Quicktime 7 Installation Error

I currently have an older version of quicktime installed(6.5.1). Everytime I try to update it to the new version (7.1.0.210) the installation fails because of Error Number 0X80040707, Description DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.QuickTimePostInstallProc. I've tried the stand alone and the Itunes 6 package, I always get this error. Any help anyone could provide on how to get past this error would be wonderful

the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • QuickTime 7 installation error - cannot install

I'm trying to install Quicktime 7.65.17.80 onto a Windows XP SP3 machine. After selecting the installation options (installation directory/desktop icons/check for updates) the installer gives me the following error:
"The installer encountered errors before the requested operations for QuickTime could be completed. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again."
There are no error numbers or any other information to try and troubleshoot this message. The event viewer gives me the following:
    "Product: QuickTime -- Installation failed."
I have followed KB Article HT1926.
K-Lite Codec Pack was installed. It has since been uninstalled and the system rebooted.

Many thanks for the excellent description of the problem.
I have followed KB Article HT1926. ... K-Lite Codec Pack was installed. It has since been uninstalled and the system rebooted.
It's not an especially easy error message to troubleshoot. I want to first try following up on some possibilities that aren't covered in the standard document.
Do you still have Windows Installer CleanUp installed? If so, launch that again ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). *Don't remove anything at this stage.* We're just having a look.
I presume there are currently no entries listed in there for iTunes and QuickTime. But are there any entries listed in there for either the K-lite codec pack, or QuickTime Alternative?
If there's nothing in there for QuickTime alternative of the K-Lite pack, let's check on a more exotic possibility.
Can you see any entries in there that lack a name, but do have a version number (in square brackets)? If so, what version numbers do you see?
(Best not to include the square brackets if you post back with version numbers. The forum software autoformats stuff in square brackets into a hyperlink. Harmless, but disconcerting if you aren't expecting it.)
(Don't remove any of those, either yet ... there's some msi files relating to SP3 (I think) that appear like that. We don't want to touch those.)

  • Quicktime installation error

I have just downloaded the new iTunes release 6.0.1.3 with Quicktime 7.0.3. However, I keep getting a QuickTime failed message - Error Code -3.
There is nothing in the "support" FAQ about this, and I now cannot open iTunes as it says I need 7.0.3 (not 7.0.2 as installed)
I have uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and re-installed, but still get the same message.
I am on Windows XP 5.1.
    Any ideas??

    I went to
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-u
    s;290301
and downloaded the Cleanup utility near the bottom of
that page. When it installs on your machine it will
scan your computer for every installer every ran on
you're machine. Only select iTunes and Qtime and
delete those 2 installers. Then I think I went to
add/remove programs and removed iTunes and Qtime.
Prior to this Qtime would not unistall but now it
did. Funny thing was there was no prompting by
windows once I hit "remove/repair" in the
    "add/remove programs" functions.
Then rerun the iTunes 6.0.1 update. That had been
failing to install Qtime prior to this but now it
installed and I see all my music again and iTunes
works. Let me know if this does the trick, I hope so.
Thank you for this post -- I also couldn't run iTunes after the update, and was very concerned that I would be unable to access my music (and audiobook) library. Your troubleshooting info did the trick, and I'm up and running.
I guess the smart question would be: what is the best way to backup my iTunes library (files)? It's about 50GB and is monopolizing our hard drive. Thanks for the tip and any help offered.

  • QuickTime installation error message....PLZ HELP

The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\ProgramFiles\QuickTime. Installation cannot continue. Log in as an administrator.  This is the message i get when installing QuickTime.  I am logged in as admin.  and ive also tried changing the file name and it wont let me do that either.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • I tried installing an update to QuickTime. An error occurred and it wouldn't install. I tried removing the QuickTime program, but a window appeared telling me that a fatal error  ccurred during installation and I could not remove the program.  Now what?

I tried installing an update to QuickTime. An error occurred and it wouldn't install. I tried removing the QuickTime program, but a window appeared telling me that a fatal error  ccurred during installation and I could not remove the program.  Now what?

I tried removing the QuickTime program, but a window appeared telling me that a fatal error  ccurred during installation and I could not remove the program.
I think we'd better see if some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in the system files on the PC. (If there's a version mismatch between the old componentry and the "QuickTime proper" componentry, that can create those symptoms.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Installation Errors on Quicktime Update

I really want to know why quick time says "Fatal Installation Error Occurred" when I try to reinstall it and iTunes. Can someone please help me?

    Fatal Installation Error Occurred
Are you seeing any error messages prior to that one showing up, None? (It can appear at the end of a string of errors, and in those cases the earlier messages are the ones that give us a bit more info about what is going on.)

