) Update

I need some advice on what my problem might be and if I need to RMA the motherboard or power supply.
I have a new Athlon 64 3500+ processor, MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum BIOS v1.3 motherboard, with 2 512MB DIMMs of Corsair Value Select Memory. I have had and am still having a series of crashes and lock-ups I will list below. FULL SYSTEM SPECS BELOW AT BOTTOM.
I initially installed the motherboard with a SINGLE 120GB hard drive from the old machine and the installed the memory in memory slots 1 & 2 to try dual channel memory mode. I then formatted the C partition and did a clean install of Windows XP Professional with SP2, installed the MSI drivers on the installation CD that came with the motherboard (Nvidia nForce3 Version 5.03 System Drivers, Realtek gigabit ethernet driver, Realtek AC97 audio driver) & the GeForce v66.93 video driver. I then got my first blue screen "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" crash, I ignored this crash and rebooted. I shortly got a black screen crash which I also ignored.
I then installed a new 200GB hard drive and a old 120GB so I could transfer the data from the old 120GB to the new 200GB drive. The data transfer went fine. As I was preparing to install some applications I then got my second blue screen "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" crash. Suspecting the Corsair Value Select Memory could not handle dual channel I ran Memtest-86 for 2 passes and got NO errors with the memory in dual channel mode, so I left it.
With my data backed up on the 200GB new drive I removed the new 200GB and the second 120GB hard did another clean install of Windows XP Professional with SP2, this time with Nvidia’s nForce3 Version 5.10 system drivers, the Realtek gigabit ethernet driver and Realtek AC97 audio driver  from the motherboard installation CD & the GeForce v66.93 video driver. I downloaded the latest version of Core Center and installed it and got it working. CPU temperatures were showing a low of around 29C, average of about 44C, and spikes at full loads of about 55-57C. I then ran Ghost to back up the boot partition. I installed all my applications, reinstalled the 200GB and 120 GB hard drives moved some data around with no crashes.
I then installed Rome Total War and played for about 2 hours and had one black screen crash after the reboot played for 4 more hours with no problems so I shut down and went to bed.
In the morning I got up started the computer let it run for awhile the CPU temperatures were in the low 30Cs to low 40Cs I tried to copy some files from the D partition to desktop and the screen freezes I waited about 5 min. with no change and no drive light activity so I hit the reset button. Upon reboot I got a ‘no system disk found” error, I went into the BIOS and checked the drive set-ups and boot priority, everything was correct. I tried for a half hour to get the system to boot with on luck. I used the Ghost to restore the partition image I had made earlier and still no boot. I finally decided to reinstall XP again put in the installation CD and when I got to the screen where you decide where to install Windows I changed my mind quit and bingo the machine boots into the restored Ghost partition???? I started to reinstall my applications got one more blue screen"MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" crash and another screen freeze that I had to reset.
So I decided to start from real scratch I removed the new 200GB and the second 120GB hard drive ran Killdisk on the boot drive, made a new clean 20GB C partition and did another clean install of Windows XP Professional with SP2, this time with Nvidia’s nForce3 Version 5.10 system drivers, the Realtek gigabit ethernet driver and Realtek AC97 audio driver from the motherboard installation CD & the GeForce v66.93 video driver. I installed the latest version of Core Center and installed it and got it working. CPU temps were as before.
I tested the memory with Memtest-86 again 2 passes no errors. Just in case I then moved one of the memory DIMMs to memory slot 3 out of dual channel mode and to a slower speed and ran Memtest-86 for about 20 hours with 21 passes with no memory errors, so I think memory can be ruled out as the problem.
Next I installed my applications I got one screen freeze that I had to reset. I reinstalled the other 200GB and 120GB hard drives. After I got all my applications install and Ghosted the boot partition. I have had one more one screen freeze that I had to reset.
I have a problem I simply cannot figure out. The memory is obliviously fine. While I have seen CPU temperatures spikes as high as 57C the CPU temps as reported by Core Center averages in the high 30Cs or low 40Cs and most of crashes/lock-ups don’t seem to occur during high CPU load/temp. The power supply might be a little light for the system but many of the crashes have occurred with only one hard drive in the system. The fact after one for the lock-ups the system would not boot for awhile and then magically just booted gives me concern there might be a motherboard problem.
Any solution ideas would be appreciated. Should I RMA the power supply, the motherboard, or both.

Would you say it's better but not there yet ? or the same ?
I thought the same as Ibn Quote
Your PS unit is a little weak for that much hardware, but I doubt thats your problem as well
