  • Camera Raw Workflow Settings - where?

    Hi!
In Bruce Fraser's and Jeff Schewe's "Camera Raw with .. CS3", p 134, a dialogue box Workflow Options is shown. Likewise, Photoshop CS3 Help > Camera Raw > CR Settings > CR Workflow Options promises "You can see and change these Workflow settings at the bottom of the Camera Raw dialog box."
I wonder which dialog box the text is referring to. I can not see the Workflow dialog box at the bottom of the dialog box shown in Bridge > Camera Raw Preferences, nor in Bridge > Preferences, nor in Photoshop > Preferences, nor in Photoshop > Edit > Color Settings.
All the entrances on the Adobe site only lead me to the same PS Help document.
It would indeed be useful to be able to specify e.g the bit depth as a default, because the PS default seems to be 8 bit (PS > Image > Mode), so I have to remember to set it to 16 for every single image anew.
    I use Mac 10.4.11 on a MacBook Pro, 2GHz processor, 2GB RAM , PS CS3, ACR 4.5
    Thanks for help! Hening.

    >Well, the save button is alongside the hyperlink (to it's left) and that opens a fresh panel to allow various options to be set, so I find the explanation advanced by the ACR Team bit hard to understand.
You running a display at 1024 x 768? Because that's Camera Raw's real estate minimum that HAS to be supported...so what you can do in a dialog whose display ends up at a much higher resolution is severely limited because of the minimum requirements. That's why...

  • What permissions does a user need to be able to access a document library's workflow settings menu?

A group has created some out of the box SP 2010 workflows in a standard document library.
Some users have the "Workflow Settings" icon available to click on, but other staff only see a grayed out icon.
I have been trying to determine what change is needed to a user's access to the library so that they can add or access workflows.
    Thank you

I believe it is the "Manage Lists" permission that they need. Owners and Designers permission levels have this by default.

  • Best way to configure Photoshop workflow settings when source photos are shot in AdobeRGB, edited using a wide gamut display, and output to sRGB?

Being able to quickly produce finished photos is of importance with the majority of my photography work. Therefore I shoot, process, and deliver JPEG files. For this time sensitive workflow there is no benefit to my clients by my shooting RAW. I do want to be able to accommodate any possible future uses of the photos, so I shoot using the Adobe RGB color space. The output for my clients are JPEG images for use on the Web, therefore sRGB. I currently used a wide gamut display (NEC PA302W) with a 24-bit graphics card. (I plan on upgrading to a 30-bit card sometime in the future.)
I've noticed that in Internet Explorer the reds in my finished photos are overly intense on my display. My photos look fine in other web browsers on my display. This situation has me concerned as I do not know exactly why it is happening since my photos have the sRBG color profile embedded and IE supports embedded color profiles. If anything, I would think the reds would be overly intense in other applications that do not support embedded color profiles.
Please let me know if my workflow can be improved, outside of shooting RAW and using a 30-bit display:
Shoot JPEG photos in Adobe RBG color space
Edit photos in Photoshop using wide gamut display, 24-bit
Color Settings: Monitor Color (Monitor RGB -  PA302W, calibrated)
Save for Web, JPEG, Embed Color Profile, Convert to sRGB
While working in Photoshop the reds appear fine. When saving for the Web and previewing 'Monitor Color' the reds are intense, when previewing 'Internet Standard RGB (No Color Management)' the reds appear fine. The final saved images look fine with the exception of when displayed in IE, which supports embedded color profiles- Color Management.

