[Resolved] DAEMONS not starting
No daemons are starting even though my rc.conf is configured correctly. I am also in runlevel 3.
Anybody know what the problem is?

Grid on a standalone server Cluster daemons not starting during server boot
Hi!I have installed Oracle Grid on a standalone server and setup Oracle db 11.2.0.2 on Oracle Linux 6.2 64 bit server.When I reoot the server and run crs_stat -t,several daemons havent started thus the ASM and db instances are also down as below
Name Type Target State Host
ora.DATA.dg ora....up.type OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora.FRADG.dg ora....up.type OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora....ER.lsnr ora....er.type ONLINE ONLINE amldb01dc
ora.amldb.db ora....se.type OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora.asm ora.asm.type OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora.cssd ora.cssd.type ONLINE OFFLINE
ora.diskmon ora....on.type ONLINE OFFLINE
ora.evmd ora.evm.type ONLINE ONLINE amldb01dc
ora.ons ora.ons.type OFFLINE OFFLINE
I am forced to manually start the daemons via command crsctl start resource -all then I manually start the ASM and db instances.
Yet when I run the commands
crsctl config has
CRS-4622: Oracle High Availability Services autostart is enabled.
crsctl check has
CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online.
Thus I would assume the daemons would start automatically during boot.
How can I resolve this?crstcl check crs seems not to be applicable to single instance but for RAC,since I have a single instance db,the output of the command is as below
crsctl check crs
Parse error:
'crs' is an invalid argument
Brief usage:
crsctl check has
Check status of OHAS.
There is no crsd.log in path /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/log/amldb01dc/crsd.The output of crs_stat -t is already posted in initial post and output of entire alert log is as below

Hi,
Not so much of a problem but, bluetooth daemon does not start on boot up.... sure I have it in daemons [no @!] but when you run hcitool scan you get no device found..
Is there a better place to start /etc/rc.d/bluetooth? ir rc.local maybe ?
thanks
MrGwe havent resolved the issues we have with RDA.
First when we opened a msg with SAP they asked to apply these notes:
1048864 - RDA daemon does not close empty requests
1042790 - P14: Real-time: QM action for real-time PSA request

And I would personally like to be able to close the request in 30mins and not 1hr default it has. I tried playing around with the FM's - no luck. -
a) Created DTP for RDA..
b) Created infopackage by clicking RDA and assigned ..
c) Created Daemon
d) asssigned Damon to the package and atttached DTP..
e) when said Start all infopackages from the Daemon.... it is not starting and the request is going to Red.
Inititally it was green after some time., it has become red and now it is inactive. Can anyone tell me the reason.. I deleted everything and tried to created once again DTP and infopackage and Daemon.. but no use...
Eagerly waiting for replywe havent resolved the issues we have with RDA.
First when we opened a msg with SAP they asked to apply these notes:
1048864 - RDA daemon does not close empty requests
1042790 - P14: Real-time: QM action for real-time PSA request

POP3 and IMAP daemons not starting?
Ahoy, my mail server's been running fine for months now, but this morning it wasn't working.
On closer inspection, Server Admin says that POP and IMAP are disabled. In the settings they are definatly enabled.
I tried restarting the server, and I also updated to 10.4.8, but still nothing.
Does anyone know how I can get an error log or something that might tell me why they're not starting?
thanks!Fixed it.
Apologies for the false alarm. I looked at the logs and config and thought 'This looks messy. I need to look cool in front of these guys, I should clear this up.'
So I restored the default main.cf file and reconfigured my mail server from scratch, and now it's working...
Thanks anyway! -
Launchd daemon not starting correctly on launch
Hi All,
I have a script that I like to have run anytime my wireless network changes. The script needs to be run under sudo, so I created a daemon inside of /Library/LaunchDaemons .
My plist file looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Disabled</key>
<false/>
<key>Label</key>
<string>my.plist.name</string>
<key>ProgramArguments</key>
<array>
<string>/path/to/script/to/run.sh</string>
</array>
<key>WatchPaths</key>
<array>
<string>/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.pr eferences.plist</string>
</array>
</dict>
</plist>
So here's where the oddness starts happening. When I start up my computer, launchctl tells me that this daemon is loaded. (I run sudo launchctl list and it's there). However, the script does not run when it should.
However, if I manually unload and then load the plist using the launchctl command then everything works completely fine.
So the question is, why does it work when I load it manually, but not work when the system loads it on startup?
Thanks,
QNo suspicious message in the console. When I sudo launchctl list it shows up with a 0 in the second field.
The only thing I can find in doing some google-ing is this:
https://managingosx.wordpress.com/2006/05/10/launchd-gotcha/
Which seems to imply that a launch daemon that is watching a file will fail to work if that file doesn't exist at all times. However, I would think that /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist should always exist. So I'm still perplexed.
Right now I have a seomwhat convoluted system set up as the following:
My launch daemon (that needs to run as root) is set to watch a folder ~/random/
Then I have a launch agent which successfully watches for changes in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist and when it sees them touches a file in ~/random/.
The launch daemon then deletes that file and successfully runs the script I want it to run.
It seems weird/odd/annoying to have to set up a this double-headed process just to do something simple like this, so I'm open to suggestions as to what is going on. -
I have pppoe connection, in the past worked very well, I 've recently replaced an antique motherboard 10 years old with a 775 socket Asrock, chipset G41 that has Realtek 8102E/8103E on-board lan and I have since then always had to manually do sudo /etc/rc.d/adsl start
That's when I have adsl backgrounded in rc.conf. I mention that pppoe is configured correctly like always did for some years now. It's a real pain starting system and when someone in the family wants to surf the web I have to come and put a daemon to work.
Can anybody help me?

