Restoring items after HotSync

Question

I have a Palm Centro (Verizon) and have been competently HotSyncing it on my home computer for a couple of years now.  Today I tried to HotSync it with my work computer and ran into some major issues.
To make a very long story short, I ended up having to upload new Palm software to my Centro, and then when it reset my system, all of the calendar items that were in the Palm were lost, and only the ones from my Outlook calendar on my desktop were loaded.  There is absolutely nothing in my Contacts anymore.
I can take my palm home and restore on my laptop at home and get most of the information back again, but I would like to try restoring from a back up on this system, if at all possible.  None of the previous threads that I read allowed me to figure out how I might do that (I don't see any files with a .bak extension).
Can someone please help me?

When you sync with Outlook there are no .bak or .dat files to work with to recover the data.
