Removing Unwanted Sound Devices

Hi People,
I had software for Epson data projectors installed which added EPSON Projector Audio to the Sound Devices list in the Sound Preferencepane. I have used the uninstaller to remove the software, but the Sound Device is still listed. I am unable to locate where this file might be so I can remove it manually. Any ideas?
Andrew

Then you may find using the freeware, Easy Find, for this. Usually much better than Spotlight for finding such files - you will find it at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Plug-in and Removal of sound devices

    Hi,
    We're having a problem with USB sound devices. When our application is running, we can't determine if the user has plugged in or removed a sound device. After the first call to AudioSystem.getMixerInfo(), it always returns the same list of devices.
    Is there any way to get the list of devices that are currently available?
    Here is some example code to illustrate the problem:
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.util.List;
    import java.util.Vector;
    import javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem;
    import javax.sound.sampled.Line;
    import javax.sound.sampled.Mixer;
    import javax.sound.sampled.SourceDataLine;
    import javax.sound.sampled.TargetDataLine;
    public class DeviceEnumerator {
        private static List<String> enumerateDevices(Class<?> lineClass) {
            List<String> ret = new Vector<String>();
            for (Mixer.Info mixerInfo : AudioSystem.getMixerInfo()) {
                Mixer mixer = AudioSystem.getMixer(mixerInfo);
                Line.Info lineInfo = new Line.Info(lineClass);
                if (mixer.isLineSupported(lineInfo)) {
                    ret.add(mixer.getMixerInfo().getName());
            return ret;
        private static List<String> enumeratePlaybackDevices() {
            return enumerateDevices(SourceDataLine.class);
        private static List<String> enumerateCaptureDevices() {
            return enumerateDevices(TargetDataLine.class);
        private static void findAudioDevices() {
            List<String> playbackDevices = enumeratePlaybackDevices(), captureDevices = enumerateCaptureDevices();
            System.out.println("Found " + playbackDevices.size() + " playback devices:");
            for (String s : playbackDevices) {
                System.out.println("  " + s);
            System.out.println();
            System.out.println("Found " + captureDevices.size() + " capture devices:");
            for (String s : captureDevices) {
                System.out.println("  " + s);
            System.out.println();
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            System.out.println("Press Enter to start ...");
            try {
                System.in.read();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            while (true) {

  • How can I remove a sound device?

    I downloaded some software to try to change my voice during skype calls so I can mess around with my friends, but the softwares didn't work, so I fully uninstalled them, but these devices keep showing up in my sound output/inputs and it is rather annoying. I want to know how to remove them. Please help!
    Oh and I have had plenty experiences with macs so I know what to do when you tell me.

    Have you checked the developers web sites for uninstallers or contacted them for instructions?

  • Removing unwanted sound in CS 5.5

    Hi there. I'm using CS 5.5 and need to remove an unwanted 'clicking' noise that has come through in a project - it coincides with an interviewee speaking. The noise occurs frequently, but not consistently, throughout the footage. Is there a tool I can use to isolate the noise and remove all instances of it in the project, or are there any other tools that might help me with this problem? Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

    Do you have Adobe Audition?
    If so, it has a great tool to Repair Transients, and that tool works beautifully.
    I have also used Click Removal, but it is a bit broader, and I more often just go to Repair Transient - for me, its default is about 99% for most Transients. I am amazed at how well it removes Transients, while leaving the other aspects of the Audio untouched.
    Good luck,

    hi Pinball_Wizard,
    Welcome to the Forums.
    CD/DVD issues are commonly fixed by running the microsoft hotfix from this article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116
    If the problem is not solved, the issue is most likely hardware related. Either the ODD is faulty or the connection from the ODD from the motherboard is failing. If you don't have an external USB ODD enclosure (like this one) to test the ODD, then you may need to bite the bullet and just replace the ODD directly.
    Best regards,

  • [SOLVED?] KDE4: Removed sound devices popup appears when sfx is played

    edit: Marked as solved because this problem hasn't occurred for a while. Will be re-opened if it occurs again.
    When doing something that triggers a KDE desktop sound effect, such as emptying the trash or searching for something in Kate, this popup appears:
    This happens only once per boot. After closing the window it doesn't reappear until the system is rebooted. All sounds work well, without any problems. ALSA is used, no Pulseaudio or other sound servers.
    Any ideas what to do? Should I click "yes" when it wants to "forget" sound devices? There are multiple reports about this problem at the KDE bug tracker but I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a configuration error.

