Project team-Roles

Hi SAP gurus,
Can u please tell me roles of the each of the persons in project implementation.
1.Program manager
2.Project manager
3.Project leader
4.Team leader (and how many team leaders will be there in a project)
5.Senior consultant
6.Associate consultant.

Hi,
The job roles slightly differ from project to project and compnay to company based on their requirements.
But most common job roles are as follows
1.Project manager :
Project Manager is the person who takes care of the entire project. In coordination with Business Development team, the project manager will propose the no. of resources required, time lines and they fix the cost invoved in the project. And negotiate with the client based on these. Once the project is finalised, then a P.O can be raised from client. once after getting the PO project manager will pool up the requred resources (if they dont have a pre list) then start the work. He will be responsible for all the deliverables. If any thing goes wrong or any time lines are missed then project manager will be responsible for entire project.
2.Project leader
Project Leader and Project Manager are mostly one and same. As I said its dependent on compnay. Some compnaies will call it as Project Leader or Project Manager. So, the roles are almost same.
3.Team leader (and how many team leaders will be there in a project)
As the no. of resources are finalised for each module like FICO, SD, MM, PP (its purely based on the project) then one consultant (normally senior) will be come Team Leader, who will take care of his team members. Normally if the Project is big, then there will be individual Team Leaders of each module (like one for SD, ABAP, FICO, MM, etc). He will coordinate with his team members and will work accordingley to give the deliverables with in the stipulated time lines. He will report to the Project Leader or Project Manager.
54Senior consultant &Associate consultant.
Senior consultants and Associate Consultants are nothing but the consultants who will be working in the Project. Like SD, MM, FICO consultants. They will be incoordination with the Client and responsible for individual deliverables or assigned tasks within the stipulated time. These will report to Team Leader and Project Managers. These poeple normally will do configartaions or customizings, which ever is requred for the project. Senior and Associates are the just designations based on their experiance in that field.
And the Team Size is purely dependent on the Project. Its not mandatory that each project has these many members. If the project is small then the team size will be small and if the projcet is big then the team size will be big. Normally for implementation project the team size will be around 15.
Hope this is clear.
Reward if helpful
Thanks

  • Project Team System Authorization Standards

    hi
i am new guy to security. we are in prepare preparation phase(Technical requirements design) of the implementation project.
i want to prepare documentation for "authorisation standards for project team". and i have to define standards, policies for creating user master records for project team members
please kindly suggest me and provide some documentaion regarding authorisation standards, roles of project team.
    thanks in advance
    Ramesh

    Hello Ramesh,
You'll need to do more research within your project team. As Auke suggested, it is a good idea to interview the consultants and assess their needs. Once you know that maybe you can find some SAP roles that will get you on the way.
Some things to keep in mind:
What do you allow the consultants to do? Hopefully everything they're being paid for. Check with project management to see if they are not stretching their needs. They also know you're new to the stuff and will take advantage by asking as much as possible.
What will you not allow them to do? This is to be decided based on risk assessment, done by management. Risks can be simple stuff like: how often do you make a backup? What are the costs in time and material to restore the system to the last sucessfull backup state? Are you using real data (with corporate and privacy risks) to test?
If you block certain activities and this conflicts with the project progress, what then? Involve the decisionmakers in this design stage already.....

  • SOD for project team & end users

    Experts,
    1)  Is SOD check is done for project team members like the end users?
    2) Normally where the SOD is done for the end users ( VIRSA or 3rd party tools )? Is it checked after assigning the end users to the roles in the PRD or in DEV itself ? Where basically the VIRSA tool is implemented in SAP system?
    3) Is there any special kind of tool to reset a huge no: of users password? ( other than the CATT/ECATT)
    Thanks much,
    Kevin

    > 1)  Is SOD check is done for project team members like the end users?
Project members mostly do not have access in live PRD systems. Once there, treat them like end users. See 2.
    >
    > 2) Normally where the SOD is done for the end users ( VIRSA or 3rd party tools )? Is it checked after assigning the end users to the roles in the PRD or in DEV itself ? Where basically the VIRSA tool is implemented in SAP system?
Your end users only exist in PRD most of the time. No need to create them in DEV. So SOD reporting is done in PRD.
    > 3) Is there any special kind of tool to reset a huge no: of users password?
    Don't know at the moment.

  • Including in Project Team Member importance

    Dear All,
I am supporting solution manager 4.0 system which somebody else configured in our environment. Currently we are in blueprinting phase and all project users are using the Document management to save documents in solution manager as well as service desk future at its full extent to log messages.
I have been creating user accounts in su01 and also accounts in Business Partner list as Employee.
I have just realised that there are user accounts listed in Project team members in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN how ever there are few users created in the bigining when system is setup. I have not been given entires in that area. In the past 4 weeks there are no issues, but can anybody advice if this causes any issue or what is the possible impact ?
    Thanks,
    N

SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN role is for Project Manager who creates project and if Basis Team performs the tasks they should have this role assigned.
    Problem resolved.

  • Project team for WBS-element

    1. How do I maintain the project team for the WBS-element and what is the practical implication of doing that?
    2. How the project team at WBS level is related to Work Center resources at the network activity level?
    Thank you for input.

