Rebel XT / Tiger / Quick Help!

Hi everyone! I will be buying my first digital camera today and am looking at the Canon Rebel XT (I need a professional grade camera as I am a writer and will be publishing photos). I know virtually nothing about the mechanics of all of this, so wanted to know of any compatibility issues with Tiger regarding the following:
1. The Rebel XT and its software?
2. The memory card -- which one should I get?
3. Anything other things I might not be aware of?
Quick responses are appreciated -- like I said, I want to nail this down today!

What don't I like about the Rebel XT is how it compares against the Nikon D70 or the Canon 20D in terms of picture quality. Either of these two cameras will give you noticeably superior picture quality, all else being equal, when compared side to side. So much so that if I can at all avoid it I try not to let our one XT shooter shoot with it if at all possible (preferring to loan out a 20D). We have many 20D shooters and a couple of D70 shooters. The one noted drawback to the D70 is the noise at higher ISOs. Yes, glass = lens. You will notice a difference with Canon "L" series lenses over other lenses. I personally do not care for Canon's EF-S lenses and they are "digital" lenses. But then again, I really prefer the "L" series. Of course the "L" series cost more money! If you already have Canon lenses, I would strongly suggest the 20D.

Need some quick help - fairly urgent!

I've just taken over a new job and have been the task of finishing the new brochure for Christmas, there's not a lot to do but a lot of the measurements need changing
This is the layout I'm dealing with..
All the boxes have been made in Illustrator
The text has been done in In'Design and it seems every piece of text is it's own box if that makes sense
My question is, if I select the whole specification box - copy, paste it into Adobe Illustrator and change the text there, then paste the edited box back into In-Design, will I lose quality when it gets printed?
I'm worried if I do it this way it may come out blurred? Or am I just worrying about nothing?

I couldn't find an Illy file in the end and have ended up creating tables in ID to replicate what was already there!
Didn't take very long and I guess if I didn't do it now, I'd come across the same situation next time!

There certainly are viable "quick fix" solutions proposed here, and if the dealine is looming and this file never needs to be touched again I might be tempted, but they are only postponing the pain for a file that needs periodic updates, and I wouldn't waste effort on them, myself, when that time can be put toward a proper rebuild now if that's the ultimate goal.

Need Some Quick Help w/Digital Frame for Xmas Gift Please...

Have a Kodak digital picture frame. I don't understand the architecture of using the SD or USB cards w/the frame. I bought a 1 and 2-gb SD card. When copying my photos to the cards (112 of them), I get about 92 on the 1-gb card and it says full, but still shows most of the disk available, but also says is full so only about 92 photos goes on there. So I try the 2-gb SD card, and exactly the same amount of photos fit??? Why - it is twice as big??? I tried reformatting it to Macintosh but that only made the frame not recognize it, and when I formatted it back to MS-DOS, the frame still does not recognize it...Question one...Why the 1 and 2 gb SD cards hold only the same amount of pictures and how can I get it formatted back to be read by the camera...and can I fill 112 pictures on??? So then I thought maybe a USB stick would work. Bought a 2-gb Lenar Firefly stick and whoa and behold the exact same thing happens...I get about 92 pictures. So I figured which 92 pictures I wanted and selected all the card contents, moved to trash and deleted the pictures, then went back and picked only the 92 pictures I wanted and copied to stick and all show that they are there, but when I go to play them on the frame the old pictures I had on there before are there and not just the 92 new ones. How do I get rid of everything on the disk and get the pictures onto it that I want...I am afraid to erase or format it in any way because the frame probably won't recognize it again. Also, there is one picture that says "Bad file" and I have no idea which picture this is...and can't get rid of it because when I move them all to trash and put the new pictures on the stick that one is still there????? On the stick, I have like 130 MB (112 Pictures). When copied it says 92 pictures with 1.76 GB available...why is this and why can't I copy pictures to that space??? Can someone explain this to me and advise me what I can do, how do I reformat it so recognized also??? Also, I have songs copied to the frame's internal memory, but can't figure out how to play the pictures and also music at the same time????? I also have a Kodak picture frame and had the same problem with my SD card. Two things I learned.
1-Even though you can't see them on the card - there are hidden files. You can see them - use this procedure.

