Problem pasting artwork direct from AI

Hi,
I am new to InDesign from Quark . Absolutely loving the workflow in InDesign. Making my life much easier!
I understand that you can paste elements directly from AI into InDesign and that it embeds then rather than links them. This works fine however when I resize any reasonably complex artwork InDesign seems to move elements within my artwork around.
I have tried outlining everything etc before pasting it in. This doesn't seem to make any difference.
Any ideas?

While you can copy/paste simple illustrations and get editable paths in ID if you want them (to use as a frame, for example) Illustrator's capabilities are far more complex than those in ID and the translation is not always good for more complex drawings. You may get an image instead.
I almost never copy from Illustrator. If it's simple enough that it would work, I can probably get by drawing it directly in ID, and If I can't, it's probably complex enough to require placing instead.

Considering 'invalid serial number' error for Acrobat 9, I would suggest you to please refer the KB doc link mentioned below:

McAfee Siteadvison 3.1 warns that FF 3.6.8 has problems when downloading directly from Mozilla

FF 3.6.7 popped up a download msg telling me that 3.6.8 was avaliable to correct problems. The update seemed to go as expected, but when I opened the new version and went directly to Mozilla to download a copy of the program from there, McAfee's Siteadvisor 3.1 popped up a warning that the download contained suspicious content.

Probably a false positive, due to McAfee not being ready for the Firefox update. If they took the time to keep up with impending Firefox updates, they could avoid inconveniencing their customers.

Problems pasting pie chart from Numbers into Pages table

I'm trying to paste a pie chart from Numbers into a table cell in Pages 09 but it doesn't allow me. Would you know why?

Probably because it is a smart object connected back to the Numbers document.
If you want it purely as a graphic, try copying the chart in Numbers switching to Preview.app and going command n which will make it a pdf file, then copy that and paste that into Pages. But it will no longer be a live chart.

Copy Paste cell/table from OpenOffice

Hi,
I have a problem pasting text from cells from OpenOffice Writer to Indesign cells because it's seems that unlike Microsoft Word, OpenOffice separate the different elements of a table by a carriage return and not by a tabulation.
Does anyone know the solution?

I am not using CS3, but testing NeoOffice with CS2 I see the same behavior as with Excel.
Tables come in as text with tabs between columns and paragraph returns between rows.
Using Dave Saunders PopTabFromClip script allows pasting of the data into predefined tables.
If you need to convert the text pasted in direct from NeoOffice to Tables, then the method is to go ahead and paste, then select the text and use the Table menu option Convert Text to Table.
I cannot comment on OpenOffice as I am not seeing the behavior reported by Edo75.

PS: I now see that Edo75 is using the Writer part (Word equivalent) of the office instead of the Spreadsheet (Excel equivalent). Could that be the issue?
Edit: Yep, same issue. Try pasting into a new Spreadsheet, then copy the data again before pasting into InDesign. That fixed the behavior for me.

After spending another two days on pinning down the iTunes 10.5 blank store page problem, here's the solution to be found: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3372617?start=0&tstart=0
Look out for "japiohelp".
In short:
a) press Windows key + "R", enter "cmd", and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter (= runs as admin)
b) enter "netsh winsock reset" and pres enter
c) reboot the computer

ITUNES COPY AND PASTE ARTWORK PROBLEM

Ive had a problem ever since I downloaded the newest itunes update and want to see if anyone else is having this issue. I hope I can explain this accurately.
When you have the album artwork displayed on the bottom left hand of the itunes screen. I used to be able to double click on the artwork and copy that album cover art and paste it onto another track. Ever since Ive updated itunes a couple weeks ago, the double clicking is no longer working. When I doubleclick, it just doesnt work and doesnt give me the option to cut or copy anymore. So now I have no ability to cut/copy and paste artwork from one album to another. I used to always do t his routinely without a problem. Is anyone else having this issue or have an idea what is going on? Did a setting accidentally change?
Im talking about the album artwork on the bottom left of the screen. Double clicking it no longer works- doesnt give me any options. (The music is not purchased from itunes so I often manually update the artwork)

Copy from the artwork panel (and image selection between multiple artwork) is broken on this build. You can still copy art from the artwork tab in Get Info.

This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
What can I do?

Problem - I can import from mailbox but not scan directly into PDF

I hope you can help.
I have a Xerox 7132 printer/scanner/copier which has been set up and working on a small office network for a while now. Recently two users of four have found they can no longer scan directly into Acrobat Standard 9 from the application. (The other two are fine and can do everything as before. One is using Acrobat Standard 9 and the other Pro X).The two who have the problem are able to scan to email. They can also scan (from the scanner) to a mail box. However if they stay at their machines and using Acrobat choose to create PDF - scan etc. etc. and then choose to hide native menu, when they click scan an error pops up which simply says - 'PARAMETER'. Not Bad parameter or anything else, just the one word - PARAMETER.
I found a few bits and pieces on 'Bad Parameter' which state the fix as selecting the scanner. In this case the scanner is selected - 'Xerox Network Scanner'.
I can ping and find the scanner. I can print to it. I can scan into a mailbox. I just lost functionality to print direct from the Acrobat Standard 9. I have to first scan the item into a mailbox, and then import it into Acrobat.
I'm running XP Pro SP3.
Acrobat is version 9.5.2 and it is fully updated.
Any ideas?

I can't tell you why the 3G isn't recognized by FCP and I have no way to test whether it's normal since I don't have access to that model. But just to suggest that you use Image Capture to bring the clips into your computer and then import those into FCP. An extra step, but FWIW, that's the workflow I use for the 4S – even though it appears in the import window.
As for your missing Desktop listing, I have experienced that and as I recall I trashed preferences and it reappeared. BTW, I assume shows properly in your Finder sidebar?

According to the list, there is no driver for your printer included in OS X 10.7.
There are a couple of options:
1. Contact HP to see if they have a workaround.
2. If the model of printer is not listed but your printer is a PostScript printer or PCL Laser printer, try the "Generic PostScript" or "PCL Laser printer" drivers. Generic printer drivers may not let you access all the features of your printer.
I have not tried #2, but some people have had success.

because i see some machines (don't remember if was an HP specifically) that when the recovery partition is lost (or when another OS is instaled) a verification check appears and later windows don't start (and reinstalling the actual windows not's an option right now)

I have removed the recovery partitions from time to time on all of my HP business desktops and notebooks, and never had an issue.
I do suggest you contact HP and get a set of recovery disks for your notebook.

I have a new printer which behaves OK except it will not print directly from a web site accessed via Firefox. We do not have this problem if accessed via another browser. Suggestions?

New printer is Brother MFCJ615W. OS is XP. Computer is quite old Dell. Printer also refuses to print pictures from .jpg files - but the fact that I can print direct from web sites accessed via another browser suggests some of the problem is with Firefox. I asked this a few days ago and got an email reply giving me a link to click on - but this only produced an error message.

I think I solved the wifi connection problem, just by switching off completely the router! sounds trivial, but in this case it worked!!!
the funny behaviour of the trackpad/cursor still persists. any suggestion???
