Print jobs keep being canceled

I don't understand why my print job keeps being canceled. Could someone explain to me what I'm doing wrong? I tried making it a separate thread, but that doesn't work either.
/*used to print out reports*/
class printer implements Runnable{
     String filename;
     public printer(String theFile){
          filename = theFile;
     public void run(){
          try{
               PrintRequestAttributeSet pras =
               new HashPrintRequestAttributeSet();
               DocFlavor flavor = DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.PNG;
               PrintService printService[] =
               PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(flavor, pras);
               PrintService defaultService = PrintServiceLookup.lookupDefaultPrintService();
               PrintService service = ServiceUI.printDialog(null, 200, 200,
               printService, defaultService, flavor, pras);
               if (service != null) {
                    DocPrintJob job = service.createPrintJob();
                    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(filename);
                    DocAttributeSet das = new HashDocAttributeSet();
                    Doc doc = new SimpleDoc(fis, flavor, das);
                    job.print(doc, pras);
                    /*wait for the damn print to finish!*/
          }catch(Exception e){JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Error: "+e);}
}

Hello Kevin,
To determine why the spooler is stopping we need to look at the cups error log. This is located in the Console application. With it open, click on the Logs icon and then expand the /var/log entry. Then expand the cups entry. Under here you will see the error_log. The error will be shown with an E to the left and show what process failed. To determine what that process was look back up the log for the process ID (PID) for that print job. It will probably show a filter or plugin that is stopping the print.
Now the repair permissions is usually enough to fix this. But sometimes you need to do this after booting from the OS X disc and running the Disk Utility from here so that the cups daemon hasn't started.
If that doesn't help then look at trying Fixamac's Printer Setup Repair utility and/or running the Intel Combo updater.

    Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that when you send a print job to your HP printer via ePrint that it cancels the print job.
    To better assist you, would you please provide some further information:
    1)    What make/model/product number of HP printer do you have?
    2)    How is the printer connected (USB cable, ethernet or wireless)?
    3)    Are you sending the print job from your computer or a mobile device? If you are using a mobile device are you using an app like the HP ePrint app or HP AiO app?
    4)    What is the operating system of the device you are using to send the print job?

    Why do my print jobs keep cancelling?  Photosmart D110.  Internet connected.  Shows connected and ready.  Get email saying received.  It cancels immediately.  This is something new.  It was printing fine.

    Hi,  there sorry to learn that you are having this issue.
    Let me start by saying this is what I heard from other members of the forum.
    I heard here (other members of the community) that there is an issue that engineer are working on diligently that may be affecting this particular process. All of the suggestions in this page have help members of this forum with this situation hope that one of them helps you.
     - Reboot the computer.
    - Open the browser (Internet Explorer, chrome, FireFox, Safari,Opera ) of your preference and clear cookies and internet (Browsing) history.
    -In the browser of your preference try singing-in or registering to e-print.
    If the above did not solved your issue, Please try this;
    - Use another browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, firefox, safari, Opera) and try again.
    If you are willing to try a test,
    -Disable all Security Applications on your computer including Windows Firewall and try to see if there a process getting block while the printing process is going on.
    other quick suggestions unlikely to be related in your particular case;
    -Set an static IP Address for your printer,
    This should be done outside the DHCP range (the range that your router uses to automaticly assing leasses to the clients or devices connecting to the network).
    - Use Google public DNS Servers;
    8.8.8.8 and alternate 8.8.4.4 (the reason that I recommend this is because I have use them all the time and have not seem conflict of any kind)
    - Make sure that your printer have the most current firmware and software available for them
    (remember most of the updates in firmware and software are to FIX ISSUES and in a lesser degree done are to add functionality). The issue that you having may have been fix in a firmware update.
    - Make sure that your Operating system is updated.
    (To a lesser extend this are also updated to FIX ISSUES although some times can create them as well, mostly they are updated to patch security issues) it may be important.
    Hope this helps;

  • Print jobs keep holding in print queue

    Just installed a new HP6600 enabled with wi-fi.  First print test was perfect. Subsequent print jobs keep going to "Hold" in queue. How do I prevent print jobs going to "HOLD".
    It prevents another print job from starting unless I manually deleted the job from the queue.

    Thanks Jamieson.  I really appreciate your assistance.  I uninstalled the printer software per suggestion #1 and then re-entered my printer and all seems to be working fine now.

