Problematic reverse speed in Audio Subclips

I am trying to create some room tone loops.
I take a portion of an audio subclip into the timeline and 100% speed-reverse it. The resulting clip does not have the same In and Out points that I have given to the subclip but (arbitrarily?) takes a different In and Out point from the original Master Clip and renders it in reverse. (The duration remains the same).
This does not happen if I use a portion of an Audio Master Clip in the first place, instead of using a portion of an Audio subclip.
Is this a conflict that occurs in FCP 5.0.4? Is it some kind of system or user setting?
Of course I could remove the Audio Subclip limits and work with Master Clips, but I am at the end of a project that has been fully logged in subclips and multiclips...
Any answer is quite valuable, since I am editing twenty-three hours of footage with numerous changes in room tones and speech...

Thanks, Patrick!
That's a way to work around it!
Yet, I am trying to figure out a problem-free way of logging that does not have to go through such changes until I finish a large project. I decide about the workflow in the beginning, but I have to change it when it comes to audio subclips and multiclip marking, and this full-of-surprises process is time-consuming and stressful.
Do you know if this is the usual case with FCP's audio subclips, even with the latest upgrade? Or is it just a problem in my system, which I should try to fix?

  • Reverse play with audio

    Hi all
In another place I frequent a poster has asked for suggestions for a media player or software that can play a file forwards and backwards with audio. He needs this feature to help his autistic son. Ideally it would be a simple player that instantly reverses the footage, not just rewinds the action. I can't think of one yet.
I am away from my PE7 software at the moment. Does the reverse function for a clip reverse both the audio and video or just the video. I have not used that function yet myself but I was thinking he could use PE7 to produce two versions of his films. That would not be an ideal solution but may be a way forward if we cannot suggest a player.
    Hope someone can help here.

Yes. When you right click the video on the Timeline, select Time Stretch, and check Reverse Speed, the video and audio play backward, from end to beginning as the Timeline indicator moves from left to right, instead of beginning to end. The speed itself and the duration of the video are not affected.

  • Can you somehow speed up audio recognition of a newly imported file?

When I import a new big file, it can take several minutes even on my very powerful computer for Pr to "read" it sound-wise. I can jump around freely in the video, but without the sound, it often makes it hard to make cuts before it is finished. It would be nice if Pr knew where I was in the timeline of the video and "discovered" audio "nearby" instead of going from start to finish in a linear fashion.

    Nope.

  • 'Reverse Speed' causes crash

    Hello,
I have a project which consists entirely of AVCHD footage from a Canon HFS10.  The footage is 1080i30 (60i) and I have broken it into several sequences so I can put them together in a 'master' sequence in the order I choose.  I wanted to reverse one of the sequences, so I placed the sequence into my master sequence, right-clicked on it, clicked on Speed/Duration, selected the 'Reverse Speed' checkbox, and clicked 'OK.'  Every time, without fail, after 20-40 seconds, Premiere CS4 (4.2.1) stops responding and then crashes.  Sometimes, I'll see a window pop up that says something about rendering the file.  At least one of the times, I saw in the 'Applications' tab of Task Manager a task titled 'Droverlord' which also has a Status of 'Not Responding.'  I have tried this with various sequences made from the original AVCHD footage with the same result.  I rebooted the machine, and I get the same result as well.  Has anybody reading this experienced this problem and if so, any advice on how I can successfully reverse a sequence?
Edit:  I duplicated the sub-sequence that I was unable to reverse within my 'master' sequence.  I then opened the duplicate sub-sequence and reversed the speed of the footage itself, and then was able to place that new sub-sequence into the 'master' sequence.  So, it appears that it has more to do with my attempting to reverse a sub-sequence placed into another sequence, rather than simply 'Reverse Speed' not working at all in my project.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Thanks for the follow up on your issue. Did the issue resolve itself or did you do some strategic troubleshooting to correct the issue?
I ask since this one incident may be symptomatic of program problems that are currently being masked and that need to be addressed. However, as they say, do not mess with a good thing if everything is working now.
But, if the problem returns, please post again with details (answers are in the details).
    Thanks. Appreciated the follow up.