You're rapidly making a mess out of this. Stop, sit back, and stop thinking there's a "problem" to "fix". There isn't - you just need to use software that is color managed. That disqualifies IE right off. Stop using it, throw it away. It's useless with wide gamut displays. Use Firefox, which has proper color management.
OK. Save For Web in sRGB, embed profile. So far so good. But:
Don't ! set your working space to Monitor Color!. That turns off display color management which is the very last thing you want with a wide gamut monitor. You could sort of get away with that with a standard gamut monitor, because it's not all that different from sRGB anyway. So you wouldn't notice the difference (but it's there). The fact that your Adobe RGB files look right in Photoshop is purely coincidental. Any other profile will look wrong.
With a wide gamut display you absolutely and unconditionally need a fully color managed pipeline. That means 1. an embedded document profile, 2. a valid display profile (Spectraview or other calibrator), and 3. an application that reads both profiles and does the conversion from one to the other as the image is sent to the display.
See, it's not just the document profile. That's half of it. The other half is the display profile. IE doesn't use the display profile, instead substituting sRGB. And that's very wrong with that monitor. Firefox is fully color managed if there is an embedded document profile. But it can be configured to color manage even if the image is untagged (and a lot of material on the web is untagged). It does this by assigning sRGB to the image.
To configure this - and you really need that with a wide gamut monitor - type "about:config" without the quotes in the address bar and hit reload. Scroll down to gfx.color_management.mode, and change it from 2 to 1. Relaunch. All web material will now appear correctly regardless.

  • Need Help! Encore/PRPro 5.5 Slideshows w/ stills & videos: Best workflow/settings?

Warning! Rookie here--I apologize ahead of time for the forthcoming dumb questions!
Gear: 4 month old iMac, 12GB RAM, Lion. CS5.5 Master Collection.
    First, my goals:
*Take 4-500 large DSLR stills (shot in 24MB RAW and JPEGs from 6-17 or so MBs with some Sony panorama shots sprinkled in) and 20 AVCHD/Sony HD videos (only 10 to 30 seconds long and labeled as ".MTS" files) and create a slideshow with the videos interspersed among the stills.
    *No audio, manual advance.
*Create high quality file from Blu-Ray setting for playback over Apple TV from iMac or iPad 3 to LED HDTV (1920 x 1080, I believe).
I've watched Lynda.com's tutorials regarding Encore CS.5 the past few days (watched the Premiere Pro course a while back for just a very short video DVD and I did OK--but no stills/no slideshow), but I'm quite confused and frustrated. For example, I tried to import the stills as assets and got an error message saying I didn't have the right software, leading to having to hit "return" for a few hundred error messages!
After lots of google searches and searching this forum, I surmised my files sizes are too large. OK, but that's about as far as I got for this stage. Then I saw Bill Hunt's article on workflow and about converting all stills to .psd files, so that may be next...?
But I would really like somebody to walk me through things that are still confusing given I am not familiar with all the terminology and things such as pixel/frame sizes etc.
Given my goals, what would be the best workflow/course of action? I don't need every detail given that I have the Lynda.com tutorials, e.g., I have some menus set up from a background image with text that I made in Photoshop and I get the linking procedure for creating buttons that work once the image is a item in Encore.
The main questions, I guess are:
    1. What should I do with with my stills to get them into Encore? Should I do as Bill says and make them .psd files? How do I then get Encore to accept them as assets? I'm really confused about the sizes to use during conversion--4:3 vs. 16:9 and/or 720 vs. 480 vs. HD sizes (1000 x 750?!). I gather this should be done in Photoshop, but not clear how, exactly. (My head's about to explode reading up on file types, sizes, pixels, for the slideshows with stills and videos blah, blah, blah....).
    2. How do I get my short videos into Encore? Do I create a timeline in Premiere Pro first? Should I create a timeline or sequence with both stills and videos in Premiere Pro and use the import sequence feature into Encore?
    3. Where are the stills and videos best interspersed--Encore or PRPro?
    4. Given Encore will only create slideshows of 99 stills, once I create multiple slideshows in the project panel, am I correct that I link to the second, third, etc. slideshows with "end actions" and the viewer will see a seamless transition? I plan on using some chapters for different sections of a 10 day vacation, so will there be any conflict with the multiple slideshow transitions?
Thanks so much for your help! This trip was a dream come true as I hadn't had a vacation in 12 years and I was finally able to take my now teenage boys on a proper wilderness adventure a few weeks ago! I would really like to be able to show everyone a nice slideshow and eventually give the boys a Blue-ray disc they will always have as a keepsake etc. In other words, lots of emotion wrapped up in this one.....thanks again!

