Policy concerning dead pixels

Hi,
I have had an iPod Classic 80GB since October 2007. It seems there's one dead pixel in the bottom of the screen. It's quite annoying because it stays white all the time and it's just in the area of the cover art. Can I ask a repair? I tried to find a contact e-mail to Apple Support to ask them directly but I couldn't find one, at least on the belgian Apple website (www.apple.be/befr/contact).
Thanks.

With the sony PSP, they specifided that you need at least 3 dead pixels to qualify for a replacement, but Apple's policy may be different, particularly as the screen is smaller. But it may not be the iPod screen itself with the problem- I have a hard case for my iPod classic and thought that I had a dead pixel in the middle of the screen until I realised that it was a small defect in the transparent piece of plastic in the case for my iPod! I think it is where the case was injection moulded.

What is Apples policy on dead pixels, before I lug the beast to an Apple Store

    Hi david,
We are not Apple, only end-users like you so can't speak for Apple repair or warranty polices that aren't published on one of their support pages. Your best action is to call the store to which you'd have to lug the beast and ask to speak to a repair technician.

  • What is the policy for dead pixel or stuck pixel in apple store?

Hi, i'm the new mac user here. I never use the MAC. I just bought it 2 day ago at apple store. I'm so happy when i carry it back to my home. When I turn on my macbook, I think to get 1 DOT bad pixel on my screen......Oh..Is it my fault??? I just bought it and i didn't do anything....I would like to exchange and try to tell the reason that is not my fault..COZ "THIS ITEM IS DEFECT"...I asked the stuff overthere. If i would to return or exchange, I have to pay 10% off restock fee..coz i had already open box. How's come I have to pay it? How can i know is defect or not if i didn't open the box. I just bought it 2 day agos. Is it fair for me?? I'm so upset with apple a lot. I have to take it back and put in front of me and see that dot in the next 3 year.......or as long as this mac gone.
My question, How u can fix it out for this policy? Do u agree for this policy?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I had to return my first MacBook for a worse defect. They wanted to hit me with the restocking fee. I called the manager of the Apple Store I went to over and spoke with him. I explained the same thing to him that you stated here...Why should I be penalized for something I couldn't have known about with opening the box. I told him that I want to exchange it for a new one and I would not agree to paying the fee for that. However, I will agree to pay the fee to return it and purchase it from another retailer with a better return/exchange policy. He exchanged it on the spot, no fee.
My point...plead your case and explain that you are not going to pay a restocking fee for an exchange. Be professional about it. I'm confident you can make it happen.
You may also want to call Apple first. They can sometimes override the store and direct them to exchange it for you.

  • Apple dead pixel policy

Does anyone know apples policy on dead pixels? Is the same policy as most of the companys out there that say the screen is not faulty unless it has a certain number of dead pixels. I have a dead pixel on my imac g5 17" which stays black all the time. I think it is outrageous that a company can say the screen is not faulty. I think i am going to ditch the imac g5, buy a power mac then buy a samsung screen to go with, apparantley there do a zero, yes zero pixel policy. Any more than zero dead pixels on samsung screens are classed as faulty. Thanks a bunch apple now i have an imac i dont even want to look at.

Excuse me? There is no need for that tone.
I got my info from Samsung here and if they haven't updated their site to reflect the new policy, then that is not my fault. Furthermore, if they can't update their site to reflect this policy, I doubt that they will stand behind it. If I had a "no-defect" policy, I would be sure to have it plastered all over my site.
I stick to my opinion that a single dead pixel is acceptable. If perfection is the only thing that you will accept, then you can prepare yourself for a lifetime of dissappointment and ensuing therapy.

  • Dead pixel in iphone 4s

I have one DEAD PIXEL in my iphone 4s. So can it be resolved? As it irritates me while watching any of the videos or going through any of photos. Please help me out on this. what to do/?

Apple has a strict policy regarding dead pixels, and the death of a single pixel will generlly not be addressed by Apple.  However, you're free to visit an Apple store or AASP, for further guidance.  You may be able to find a third-party to replace the display, and you'll be liable for the costs incurred.

  • Dead Pixel Macbook Pro 2011

What is Apple's policy on dead pixels on a Macbook Screen? I have a dead pixel on my screen and I want it fixed. I payed alot of money for this laptop to hear I need multiple dead pixels to get this fixed.

