Please arrange BT to increase my broadband line ba...

Hi
A few months back I had a lot of broadband problems and my connection would keep dropping out etc frequently.
I`m on BT`s ADSL2 service and have a connection sync rate speed of about 4900kbps but the exchange (DLM) has heavily
capped my line banding+sync rate+line profile down so I can`t get anymore than 2.5MB and my line won`t sync any
higher than 3072kbps.
I was wondering if one of the forum mods would be able to arrange BT to increase my broadband line banding a little bit
more so I can get a bit more of my line sync rate back? because despite my previous problems are now gone and my connection
has been stable for months now, my line speed hasn`t returned.
Thanks for the response and help.
Sylver123.

it sounds like all your disconnections/resets have resulted in your line being put in a banded profile until it stabilises.  can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results.
are you connected to the master or test socket or somewhere else
do the quiet line test   dial 17070 option 2  should hear nothing   best done with a corded phone
Someone may then be able to offer assistance

    Dear all,
Any assistance with this problem would be massively appreciated. I'll try to keep this as simple as possible but as usual it's a long story.
We previously lived in rented property and used BT Infinity Option 2 with unlimited evening and weekend calls.
We have just purchased our first home and arranged to transfer the service with us. I was informed that there would be no fee to install a line as we had an existing contract. An appointment was made for an Openreach engineer to install infinity at the new address on October 10th, 8am - 1pm. Our service at the previous address was stopped from October 1st when we moved out/in.
Shortly before, I had an SMS message and a phonecall indicating a problem with the order. I rang and spoke to various people and it seemed that the problem was transferring the line from Sky (whom the previous owners had used). Eventually the gentleman at BT informed me that they would find a workaround and that everything should still be on for 10th October. I was also informed that we would not pay for broadband, line rental or calls for any downtime (i.e. 1st October to 10th if everything had stayed on track).
At 1.30 pm on 10th, I rang my partner (who had taken a day off work for the appointment). No engineer had visited. I logged onto 'My BT' and it said that a visit was no longer necessary as the line could be activated remotely. I considered that this could not be correct as from experience Infinity demanded a new faceplate and the fibre modem which we didn't have.
I then spent an hour on the phone trying to sort it out. The first staff member did not understand my point about the fibre installation. The second then informed me that there was a fault on the line and a new order was necessary (not reflected at all online). At this point I had completely pushed my lunch break to the limit and had to ask them to call my partner.
My first gripe is that after my partner took a valuable day off work nobody bothered to contact us to say that the visit was cancelled.
My partner informed me that a new appointment had been booked for 30th October. However, the order was to be expedited and we were due a phonecall on Friday 10th October to arrange a different and sooner appointment. The appointment for 30th now showed on 'My BT' under the orders section, replete with a £130 installation charge I was told we wouldn't have to pay.
Nobody called. We rang back on Saturday 13th and spent a long time on the phone to various departments, having to repeat security questions and tell our story over and over again. We eventually decided that we would simply like to cancel. The cancellation section then tried to scare me with cancellation charges and tranferred me to the orders department to try to speed things up and cancel.
At that point I was transferred to an orders section, somebody said 'hello' and then I was instantly on hold for 10 minutes (I hung up, slightly offended). I also spoke to a gentleman named Omar who completely failed to provide an explanation for the £130 charge but I left the call with the impression that he thought it was all my fault.
We decided that enough was enough now and we rang cancellations again. We actually spoke to a very helpful lady who informed us that cancellation would actually only cost circa £44 (much less than it would cost to stay!) and offered to waive the installation charge if we stayed. If all staff were as good as this person we may have considered it, but alas it was too little too late. The staff member cancelled our order and informed us we must wait 24 hours before the contract could be cancelled on the system so we would need to ring back.
On Monday 15th October, I managed to check my bank account (not easy without broadband) and found that my regular direct debit of £49 had gone out, but has been increased to £97.50! On My BT it states that £49 is adequate. Furthermore, my bill is in debit by approx £1.60 so what on earth can have happened to necessitate a nearly 100% increase? My first mortgage instalment is over two months' the usual payment and represents virtually my entire monthly wage so to lose £100 is actually quite financially devastating.
We have just finished cancelling our service. The staff were not able to adequately explain the direct debit or clarify when a refund will be paid and how much, and we have really lost the spirit to keep trying to resolve this through a call centre.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to effectively progress this as a complaint as the contact centre staff seem completely incapable of assisting with these problems. I consider that the following really needs to be accounted for:
    1. I need it confirming that the cancellation charges will be as stated and not more.
    2. I understand that cancellation fees are a pro-rata'd sum of the remaining months - we would have been without service for the entire month of October so I do not consider it fair that I should have to pay anything for October.
    3. I wish to get an explanation and apology for the large sum of money which has been taken from my bank account. Of course I fully expect that cancellation charges can be off set against this but it really isn't acceptable that this has happened in the first place and then no explanation given.
    4. Further to this, I need some money back! BT call centre staff were unable or unwilling to tell me when this will happen. I will shortly be paying overdraft fees and interest on this money; to be honest given all of the above I really feel BT should consider refunding me the entire £97.50 and waiving any cancellation fees, but realistically I know the chances of this happening are slim.
Thanks for any suggestions in advance,
    Chris

