Preparing to send iMac back for replacement.

I am planning on sending my iMac back for my replacement tomorrow and I have everything I need backed up safely. I want to erase the hard drive before I send it back and have read the instructions on how to do so. I have the OS X install cd's and I plan on installing the operating system after I erase it. Question is - do these discs include iLife? iLife obviously came pre-installed on my machine - so I would imagine that one of these discs will include it - but I could be wrong.
Anyone have an answer?

See if it's either on your install disc, or the additional software one. You can check before you erase the disk by using [Pacifist|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743] to check the install package. I believe it did come with your Mac, I know it's on mine, but I'm not sure if it was also in the package or was just preinstalled with no way to reinstall it.

  • Restored my Iphone 4 before sending it back for replacement, is that ok???

My Iphone 4 had a problem where the sound would not play. For example I could not watch or listen to music through the internal speakers, here calls being made to me or here the person on the other line. Basically it was stuck in headphone mode and nothing I did, you name it, i tried everything did not work so Apple told me to send it back of which I have done. I just want to know if its ok that I restored it to its original settings. There is no music etc on the the Iphone anymore but for apple to be able to see what I am talking about when the Iphone does not play music etc on it through the internal speakers they will need to have a song or something on it to identify this issue. Would you know if they will put music etc on to test this or not?

The first thing Apple will do is erase your phone, so you doing so before hand is not a problem. They have diagnostic equipment that can tell instantly if there are any problems with your phone.

  • Sending MBP Retina back for replacement

    Hi, first time posting
I bought a Macbook Pro Retina 13" a few weeks ago. The display stopped working, I took it top an Apple Store, and they are sending a replacement by courier within 2 days (and taking the old one back). I thought i should wipe the hard drive before sending it back for privacy. I've got everything backed up to TimeMachine. I can access the computer by using and external monitor. All of the instruction regarding wiping a Mac's hard drive involes using the install disc, but the Retina models don't have a DVD drive. How do i wipe the hard drive of my personal data, but keep the OSX on it for when I send it back to apple? Any thoughts? Thanks

  • Hi how are you i want to replace my iphone 4 with a new one. But i am in Darwin, there is no any apple stores. So where can i send my phone for replacement and how much for that?

Hi how are you i want to replace my iphone 4 with a new one. But i am in Darwin, there is no any apple stores. So where can i send my phone for replacement and how much for that?

Warranty and Support are only valid in the country of origin.  You will need to take the device to whatever country it originally came from.
Apple will not accept shipments from outside the country nor will they return it to an address outside the country.

  • My ipod doesnt work n i want to send it back for retailing is it free of do you have to pay if yes then how much?

my ipod doesnt work n i want to send it back for retailing is it free of do you have to pay if yes then how much?
(it jus keeps on buffering insted of turnoing on)

If covered by warranty and the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost.
For how to send it to Apple see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod
You can make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    However, have you tried:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Send my iphone for replacement, Iphone is replaced and has a new IMEI. Now I need to pay approx 100 Euros to get my phone legally registrered again in Turkey.

The thing is if you get a phone from another country and want to use it in Turkey you need to register your IMEI code and pay a fee of approx 100 euro to get it registrered officially + u need to show a stamp of entering the country on your passport. This is done to prevent stolen phones to be sold.
Now the thing is.. I registrered my imei of my iphone 4. But after some time the homebutton wouldnt work so i send it to get replaced. Now the iphone 4 got replaced = refurbished = new IMEI. That means I got to register again and pay 100 euros.
Internally Apple knows that my old IMEI is replaced to another one. Cant I get an official document or whatsoever to prove it?
Does this mean I am screwed ? (Pardon my English, its not my main language.)

All cell phones, when replaced, will have a unique IMEI. This is not unique to Apple. If you want documentation that it was replaced by Apple, ask Apple for documentation.
We have no way of knowing whether they can or will provide this. We're just customers like you.

  • Just received my iPod, now I have to send it back for repair. What?!?!?!?!?

I just received my iPod today. It isn't working correctly. I called tech support and they said send it in for repair and it'll be back in about 2 weeks. What? I just got it today. Shouldn't they just send me another one? Am I being unreasonable?

I don't think that you're being unreasonable but I also don't think you'll get anywhere. I don't object to such an inconvenience if a problem occurs after purchase. However, I have a serious issue with having been sold a defective product.
    Good luck!

