Pop mail via the iphone...

Is the best way to set up a pop account via the iphone using the cwmx.com outgoing mail server?
Its seems that mail works then it doesnt...

Email account mailboxes and messages are not synced between the iPhone's Mail client and your computer's email client. The iPhone sync function for email accounts is for transferring email account setup information only from your computer to your iPhone.
A POP account is designed to be accessed with an email client on one computer or device.
An IMAP account is designed to be accessed with an email client on multiple computers or devices with the ability to store the account's Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes on the server with each email client used to access the account. This provides for keeping all server stored mailboxes for the account synchronized automatically with each email client used to access the account.
This is not possible with a POP account.

How can i check my mails on the iphone and make sure that the mail wont pop up again on my computer/ will be deleted on the server ?

For that kind of connectivity you need to be using an email account configured either as IMAP or Exchange.
IMAP & Exchange accounts will maintain a sync across all your devices, so if you read / delete a message on your phone, it will disappear from the server as well. This cannot happen in POP email accounts.
If your using gmail, instructions on how to set up exchange / imap are here http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252
Alternatively, if its anything other than Google, you will need to contact your email providor or IT department (if your email address resides with an enterprise environment) to get the correct settings.
    Hope this helps!

  • The annoyances of mail on the iPhone

    sent to apple product feedback...
The iPhone is a great product, that I enjoy a great deal, however mail is a very frustrating experience.
One can pay for .mac for ease of use on everything, integration with the home computer, iphone syncing, bookmarks.. but Apple's own service doesn't offer push email to the iPhone - bad.
One can sign up for Yahoo Mail, which offers no address book integration, allows no home imap acces, requires payment for home POP access (weak), but yet they are the only push provider.. wha? What good is push imap @yahoo if we can't get imap any other way!
One can use gmail, no integration, no push, free imap that has to be set up without the wizard(not apple's fault but needs to be addressed), horrible integration between folders and labels... bad choice.
The mail situation needs to be worked out, at present there is not ONE single solution that works well for mail on the iphone. Push is important, not only for staying up to date but also for reducing battery drain associated with regular polling.
You've all done such a wonderful job on the phone, the lack of a real mail solution (server wise) is a real disappointment and makes using the device MUCH more difficult / less satisfying. I know I'm not alone in the frustration with push/home management. At least please get .mac working with it - so I can give you more money

This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Contacts (Address Book).
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

I backed up my iphone 4 and did an upgrade and changed my Apple ID and password but my phone has not recognised the new ID to upgrade my apps via the iphone.  How do I get rid of the old Apple ID when it comes to upgrading apps.
I have been into setting>store and signed out and signed back in and it still asks for old ID and password.

Everything you've had up to now has been tied to your old Apple ID. You cannot switch it over to a new Apple ID. You should contact iTunes support to help you with this:

  • When I try and send an e-mail via the PDF in print it gives a warning

When I try and send an e-mail via the PDF in print it gives a warning saying :
“” does not appear to be a valid e-mail address. Verify the address and try again.
For whatever reason it is putting a "" in front of the address that I get from the address book.
There is nothing in my previous recipients and if I copy and paste the info from the e-mail to another e-mail from mail directly the address is fine and it sends without and problems.
Any ideas or web site I can visit to remove this ?
    Greg

Quote :  So you start typing in the recipients name and it puts the name in quotes?
    Yes.
As is normal, I type in a few letters and the auto fills in the name and the name is highlighted in blue as always.
It does not happen if I send it from the SHARE dropdown.
However in the SHARE I have to send all the pages.
I have to use the FILE dropdown and then the PRINT, pick the first page (single) and then go to the MAIL PDF.
That is the one I am having the issue with.
Thanks for taking the time to help.

  • Can I delete a genre of music via the iPhone 5S, Can I delete a genre of music via the iPhone 5S

My wife and I share an iTunes account via an iMac, but we have different tastes in music.
Can I remove unwanted Genres of music via the iPhone?
Is it something that has to be done via the iTunes program and if so how?

    Hello RingosDad
You can do both. One-way is to set up syncing on your computer to either sync the genres or just the specific music within a playlist. Also if you are happy with the music on your iPhone, besides that one genre, you can navigate to that genre and then do a swipe from right to left to bring up a delete option for that song.

  • Why do I get an "unable to connect - There may be a problem with the mail server or network." message from iCloud.  I have verified the settings.  I can access my iCloud account online but can't send or receive e-mail via the mail account.