    There were some duplicate devices listed in the Phonon settings panel so I let it forget those. Now it only complains about one device.
    This doesn't have duplicates and it won't go away even if I let it forget it. It appears again after reboot.

  • My sound device does not work after yesterdays update

    after the last update my sound device is out of system.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
    Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • How can I remove a Input device from my Mac?

    Hello, I would like to know how I can remove a input device from the Sound area in System Preferences. I installed Wiretap Anywhere a sound input program for my Mac and did not realize It was not supported for Moutain Lion. I put the application in the trash and then emptied the trash can. Now whenever I try to start GarageBand or a program like that it crashes my computer. In the Input tab of Sound (System Preferences) It is listed as Wiretap: System Audio.
    I would like to remove this from the Input tab so I can use my Mac reguarly. Any Ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Justin

    Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
    Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
    Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
    You may have to log out or reboot in order to complete an uninstallation.
    If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
    Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

  • Removing Unwanted Noise

    Greetings!
    I'm editing a feature film on Final Cut, and there's a scene in a nightclub. The dialouge is very clearly recorded, but running through all the footage is a bit of a hum, mostly from the power going to the lighting grid above the actor's head.
    Now, I'm not asking for a step-by-step way of removing this ... if there even is one... but if someone could point me to the right filters to use in Soundtrack Pro... I would be highly grateful.
    Cheers,
    RickytheGriff

    hi
    I recently worked on a commercial where the camera wasn't sealed correctly and you could hear the rolling sound of the 35mm film throughout a very quiet piece with dialogue.
    I opened the aif in the STP audio editor and selected a section where there was just the unwanted sound and from the Process menu choose 'select noise print' and then choose 'reduce noise' - there are some paramaters here that you can tweak and preview before you commit the action to your file.
    anywhoo, it worked a treat!

  • Sat 1710: sound device problems

    I hope somebody can help me out with a problem i'm having with sound on my satellite 1710/windows ME nd I really don't know much about comuters!!
    I have only had this machine for a few weeks (second hand)and the only sound I can get fromm the machine is the start up bleep, and I am not 100% positive that there ever has been sound. Checking the sound option in control panel actually shows no playback devices in the sound playback preferred devices. I have removed the sound driver from the device manager and after a reboot a crystal soundfusion(tm) cs4281 wdm audio driver was installed - but no luck with sound i'm afraid. I'm presuming that there must be asound card if startup generated the notbook to auto install the crystal software.

    Hi,
    yes there is a crystal audio device available and it is normally detected by ME like in your case!
    Firstly you should enter the BIOS with ESC after starting the notebook and load default settings.
    Did you get the Toshiba recovery CD when you bought the notebook second hand? If yes you should recover the notebook and unless the audio device doesn't work after that it might be a hardware failure!

  • Removing unwanted applications

    How can I remove unwanted applications that came with the device?  For example if I am not planning to use "Yahoo Messenger" I would like to remove it and its icon from the device

    It's pretty straight forward.  A 'greyed' out icon just means it is so called 'hidden' which is really meaningless because you can still see it????  (Come on RIM - we're not stupid!)  If you have gone to Options/Advanced applications and selected your application and then selected Delete, you have followed RIM's Knowledge base article's instructions on how to remove an application.  All they do extra is suggest to Restart your phone.  NOTE: Removing an application will also remove it's icon.