  • ITunes 12.1.1 installation errors and resolution (Win 7, 64 bit)

I am providing all of the installation errors I had experienced
and all of the methods I had tried until I finally came up with a solution.
Hopefully the details will help you see if your situation has similarities
which hopefully will make this post helpful in terms of a solution.
    PART ONE: INSTALLATION ERRORS
I received the following installation errors
when attempting to update to 12.1.1
and later once I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall 12.1.1.
I used this link for the download:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/?cid=wwa-us-kwg-music-itu
    > itunes 6464setup.exe
    I then tried this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1614
    > itunes 12.1.1 64 bit
    Again 6464 in the name.
    After uninstalling the iunes,
    I discovered under add/remove programs:
    apple application support 32 bit
    and apple support update
I deleted these and restarted the PC.
I then tried reinstalling a NEW version
    from the second link above.
    Opened download iTunes 6464setup.exe >
Windows installer> iTunes > welcome to itunes
    > next > installation options > install > user account control
    > yes > next > (error message via pop-up window):
    ERROR MESSAGE ONE

    ERROR MESSAGE 2
"Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service)
failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient permission to start system services"
    SIDE NOTE
There was a USB cable connected to the PC to charge the iPhone,
but the iPhone was not connected. I detached the USB cable from the PC in case it's relevant.
(I did not reattach the USB cable until I finally got a copy of itunes to install. You will see later in this post below.).
    I then clicked Retry.
    ERROR MESSAGE 2 AGAIN
I received the identical 'Apple Mobile Device Service' error as above.
    I then clicked Ignore.
    iTunes > Status
    > User Account Control pop-up window)
    > Do you want to allow to install Apple iTunes>
    Yes >

    > iTunes
    b)
"Apple Application Support was not found.
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes.
Please uninstall iTunes and install iTunes again.
    Error 2 (Windows Error 2)"
    > OK > OK
    ERROR MESSAGE 4
I received all of these errors above
when I had tried a fresh install before returning to the forum to search for answers.
When I had first tried a fresh install, I didn't get as far as the Congrats.
I only got as far as the first and second error listed above
("An error occurred during installation of assembly Microsoft VC80 CRT Type ="win32"...
AND Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service").
Clicked on iTunes icon on desktop
    ERROR MESSAGE 5
I receive the (iTunes pop-up error message window)
error 2 windows error 2 (identical to what's listed listed under 3b).
    PART 2 - INSTALLATION RESOLUTION
    The issue finally is resolved.
    HERE IT IS!!!
    1) Uninstall iTunes
    2) check remaining Apple programs
(click control panel > programs > uninstall)
    > check the listed Apple programs
    Apple Application Support 32 bit,
    Apple Mobile Device Support,
    Apple Software Update,
    Bonjour
    3) Locate and save the correct file version of iTunes for your OS and System.
In my case, it's Win 7.
You must check for the System Type.
Computer > right click to properties > system type.
In my case its 64 bit.
The 32 bit installer is named iTunesSetup.exe,
while the 64 bit installer is named iTunes64Setup.exe.
I learned that some folks had experienced issues with
the 64 bit installer on the Apple site whether it's
because they had downloaded the 32 bit
when they needed the 64 and therefore
couldn't complete the install or in my case,
what appears to perhaps be a corrupted file that stated 6464 in the .exe file name.
This lead me to believe that finding the file with the correct file name and
correct file size to prove it authentic for that version would likely be part of
the solution if not the solution. File Hippo is one suggested means to locate the file.
I locate the iTunes download "iTunes64Setup.exe" that matched the size of the file
to a valid copy of that version of ITunes and I set it aside.
    4) I then made sure that all old copies
and remnants of iTunes and Apple software
has been uninstalled by checking add/remove.
    Then C: program files
and then C: program files (x86),
    then running CC Cleaner,
then cleaning the registry using CC Cleaner
and then checking Tools under CC Cleaner.
***I discovered under Tools that there were remaining Apple files listed
after the uninstall of iTunes and other files had taken place under iTunes***
I visit tools under CC Cleaner and deleted the remaining Apple files
including Apple Application Support, Mobile Device Support, and Bonjour,
***but I leave the Apple Software Update folder as is, in tact***
under C: Program files (x86) and Tools of CC Cleaner and under Add/Remove.
    5) I restart the computer, install the new copy of iTunes 12.1.1 (64 bit),
iTunes64Setup.exe, and it installed with zero errors.
Hope someone will find this useful. Good luck.

Try the "for older video cards" version.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I am not sure about this particular error number. Looking it up in Windows Installer error messages, it says file in use, restart may be required. But I am not certain that it is a Windows installer error message.
It certainly is worth trying a restart.
I would also clear your temporary Internet files and re-download iTunes.
Also clear your temporary directory as that seems to be where the error occurred.
This article on trouble installing iTunes includes instructions for clearing the temp folder (towards the end of the page) and also other things to try.

I have used the oracle's OSR installation guide. I beg to differ if OSR is really enterprise ready product.
I dont think this is a specific problem with my installation. The point is that the installation logs is very poor to put it mildly.
you get a sense that this product is developed by school student and is not an enterprise ready software.

