Replacement of an Augidy 2 ZS Platinum c

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum. Recently the card went bad (one of the outputs on the back died), but output and input from the front panel work fine.
I purchased an Audigy 2 ZS card on ebay and hooked it up, but the controls for the front panel do not show up (i.e. "headphones), but the rear outputs work fine.
Thinking it could be something with the expansion connector, I put in my original card, and didn't connect the ribbon cable and "headphones" shows up on the controls. This makes be believe it is something different about the card and its configuration.
Is there a difference between Audigy 2 ZS cards? They look physically identical. If there is a difference, is there a way to flash or configure this card so that it recognizes the front panel, or is it that this card is bad?
Thanks,
Ken

  • Replacement for Inspire 5700 + Creative Audigy Platinum

    Hi,
for many years I have been using a combination of a Creative Audigy Platinum soundcard with a Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5700 speaker system. I am very pleased with the quality, compatibility and easy-to-useness of this system. For games and music, I let the soundcard do the decoding and send the bits via digital connection to the Inspire system, which I set to 5.1 DIN. For DVDs, I send everything via SPDIF and let the Inspire do the decoding, either DTS or Dolby digital. Works just perfectly.
Only problem: if everything works according to the plan, I will move from Europe to the States in two months and stay there for - 3 years. Because desktop computers and probably also my Inspire 5700 system are quite tricky to ship, I decided to buy a laptop here and buy another speaker system by creative after I have a arrived in the states. Full of anticipation I checked this site to choose my future system and ... was struck by shock:
I couldn't find any system which offered the same features as the Digital 5700! All modern systems lack digital input, leave alone an external decoder and have primitive wire-remotes instead of real remotes! Why has this kind of great system disappeared? Of course you cannot buy the good old 5700 anymore, which leaves me with a great problem of how to organize a system which offers similar quality and features.
I originally planned to connect my laptop (ASUS A8JS) via S/PDIF to the new inspire 5.1 speaker set, which would then do the job of decoding digital audiostreams coming from DVDs. But well, since the new Inspire sets neither support S/PDIF nor offer external decoding, that idea has been flushed down the toilet
What do you recommend instead? I guess I will need a USB Sound Blaster in combo with an inspire speaker set. What will provide the same quality to what I had? What are the drawbacks of not having digital connections any more? How can I control sound levels of the subwoofer, center and rearspeakers, if there is no external decoder anymore? Only via software?
Thank you very much for any advice!

Thank you very much for your helpful replies! Future looks much brighter now
Where have you found the Audigy 2 NX? On their webpage, creative only list the USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor or the Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External as USB-solutions. Since I don't need the video editing capability, the Audigy 2 ZS would probably be quite an overkill. Still, the price difference between Audigy ($250) and Life! ($50) is ... drastic! Besides the video stuff and some connections, what else is the Life! solution missing? Does it have poor quality? Is there no real 3D sound, just some kind of upmixing? It's not very clear from the specifications.
The Logitech Z-5500 Digital looks very promising, too. A consequent improvement of the Inspire D-5700, just by the competition I may go for that one, but probably still need an external soundcard for 3D-sound in games.
I am not exactly an expert considering connections. So, my laptop will already have digital S/PDIF built into the headphone plug. Just from the look, I'd say this is the same kind of plug which is called "Analog/Digital-Out" on my old Audigy sound card. Now, the logitech system supports digital optical or digital coaxial as source input. Will this work with the S/PDIF headphone out, or would it require the DIN connection you mentionned? Could this be easily solved by buying an adaptor?
Looking at the picture showing the connections of the SB Life! I again am not clear at all what kind of connections there are (http://us.creative.com/products/prod...Specifications ). Is there anything compatible with the Logitech system? I guess it's no question the Audigy2 ZS is equipped with the required connections.
So, to summarize my question: could I digitally connect either my laptop or the SB Live! 24-bit external with the Logitech Z-5500, so that the latter would take care of decoding Dolby Digital and DTS sound, while the sound blaster would provide EAX and 3D sound for games?
I have also seen that Creative Labs still offers an external decoder with a lot of connection possibilities. It's just no longer part of a speaker system, but rather a standalone product: the Creative Decoder DDTS-100 for $30. Together with a good speaker system, this may be an alternative to the logitech solution, in terms of enabling to plug in other devices than just a computer (another thing I really loved about my old system).
Well, again thank you very much for your advice!