Xscreensaver daemon not starting on startup w/KDE
hope this is the place to post this!
I have tried putting xscreensaver in my daemon list in rc.conf.
I have put xscreensaver -no-splash & in my ~/.xinitrc before wm starts.
but, I have to manually start the daemon. So, obviously I'm doing something wrong. Could someone point out how to have the daemon start automatically?
I'm currently using kde 3.5.5 - all packages are current.
Also, I do not have screensavers enabled in KDE.
Thanks,

NetworkManager daemon not starting since systemd 208-2 upgrade
Hi, Since i updated my system to systemd 208-2 NetworkManager fails to start at boot.
I haver this behaviour both with the LTS kernel and the 3.7.9.2 kernel.
I use only a wifi card, Atheros Ar9271. However even when the card is not connected Network Manager fails to start.
I have downgraded to 208-1 as a workaround for the moment.
has anyone similar behaviour?
Should i repor a bug ??

Last edited by hydrosIII (2013-10-28 07:09:03)Hmm, I still seem to have this issue. For me, it's random. Most of the time I start my computer and I have no internet. At boot it tries to start internet on eth0 all the time.
Every boot I run "ifconfig" to see if I got internet or not. Most often I do not have any, and running "dhcpcd eth0" will not do anything, at this time I am required to run "dhcpcd eth1".
Rarely, I boot my computer, run "ifconfig", and see that I got a local IP address. But that happens rarely. I am using 208-3. -
Problem exists on my HP C0mpaq 6720s , Vista operating system.
System restore, restored to version 3.6.3 instead of 3.6.10 . This did not start either. Previously, I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove all Mozilla items, checked regedit and removed all Mozilla folders, then reinstalled 3.6.11 from your website. Mozilla would not start and XUL error stated 1.9.2.10 followed by min 1.9.2.11 and max 1.9.2.11 . This was the same error report that appeared after the automatic update.
So I am at a loss and without Mozilla .I have successfully resolved this issue on my PC by allowing updater.exe through the firewall. This updater.exe is located in the folder where your Mozilla Firefox was installed. The default folder is "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updater.exe"

Tor daemon will not start up on boot...
Here's the appropriate line from rc.conf, but it will not start unless I enter it manually from the command line. I'm not even sure where else to look or debug, as I've never had any troubles with daemons before this.
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng cpufreq dhcdbd networkmanager tor polipo crond bluetooth cups hal fam alsa)
And as a related but less important question, does anyone know where tor logs are located by default? I tried setting up a relay but could not verify that it worked because I don't know where the logs are kept.
Last edited by fflarex (2008-03-03 03:42:23)I'm afraid I don't really know what you mean. Care to give an example?
Anyways, I've found an error when I simply run 'tor' which could be the reason it does not start automatically. This error does not appear when I run 'sudo /etc/rc.d/tor start' (unless it is redirected to the log files instead, which I still haven't found). The error is:
Mar 06 13:17:58.439 [warn] Error setting to configured GID: Operation not permitted
Mar 06 13:17:58.439 [warn] Failed to parse/validate config: Problem with User or Group value. See logs for details.
As far as I can tell, nothing should be wrong at all with the groups and it is all set according to the tor documentation. This is really starting to bother me... -
CiscoWorksLMS 4.0 - Service Ciscoworks Daemon Manager does not start
Dear,
After migrating a virtual machine that hosts the CiscoworksLms 4.0, Daemon Manager service does not start.
From what we see this error seems to be a problem in the license.
Following is the error:
ERROR! The license file is invalid. Please click this link for information about Obtaining a valid license or purchase click here for current licensing information Otherwise, please contact your Cisco representative for purchasing information.
I have already entered in the User casuse group of administrators and reset the password but no use Daemon Manager service not up
Thanks for help!Hi,
From the attached screen shots, I can see the startup type are Incorrect for Many services ,kindly correct their status...
please see below the correct startup type
configuration for LMS Services. As you notice you see that only the
"CiscoWorks Daemon Manager" (except the RSH/Syslog/TFTP services) is set to
start automatically, the Daemon Manager is responsible for starting all the
other CiscoWorks LMS services in a specific order.
So by having the below configuration, LMS will start correctly by itself
after Windows successfully reboots. In fact having any other start up
configuration will cause LMS to not start, because if one of the LMS
services starts before it dependent services, it will not come up and all
subsequent services will fail to start as well.

powerbook g4 - does not start up...it shows kernel panic screen...how do i fix/resolve this problem?
In the overwhelming majority of cases, kernel panic indicates a severe hardware problem. Braby and Allan pointed to useful things. If you can boot from CD / DVD and reinstall without any kernel panic, then may be a software problem, but this is less probable. You must check, anyway.
If you have a 2nd mac around and a firewire cable, you may try to restart the ill mac in target mode and connect it to a healthy mac to see whether it may be used in target mode. -