  • Will a new router increase my broadband speed in this configuration

How much (if at all) can I increase my broadband speed by getting a faster router. Here's my config:
DSL line --> DSL modem --> Lynksys BEFSR41 Router --> Ethernet cat-5 wiring in house --> TimeCapsule WiFi
The computers using this network are an Intel iMac (10.6), a PowerPC iMac (10.4), and two Intel MacBooks (10.6).
The modem/router are located in an in-wall distribution box in a utility room. I want to keep the hardwired ethernet available in case the WiFi quits temporarily. The TimeCapsule is in a good location (top shelf bookcase on first floor) for coverage of my 2-story house. In principle could eliminate the Lynksys modem, and use the TC as the primary router, but it would be difficult to physical locate the TC where it could both distribute to the house ethernet and have good radio reception.
Testing via the hardwire ethernet (using Speakeasy and speedtest.net) shows download and upload speed 1.27Mbps and 0.32Mb/s. My ISP is pacbell.net. I get the same result via my W-Fi. Speedtest.net tells me my result is about 40% of the average for pacbell.net to my zip code 94301.
I've heard there are much faster routers than the BEFSR41, but I don't know if my internet speed is limited by my current router or by pacbell's DSL service.
    Any insights would be appreciated.

Will a new router increase my broadband speed
No...your speed is only going to be as fast as your weekest link, which in your case is the DSL modem and the connection speed package you subsribe to.

  • Need to increase no of lines in smartforms

    Hi,
In the smartform for invoice customner wants to print address in detail. At present there are total four lines.Want to increase number of lines. What changes will be required to increase number of lines in address.
    Please help

    Hi Sharma ,
You can do changes in smartform. There is one field "Number Of Lines To Be Used' . This can be used for any partner Function ( Sold to party /Ship to party/ Payer etc etc.). You can change number of lines to be used .
Also priorities among the field can be defined for printing on smartform.e.g in customer master Address1,Address2 , address3 are maintained . Priorities can be set among them.
Please refer Standard Function module ADDRESS_INTO_PRINTFORM . In this function module formats od address as per countries are given which are standard.

  • ADSL2+ Broadband Line Speed

I have just renewed my 12 month home BT Total Broadband contract again (contract started Monday 14th March), and have always been very pleased with the reliability and quality of my (up to 8Mbps) actual download speed of around 4 to 5Mbps.
This time I was told I would have an (up to 20Mbps) actual download speed of around 14Mbps, which I verified using the BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker (ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 14Mbps, typically the line speed would range between 8Mbps and 18.5Mbps).
However, my line is now still yielding around 5Mbps, but I am aware of the 10 day, MSR, IP Profile BRAS, DLM, etc issues.    The bt.com speedtester has just yielded the following Test 1 results:
Download speed achieved during the test was 5281Kbps.
For your connection, acceptable range of speeds is 2000 - 7150 Kbps.
DSL Connection Rates of 7275Kbps Downstream and 888 Kbps Upstream
IP Profile for your line is 5500 Kbps
My point is : Surely the above Test 1acceptable range of speeds of 2000 - 7150Kbps, should now  be xxxx - 14000Kbps or higher, as ADSL2+ has a maximum speed of 20000Kbps and my line will support the 14000Kbps ?

