Receiving faxes

I just recemtly purchased the HP officejet 4630 all in one, but i cant receive faxes... I dont have a phone wall plug in I have my Comcast router for phone service.. Help me please

Hi @Philly_Eagles,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are having some trouble with receiving faxes with your HP Officejet 4630. I am happy to help!
If you are using a Comcast router for your phone service, this means you have a digital phone service, and not a analog phone service. I would recommend to go through this guide, How to connect your HP Fax Device to an ISDN, ADSL, PBX, or VoIP line. You may need to contact Comcast to find out, if your phone service is an ISDN, ADSL, PBX or VoIP line.
Please note: HP fax devices are designed to work with traditional analog phone services. They are not designed to work with digital phone services such as ADSL, PBX, ISDN, or VoIP. While HP fax products are not supported on these types of lines, they might work given appropriate setup and equipment.
Hope this information clears things up for you, and have a great day!

Normally this error requires servicing or replacement of the printer.

  • Cannot receive faxes after upgrading to 10.5.8

Since upgrading, I cannot receive faxes on either powerbook. Sending works fine.

I too am having this problem under 10.5.8
Apple would appear to not know about it because they will only provide help under a warranty, Applecare or on an incident subscription basis.
Forget the Apple help documentaion. It just suggests that you reinstall the System software. That doe not help. Been there, done that. Further documentation suggests contacting Smith Micro, the purveyors of Fax Stf. They had me look in the Applications folder to see if FaxStf was lurking there. It is not. SM say the last time that they supplied Fax software was as part of Jaguar.
You can purchase Stf from Smith Micro for $49.00 $20.00 if you have a registered earlier version. That would have the benefit of tech support and full fax controlling options. smithmicro.com

  • I would like to receive faxes on my iPhone, how?

I see several apps for sending faxes. I tried downloading iFax as it said it could receive faxes, but it instantly said the Apple required me to set up an account. That pretty much sounds bogus. What does Apple have to do with it unless they mean my iTunes account? That usually means they bill me and I would rather know what I am signing up for before I get dinged for it. The iFax website does not have even one paragraph of how it works, or what/if there are charges.
I just need to receive about 10 pages of faxes over the next month. Then I'm done. Is there a simple, free app that can do that?
    Thanks in advance.

iFax is a third party - not an Apple written - app.
Read more about it here (even though I realize you already have it):
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ifax-send-receive-faxes/id331514859?mt=8
The reason I suggest you read about it is that it may explain better how to send faxes, or, if you still have questions, how to contact the company that wrote it.

  • Can send but can't receive faxes on HP Laserjet, on Mac 10.9 Mavericks with TAM answering machine

I have an iMac running OS 10.9 (Mavericks) and an HP Laserjet Professional M1212nf MFP all-in-one print/scan/fax machine connected by USB.  I have a telephone system with answering machine connected.
I can send out faxes from the HP and from the Mac (using Fax pdf).  What I can't do is receive faxes on the HP (I know that the Mac cannot receive faxes with this machine).  I've tried every combination of settings to no avail  even disconnecting the phone/answering machine to no avail.
Any ideas what settings I need?

    Hi ChuckStewart,
This is certainly a head scratcher! I have found some additional information, from the following link Using an HP Fax Product with a Telephone Answering Machine (TAM).
I found this blurb interesting, When recording the outgoing message on your TAM, the voice portion should be at least 10 seconds long, but no longer than 20 seconds . Record 5 to 7 seconds of silence at the end of the voice portion of your outgoing message (total outgoing message length would be your voice message plus the additional 5 to 7 seconds of recorded silence ).
I wonder if you might find something helpful in the document.
    Please let me know. thanks.