    Hi,
I think you have not referred the link that Ahmed has suggested. Kindly visit the link and i am sure most of your queries will be clarified.
Besides, there is no such restriction on whether you maintain a Project team or not. Even if you do not maintain a project team you can still do workforce planning, but this depends on the configuration you maintain in your Workforce Planning profile.
Hope this clears most of your doubts.

  • Profitability Analysis for Project and Project Team

    Hello Experts,
Need your ideas and expertise to the below business case, could be simple or complicated, please provide some insight.
the business case is like this. 2 specific project teams are available. there can be around 10 projects executed in a year. So in our PS we can have project team allocated to a project. workforce planning is done for the project for effective utilization, it is like 2 projects with 2 teams assigned. till now it is fine. the business calls for that 1 st team is assigned to another project only after closure of the assigned project.
Let us assume P1, P2,...P10 are the projects in a year. Assume T1, T2 are the teams available. Initially T1 is assigned to P1, T2 is assigned to P2.
Business confirms that T1 will be assigned to P3 only after completion of P1. This requirement is also straight. Assume that team T1 has executed 6 projects and team T2 has executed 4 projects.
The requirement is profitability analysis at project level i.e at P1, P2, ...P10 which is also pretty straight. Business requirement is also to have profitability analysis against each team i.e for T1 and T2. it is like each team has a project lead and team assigned under him. based on the expenses and revenue booked against the team, there will be performance evaluation of the team.( assume that P1, P3, P5, P6, P8,P9 are the projects executed by team T1, we need to have revenue and expenses of the said projects to be mapped to team T1 as well), so we have profitability analysis at team level.
Experts, require your advice on how to map the requirement. Is there any possibility to map projects to team rather assigning team to a project. please advice. provide some insight on how do we map the scenario.
    Regards,
    Murthy

    Hello Murthy,
In SAP you carry out Month end closing activities. In order to carry out this activity, you post all period based data on the project. Subsequently data relevant for Profitability analysis can be determined for the given period and then this data can be settled to COPA.
This data can be evaluated in the project information system or in Profitability analysis.
You can check report KE30 for Profitability Analysis.

  • Monitoring or the Task to the Project Team members in the Project Managemen

    Hi Guys ,
I came across the new requirement of my project . My client is looking for the below functionalities. Please let me know the possibilities.
1.How do you assign a specific task to the Project Team member and how do you know its progress -
    2. If you login from Solman system to other system ( satellite systems ) executing T-codes under Transaction Tab of SOLAR01 , after landing to the satellite system - if we really doesnt have satellite system ids - though able to logged in , if we create any new transaction like - Sales orders , Bilings , etc - on whose name it will be recorded.
    3. What are the standard reports we can get from Solman apart from Solar_eval , Actually looking for the reports for Project status or its progress perspectivie.
    Looking forward for your response
    Thanks in Advance
    Amrita

if we really doesnt have satellite system ids - though able to logged in , if we create any new transaction like - Sales orders , Bilings , etc - on whose name it will be recorded.
are you referring user ids here? i mean you dont have an id in the satellite system but in solution manager you have.
In this case you shouldn't be login to the satellite system. In your Trusted RFC refer check whether current user is enabled or not.
Please note person who is running Tcode from solar01 should have the same user id in satellite with Trusted authorizations on both systems.

  • What's the function of "Team Role" in Team configuration

    Hi All,
What's the function of "Team Role" in Team configuration.
For example, go to Account Detail page, click "Add Users" button in Account Team section, there's a dropdown list named "Team Role".
    In help document, it says:
To explain the role the linked record plays in relation to the main record, select an option from the Team Role drop-down list.
But I don’t understand, can anyone explain this for me?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Bruce,
Team Roles are the access you define to a user you associate to a record. Lets say there are 3 user's A,B and C. If you want to associate All threeto an Account but each should have different access to that account. like A can have Edit, B Edit and delete and C only read only access. so for each user your associating you can control the access exclusively

  • Succession Planning - Support team roles and functionalities

I'm looking for clarification about the role you can assign to a member of a support team for a requisition (object NB)
In Succession Planning (E-recruiting) when you create the succession plan (requisition Object NB) you have to define the support team; persons authorized to process the succession plan.
When you assign a new member to the support team of a requisition you have to specify the role. In the standard there are two roles "Restricted Succession Planner" and "Succession Planner". The first role does not have the authorization to approve a requisition (object NB).
How the role assigned in support team works?; is it related to rights and authorizations in processing a requisition?
For example can I manage the following scenario: the same user has different roles for different requisitions; for example "restricted succession planner " for NB 00000001  and at the same time the role "succession planner" for object NB 00000002? does it mean that the user will not have the authorization to approve NB00000001 but he will have the authorization to approve NB00000002?