  • K9N2 SLI Platinum Freeze

I did a build 3 weeks ago and everything was smooth as silk. Then this morning was reading up on the news online and system shut down. Try to turn power back on and all leds light green to say OS loading but nothing happens. No post, no bios, no feed out any of the video. Have tried swapping out memory, video cards, using on-board video, clearing cmos, pulling battery and let it sit for an hour. Nothing I do makes any change. I press the power button, the d-led lights green instantly, green #15 for power and the orange for standby, both for the pci-e cards. Please let some one have an idea other than replacing my cpu.

Man oh man, I found the issue alright. After trying everything under the sun including all your suggestions, I finally pulled the ruby orb cpu fan off. Scorch marks on the CPU. With low running temps, I'm not sure how it could be other than just a bad cpu. Tigerdirect(whom I purchased it through) said they refuse to exchange it even though I'm under 30 days, but luckily after contacting their supplier (no help from tiger) they are going to swap it for me. Only fear is, could some fault have happened on the motherboard to cause this? Or could the psu have spiked? But if the psu spiked, wouldn't the motherboard be completely dead instead of just unresponsive? Also, one chip on the board above the am2 plug-in and toward the rear looks a little different. Not cooked so much as just not as shiny as the others near it. Could there be a problem there? Don't want to be sticking in a new cpu just to have it fry cause of the motherboard being faulty. Thanks for your ideas.

  • P35 platinum, memory and videocard questions

    Hi folks.
I recently had a problem with an Asus P5K board in the sense that it doesn't allow use of 8gb of ram (despite saying it does) when you use 4x 2gb sticks. I want to replace this board with a P35 platinum but first I want to make sure my geil 8gb kit (4x 2gb DDR2 6400 sticks) will work (I'll be runnnig windows xp x64).
Also I have an XFX Geforce 8800 Ultra which has quite a big cooler, I read in some reviews of the board that the southbridge heatsink is too high for cards with big coolers like that to fit neatly. My question is will it still work? Can I screw the card in or do I have to live in fear of it plummetting out of the slot?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

I've tried 4 x 2GB OCZ DDR2 memory sticks. P35 Platinum detects 8GB main memory but shows usage memory as only 4GB out of 8GB. I've emailed MSI helpline if they can help out.

I have my sound running from my source (from small jack socket) to phono, plugged into the aux-in phono input on the front I/O dri've bay.
    However I get no sound.
When source plugged in on Jack-to-Jack through the MIC input (using small to large jack converter), I get sound
When source plugged in on Jack-to-Phone (Aux in) I get no sound.
Is my I/O bay screwed? Or have I missed a setting somewhere like "recording input selection"? Or is there a jumper/cable I've missed..
... cant figure it out.... tested on Vista and XP, same thing so must be something else.

i have just noticed this issue, my god can creative no do anything right, i just hope i have not had this card 60 days, as i am returning it, cannot be bothred anymore, lag with dolby digital last time on audigy2 zs plat, i had to buy the ddts00 last time to fix that, what should i buy this time a forking sledge hammer.
I wish creative would actually test their hardware before releasing it, what a bunch of idiots, and customer service is terrible, they send you second hand goods for the new ones you return to them, thats if your lucky, as last time they sent me a 6 channel audigy 2 card as a replacement for a black audigy2 zs platinum card and li've dri've, they cannot even tell the difference between black and white as audigy 2 li've dri've is WHITE.
I am never buying another piece of creative hardware as its obvious that they have serious issues with understanding things, let alone the mistakes they have made recently with their hardware, cannot even get a simple 2 channel stereo input to work, i woudl suggest you return the card for a refund if you can and use your older hardware, its probs better anyways.

  • Aux-in lag in entertainment mode (x-

Why does Entertainment mode lag the aux-in?
I have the sound output from my tv cable box plugged directly (jack to jack) into the aux-in on my x-fi but the lag is ridiculous, its unusable.
If I play the sound on the TV at the same time as the xfi output its so bad that it echos. If I turn the TV down and just listen from the x-fi, the drift in lip synch is so obvious that it makes me annoyed that Ive actually spend good money on this card, what gives?
Ive upgraded from a 4 year old SBLi've! that worked perfectly on all inputs, I expected it to be better, not worse. Dont get me wrong, theres some great advances on the x-fi but why the massi've delay on the main entertainment channel?
But... if I switch to Gaming mode theres no lag!! It works like my old Li've but then I lose the rich sound of entertainment mode.
In Creation mode theres no lag UNLESS SVM IS SWITCHED ON (which is a pain in the rear as SVM is great for levelling out loud adverts vs the quieter programs) so I've made a custom tab for the TV with no effects, just if I want the main TV sound as center fill I have to turn off SVM.
What a mess - I didnt expect all this from a class of 2005 card, I really looked forward to SVM as well as having a new audio card. I doubt whether theres anything I can do about this lag is there?