This article from the Internet helped me to get my brain (what's left of it) round this problem. I hope it helps others too.
During the first ten days after the Broadband service has been provided, the line's performance is monitored, and the lowest connection speed is noted. This figure is used from then on to define minimum service standards below which the service can be considered to have a fault. Both during this period and afterwards, a system known as Dynamic Line Management (DLM) constantly assesses the performance of the line in order to provide information to the end user's DSL Modem/Router to allow it to choose a suitable sync rate, with which to connect to the Telephone Exchange Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), balancing speed against the risk of errors due to changing noise conditions. DLM can make adjustments to the DSLAM output power, suggested target signal-to-noise-ratio, and sync rate, and can choose to apply a technique known as interleaving, which aids error correction. Several factors dictate the sync rate, which limits the maximum attainable line speed, such as the presence of noise within the frequency spectrum used by ASDSL, but mainly it is the distance from the Telephone Exchange to the Subsriber, which has the largest influence on the line' performance.
    Questions.
Why are my Broadband Internet speeds now slower than the old Dial-Up service ?
Why is my Download Speed now lower than my Upload Speed ?
Why have my Down / Up Noise Margins doubled overnight ?
Why is the DLM system now assessing my line as so bad, after years of quality 5000 Kbps Broadband Speed ?
Why does the achievable speed top at 7150 Kbps, when ADSL2+ works up to 20000 Kbps, 14000 Kbps on my line ?

  • I came up with a way to increase the bottom line and increase public opinion of Verizon.

When the Verizon customer service staff read script to customers all day, they know all the details... all the small details.  The average user does not.   Some people use Verizon email for important email, and then other email accounts for less important messages.  There should be an option to pay a fee if the average user does not see any reason that Verizon would turn off email.  Other companies have email.
Look at the ads for the Discover card in the subway.  They read - Discover IT is New, IT is Different, IT is Human.  Talk to a real person anytime you want.  It will change the way you feel about ________.
What if Verizon changed.  What if all the staff of Verizon, knowing that their Midyear reviews are coming suggested change.  What if they could say "I came up with a multi-million dollar way to increase revenue."  I came up with a way to increase the bottom line and increase public opinion of Verizon.
Give the customer a choice to pay $200 for a one time transfer of email.  Then Verizon is a hero and makes money too.  Multipy $200 by the number of people who had to give up internet this month and that number has to be big!  Put that message on your midyear review.  Nobody can tell where it came from.  They will only know that you are trying to think of ways to increase the bottom line.  Who knows... maybe there will be a raise in it for you!  Good luck.

Oh yes, this is great – At last, I can see what I’m trying to do at least.  Appreciate your input so rapidly.  I jump on the link so rapidly that I failed to notice if there might be a set half this much.  I might be able to see it half this much increase like 100% instead of 200%?  Oh don’t get me wrong.  I’m not complaining, was just wondering – what if…

  • Will increasing my broadband speed help my Network Extender Perform Better?

Hello,  sorry if this isn't posted in the correct area.  I'm new to this community and couldn't find a Network Extender specific category.
Background: I live in a "low spot" and have shoddy phone service in my home.  As a result, I purchased a Network Extender about 1.5 years ago.
I've been limping along for some time with my 1.0 Mbps basic internet service but am now working from home frequently and taking calls though the day and if my internet is being used by anything else in the home (PC, iPad, Kindle - etc).  my calls either get really choppy or I drop the call.  Since I'm working from home computer based this is quite annoying and I'm finally to the point that I'm just going to get a home phone if I can't figure out.
Question:  If I increase my broadband internet speed to perhaps a 10 or 12 Mbps will this help with the strength of the Network Extender and prevent calls getting choppy and/or dropped?
Also, I should add that my current internet service is advertised as a 768 Kbps but speed tests say it's 1.0 Mbps.  Also - between my husband and I we've had several different phones on the extender and all are the same so I don't believe it's phone-device related.
Thanks in advance for any input, it's greatly appreciated!

