Print Jobs Keep Stopping

I have an Epson 6600 printer attached to my New Intel iMac. I send jobs to the printer and they show up in the list of jobs to print, but the status says "Jobs Stopped." When I click on the Start Jobs button the progress bar starts, then it says Jobs Stopped again! I can do a printer self test with no problem. I have repaired permissions, and restarted the printer and the computer.
My printer just won't start jobs! What can I do?

Hello Kevin,
To determine why the spooler is stopping we need to look at the cups error log. This is located in the Console application. With it open, click on the Logs icon and then expand the /var/log entry. Then expand the cups entry. Under here you will see the error_log. The error will be shown with an E to the left and show what process failed. To determine what that process was look back up the log for the process ID (PID) for that print job. It will probably show a filter or plugin that is stopping the print.
Now the repair permissions is usually enough to fix this. But sometimes you need to do this after booting from the OS X disc and running the Disk Utility from here so that the cups daemon hasn't started.
If that doesn't help then look at trying Fixamac's Printer Setup Repair utility and/or running the Intel Combo updater.

Why do my print jobs keep cancelling? Internet is connected. On ePrint centre printer shows read ??

    Hi jmarc11,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that when you send a print job to your HP printer via ePrint that it cancels the print job.
To better assist you, would you please provide some further information:
    1)    What make/model/product number of HP printer do you have?
    2)    How is the printer connected (USB cable, ethernet or wireless)?
    3)    Are you sending the print job from your computer or a mobile device? If you are using a mobile device are you using an app like the HP ePrint app or HP AiO app?
    4)    What is the operating system of the device you are using to send the print job?
    Thank you.

Hi,  there sorry to learn that you are having this issue.
Let me start by saying this is what I heard from other members of the forum.
I heard here (other members of the community) that there is an issue that engineer are working on diligently that may be affecting this particular process. All of the suggestions in this page have help members of this forum with this situation hope that one of them helps you.
     - Reboot the computer.
    - Open the browser (Internet Explorer, chrome, FireFox, Safari,Opera ) of your preference and clear cookies and internet (Browsing) history.
-In the browser of your preference try singing-in or registering to e-print.
    If the above did not solved your issue, Please try this;
    - Use another browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, firefox, safari, Opera) and try again.
If you are willing to try a test,
-Disable all Security Applications on your computer including Windows Firewall and try to see if there a process getting block while the printing process is going on.
    other quick suggestions unlikely to be related in your particular case;
-Set an static IP Address for your printer,
This should be done outside the DHCP range (the range that your router uses to automaticly assing leasses to the clients or devices connecting to the network).
    - Use Google public DNS Servers;
8.8.8.8 and alternate 8.8.4.4 (the reason that I recommend this is because I have use them all the time and have not seem conflict of any kind)
    - Make sure that your printer have the most current firmware and software available for them
(remember most of the updates in firmware and software are to FIX ISSUES and in a lesser degree done are to add functionality). The issue that you having may have been fix in a firmware update.
    - Make sure that your Operating system is updated.
(To a lesser extend this are also updated to FIX ISSUES although some times can create them as well, mostly they are updated to patch security issues) it may be important.
    Hope this helps;

  • Print jobs keep holding in print queue

Just installed a new HP6600 enabled with wi-fi.  First print test was perfect. Subsequent print jobs keep going to "Hold" in queue. How do I prevent print jobs going to "HOLD".
It prevents another print job from starting unless I manually deleted the job from the queue.

Thanks Jamieson.  I really appreciate your assistance.  I uninstalled the printer software per suggestion #1 and then re-entered my printer and all seems to be working fine now.

  • Print jobs keep starting and then error in print que

I have a HP Photosmart 100D series printer. The print jobs keep freezing up in the que. The jobs start and then after a page or two the error message appears when checking the status.
I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled
    I have download new drivers
I have run the "HP Print Doctor" it gives a message to save work, close and programs and restart the PC and then restart the ulitity. I have done this and still get the message that it cannot fix the que error.
What do you suggest as a solution to this frustrating problem?
I  have Windows 7 Professional OS

Hmm. I have an HP printer that's behaved fine, but I've moved it to my iBook (running Tiger) so I can print wirelessly.
It may be an issue with the driver or the software. I'm guessing the software was written for the PPC machines, and that might be causing the problem.
The way I've checked this is to open up "Activity Monitor" (Applications>Utilities) and find the processes related to your HP printer (usually begin with "hp") under kind what's shown?
You might want to look into the CUPS idea presented earlier as it may give you better results.

  • Print job starts, stops on last page of job, then finally restarts.

Hello, I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8500 (A909), connected via router (ethernet cable). Windows 8, HP Pavillion machine, i5 processor, 64 bit, 6gigs ram
The print job starts, stops on last page of job, then finally restarts, then starts whole print job over with same results; pausing for about a minute, restarting and finishing job but the driver must detect that the job - still in the queue - is not done and starts again.
I've swapped ethernet cables with the same results. I can print over the wireless network with other computers and do not have this issue.
I thought it was a driver issue so I uninstalled/reinstalled HP software, with all available updates, same results.
The only work around at my disposal now, other than printing from another machine, is to wait for the last page to print and manually clear the queue so the job doesn't print again. Suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hey @DavidWW ,
Thank you for joining us on the HP Forums today, hope you enjoy your time with us! Also thank you for taking the time to thoroughly explain the issue, much appreciated.
I understand you are having an issue with the last page printing late, the computer not recognizing it, re-printing and so on. You need to print, wait for stall and then last page and then clear queue to stop the printer. That is truly annoying, however; I might have a fix for you in 1 simple post... maybe not, but maybe at least.
Try the tool I have posted below and run the print fix option.
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor >>> www.hp.com/go/tools
If that doesn't fix your issue make sure you let me know and we can continue.