  • Cambridge Megaworks THX 5.1 550

    Hey All,
Ok this has changed alot since i was last here.
Basically i got speakers 3 years ago from Creative. The volume control continually died and i was messed around for an entire year
    BEFORE
I got my new speakers to say sorry for the fuss which was a set of the above speakers
Now im in third year at University and i have a major digital project to work on.
And for some bizarre reason, this morning i turned on my PC like usual and my speakers are completely distorted.
Im sorry yeah, but these speakers are meant to be good. When i got them "I want something thats just going to last with 5.1 sound until after my final year when i can actually afford to replace the crap Augidy card (with the drivers that dont work) and the creative speakers for a better make such as ASDA - Smart Price.
There is no way any representative from Creative can reply to this and tell me that every piece of hardware i have had from creative has either been dead on delivery or breaks within 9 months has been my fault.
I wouldnt even mind but its not like i rag my system at full blast.
The drivers are not the problem. I have just spent all morning using the official drivers, modifying the Audigy 2 drivers, used the KXAudio driver and tried another 2 random drivers.
I have on board Nvidia sound, i tried using that instead of my soundcard.
    Distorted.
I removed the speakers from my PC and attached a Aux from my TV to my speakers.
    Distorted.
So basically the speakers are dead yet again. Yet again. Do creative products really have a life span of 9 months?
I cannot afford to wait around like i did last time where it took 2 months and 2 failed modules just so i could get my work done.
I really need this fixed as soon as possible. I have done nothing to abuse these speakers and if anything i have made sure no one abuses them on full blast and still it dies.
This is obviously awkward due to the fact my original system invoice has a different set of speakers. Although i did end up working my way to the top of the creative support team. Something im not prepared to waste time, money and effort on again.
I need someone to start helping me with a replacement system as soon as possible. I have no hesitation to be a **bleep** like last time either if i feel im being mugged off which i hate to say, seems to be creatives set of values. Build pish hardware with no working software and then send the customer around in circles with promised phone calls, ignored emails and generally just ignoring the user after a product is purchased.
All i need is to pass my degree and then me and creative can go our seperate ways. Again this is an on going problem so starting at the bottom of the technical support chain is of no interest to me. I refuse to pay 50 quid to send back faulty speakers, fair enough if i had anything to do with the death of them but i didnt. As far as im concered sending me speakers to have yet more headaches over is something that i wont tolerate.
    Any help would be grand.
    Cheers.
    Clark.

Also, one of the wires has packed up and I cant find any on creative's website... It is speaker to sub lead, plugs into sub with a Jack and splits into 2 different wires (black and red) to make 2 separate connections to the back of the speaker. Anyone know where they are sold (dont really fancy getting my wallet raped by PC World)?
    Cheers

Okey that is the last object to be place.. when the last object is placed there, text will changed and a different sound effect will be heard.
Once that is done, i press my back button to go to the game selection scene but the last object stays.
    i tried reset button using

    dd4._x = 918

Hmm i have 4 games with the same codes, the names of object were the same at the beginning using pp1 til pp5 or pp10 but i changed everyone of them to pp dd qq gg so having directory problem isn't the case. Guess I will give that a go before pulling the board and replacing it with a spare k9a2 platinum board.

    Forum Tool, can't help with BIOS recovery.{It can be used it to flash the BIOS,but not for recovery}
If BIOS recovery doesn't works sent the mainboard back for repair.