  • 32bit DIFx Driver Installer Error when Installing 9.0.2

Never had a previous problem with iTunes and when I went to use it this morning, it crashes everytime. Uninstalled completely, reinstalled 9.0.2 and now I get an error "32bit DIFx Driver Installer" and iTunes "finishs" installing and crashes after opening again. Have tried unsuccessfully to figure out a fix for this. All my children got iPod Touches for Christmas and I got a brand new iPod nano and none of us can use them now. Please help!

Hey guys! So, I experienced the same issues with the newest iTunes update. I updated several days ago, but I used iTunes for the first time since the update today. iTunes would load but immediately display a message that it needed to close. After several attempts to open iTunes, I reinstalled QuickTime as suggested by another website. Also suggested was trying to repair QuickTime and iTunes. When that didn't work, I removed both QuickTime and iTunes and did a clean reinstall from new downloads. When I did this, I got the 32bit DIFx Driver Installer error. It "finished" the install, but it still closed immediately upon opening. I ran Malware-Bytes and Hijack This to check for spyware/adware/mal-ware a few days ago so I was fairly certain my system was clean...but after two hours of trying to figure out this problem, I decided to go ahead and check for virus or malware.
Indeed, I found six files (mostly located in the System Volume Information folder). After having Avast remove these files...iTunes successfully installed without the DIFx error! So much for being "sure" my system was clean. The files found were all related to the Win32:Malware-gen virus.
So I suggest you check your system for malware and virus infection. I did my scan in safe mode and did the most in-depth search that Avast will perform. I highly suggest doing a full search with UPDATED virus program even if you think your computer is okay.
I have had no issues with iTunes after cleaning my computer!

  • ITunes and Quicktime 7 install errors

    Hi folks
Had no probs with these programs at all until the v7 release. Been running Quicktime Pro and iTunes for a wee while on version 6. When I run the iTunes v7.07 installer I get "The installation of Quicktime did not complete successfully. iTunes needs Quicktime." and it quits back to desktop after that (windows xp pro that is).
I've read some other posts about similar problems, so tried uninstalling itunes and quicktime completely, however, iTunes has gone, but Quicktime won't uninstall now. It's gone from Add/Remove programs, it's "Uninstall Quicktime" icon starts up an installshiel wizrd box then just disappears with no effect. I tried reinstalling the new Quicktime-only installer over the top, same problem...errors during install.
So now, I can't install/reinstall an updated Quicktime, can't uninstall the Quicktime Pro I've already got, I have no iTunes on my machine any more and no way of getting it back on, cos the installer won't work without this Quicktime problem being sorted!! ARRRGGHHH!!!
Any ideas folks? I've tried safe mode...Quicktime isn't listed under Add/Remove programs in there either. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to rebuild my laptop again...I spose it could do with a spring clean, though ideally I'd like to not have to!
    Cheers muchly in advance

    Hey l33bert,
This article will help troubleshoot this issue: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Make sure your logged in as an administrator and security software is disabled. Start at "Empty your Temp directory and restart" and continue down th earticle. It does link to the installer cleanup utility, that blackhillsjen mentioned, and shows steps on howto use it.
some people also prefer to install from Quicktime stand-alone installer: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html

  • Device Installer error - Windows could not load the installer Image.

I am windows XP and have loaded new Itunes 7.7 and the Iphone 3G I just received cannot be recognized by my PC/XP I get a dialog box saying
    Device Installer Error
Windows could not load the Installer Image. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance.
    OK
Of course it is not OK hence why I am here seeking help from this fine community of users of superior Apple products

Deleted Itunes, Quicktime, apple mobile support and updater. Reinstalled and it all worked. Had to do the same thing last time. NOT TOO FUN.

  • Installation error 1607: InstallSheet Scripting Runtime cannot be insalled

I was installing the upgrade 6.0.5 and it got stuck when installing the quicktime part so that I had to terminate the process. When I try to install again I get the error message: Installation error 1607: InstallSheet Scripting Runtime cannot be insalled. What can I do ?

Thanks for your suggestions; they helped me get further along in the resolution of my problem, but did not get me completely there.
I, too, have experienced the same problem tonight the OP had. Earlier tonight (before viewing this thread), I tried installing the latest update to Quick Time and was unable to complete it due to a problem, apparently, with InstallShield. The error message read "1607: Unable to install InstallShield scripting runtime." I found this thread and did as you suggested. I de-activated my firewall (Zone Alarm) and anti-virus (AVG) programs and installed the update, through the address you posted, to my desktop. When I opened the install, the install progressed somewhat further than earlier installs tonight, but then got hung up and the same message appeared. I would greatly appreciate any other suggestions or advice you or anyone else may have so I can resolve this problem. Thanks!