2-The other item I learned is that you must drag and drop the files and then empty your trash. While the reader is connected to the machine.
Doing these two items will clear your card to full capacity.
As far as the "bad file" I am still working on that one. I have little movie clips on my card and believe that may be causing this view..so your music may be causing this message. Start with just the pictures only and see if you can load them onto the frame.

Need a quick help on Pro*C

I need a quick help on Pro*C. Here's the details on the same:
- My program takes one input file as parameter. Lets assume argv[2] is the name of the inputfile, which is my input parameter as well.
- ps_filename = argv[2]; I'm copying argv[2] i.e. filename in a variable called ps_filename
- Now this inputfile can be of two types, say type A_yyyymmddhhmmss.dat and B_yyyymmddhhmmss.dat.
- Therefore for every run I'll have one of this value as input parameter which will be copied into the ps_filename.
- Now I need to call two different functions based on the inputfile i.e. if ps_filename like 'A%' then call func A() else call func B();
But in ProC/C there is no provision to use like operator.
Therefore my question is how can I have ps_filename like 'A%' in C?
Can anyone please help me to solve this issue?

For example, in Pro*C:

Hiding Quick Help Link and Force Display Explanation Message

Hi,
We are using the Talent Profile window in Talent Management and have added custom help text in the explanation hierarchy elements for each view using Floorplan manager configuration. The requirement is for this help text to always be shown when the user views the screen. Also immediately to the right of the explanation text is a link "Hide Quick Help". We would like to Hide/remove that link from the screen so that the users will not accidentally hide the help text in the explanation UI element. Now I have searched the forums here and saw threads such as Show explanation by defaul ("Display Quick Help")? and How to hide Display Quick Help and More Field Help and others. I have tried using the application parameters WDDISABLEUSERPERSONALIZATION and WDHIDEMOREFIELDHELPASDEFAULT.The setting WDDISABLEUSERPERSONALIZATION = X successfullyremoved the personalization options from the context menu. I tried WDHIDEMOREFIELDHELPASDEFAULT and if the user had previously selected "Hide Quick Help", setting this parameter to either X or space did not bring up the Explanation text when that user closed out of and then re-entered the application. Does anyone know how to force this text to display regardless of what the user previously selected?
Also I am at a lost as to how to get rid of the link "Hide Quick Help". Any help will be appreciated.

Show explanation by defaul ("Display Quick Help")?

If I put an explanation element on a web dynpro view, and if I use the design "Emphasized", it is disabled by default. To see it, users have to right click and select "Display Quick Help".
Is there a way to display, not hide, such an explanation by default?

You can use the following code in WDDOMODIFYVIEW. It will never let user disable the quick help.
DATA api_main2        TYPE REF TO if_wd_view_controller.

Show "Quick Help" in WebDynpro application as default

Hi all,
What I want:
I want to create a default setting for my application to always display the quick help ("Soforthilfe" in German).
I thought this should be done easily, but it seems that this is not the case!
What I did:
Opened application in Config Mode (via URL-parameter SAP-CONFIG-MODE=X) and activated quick help in context menu.
-> This should place the setting for all users, which do not have their own setting for the quick help. BUT it did not! (Even after I deleted the user settings.)
Can anyone help me with that?

Quick help needed on reversing the Journals

While importing the data from the GL_INTERFACE the REFERENCE_21 …. REFERENCE _30 are moved to REFERENCE_1 through REFERENCE_10 in the GL_JE_LINES table and the GL_IMPORT_REFERENCES table..
When reversing a posted entry all the 10 reference fields(REFERENCE_1 through REFERENCE_10) are not copied into the new reversed GL line. Only REFERENCE _2, REFERENCE _3 and REFERENCE _5 are copied in GL_JE_LINES table.
Is there any setup, which allows the JE reversal to populate all the reference fields in the reversed line in GL_JE_LINES table?
Any quick help is appreciated.

You can't send emails? Do you receive an error message when you try to send them? Have you done ANY troubleshooting on the device at all? If you don't have time to try things yourself, it will almost certainly take longer to try it in here.