    1. Your images are square pixels, Blu-ray (BD) is square pixels, keep your images square pixels when you resize them.  That means a Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) of 1.0.  Fortunately, PS defaults to square pixels.  As for the frame size, the video will be the limiting factor if you want it interspersed with the stills.  Determine the frame size and frame rate of the video that was shot and use that as the basis for resizing your stills.  If you don't plan on doing any panning/zooming, then you resize your stills to match the video frame size (1920x1080 or 1280x720 are the likely choices).  If you plan on mild panning/zooming, then increase the size of the resized stills by roughly 30% in both dimensions.  More dramatic panning/zooming will require a larger increase in frame size; just don't go over 4000 pixels in either dimension.  And remember that video work makes any DPI or PPI value irrelevant.  The video frame size is exactly what it is, in pixels.  No more, no less.
    2. and 3. If you want video mixed in with stills, then you'll have to put them all together in a Premiere Pro timeline before sending them to Encore.  Unfortunately, that makes the manual advance feature you want problematic.  It can be done, sort of, but it probably won't work the way you expect.
    4. If you use Pr to create your stills/video timeline, there is no 99 slide limit.  Make the Pr timeline seamless and it will remain seamless in En.  If you do a slideshow in En, then moving from one 99-still slideshow to another will not be seamless.
NB: the key to your project will be planning.  Take and old-fashioned pencil and paper and layout how you want the audience to view the finished BD.  Do you want just the main program?  Do you want quick and dirty slideshows of just still images that they can access by menu?  And so on.  You can make *almost* any navigation scenario work in En, but you need to know beforehand how you want the audience to get from here to there and back again.

  • Workflow Settings User Cannot Be Found

This week I have removed some orphaned users from SP 2010 that no longer existed in AD.
Now a workflow has stopped working, it's a basic one that just sends an email when a new item is added to a list.
I've opened the 2 workflows in SPD and can't find any reference to the old owner nor can I find the old user in the "email to" field so it's not like any user validation fails there.
The error is below - surely I need to look elsewhere in the workflow for this deleted user?  I have tried ooking at workflows at the site collection level as well in SPd, to no avail.

I assume when you say you removed some orphaned users what you mean is that you removed them from the Site Collection Users list.  When a user is deleted in AD their Profile is removed, but their entry in the user list is left in place for history.
If you manually remove it then you'll get an error when you click on the user name in a Created By or Modified By field.  You'll also see these kinds of issues with things like workflows.  I assume the user you removed is the one who published
the workflow.  As such they are the owner and may be referenced for external actions like sending an email.  The only way I know of to fix it would be to edit the workflow as a valid user and re-publish it as a new version.  You may actually
have to delete the old one and publish it again as a completely new workflow.

  • Settings for Substitution in SBWP Workflow Settings !!!!!

    Hi Gurus,
I am using ECC 6.0 Basis Release 700. In our system, i observed that Multi-level delegation(substitution) is working like below:
Let us say A maintains B as substitute and B maintains C as substitute. If D is reporting to A in the Org. structure and sent an approval witem to A, it is coming to B, but not to C. But if D is reporting to B, then it is coming to C as well. From this what I understand is that the workitems for which B is supposed to act On Behalf of A, he cannot or not able to delegate or send them to his delegetee(here C).
Is this the way it is suppose to work ?. If yes, can anybody tell me where these settings are made / maintained.
Please rely to this urgent message with your valuable inputs.
    Thanks in advance
    venu

Yes, this is the way it is supposed to work. I think it is even documented specifically that substitutions are not "chained", but right now I am too lazy/busy to find the documentation for you.

I don't think there's any standard functionality for preventing you from forwarding a work item you received as a substitute. It would contradict with the whole concept I believe. When you are a substitute you are filling in for someone, which means you should be able to do whatever the other person would be able to do.
Better solution: tell them you'll force them to use Windows Vista on a PC with 1 GB of RAM unless they quit forwarding everything. That ought to put the FOA (fear of administrator) in them.