  • Print jobs keep starting and then error in print que

    I have a HP Photosmart 100D series printer. The print jobs keep freezing up in the que. The jobs start and then after a page or two the error message appears when checking the status.
    I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled
    I have download new drivers
    I have run the "HP Print Doctor" it gives a message to save work, close and programs and restart the PC and then restart the ulitity. I have done this and still get the message that it cannot fix the que error.
    What do you suggest as a solution to this frustrating problem?
    I  have Windows 7 Professional OS

    Hmm. I have an HP printer that's behaved fine, but I've moved it to my iBook (running Tiger) so I can print wirelessly.
    It may be an issue with the driver or the software. I'm guessing the software was written for the PPC machines, and that might be causing the problem.
    The way I've checked this is to open up "Activity Monitor" (Applications>Utilities) and find the processes related to your HP printer (usually begin with "hp") under kind what's shown?
    You might want to look into the CUPS idea presented earlier as it may give you better results.

  • Printer jobs keep repeating

    Printer prints job then repeats it 2 or 3 times even if I cancel the print job after the first printing.  Am wasting  a lot of paper.  Also a second different print job takes up to 5 minutes to start.

    Can you find OS process....
    After that kill that process....
    $ ps -aef | grep 4592
    oracle 4592 1 0 14:47 ? 00:00:00 ora_j000_oradb1
    $ kill -9 4592
    Oracle'll recover that process and create new backgroup process
    Anyway You can refresh ....
    select what, job from user_jobs;
    WHAT JOB
    dbms_refresh.refresh('"USER"."GROUP1"'); 424
    So,run that script to refresh....
    exec dbms_refresh.refresh('"USER"."GROUP1"');

  • Print Jobs Keep Stopping

    I have an Epson 6600 printer attached to my New Intel iMac. I send jobs to the printer and they show up in the list of jobs to print, but the status says "Jobs Stopped." When I click on the Start Jobs button the progress bar starts, then it says Jobs Stopped again! I can do a printer self test with no problem. I have repaired permissions, and restarted the printer and the computer.
    My printer just won't start jobs! What can I do?

    Hello Kevin,

  • Officejet Pro 6835 self-cancels print jobs with more than 3 copies

    I am printing 5x7 invitations for a business.  No matter how many copies I request, y brand new HP Officejet Pro 6835 will self-cancel the print job after 3 invitations have printed.  So if I have 30 invites to print, I have to print them in batches of 3.  Tonight I had 150 invites to print - so it is a long envening.  The error displayed on my HP ENVY laptop is that there is an error and can't print (not informative).  The error on the HP printer is that the print job has been cancelled.
    The other issue is that I am forced to print the 5x7 invites in landscape mode which is very slow.  Portrait mode would go much faster but for some reason the handshake between Word and the printer will not allow this to happen.  I've tried to custom configure the page set up to be 7x5, but Word will not save the custom configuraiton.
    Please help!

    Hi-
    Thank you for the suggestion but unfortuneately the hotfix did not solve the problem.  I am now getting between 2.5 to 3 copies.  Do you have any other thoughts?  I did install the hotfix on c:/ which was the default - was there another directory I should have chosen?
    As a side note, I am trying to print a batch right now and am trying to seperate the job into copies of 2.  Even this is not working.  About every very other card, I am getting a partially printed card and the print job cancels.  In a batch of 19 (10 print jobs of 2), I have 11 ruined cards because they have partially printed before the job self-cancels.  Very expensive to have a 60% ruin rate.
    Also, I would really like to be able to print in portrait rather than landscape mode.  I am estimating that printing in landscape mode takes more than 4.5 x (23 seconds) than portrait mode (5 seconds) - when printing 150 copies this results in a job being over an hour vs. closer to 15 minutes which is best case since I have to constantly restart the job.  I also suspect that landscpae mode is far less efficient in its use of ink than portrait mode.  Any help would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Pinter won't print; can't cancel failed print job; cannot print anything

    If I try to cancel a print job,  the printer dialog box claims the print job is being deleted, but it never is.  The only nway I can get rid of the message and clean up the print queue is to reinstall the printer.  This is absurd.  HP's help is anything but.  What is the problem.  I have a Deklsjet 1660.

    Debra,
    Look at my solution just above your post. Go here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us
    Scroll to the bottom of the page for the download link, and download it to your desktop. The link looks like this:
    Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now.
    Double click the icon that is on your desktop to install it. Startt eh program through "start", then "Programs".
    Find Adobe reader in the list, highlight it and click the "Remove" button.
    Got to www.adobe.com and download Adobe Reader to your desktop, and install it. You should be good to go.