ICal using Tiger/Panther Help?

iCal using Tiger/Panther Help?
I’m sure this is a stupid question but I’m trying to import my iCal info from home to work and back. I have Tiger at home and Panther at work, is there a simple way to import and export and update? I’ve tried thought email and had know luck, it comes thought as raw text. I’m sure there a simple way to do this! Thanks Scott F.

Click on your selected calendar, then Click the Info button on the lower right side of the iCal Window, and the window which opens will allow you to change the color in the color window drop down menu which is located in the upper right hand corner of the Info Window.
Just drag them to change the order.

Mac went blitz while installing Tiger-please help!

I bought a Tiger OS X software cd off of Ebay. It is a grey cd that arrived in pristine condition, without scrathes, etc. According to the seller, it came from a mac training center. I am a mac rookie, and I know very little about macs. My only reason for upgrading was to be able to use the new ipod nano, which requires 10.4.8. I put the install cd into the computer, choose the language, clicked on the "install" button and a screen came up saying that the disk was dirty and the program could not install. I tried to take the cd out, however I could not. The only option I has was to restart the computer, which I did, but still, I could not take out the cd. Eventually the screen went completely grey with a small box in the middle, then it went blitz and showed jumbled typing in white letters with the same grey screen in the background. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this??? I appreciate any help. Thank you!!!

You probably need to format the drive and then install.
Have you backed up your data?
The other option is Disk Warrior, which everyone should own to keep the drive in good shape. http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/
Apple Utilities are OK, but DW's are superior.

Want to erase hard drive and reinstall Tiger- quick questions

I am giving my G4 to my son in a couple of days and it now has Classic on it. My plan is to erase the whole hard drive and install just Tiger. So my thoughts are:
1.) There are no settings I want/need to preserve. I have 4 Tiger CD's- is that the right number? I think I have them all but just want to make sure.
2.) Do I insert CD holding down the C key and from some point when the CD loads, I chose Disk Utility and wipe the hard drive then? Are there different choices for wiping the hard drive? Like the number of passes?
3.) And then is it just a simple matter of installing all 4 Tiger disks?
Any other tips, tricks, advice you can give me? Tomorrow's the big day (2/1)! Thanks so much, I am a bit nervous about this......... Judy

Here are some directions you may find helpful:
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
Select language
Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
Select Erase tab
Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
Click Erase button
Quit Disk Utility.
Installation Process
Open Installer and begin installation.
Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Optional: Check box to install X11 (Tiger) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
Proceed with installation.
After installation computer will restart for setup.
After setup, reboot computer.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
Click Repair Disk Permissions.
Connect to Internet.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo update (PPC)
Computer will restart after installing update.
Repair Disk Permissions as previously.
Go to Apple Menu > Software Update.
Install all updates.
Computer may restart after updates.
Repair Disk Permissions, again, as previously.

I need quick help - iDVD5 crashes

I apologize in advance for the redundance of this topic, as I realize that the issues I'm facing are probably largely documented here, but my problem is I have very little time ahead of me and I can't browse all the topics.
I have 15 odd hours to burn an iMovie film, and here are the issues I've encountered so far :
- When trying to burn a DVD in iDVD5 (updated to the last version), I either get crashes at phase 2 (processing menus) or stalling task bar as it is processing the video itself. Right now it's stuck, no beachball, just the radioactive icon spinning. The video sequence it's actually stuck in was processed in another try, only to stop at another farther in the film.
- I've tried both direct burning and imagedisk burning (via the menu and via that little "plugin" (press alt+ctrl), I'm getting only crashes and stalling.
My config is a dual 1Ghz G4 MDD, and I'm working on my internal HD.
I'm sorry if this has been covered, but I'm very very busy and I would appreciate any quick feedback on this.

Do you have 20GB+ free on your start-up hard drive?
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.

Font problem in Tiger, please help!

For some reason in Mail and Address Book all my info is corrupt.
The word 'from' in Mail is in some condensed font and the copy that follows that is a sentence like a cat has walked over my keyboard. Basically loads of characters depicting the 'contact' etc has been replaced with something not disimilar to this 'dsndjnasdn djsnasodnsx nasdmadas'. Any answers that would help much appreciated.
I have tried to change the systems fonts etc but it still does this. All my contacts in Address Book are listed as a load of letters and numbers.
Answers?