Text limits to the "Question" link prevents a full explanation:
This is a long-time problem.  I have tried to resolve it with Apple but their "Customer Support" is merely a name.
I can go online and access my e-mail but when I try to send or receive e-mail via iCloud through my internet server (Google fiber now but the same situation existed with my prior service), I receive "There may be a problem with the mail server or network.  Verify the settings for 'Apple Email' and try again.
"The server returned the error:  The server 'p0-imap.mail.me.com' refused to allow a connection on port 143."
Well, I have verified the setting and tried again and again and …
Well, you get the idea …

Enter your Incoming Mail Server, User Name, and Password using the following settings:
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.me.com
User Name: Your iCloud email address (excluding @me.com)
    Password: Your password

Maybe you should test these things before calling people out, because these settings do function perfectly well.
iCloud is not supported on Snow Leopard or lower, why bother to mention it?
The OP has an iCloud account, and that can not be opened without Lion or Mountain Lion (on a Mac), IOS5 or 6 (on an iPhone/iPad)
The document I linked to is Apples documentation for iCloud on current devices,I don't care whether you believe that you know better than they do, but it will affect the people who follow your advice as it won't work

  • Problems with pop mail password with iPhone

I have recently purchased an iPhone and after configuring my email POP account using iTunes to do so on my iPhone, I have begun getting a password request for my incoming mail on my macbook. It seems there is a conflict and continues to ask for it sometimes 10 or 15 time in a row without being able to connect to my email on my mac. What should I do?

POP3 accounts aren't really designed for being accessed from multiple devices at the same time. Some POP3 email providers lock the account while another device is accessing it, which may be why your Mac is asking for the password.
Set the account up as IMAP on both the Mac and iPhone and it should work fine. You'll also have the added benefit of your email being completely in sync on both devices, so when you read email on the iPhone it is also marked as read on the Mac and vice versa, and sent mail on one device appears in the Sent Mailbox on the other.

  • Sending E-Mail From the IPHONE

Hi All. I am a newbie and need help. I want to send email from the IPHONE. Can I do this?
I get into my hotmail account and see my e-mails. They are all listed there but screens look different fom PC. I can't figure out how to open a new e-mail and I responded to some emails on the screen and the people never got them. Is this what you are supposed to do? Do I need a different e-mail account than hotmail? I thought the phone was like a PC. Help Please.

The iPhone can tap into any POP or IMAP accounts.
You didn't fully say how you are getting to Hotmail email.
Are you browsing to http://hotmail.com ?
If so, then you are just on the web accessing the web pages for hotmail. Usage and support for the Hotmail website is up to Microsoft.
If you have a paid account at Hotmail then they allow POP access (other services like Yahoo, gMail, etc offer it for free). If you do pay for Hotmail, then they should of given you the POP settings that you plugged into the *Email Application* of the phone. In that case, the new email icon is just in the bottom right hand corner when in the Mail Application. Replying and forwarding is pretty straight forward.

  • Managing pop mail account on iPhone

I have a pop mail account on my PC with my ISP.  I've added it to my iPhone so that I can remotely check mail.  But I have only 3 folders - Inbox, Sent and Trash.  I would like to add  a folder to save messages rather than save them in the inbox.  I don't seem to be able to do this.  Even syncing my account doesn't work in this respect.
Is there a way to do this?  It seems like a fairly standard thing...

I think what you mean is that you cannot have an email POP account on a laptop and on iphone look for the same messages on the incoming server.
I mean exactly what I provided. A POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only. When a POP account is accessed with more than email client, the setting for removing messages from the server when downloaded needs to be off with both email clients used to access the account.
And if accessed with more than one email client, you cannot have both email clients actively accessing the incoming mail server for new messages at or near the same time. If one email client checks the incoming mail server for new messages followed by another email client doing the same at or near the same time, the incoming mail server will lock the account's Inbox mailbox preventing the 2nd email client from accessing the account's Inbox mailbox and downloading new messages if any are available. This is a temporary lock and is due to a POP account being designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
The same does not apply to an IMAP account which is designed to be accessed with more than one email client with multiple email clients being able to access server stored mailboxes at the same time.
Please answer my question which was copied from my previous post and was provided first.
*Since this is a POP account, what is your account setting with Outlook for removing messages from the server when downloaded?*

I just plugged my iPhone into my Mac. I got this pop up - The iPhone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes. I went to the address and updated my Mac but the pop up still comes up - I can't find out if they mean my iPhone needs to be updated or how to update it if that is the case.

    Hi RileyAvaCadenRiver,
If you recently updated your iPhone to iOS7, you will need to update iTunes on your computer to iTunes 11.1 or newer for it to correctly recognize the iPhone. You may find the following link helpful:

  • Is it possible to use secure e-mail on the iPhone?

  • Deleted Mail on the iPhone does not delete on .Mac

I've noticed that when I delete mail on my iPone in my .Mac account that it does not show as deleted when going to webmail.mac.com. I see the messages still in my inbox AND in the trash.
Any ideas why this is not synching?
    Thanks.

I found that there was a slight time lapse from when I managed a message on my iPhone (with .Mac) to when it showed the same status on my Mail.app (.Mac). For example, I deleted a message directly from my Inbox (iPhone) and it moved to trash. But it took about 2 minutes for that same message to show up in my trash on my machine. It just sat as a new, unread message on my laptop and then suddenly during the next send/receive interval it was put into the trash (still marked as unread, though).
Have you allowed any sort of time lapse? Or are you viewing the webmail view of your .Mac account simultaneously as your actions on the iPhone?
