Procedure restore Differential backup and to restore windows 2003 server
Hello All,
i am sticking at some of the points
1. As per company policy they want to take full SAP offline + Redo log files backup once every two week and twice a week the differential backup. I suggested them the differential backup twice a week but now i have a question in mind since i never done it practically Do i need to have anything else like Log file to restore the Differential backup apart from full SAP backup or i can restore data with only Full SAP backup and differential backup.
2. I am not much familiar with Windows 2003 server backup, If i take full Widows 2003 server backup will i be able to restore windows server along with installed SAP and all other software in case something happen to my server.
if the answer is yes what are the pre-requisite if there be any to do the same. from the pre-requisite i mean do i need to be on same hardware as my previous server was or i can restore it on any other system too?
i will appreciate any reply on the same.
Mani
Hi Mandy,
I am not sure weather you are treating Windows 2003 and SAP Backup i.e SQL Backup as two seperate things.
SQL Backup : If you take MS SQL Backup ( directly from MSSQL or Schdule it from SAP DB13) and take full backup once a week or twice a week eg: Sunday full backup followed by monday, tuesday differential(Midnight) backups and Wednesday full backup again followed by Thursday and Friday differential(midnight).
Should the database need to be restored to thursday @ 4:30 AM, you will restore Wednesday full backup + Thursday diffential + any log files backup taken there after.
Windows 2003 Backup:
Regarding this, You do not have to take Full Windows backup every day. You may take backup of few files / network drives, which can be restored directly while you are logged in to Server. It is sright forward.
Sienario: When whole C drives of Windows crashed. To prepare for this sicenaro, you should take Windows system backup when ever you make chnages to kernal, SQL upgrade or before and after Windows patching.
If the server crashes due to hardware failure, you should restore the server from backup .. ( for this there are different methods, like boot from boot disk and attach tape drive and restore or boot from disk and attach to NAS device and restore, you have to refer Windows 2003 restoration methods or consult your Windows specilist) which will bring back OS, kernal and SQL to normal state. and followed by SQL restore.
Hope this helps.

Hi Balmukund,
We are using Sql server 2005 in production server.we are maintaining two servers.. one for current day & another for Archive data .For the past few months we taking the full backup & restoring the same in the Archive sever. Now the volume
got increased & it takes too much time to restore the full backup. So i am planning to restore the differential backup on the daily basis.I am planning as mentioned below,
Weekly once (say Sunday)- Full backup
Daily backup say Monday to Saturday) - Differential backup.
So i can restore the full backup on day 1 morning.
and can restore differential backup on day 2 morning.
From day 3 to day 6 onwards, how can i restore the same.
Kindly send the script for the same or give me any other idea for the same.Hi... Balmukund
Restored the full backup on day 1 morning.
and restored differential backup on day 2 morning
From day 3 onwards restored the latest differential backup and
changed the database to Standby / No recovery mode
for some reasons, I changed the database mode using the following script.
ALTER DATABASE [DatabaseName] SET READ_WRITE WITH NO_WAIT
Now my question is ,
Kindly confirm Is it possible to restore differential backup in that database
What was the output of your alter database command? Also, if your db is still in restoring mode, you can restore additional diff backups on it. You can check the status of your db with the below query. If the status = online and is_in_standy = 0 then
you have recovered the db and cannot restore additional backups. Will need to restart from full and lates diff again. HTH
select
name,
state_desc,is_in_standby
from sys.databases

The iCloud backup includes most things except non-iTunes purchased but the iTunes backup does not include those either. For what iCloud includes see:

Upgraded to 5.0, restored from backup and see no apps
I decided today to upgrade to iOS 5.0. I first transferred the apps, did a backup and went ahead and told it to upgrade. After the process, I noticed I had a bareboned iPad. Just the stock apps and none of mine. I then did a restore from backup and it's the same situation.
Why didn't the restore bring back the apps?
Now I have to download them agian from the AppStoreAll apps on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer - along with all other iTunes content selected to be transferred to your iPhone. iTunes content is not included with your iPhone's backup including 3rd party apps. After downloading an app with your iPhone, the app should be copied to your iTunes library on your computer the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so - the same after purchasing music with your iPhone.
You can re-download an app with iTunes on your computer and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally. -
Lost my contacts list and try to restore from backup and it ask for my password to unlock my iphone backup. I don't remember creating a password for it. Can anyone help? Thanks.
If you encrypted the backup, there is no way around it. You will need to configure your iPhone as a new device.
From iTunes: About iOS backups:
In the iTunes Summary screen, select "Encrypt iPhone backup" if you want to encrypt the information stored on your computer when iTunes makes a backup. Encrypted backups are indicated by a padlock icon, and a password is required to restore the information to iPhone. You may want to write down the password for your backup and store it in a safe place. If you use a Mac, when you set a password you can select to store the password in the keychain. With iOS 4 and later, you can transfer the iOS keychain backup to a new device if you encrypt the backup.
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device. -