  • Pending 'stuck' print jobs don't appear in Mac interface but appear in CUPS

    We use a product called Equitrac to manage/authenticate print jobs from the OSX 10.6 workstation through to our Windows print server. When a print queue gets stuck on the 10.6 workstation the jobs do not appear within the native Mac printing interface, you have to log into the local CUPS web server to see the jobs and manage them. Here is a screen shot.
    http://fileserver.wheatonma.edu/gibsonbrian/print_queuepaused.png
    Any suggestions on why this is happening?

    w00005414 wrote:
    Thanks Pahu,
    We do not use LPR or Windows printing, we use a proprietary application called Equitrac and they have their own way of submitting the jobs to the server.
    I was of the understanding that Equitrac run on a Windows box and was simply monitoring the spool files for user names and copy counts for internal charging. Therefore I would have expected you to submit the print jobs from the Mac via LPD or SMB to the Equitrac print server. If there is some other print service that is being used then this could explain the print jobs not being visible in the local printer proxy.
    I think you are right about the level of user access the person logging in has, I will check in with our Mac admins and see what account they are logging in with to check these queues. One other twist is that the Mac does authentication through our Windows 2003 domain so people log in with their Windows credentials.... not sure if that makes a difference.
    For an AD login with the Mac this would typically mean the users would be using managed accounts rather than local admin accounts. Since the printer proxies are at a system level then this could also mean the managed account has no rights to view the printer proxy. A test would be to log in to the Mac with an account that has Admin rights on the Mac and then see if the print jobs are visible in the printer proxy.

  • UNABLE TO CANCEL PRINT JOB THAT KEEPS PRINTING SAME COPIES

    How do you cancel print job on a HP Deskjet D1520 with Windows Vista?
    THANKS!

    Since this printer does not have a physical "Cancel" button, the easiest way of stopping a document print is to clear the document from the Print Queue.
    To remove a document from the print queue manually:
    1. Depending upon your operating system, do one of the following:
    • Windows Vista: On the Windows taskbar, click Start, click Control Panel, and
    then click Printers.
    • Windows XP: On the Windows taskbar, click Start, click Control Panel, and
    then click Printers and Faxes.
    • Windows 2000: On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and
    then click Printers.
    2. Double-click the icon for your product to open the print queue.
    3. On the Printer menu, highlight the document, click Cancel or Purge Print Document,
    and then click Yes to confirm.
    Now, if the document has already started printing and you want to stop it before it finishes; then simply lift the top access door which will pause printing. Remove the document from the print queue now. If it is no longer in the print queue, then power off the printer. Wait about 30 seconds and power on the printer again. This should have stopped the document from printing.

  • How do I cancel a print job from my computer to my HP Photosmart 7510. Touchscreen is unavailable.

    HP Photosmart 7510 All-in-One CQ877a Model C3112; Operating system Windows Vista 64-bit.
    Can't find how to easily cancel a print job. The touch screen is unavailable during the printing process (just shows the HP icon spinning around during the print process). There isn't a "cancel" button or touch area to cancel. We're wasting ink and paper by not being able to cancel jobs easily. Read the 24-page manual and it doesn't mention it. Looked on line for an answer, can't seem to locate one. Can always go to Start, Printers, and select the printer and then cancel from within there, but by then, the job is finished.

    There should be a cancel button (X) on the printer. Check out the pic below taken from page 7 of the User manual for your printer:
    http://goo.gl/mW7Fy
    Alternately, instead of going the Start button route, did you check out the Final tip at the bottom of the article?
    "Final Tip (Shortcut)
    Before using the method above to open the print queue, look for the printer icon in the notification area. If you see it, double-click it to bring up the print queue. "
    If I have helped in any way, just click the Kudos star on the left. Also, if your issue has been resolved, don't forget to select Accept as Solution

  • Print queue hangs up when I cancel any print job

    I'm using my Photosmart All-in-One C309 printer wirelessly. It prints fine until I need to cancel a print job. As soon as I cancel any job that's currently printing (either in the software or by pressing the cancel button on the printer) the print queue hangs up and the job that I tried to cancel just sits there saying it is being deleted but it doesn't go away and it stops me printing anything else.
    I've discovered a way to clear the stuck job and get the printer going again (using the Troubleshoot option under Devices and Printers) but surely I should be able to cancel a print job without jamming up the queue completely?
    I've had the printer for a year now and it's always had this problem.
    This question was solved.

    Have you tried to delete and re-add the printer?
    Delete the printer (select it and hit the delete key on your keyboard).  Re-add it this way:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
    If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
    If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