Verizon says the minimum should be 1Mbps, so even though a speed test might show that you get that speed, going on a rated 768Kbps sounds a little risky, especially when there is any contention for internet.
I would also check prices.  What will it cost to upgrade the internet speed vs getting a landline (perhaps as part of a bundle)?  Of course, upgrading the speed might have other benefits unrelated to calls (once you surf at higher speeds it is very hard to go back).
Also, doesn't the network extender still  use your wireless minutes for calls?  If so, you might want to look into other VoIP vendors where you use a landline type phone that plugs directly into your connection. This will still probably need you to upgrade your speed to work well, but you may be able to reduce your wireless minutes to offset the cost of the upgrade and the VoIP vendor.

  • Encoder won't reconnect when broadband line drops out temporarily

I have a live 24/7 feed running trough FMLE. Regularly (about once a day) the broadband line drops out for a short period. Although FMLE is still running it seems a new connection is not made when the broadband comes back on.
Is there any way of setting FMLE to reconnect automatically?
    Thanks, Jason.

When this happens, right click on your network connection and select the "Repair" option. Then try your browser again. Let us know if this works, or if it doesn't. It will help narrow down the possibilities of what it could be.

  • My broadband line is used when i want to make free...

My landline number is working and i can receive incoming calls but when i want to make calls from that number using my free evening and weekend package i cant, it always diverts to my broadband number so i'm paying ?
I think its probably a connection / set up problem, i've got a bt home hub and use that handset, with a 2nd handset thats not connected to a phone socket
    Any ideas?

i had the same problem for just over a month i was being charged for calls when i had the unlimited option i rang bt several times to find out why this was and not a single person told me the problem.
Originally i had a fault and couldnt recive any incomming or out going calls so i rang bt on my mobile.  They fixed the incomming calls but still couldnt make out going calls so i rang them again and again this was fixed .... i noticed the dial tone had changed so again i rang no one offered me any explanation as to why the dial tone had changed they were simply more than happy that i was making and reciving calls.
Then my bill arrived WOW what a shock no calls were free!!! So  again i rang i got a sorry and my bill re funded but still i hear the unusal tone.  So i  ring again the people over in the call centre in india didn't know what the problem was and left me to it again!
Another bill came and yet again i was charged so i sent an email this time again they didnt know the problem.
I rang again and this time got a woman with an irish accent who told me i was making calls from my broadband line i said i didnt request this and i certainly dont want it.  she told me to press 5 on the phone that will take it away and it was MY FAULT  i was being charged and i would not be reciveing a refund on my bill,  in fact she was rather nasty again excellent customer service on behalf of bt.
So my advice to you is get rid of braodband talk and make sure u have pressed 5 on your hub phone and hear the normal dialing tone.

  • Can you please assist me in increasing the speed of my server

    hai friends,
i am using 4.7ee on windows Can you please assist me in increasing the speed of my server.....

    nice hint, but not usefull.
how you are going to set virtual memory???
the maximum virtual address space of a process depends on the architecture (32/64 bit) and - if 32 bit Exectuable - on
    - if running on 32 Bit Operating System /3GB and /userva boot.ini options
    - if running on 64 Bit Operating System: max 4 GB
as long as your application is able to allocate enough memory your pagefiles are sized sufficiently. If you add physical memory, you normaly can decrease the pagefile size.
1 GB physical is much too less. Depending on the number of users on the server and depending on the SAP Release I would at least recommend to use 4 GB.
    regards
    Peter

  • New broadband line - is this speed normal?!