  • Neo2 stops on CPU initialization

Awhile ago I built a mostly new computer, got everything running great, and then shipped it to college, like I've done in years past with no problems. This year, UPS picked the box with my computer in it to kick across the country instead of ship. They destroyed a few parts, most of which were 4 years old, the only one that matters being my A8V. This gave me the chance to replace it with a K8N Neo2 Platinum. So last week I set it all up and everything ran great for a few days.
Last Saturday I turned it on in the morning and it wouldn't post anything, or beep. The LEDs I got were red, green, green, red, for processor initialization. I did everything I could think of, stripped it down, reseated CPU, ran mobo out of case, reset BIOS, nothing worked. I gave up for the day and put it all back together. A few hours later, I tried turning it on again, and everything worked fine! I didn't understand what happened, it just started working again. But the same damn thing happened this morning when I turned it on. If I take out the RAM, then I get one long beep over and over and red, green, red, red, as expected. So I thought maybe the RAM died. I took the RAM and vid card to a friends A64 (unfortunately it's 754 so I can't test the CPU), and both worked fine. So now I'm thinking the CPU is dead. But I just don't understand how it worked fine, then died, then worked fine, and now it's dead again?! Also, until I hear from UPS whether or not they're going to pay for everything, I can't just go buy another 3800+ and try it.
    Here are the specs:
    350W PSU
    Athlon 64 3800+
    K8N Neo2 Platinum
    2x512 Corsair XMS-3200 CL2
    Geforce4 Ti4600
    160gig SATA 7200rpm Seagate
    nu-tech DVD-RW
I'm wondering what some of you think, could it be the CPU, or the new mobo? Any other suggestions?

    An update:
After RMAing the board a couple weeks ago everything has been working great. I think you guys need to stop pointing at the power supply for every problem. Yeah, sometimes it's the problem, but it seems like every time somebody says they have a problem somebody responds with "it's your power supply". My power supply is only 350 watts with 15 amps on the 12v rail and it works fine. I'm going to get a 6800GT soon, I have a feeling the power supply won't be enough then. But just for the record, here's the specs again for my system, perfectly stable, with my weak power supply:
    Athlon 64 3800+
K8N Neo2 with whatever BIOS it came with
    1GB Corsair TWINX-3200 CL2
    VistionTek Geforce4 Ti 4600
    200GB Seagate 7200rpm SATA
    160GB Seagate 7200rpm SATA
    Nu-Tech DVD+RW

  • K8N Neo FSR - IDE Trouble (I think)

    Hi.
I got two identical systems I try to setup, and it has been nothing but trouble for the last 2 days. All following descriptions goes for *both* systems.
Installing XP Pro with SP2, fresh. Getting read errors from CD's, then write errors on HD. Blue Screens and instant re-booting.
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT 0x0000004E is the first to occure
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL 0x0000000A is the next.
2 brand new intallation disks used.
Installing W2k, ...see above, same happens.
Tried with both hitting F6 and installing the provided drivers on floppy, and using Windows default drivers. Same result.
Tried disabling all SATA/prefetch/NIC/USB/whatever in BIOS, same result.
Tried Crucial / Corsair / TwinMos / No-branded RAM, same result.
    Tried ThermalTake 480W, Q-Tec 450W and Chieftec 420W
Tried with shipped BIOS 1.1 and 1.40
HD strapped as CS or Master, CD strapped as CS or master...tried all 4 combos, but install somehow 'made it' with both set to CS on separate channels.
Ok. Now the OS is on the box:
    W2k - Login - BSOD - Reboot
XP Pro SP2 - Looks fine, just do NOT touch the disks:
    Defrag - Reboot
    Install e.g. Office - Reboot
    Norton AV-scan - Reboot
Memtest 12 hours - No problem
Anyone got any idea of what is going on here???

    Hi.
Yes I've tried, but all but CS is making things worse.
I just rippet out the MOBO from one of them an hour ago, and replaced it with a K8N Neo Platinum, using the drive as it was. Same jumpers - same OS. And guess what: XP found a bunch of new hardware, and the machine has just completed its first virusscan. No problems at all.
Guess this just confirms that there is an issue with the Neo FSR. I've setup a bunch of the Platinums before, but this was my first (and very last) two FSR's

  • Problem replacing K8n Neo4 Platinum

Hello everybody, this is my first post here, I am a new member from Italy.
    I have this problem:
I own a K8n Neo4 Platinum and when I changed the VGA from Nvidia 6600 GT to 8600 GTS the Mobo doesn't post anymore.. The usb diagnostig bracket says it's a memory problem but when I've put my memory banks on a different PC, they work just fine.
I think the problem was caused by the little space that I had between the VGA and the chipset cooler (Zalman passive);when I installed the VGA I damaged the chipset. Taking a closer look at it I noticed that 1 edge is damaged. I also substituted the Power suplly but the result is always the same.
So I decided to replace the mobo but I don't want to reinstall windows. Finding my same mobo is impossible here in Europe. I only found the K8n Neo4-F.
My question is the following :
-Does this Mobo use the same drivers that were installed on my HD? (latest driver downloaded  from Nvidia version 6.86)
-Will I have problems with Windows ?