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I understand you're unable to receive faxes on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw.  I would like to assist you with this.   Thanks for the comprehensive run-down on your setup - that helps a lot.  With cable internet connections sometimes a filter is required for the fax receiving function to work, yet, I do have some suggestions you can try in troubleshooting the issue.   Firstly, I recommend you adjust your fax speed to slow:  Touch the wrench/Setup buttonSelect Fax SetupSelect Fax SpeedChoose slow(User Guide, p. 129) Additionally, I recommend clicking on your printer's icon on your PC desktop and running the fax test portion of the fax wizard to determine if there's another factor contributing to the receive failure.  You might find this article helpful as well.  Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post. Have a great day,

    Hello DBrad8,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to receive a fax using the Laserjet MFP M177. I will do my best to assist you! First, I need to find out what type of added features do you have on your fax line? Please post these information on this thread.

Do you have an Internet Service on this line?

I have a need to receive faxes now on my HP Officejet 4620, but don't want to print an entire manual right now.

Do I need to change something with the hookup?
Also, I didn't understand if I have to set for wireless or not since I have a router but don't use it much, only when I want to rarely use my apple ipad.
    Thank you ahead of time,

    Hi,
It's a pdf file, you can select and print few pages or even one page. You can also view pdf file on your computer screen.

    Good morning,
I have run the fax test report and followed the trouble shooting information in the manual and still am not receiving faxes --- any suggestions to help get back on line?  All the tests say PASS  for active phone line, phone cord connected to correct port, telephone line current test, dial tone detected on telephone line -- my HP product has passed the fax test -- but I cannot get faxes.  The fax service log is saying no fax detected...   any suggestions -- we use this fax to receive lab reports.

  • HP OFFICEJET PRO 8600 PLUS UNABLE TO SEND OR RECEIVE FAXES

I've had this Officejet 8600 about a year with no problems whatsoever. I scanned a document to computer earlier this week and when the scan finished, I received the message "unable to send or receive faxes."  I've been all over the forum, tried everything on the "Cannot send and receive faxes" page.  My connections are all good, I'm using a two-wire phone cord.  Just out of the blue, it quit.  Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello aimtheflame,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving a message stating "Unable to send and receive faxes" using the Officejet 8600 Plus. I will do my best to assist you! Just to clarify, are you able to scan or copy a document successfully?
If so, then I need to find out what type of added features do you have on this fax phone line? Did you change anything recently on this line? I would suggest following this entire HP document on Cannot Send or Receive Faxes. Try running a fax test report to verify if anything fails.
Also, try turning off error correction mode on your printer:
    1. Press the Right arrow, then press setup (Wrench)
    2. Press Fax menu, press advanced fax setup
    3. Press error correction mode to off
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - no longer able to receive faxes

I can no longer receive faxes!  I consistently get error message 281.  My bookkeeper and I exchange faxes multiple times a week and it has always worked in the past.  She is able to send and receive faxes from her machine.  I am able to send faxes to her, but I cannot receive any faxes.  All other functions (i.e. printing, copying, scanning, and sending faxes) are still working.

This means there are noise on the line, or you are using a non traditional phone line like from a cable company.
Check with your phone company first.
On the fax, try the following:
turn off ECM (Error Correction Mode)
    set a slower transmission speed

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus will not send or receive fax

I have connected the fax machine to the phone outlet, the fax machine dials to another fax machine, the connection sounds like it is being made (the receiving fax machine sends out a noise signalling that it has received a phone call) and then the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus says that is is "Connecting" but no fax is sent. Nor can I receive a fax, even though the phone rings on the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.   The error code I get is Error 388 which is that a communication error occurred during fax transmission.  However, this message occurs regardless of the fax number that I send to, and I had the recipient check that the receiving fax machine was working fine for transmittals from others.
Is it possible that the proble is that  I cannot send or receive faxes through a digital phone line?  That seems odd to me given that almost all phone lines in the modern era are digital.  How do I send and receive faxes with the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus if the only phone lines available are digital?  Also, 4 months ago, I used the same phone line for the same machine, and the fax function worked, but my phone provider assures me that the only phone lines that they have ever provided are digital.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
I am sorry to hear you are having issues with the fax functionality on your Officejet 8600 plus. I have found a document that has several troubleshooting steps you can try to narrow down the issue. I know some of these steps you have already done, but there might be a few that you haven't, like there is a HP test fax service you can use to test functionality.