took a back up in iTunes then restored factory settings and then restored back but photos and songs missing
How did the photos get onto the iPad ? If they were synced from a computer then they aren't included in the backup - the restore would look for them in the directory that they were synced from.
And for the songs (and the contents of the Videos app and any iTunes downloads) they are also not included in the backup, the restore would look to copy them back from your computer's iTunes library. Do you have them in your iTunes library, or can you copy them into your library (File > Add To Library) so that you can sync them back ? -
Hi, anyone can help me? I can't activated my ip4 after restored n updated and it's showed activation server is temporarily unavailable and the device can't read my SIM card, can someone please help me....thanks
It is 99% hacked/jailbroken iPhone to use a different carrier than intended. You have to put the sim from the original carrier or ask them to unlock the iPhone. We as well as Apple cannot help you with this.

I upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 7, but cannot restore the backup "error when restoring iPhone (-1)", anyone know what should I do?
That error often indicates a hardware failure.Try restoring a few more times. If it consistently gives you that error, make an appointment at the genius bar to have it looked at.

I have spent hours setting up a windows 7 computer with programs cad files and other software and I would like to log in to a windows 2003 server
without having to start over. Is there anyway to do that without losing anything?
ScottHello, I can't believe your the only one that answered my question.
What I have is 7 pc's that I bought in 2007 they are "HP M9077C" I am trying to
upgrade all of them the same way. I upgraded the memory to 8gb, replaced the
video cards to nvidia quadro k600 and installed windows 7 ultimate on all of them.
I then took just 1 of the computers and installed all of the software and changed the
settings to my preference which took hours to do. After I had the 1 computer
configured exactly the way that I wanted it I made a mirror image backup of it.
I then took that backup and restored it on the rest of the 6 computers that I have.
Now here comes the problem I need to be able to hook up the computers to my
windows 2003 small business server. When my IT guy did that he said that he had
to create a different user to connect to the file server when he did that my desktop
was empty and all of the settings are on the original user. Is there anyway to keep
the settings from the original user and connect to the file server so I don't have to
spend hours on each one of the computers. If there is a way to copy the original
user's settings that would be great. I also need to change the user name on each
computer. Please let me know.
Thanks Scott

Windows 2003 Server and BISE1: a painful way
Hi Forum !!
I consider my self as an advantage one in BISE1 matters. I've installed BISE1 many times on systems running Windows XP SP2 for proof concepts and as a lab environment for production systems setups. Following procedures "by the book" all BISE1 environments were work fine, and all issues are covered by the documentation.
But problems appear when we find Windows 2003 Server based systems. Even following step by step the installation process, we find different kind of problems. Thanks to metalink notes we could fix some, but there are others very strange at all.
For example, In a lab environment, running WinXP we successfully applied Database Patch P5337014 moving database version from release 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3. Then we applied in the same lab environment Warehouse Builder Patch P6264457, moving OWB Repository version to 10.2.0.3.0 and OWB client to 10.2.0.3.33. Later, over a Production environment running Win 2003 Server, we follow the same procedure getting catastrophic results. When we applied the database Patch P5337014, database contro console service fails over and over again sending to the web browser a connection refused message. After a new installation, when we tried to apply the OWB Patch, the Control Center service doesn't work anymore, and none of the metalink notes we found appears to fix the problem.
It is just me or is anyone else who have faced this kind of problems with Windows 2003 Server ? What kind of workaround exists to solve this problems ?
Thanks, and your comments are welcome.Hopefully you can help me too. My company just purchased a MAC BookPro and we all pc based with a PC Windows server. I have been trying to get this MAC to connect to the server. We need it to be able to access files and folder on the PC server to save and retrieve pc files.
I finally I it to where to do the GO > Connect to Server > Type in info > it brings up authentication information, we type in the domain and user name and password > but then I get an error saying the user name and password are not found.
Apple support told me it's now on the pc server side. I know the user name and password are correct. We have installed the Mac components on the server. I don't know if there are some other conflicts with the server or what to do.
Please let me know if you know of anything else I can try.