  • Sending iPod in for replacement but...

    Hi there,
I just received my package to send in my iPod nano 1st gen in for replacement. Upon reading the instructions it says to fill out the waybill and to attach it onto the bottom of the box. My package didn't have a waybill included, just the instructions, foam and tape. Should I call apple and ask for a new box in regards of not having a waybill or should I not have to worry about it?

If the packaging already has a bar code on it you do not need to worry about filling out the waybill.

  • Address of apple to send in ipad for replacement

I would like to retun my ipad for an exchange, sine my ipad was faulty and customer care has asked me to send it via post,
can any one give me the addres to where i haev post it, so that i can get a new one

    Hello, Genusha,
The information Carolyn pointed you to would be applicable if you just received your iPad and it was faulty right out of the box. Otherwise, you must contact Apple tech support and get approval to send in your iPad. Once Apple agrees that it needs servicing, they'll send you a prepaid shipping box with the appropriate instructions and address labels. Do not attempt to ship it to any address at Apple yourself; Apple will just reject the shipment. You can get more information here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
You can also take the iPad to an Apple Store, if there's one in your area.
    Regards.

  • HT4314 I have two games Tribez and Tribez and Castles on my iPad. I have to send my iPad Air back for repair to crack glass. Is there any way to save the games., for when I have to restore back up

I have two games tribez and tribez and Castle. As my new iPad air has a cracked screen I have to send it back for repair. I have to do a reset and restore backup when I get it back. Is there any way to back up above games. On tribez I have reached level 99 and will be annoying to starts again.

Do you have a computer with iTunes on it that you have associated the iPad with?
If the answer is yes, simply set iTunes up to back up the device locally, fully sync the apps, photos, movies, etc. A copy of everything, including the config of the device and all your settings (scores) will be made on the computer's drive. This even includes a backup copy of all the apps. When you get the replacement device (probably a refurbished blank unit), a Restore from that backup will totally reconstruct what you have today.
If the answer is no, you will have quite a bit more work to do in order to get back to the original state that the iGadget is currently in (minus the crack).

  • Send back for Repair?  Heat.  Firmware.  RAM.

Any experienced MacBook Pro users out there who can help me with my situation?
    1. Brand new 17" MacBook Pro arrives (after waiting over a month from MacMall) and I install 1GB of EdgeCorpTech RAM, run Software Update, and install Final Cut Studio 5.1 (Universal) and run Software Update again.
    2. Start working and during an encode in DVD Studio my brand new expensive Mac crashes. Tried about 7 times over and over again, each time either rebooting or hard locking.
    3. The heat! The area above the keys is so hot you could burn yourself. The more it works, the more it heats. I hear no fans trying to cool it down, but then they might be very quiet. (I've heard the fans in an older PowerBook, and they are really loud. Are these supposed to be similar?) I've read a lot about this issue, and thought it might be why my system was crashing. I've also read that it's a "feature" where it acts as a heat sink. When I called Apple, they asked me a bunch of questions like they were taking a police report, and told me I needed to send it in for repair, but I would like to avoid doing that. If it runs this hot and the surface is a heat sink above the keys, I guess I'll just put up with it; when you're cooking you keep your hands off the frying pan! Think different, right?
    4. I removed the 1GB of Edge RAM and no more crashes. It successfully encoded and it seems to be working, but the heat issue remains. I'm sending in the RAM for exchange. (Now I'm reading that someone else had this issue and that it may be the system having 2GB installed, regardless of the brand. I'll be able to test this in a few days when I get the new RAM.)
    5. I puchased this Mac for a job, so I really don't want to be without it since I lost money waiting for it to arrive. Not only would I have received my order weeks ago had I ordered it from Apple, but Apple tells me they would have sent me a new one since I'm having this type of issue. Since I purchased it from MacMall, however, I was told I needed to contact them about it. I did, and MacMall is horrible. They tell me they have a "no return policy" on this. So they charge me brand-new price for a system that may need to be refirbished? They told me I needed to contact Apple. That's the last time I order from MacMall.
    6. Apple sends me a shipping box to send it back for repair. I will be without it for 1-2 weeks. They also tell me I can go in and speak to a tech at one of their retail stores. I call the store to see if there's a tech available and they tell me I would need to come in to find out. Sheesh.
    7. I'm hearing that a firmware or SMC update may do the trick. I have the following now:
    Boot ROM Version: MBP12.0061.B00
    SMC Version: 1.5f8
I called Apple support back 3 times and spoke to 3 different people. So far no one at Apple tech support has been able to tell me if I have the latest version.
    To recap, my questions are:
Is this kind of heat normal?
Do I have the latest firmware?
    Should I have it repaired?
If so, should I send it in or take it to the Apple Store?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
    MacBook Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Thanks, people.
I'm worried about sending it back not just because I'll be without it but also because I've read horror stories about how they ding it up during repairs.
Do firmware updates go through Software Update? I've heard they don't, and if there's a new version my Software Update is not finding one. I can't find any info on the Apple site, and Apple Support reps don't know either.
If the heat is more of an issue with me than it is with the system, I can put up with it. Since the Apple Support reps can't even tell me what the latest firmware version is, perhaps they don't really know how hot the 17" MacBook Pro is supposed to run..?
When I ran the hardware test before, I didn't notice the fans running at full blast. I usually notice that sort of thing. Maybe my fans are not working. I will run the test again and make sure to pay more attention. Does anyone know if the fans on the 17" run more softly than the others? Also, to notice this, would I need to run the full test or just the quick one? I'll try both...
Thanks again for all your help and advice...