  • BUG: Speed Change + Audio Transition = No Audio-Video Sync

BUG: Speed Change + Audio Transition = No Audio-Video Sync
If you change the speed of clips (125%) and make an audio transition between them (power), the audio runs out of sync. The longer the transition, the more out of sync.

  • Speeding up Audio

Is there a way to speed up audio. Not the time and pitch machine, I want the pitch shift that comes from playing the audio faster.
I'd rather not use the time and pitch machine as the quality is lost in reprocessing. All i want to do is resize a sample so it plays faster or slower.

Unlike with analogue tape, digital audio is broken up into samples which are played at a particular rate. So when you make an audio file play back faster, the samples in that file have to be matched to the rate which you have told Logic to play back at (in your Project settings). IOW, there are two rates; the rate the file was originally recorded at, & the rate Logic uses. Matching these is normally trivial, because they will be the same. If you ask the file to play faster or slower, the two will no longer match & compromises must be made — so you will always 'lose quality'. Some, anyway. But not so as you would notice…
However, you can allow pitch to follow speed in Time Machine, if you choose that option!

  • Reverse speed produced blank footage

Using PrPro CS5 with 2 clips overlaying each other.  I have a sequence with settings 720X480 1.21 widescreen 29.97 FPS
I have a shot of a television shot at 1280X720 and I'm overlaying the screen with another piece of footage that is 720X480 1.0 stretched to wide screen to fit.  I am trying to demonstrate that the footage I have on the screen can be played "backwards" but when I apply this effect (right click on footage, speed/duration, check the "reverse speed" box), the footage play choppy.  It blacks out for over half the duration of the clip.  Any help?

  • Reverse speed=crash

I am using Adobe Premiere elements 11.
I am attempting the reverse a shot. So, I click "Time Stretch" and check the "Reverse speed" box.
However, once I click "ok", Elements suddenly crashes. I did this multiple times, and it still crashes.
    What should I do?

  • Stop tempo changing speed of audio

So Logic X seems to by default change the speed of audio when you change the tempo. How can you stop this from happening if you don't want it to?

Uncheck Follow Tempo in the Inspector.

  • Premiere Pro CC Nested Sequence Reverse Speed Makes Black Footage

So... I have had this problem on three separate projects over the last few months.
2 of the projects were using video files and 1 of the projects used an image sequence. So type of footage does not appear to be an issue.
The issue is the same regardless. The issue below is happening using a DSLR 1080p30 sequence. I have tested this in other sequences such as AVCHD 1080p30 and HDV 1080P30. The issue does not occur on other 1080p30 sequences. It seems to be an issue with the DSLR sequence only.
Create a sequence-> place footage or images in that sequence -> make any needed edits, effects, etc. -> Place the first sequence into a new sequence (this sequence plays back fine) ->copy that sequence or nest the sequence from the project files list a second time -> right click->select "Speed/Duration"-> Click "Reverse Speed"-> Click ok.
This process should give you one nested sequence that plays forwards and one that plays backwards.
The issue that has happened repeatedly over the last few months is that the reversed sequence turns to black footage. If I expand the track the footage still shows up as a thumbnail. Also, the sequence maintains its time. The entire sequence turns black from start to finish.
This is possibly similar to the previous fixed multicam nested sequence issue but is new as of CC 14.2.
Any suggestions outside of not using that sequence type would be appreciated. Also, hopefully Adobe sees this and can verify if there is in fact an update issue that has caused this specific issue.

Rolling back to driver 314.22 did seem to work at first but got the same issue.
Adding footage to the timeline =  working,
Add adjustment layer = stil working
add lumetri effect with a LUT = the Lut isn't applied and the image freezes
Removing the adjustment layer = pause frames are black

  • Beat Mapping is changing speed of audio region, not the metronome!!!

    Hi Everyone,
I just today learned about beat mapping in Logic. I used it on one song that i'd recorded previously without a click track and it worked like a charm. I'm trying to use it on a different song now (same situation: previously recorded with no click) but for some reason with this song, it's changing the speed/length of my audio region to match the metronome instead of changing the speed of the metronome to match the speed of the audio. What's going on?!
    Thanks a bunch.

MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2.0 GHz Processor, 2 GB RAM

Well after many hours of searching through Logic Forums and flipping through the Logic Reference Manual, all to no avail, I've finally figured out what the problem was. I needed to uncheck the "Follow Te(mpo)" option in the Region Parameter Box for the region I was trying to beat map. The beat mapping process wasn't actually changing the length/speed of my audio region like I said it was in my initial post; it was simply playing over it slower or faster in order to preserve the audio-to-tempo ratio as I made the tempo slower or faster. All I needed to do was uncheck that little box and now beat mapping works exactly as described in the Reference Manual. WHY ON EARTH is the "Follow Te(mpo)" box not mentioned when discussing beat mapping?! More importantly, why is it not mentioned ANYWHERE in the entire Reference Manual?!?!? NOT ONCE!!! unbelievably frustrating.

  • When reversing speed on clip back to 100% my sound does not change

I speed up a section of video clip to 150% but when I converted it back to 100% the sound stayed at 150%. Why is this? Also is it easy to separate sound tracks from video tracks?
Sorry I am new to FCP and have lots to learn.

    Welcome to the forum!
To separate the audio from the video, you need to unlink them (Command L).

  • Speed adjustment/audio?

This should be another easy one.
Whenever I select a clip to edit and change the speed from anything other than 100% (normal) the speed changes but the audio goes away.
I want to speed up or slow motion the clip but I want to keep the audio as well.
What minor step am I overlooking?
    Thank You

They say that people do their best thinking while lying in bed waiting to fall asleep...or while laying there in the morning. That's what happened to me, my friend.
Here is what came to my mind. Awhile back I was talking to an Apple rep and when we (actually he) could not get to the bottom of an issue here is what he had me do to my Mac.
    1. Create a new User account if you only have one account.
    2. Close any open applications on your dock.
    3. Reboot your Mac.
    4. Log in under your new User name.
    4. Open iMovie and (because there will be no data there) go to Photo Booth and shoot yourself for about 10 seconds.
    5. Use this new project as your edit for a new movie.
    6. Change the speed of your clip as you tried to do in your original User account and play it at 50% 100% or 150% (whatever).
*7. You will find that everything plays as it should. And it does!*
    8. Reboot you Mac and log back in under your original User name.
    9. Open iMovie and select a clip and change the speed and see if you NOW can here the audio as well as view the speed change.
    *10. Jackpot.....AppleMan.*
Ok, that was while I was asleep, but I never would have learned how to find the codec and/or the other stuff if it wasn't for you.
    Best Regards Always

  • Speed/Duration Audio Issues

Disclamer: I am not PC - I use the word "Native" meaning orginal, NOT to be confused with Indian.
    Situation:
I have a 15 min video clip that I sped up to 115%. The new duration is now 13min.  On the timeline I right click to select the "Speed/Durration" option and increase my video clip speed to 115% of native speed 100%.  I select the "Maintain Audio Pitch" and "Ripple Edit, Shifting Trailling clips".
Select Okay and Premiere Pro CC does a great job of speeding up the clip and the audio.
However, the audio doesn't shound normal and clean like the native audio clip does. Faster, yes but not clean.
Example 2 of what I'm trying to acheeve: At the end of a raido/tv commercial there is a soundbite of disclamers that speeks very fast. like speed talking?
it's almost like the audio has been sped up 200 of native.
    Question and Goal:
My goal is to create the same audio clarity at 115% as to the native audio.
Q: How? How do the PRO's do it?
    Greatly appreciated folks.
I can be contacted by emial at [email protected]
    Thank you.

I also had this problem and it seems that by doing a factory data reset (once the upgrade is installed), they work again.   I also contacted my local Verizon store and they didn't even realize it was a problem.
Just make sure you back everything up with your preferred method and then after the factory reset, re-sync your phone.
Hopefully this will also solve your problem.
Maybe I'm dumb, I've done a bit with my Droid Eris, but I have no clue how to back up the phone (especially my apps, god forbid I would have to re-download all of those) I'm sure my phone could use a hard reset, I seem to have a problem that my phone randomly turns its sounds off, i.e.. no sound when phone rings, can't hear peoples voice and vice-versa. The only way I've been able to solve that problem as of yet is just to power off and back on again.
My phone needs the help of Jesus himself! Or just someone who knows what their doing a little better than myself.