Why 14 days? I have AppleCare.
You'd have to ask Apple why they chose a 14 day return/exchange period.
AppleCare has no impact on the return period. If you purchased an extra Apple Protection Plan, it extends the hardware warranty and phone support to a total of three years.
It sounds like you're beyond the 14 return/exchange period, and below the number of bad pixels to have the display replaced, even though you're under warranty. That's something you'll have to take up with AppleCare phone support, an Apple Store, or Apple Customer Relations. This is a user to user support forum; we are not Apple.

  • Dead pixel- BlacBook

I just got a new black macbook- Yesterday I noticed there was one dead pixel in the upper left of the screen. I first thought it was my desktop picture- but then changed it and sure enough it's still there.
Later on in the day- I got sidetracked, and back to work- I noticed the display is fine- no more dead pixel?
Is this something that can come and go? or am I insane and there was no dead pixel to begin with? I'd like to take care of this right away if it's something that going to be recurring.
    Thanks!

Most manufacturers have a policy where three dead/hot pixels are enough to get a replacement, Apple decide on a case-to case basis. I understand however that more than one is required to get a replacement.
On the other hand, you have a 14-day money back guarantee (atleast when shopping online). But atleast I would feel like abusing that guarantee if I were to return one product just to buy the exact one straight after.

  • 2 dead pixels

I just got my iPad today and I noticed there 2 dead pixels. Should I go back to the apple store and get a new one?

I would return it and get another one, but I got it from Best Buy. And they are out of stock. BB told me I could exchange it for a new one once they have stock, no problem. But I was told the same thing by the Apple store, and then got the refurb story.
I wish I could find an official Apple policy on dead pixels, but all I can find is something from 2003. Anyone have a recent policy that covers the ipad that I can wave in the Apple stores face?

Does anyone know Nokia's policy on dead pixels? Or should I said it back to the Carfphone Warehouse as I've had it less than a month and also it is insured?

Try the Carphone Warehouse first - see if you can get it replaced... to me, a replacement will always be more favourable to a repaired handset...
If not, see what they suggest... though I'd be inclined to take it to my nearest Nokia Service Centre (www.nokia.com/repair) - some of these Service Centres are in Carphone Warehouses though, so you may be in luck...

  • What is Apple's dead pixel policy for MacBook Pro 13 inch 2011?

I have just noticed a dead pixel in my MacBook Pro 13 inch. Is it possible that i could have my Mac replaced? If not, what do I do and what is the policy? I do have Apple Care. Thanks.

One thing I'm fairly certain of is that Apple will choose to repair the unit instead of replacing it. Since you wisely purchased AppleCare, they should repair it if you're in your 3-year warranty (and, obviously, you are).
    Good luck,

  • Apple policy on MBP Retina with dead pixel

    Hi
New MBP retina (<90 days) with dead pixel just appeared 2 days ago.
Did anyone experience this and what's the Apple policy on this ?
    Thanks
    V

Call Customer Support and have them replace the screen. They will send you a box to mail to depot.
I had a MacBook Pro with a dead pixel and left speaker out. My MBP was 4 years old, definently out of warrenty. I called Apple, and they replaced the display without charge.
I received the box on Wednesday, mailed it on Thursday (FedEx) and got my fixed MBP back on Friday, same week! This is why I still buy Apple.
When calling customer service, stress that you have more than one pixel out, as you probably have a cluster. Have them do the repair at depot not at any Apple Store. Make sure, since you are still with 90 days, fix it for free.
    Should not be a problem.

Does anyone knows whether Lenovo changed their dead pixel policy from 3 to 9 pixels for an exchange?
    Solved!

Have you tried an app like UDPixel to try and unstick the pixels?   Though yeah if you can tell tech support the document which you found the information in you should be able to get the panel replaced.

  • Lenovo wont stand behind dead pixel policy

I am not sure what else to do. It seems like unless you complain on this board, lenovo will not respond.
I bought a t400 back in 2008 and it shipped with dead pixels.
I informed support and they noted it "on my account". I had a 5 year warranty and decided to wait until I had a major issue.
My T400 recently failed (hard blue screen) and I sent it in to lenovo support. They refused to fix the lcd and after a few days shipped my laptop back without fixing the blue screen
I finally got support to let me go with a local repair shop (they did a motherobard swap). The tech fix my machine but again lenovo refused to repair my LCD
I bought a 5 year warranty for piece of mind and  lenovo has completely failed.
If you have a dead pixel issue, return the unit asap. Lenovo will refuse repairs.
I have purchased 4 thinkpads since 2008 and since the t61 nvidia failure, the support has gone completely downhill
My case # is A02P78N, and I have sent 3 PMs to mark with no reply.
    Can anybody help?