Hi. I know it's early days, but since my new phone and broadband line was installed 4 days ago, the maximum speed i have achieved is 0.1mbs, when the bt estimate was 7.5.
i understand that there is a 10 day settling down period, but I would have thought we might be somewhere a bit faster than that by now! I was a bit concerned when the engineer installed the line, because he didn't seem to know anything about the order for broadband connection, didn't do any sort of broadband test and just advised us to phone the helpline for more advice. We had no broadband connection at all for 24 hours, so I phoned customer services who said the line had not been activated. They did that and the broadband service started, but at this very low speed.
At the moment my bt vision that we ordered at the same time won't properly load (I guess due to the poor connection speed) and I'm just concerned that things aren't going to improve.
Any advice, or is it just a case of waiting until the 10 days is up?
    Thanks in advance!

I've tested with 4 different routers (2 I had and 2 are brand new), 4 different micro splitters and 3 different ADSL cables.  I've tested on 3 phone sockets in the house and on the test socket on the primary phone socket in the house.... all 4 routers say there is no internet.
D-Link router - says "LCP No Response" when trying to connect (doesn't even get as far as authenticating)
Zeyxl router (provided by ISP) - solid red light indicacting no internet.
Apple Airport Extreme - the airport utility says that no adsl cable is connected...
Belkin N300 Router - solid red light indicating no internet
My ISP are insisting that everything is fine at their end....  The first BT engineer said everything was fine and left... the second BT engineer said that the line was fine but acknowledged there was an issue with internet access...
Any suggestions?  My gut feeling is that there must be something wrong in the exchange but I am starting to feel a little bit caught between ISP and BT.
    thanks

    hi
this forum is for Bt residential broadband customers our ISP and the only BT employees are the mods the rest are BT broadband customers trying to help other customers.
Your problem appears to be with your ISP and BT openreach and the only way to get help is via your ISP who are the only people that can contact BT openreach/wholsale on your behalf

  • HELP please in deciphering these Broadband line sp...

    Hi Everyone
This is my first post so please be gentle with me!!
I have been in my present property for a couple of months and decided at the weekend to see what speed it was getting for my internet (please excuse terminology but I am a not a techie).
I ran speedtest and got a download speed reading of 2.4 megs. I used to get 6 megs at my old address so I delved a little further.
To cut a long story short I believe that my line is capped to 2.5 megs. My download speed is always around the 2.4 megs which is OK but I was informed that it could be up to 7 megs when I took over the line at the end of May. I have ran the BT speedtest and also attached info from my Homehub.
I have contacted the call centre a number of times now but seem to be getting no where. They have had me unscrewing sockets, changing filters, even my router etc but to no avail. However surely this is only if the problem was with internal wiring. If the speed of my line is capped nothing I do with my set up will make a blind bit of difference.
I would be eternally grateful is someone could cast an eye over the results and see if my original assumption of the line being capped is correct. The BT Speedtest results were run at peak time last night (keep getting error message when I try today) hence the slowness in the download speed.
    Very Many Thanks.

  • Increase in monthly line rental charges without no...

I have been with BT for a year now on the Unlimited Evening and Weekend plan.  When we signed up a year ago, we just wanted basic line rental, but for some reason were given the Evening and Weekend plan at the same cost.  Knowing that our year's contract was due to finish soon, we thought about leaving last month to go with a rival company charging us less, but decided to stay with BT to avoid the hassle.  We have just recieved the first bill for the next year of our contract, and found that we are now being charged £3 a month more than last month (£16.60 instead of £13.60).  It seems we are now paying the full price for the Evening and Weekends plan, despite never having requested this service in the first place.
Frankly, we cannot afford this increase.  We were not given any notice of this increase, or sent any information warning us that if we wanted to leave it would have to be done before 25th March.  I do not want the Evening and Weekend plan, but I know that BT will not let us out of our contract until next March.  How can i change our contract so we are paying the same line rental as we were before?
I would like to say that I think it is extremely unethical to enter people into new contracts automatically without making them aware of the costs and terms.

Seems that the 1st contract would of been an package offer of some sort, when you renewed they simply continued the same package but put you onto full (normal) prices. Standard practice if you don't try and negotiate a deal, worth trying to speak to sales. Thaye should of talked you through the new contract price if you phoned them to renew. if it was a auto renewal advised (iirc) one month in advance then I would of thought it would have the new contract prices on the paper/email (that they should of sent)