  • Print spooler keeps stopping on Windows 7

I have an HP desktop computer running Windows 7 it has an HP photosmart Printer and an Kodak AIO 5500 attached to it and shared over the network. Everything is fine with the HP printer but every time I try to print to the Kodak the print spooler keeps
stopping. I have tried many of the work arounds I have found but nothing helps. Every time I try to print to the KOdak I have to wait until after I have made all the print option and then I have to start the spooler.  The firmware and software is up to
date on the Kodak printer.  How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
Clear Printer Spooler Files and Enable the Spooler Service
    =================================
    1. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Search box and press Enter.
    2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
    3. Click Stop and click OK.
    4. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the Start Search box and press Enter, delete all files in this folder.
    5. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter.
    6. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
    7. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK.
    Does it work?
    Regards,
    Arthur Li - MSFT
Thanks Arthur. Your solution worked for me and I now have both my printers back in use. I am using Windows 7 and IE9. Suspect that clicking the Print button on an internet site yesterday when reserving an item for collection at the local outlet of
a national high street retailer may have caused the problem.

  • Help! One error printing and now all print jobs status = STOPPED.

I work in a big corporation with 99.99% PCs. I've been printing to networked printers here under Leopard without problem for a long time now. I recently submitted a print job to a HP printer and all it printed was:
    Error: invalidfont
    OFFENDING COMMAND: definefont
    STACK:
    -dictionary-
    /HSRYIE+ArialNarrow-Italic
However, since that moment I have been unable to print anything irrespective of what printer I choose (HP, Xerox etc). Every time I start a job it immediately shows with a status of STOPPED in the printer window. Other people continue printing to these printers just fine, snickering at my Mac along the way .
    Any ideas??

Hoping to inspire some tech-head to respond here...
Restarting doesn't fix this. Repairing permissions doesn't fix this. Removing and reinstalling the printer doesn't fix this.

Every time I reboot I get the same printers in 'devices and printers' even though I have removed them. Also there is one printer that will not be removed. If I try and then hover the mouse cursor over the printer icon, the tool tips displayed are
    "Remove failed"
    "Driver does not exist"
Ok. I don't give a stuff about the missing driver, I just want to remove it. Why  does a missing driver prevent me from removing a printer. I though that if the driver was missing it would indicate that the printer is inoperable and make removing it
    even easier.
How on earth does one get around this embargo. How does one get rid of dud printers from the control panel applet?
I am sure that these remnant printers are causing the print spooler service to keep crashing.

  • Print Jobs Automatically Stop

    Hello All,
    I have a MacBook Pro 15", Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.16 GHz, Mac OS X version 10.4.11.
I am connected to a network printer at my office. The printer is a HP Business Inkjet 2800 model. My mac recognizes it as bonjour printer and everything is ok. I can even see the status of the printer (i.e. ink levels, paper, etc of the printer). When I send a file to print, it automatically stops it. Why is this?
I tried resetting the printers from the Printer's Setup Utility, but didnt have any luck in fixing this problem.
    Can anybody advice?
    Thanks in advance.
    andreas

Does it do this with all applications, or a particular application?

  • Printer queue keeps stopping

I’m trying to print to Adobe Acrobat (the only working “printer” I have right now) The PDF file does not appear in the chosen destination.
So I go to print Center. In the Printer list window, though it says “Printing,” I see the message:
“Printing of jobs for this printer is stopped. Do you want to continue and restart the printing of jobs? If you select continue and the printing of jobs cannot be restarted, this job will automatically be added to the queue.”
I choose “Restart.” In the Printer window it shows the progress bar.
Finally, after a long time processing, it says at the top of the Printer window, “Jobs Stopped.” (?) The file is added to the bottom of the list in the Printer window (by now a fairly long list). No file appears in the specified location.
If I click the “Start Jobs” icon, it goes through the same rigamarole and still no files appear, and again it says “Jobs Stopped.” The files remain in the list of files still to be printed.
I can create a PDF through the Mac’s “Save as PDF"button at the bottom of the print dialog, but not through Acrobat.

I don't have an answer, but I do have exactly the same problem! I was previously able to print wireless from my laptop PC and from my desktop PC to the printer connected to USB port of the AEBS. Now, I can print only if I connect the printer directly to one of the PC's with the USB cable.
I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Apple technical support. We tried rebooting the AEBS, and well as Restarting it from the menu.
I was able to print if I set up the printer via a shared connection to my MacBook Pro with the printer connected by Ethernet cable, but that is not an acceptable solution, since it means that the MacBook Pro has to be turned on in order to print from the PC.
I have even exchanged the AEBS for a new one at the Apple store, but I am still not able to resolve this issue.
Apple Technical Support ended the conversation by saying they do not provide support for Bonjour printing problems on a PC.