  • Many complains about screen shadows, will they fix it finally? I have to send it back 3rd time...

It's the 3rd time that I have to send iMac back to support for the screen, as again shadows do appear on the top corners of the screen. And is not only me, I know two more people with same issues...
Do you face the same issues, and after visiting support, the issue happened again ?
What else can we do ?

I am about to send it in for the 5th time. Well, the second for this machine, they replaced it back in november and I already had the display changed once. This time I have yellow tinge on the lower-right side of the screen and the usual stains that periodically appear in 3 months time. They say it's an environmental issue, I say it's because of the low quality of the display itself. None of the other displays I have, not even a 2560x1600 Dell display, present this issue. I fear that as long as Apple will not acknowledge the stains issue we'll never see the end of it.

  • Charging issue - other ideas before I send it back?

I was given an 80GB iPod Video for my birthday last October. Since then, I've used my iPod on numerous occasions, although not on a daily basis. My iPod still seems pretty new to me, and I hate the thought that the battery is shot but I have no reason to believe otherwise.
    *Here's the scoop:*
Recently, I left my iPod on its dock overnight as I listened to music and charged it. The next morning I removed it from the dock and it was dead within seconds. I have tried charging it numerous times since then and it won't hold a charge to save my life.
Each time I pull it off the wall charger it shows a full-battery logo but upon attempting to play one song, it flashes a message about not having enough battery and then dies. When I pull it off the USB it simply dies immediately.
I have tried different USB cables and I have tried different wall chargers, but to no avail. I've read through posts, surfed apple.com's FAQ and forums, and troubleshooted (using the 5 R's recommendation).
I'm currently staring at my struggling iPod as it tries its hardest to gain a charge while connected to the computer...and I'm also gawking at the AppleCare Repair Service package they've sent me to return it to them in.
I'm fully prepared to send it back to the company but my concern is maybe I've overlooked another option? Apple sent me a confirmation email after I submitted a service request form and in it they explained that a fee may be assessed if they find my iPod is not in need of replacing, but only needs servicing. I'd like to avoid this if there is something I can do for it myself (even though I highly doubt it).
I just once again toggled the Hold switch and followed through by holding the Menu and select button at the same time. It lit up with the Apple logo and then faded out. I've watched it light up with the Apple logo a few times since then and each time it fades away and returns to the "Please wait. Very low battery." logo with the animated spinning symbol below it. Meanwhile, I can only do this while it is connected to the computer or I can't do it at all as, well...it dies.
I am succumbing to the fact that I need to send it in, but this is where I turn to you for any last minute ideas before I ship this baby back.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome. Thanks for your input and your time.

    So I figured...
I just wanted to see if there was anything else I could possibly try before I sent it off as Apple seems pretty stringent on their policies.
I have scheduled a pick-up with DHL this afternoon, so it's pretty much a done deal and it's going back.
    Thanks.