    Hi,
the role assignment in the requisition maintenance (no matter if e-recruiting or the old succession planning part in e-rec available till 600 EhP3) is a purely logical or business view. It has nothing to do with the authorization of the user for this object.
The posiblity if you can approve a requisition is defined by the authorization roles only, which have nothing to do with the support team roles. So no matter which support team role you have, if your authorization is wide enough you can do everything with the requisition.
It would not make much sense to link the authorization to the support team. As you can define the support team when you are in the requisition maintenance you could always change your support team role to bypass these checks for approval.
So unfortunately the your scenario is not possible (even some really ugly hacking with context authorization would probably not work because of the authorization buffes and in a business view due to the point mentioned above.).
The support team roles are for documantation purposes who is supposed to do what in the requisition handling and can be used for some technical controling of functions like workflows or printing. So different support team roles are not completely useless.

  • Opportunity Team Roles

    Hello,
On the Opportunity Team record set, there are two fields that gets displayed, user role and team role. User role is the role defined in user administration and team role is the role specific to the opportunity.
Does the team role drive any record visibility functionality other than presenting an email address for the user in the Send Email action on the WF ? Assigning team role is not available in the assignment rule definition as well.
    Thanks

Robin, team role does not drive any record visibility.

  • CProjects-MS Projects Export - Role-Task assignment...

When I export from cProjects, I have data mismatch from cProjects to MS Project.
A task of 5 days is assigned to 3 roles:
    Role 1 for 2 days
    Role 2 for 1 day
    Role 3 for 2 days.
However, in MS Project, the Role-Task-Assignment gets uniformly distributed across all tasks.
    It shows:
    Role 1: 1.67 days
    Role 2: 1.67 dats
    Role 3: 1.67 days.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Girish,
it might well be that this kind of scenario is not supported by the cProjects MSP interface.
I'd advice to check note 1126395 and what it has to tell about your scenario.
    Best regards,

  • Assign Employee to Work Center Vs Project Team

    Hi Experts,
I would like to ask you what are the main implications of assigning employees to the project using "Project Team for WBS element" instead of assigning them directly to the Work Centers?
    Thanks

Project team assigned to WBS element is available for use in all the work center of activities under this WBS. While if you assign a resouce to work center it is automatically available for project team if you want so.
While when you assign people to work center,  then resource planning and capacity levelling is at more microlevel (network activity level).
The workcenter-personnel number is more rigid assignment than assigning a project team to WBS element.
There might be some more points which can have difference in both the process. I expect  otherw will also express their views about them.

  • Project manager cannot see the PROJECTS even it is a part of Project Team

    Dear All.
Describing our official scenario regarding Project Server permission mode.
As in our project server we have business analyst person who initiate a project and he is also the project owner of that project. My query that how he can give this project in the project center of PROJECT MANAGER?
Though i have one category in which i have mark this check "The user is on the Project's Project Team" and i have also build team in the project and assigned project manager in that team. But my project manager unable to see that project.
The only way is that to assign task to project manager then he is able to see the project but this one is not recommend way in our organizaiton.
Please suggest how we can better manage the category and security permissions.
Moreover we cannot use the status manager because status manager is team lead in our organization.
    Thanks
    REGARDS DANISH DANIE

    Hi Danish Danie,
As Dale said, you should definitively switch to Project Server permissions mode. This will give you the flexibility you need and much more ease to maintain and administrate.
Here is an interesting technet article to read: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161361.aspx

  • Autharisation object for  project team for WBS element

    Hi all
My client requirement is when they allotment project team for WBS element some of the user restrict to delete it from menu tab in CJ20N transaction code and particular user only delete it. could any one guide me under which object i can manage this authorization to restrict the user so that in menu tab delete tab is gray out.
    Regards

    Hi,
Using ACL, you can give four authorizations like 'read', 'write', 'admin' and 'no authorization' for a user for the each element (object) of project.
For a user, you maintain the ACL for the whole hierarchy(inheritance) or for individual element.
You can maintain ACL for user group or for Organization Group instead of users as well.
In the project profile in SPRO, we can see three radio buttons for ACL like 'No ACL', 'ACL (No Inhr.)', 'ACL (with Inh.)'. You choose according to your requirement.
For more details please go through SAP Help. Explained in detail there.

  • How to remove a resource from project team without data loss

I have a requirement that, the resource must be removed from a project team after getting DE-allocated from the project.
If i do so, the data of the resource for that project, i.e; actual hours per task filled by the resource gets deleted, which seems not correct. The report for such projects comes out wrong.
Is there any way to de-allocate the resource from the team while keeping all his data there in the project ?
The basic requirement is to restrict the manager to allocate a task to a team member who is not the part of project anymore.

    Hi Abhishek,
If the resource has actual on the project, indeed it cannot be removed from the project team. It is just a matter of communicating with the project manager. Here is how the project manager should proceed.
Open the project in Project Pro
Open the "build team from enterprise" in the resource ribbon
Select on the left side (available resources) the new resource
Select on the right side (project resources) the deallocated resource
Click on "replace": you'll be prompted that the resource has actuals on the project and cannot be replaced and that only the remaining work will be assigned to the new resource.
Doing this, you'll keep the project history, but still the PM will be able to assign the deallocated resource. There is no way to prevent it, unless you deactivate the resource, but it will be at enterprise level, meaning for all projects.
    Hope this helps,