  • HP Office Jet Pro 8600 N911g Unable to send or receive faxes

Product purchased on April 14, 2014 -  worked fine until July 03, 2014.  When I turned it on, I received the message "Unable to send or receive faxes"  All I can do is click OK.  I also lost the icon on the computer desktop a the same time.  The phone line is working.  I have a dial tone and can receive and make phone calls.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the software.  The icon is back on the computer desktop but still receive the same message "unable to send or receive faxes".  I don't use this feature much, but I will need it eventually......
Also, had HP look up the warranty status so I could find someone local to troubleshoot the issue.  HP said it was out of warranty - purchased in 2012!!??  I've sent in a copy of my receipt for proof of purchase, waiting for a reply from them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
I apollogize for taking so long to reply.  Life got in the way....school, health, holidays....
HP was NOT able to resolve this issue.  They sent me a replacement.  I was happy that they shipped it quickly (within days).  However, I was very unhappy with the replacement unit.  Although it looked new, the lid didn't feel tight and solid.  I thought it would break every time I lifted it.  I reinstalled everything, and it worked for a few days.  Then I started having different issues.  The scanner would not work properly.  It kept going into a "loop" and could not recover.  At first I thought it was because I was scanning multiple pages, but it also happened on single pages.  I do a LOT of scanning, more so than faxing.  I would have to shut the unit off - as in unplug it from the wall outlet - AND reboot my computer.  Then it would work for awhile.  The machine was also noisy when going into a print cycle.  I kept waiting for a paper jam.  I ended up calling HP Support and asking to speak to someone higher up the ranks.  No can do, until they go through the whole process of troubleshooting, an hour on the phone....all I wanted was another replacement - NEW.  Corporate was nice enough to replace the unit again.  However, they explained that there are NO NEW units upon replacement.  They are considered refurbished even if they are new, due to some "law".  Whatever.  Send me a unit that has a tight lid and works properly.  This unit took longer to arrive than the first replacement.  Long story short, worked fine for a short amount of time and then the same problems.  Now it gets hung up during printing AND scanning. (I have not bothered with the fax.)  In my opinion, it has to be a software problem within the unit.  It's a shame.  I really like the software program when scanning; through the years, I've tried Canon and Epson before returning to HP.
In my opinion, I think it is a KNOWN issue to HP and they are unable or unwilling to fix it.
My solution - I wasn't going to call HP and waste more time.  I went out and purchased something else for Christmas.
I will say that I had to visit my insurance agent when all this started, and I noticed that she has these units in her office - about four of them.  They work great, she has never had a problem.  However, she doesn't use them for faxing as she has a separate machine for that.  In a way, I wish I had kept my original unit and just given up my fax capabilities.  Hindsight is 20-20.  Hope my experience will help you make a decision.

  • What is the best way to hook up a telephone line to an i- mac so I can receive faxes directly to my computer?

What is the best way to hook up a telephone line to an i- mac so I can receive faxes directly to my computer?
I tried usb modems.  They worked ok for 32 bit usb's but Lion only allows 64 bit.  I bought one from Best Buy and it works when it wants to.  Mostly, it doesn't want to!
Is there a way to connect through a time capsule?

    Thanks for that!!
    Zoom - 56K V.92 USB Mini External Data/Fax Modem
I didn't look any further than this.  I bought this at Best Buy and like I said, it works somesimes.  It does not trigger the fax automatically when the phone rings.  You need to have it manually answer.  In the past, I had the 32 bit Apple version of this external USB modem and it worked without issue.

  • Sending and receiving fax documents

I am wondering if there is a way to send and receive fax documents through my iMac. My internet connection is through a cable modem and have only found a way to fax using a modem. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Unless your iMac has a built-in modem port, you will have to use an external fax modem for direct faxing. Otherwise, you can use an internet fax service such as eFax or FaxZero (US/Can only.)
