Returning Mutliple Records using a function

I followed the instructions as per askTom at http://asktom.oracle.com/~tkyte/ResultSets/index.html
Created the package and created a fuction and it works if I do something like
select find_dba_licenses('ALBERTSON') from dual;
Now, the problem is that I want to use the function in the where clause and it's giving me an error.
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected - got CURSER
Does anyone knows what it means?
If I try casting like below I get the same error
select license_id from t_license where license_id = (select cast(oda.find_dba_licenses('ALBERTSON') as number) from dual);
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got CURSER
Thanks
anyhelp will be appreciated.

I thought that using a function will be the easyest Wrong. The easiest is definitely a sub-query:
SELECT * FROM licences
WHERE licence_id IN
    (  SELECT licence_id FROM table_1
       WHERE trading_name = 'ALBERTSON'
       UNION ALL
       SELECT licence_id FROM table_2
       WHERE business_name = 'ALBERTSON')The above is a template, which you will need to tweak to fit your needs.
If you really want to do that in a function you could consider using a PIPELINED function that returns an array of licence IDs and use a TABLE() function on that. But I wouldn't recommend it unless you have additional processing which cannot be done in a SELECT statement.
What does it mean "between program units"?Between two discrete program, er , units. The canonical example is a database accessor for a web application. A Java bean (or whatever) passes parameters to a stored procedure (function) which executes a query and returns a resultset in the form of a ref cursor. Of course the program units can be two PL/SQL procedures but I think that is less common.

  • How to return whole number using round function

    hi
    can i get sql query using round function how to return whole number value

    Hi welcome to the forum. if you want whole number value what does it mean
    1. whether you want the whole number greator than or eqaul to that number example for 12.6 you want 12 or 13
    see below example
    1.  SQL> select round(12.5) from dual;
    ROUND(12.5)
             13
    2.  SQL> select round(12.4) from dual;
    ROUND(12.4)
             12
    3.  SQL> select floor(12.5) from dual;
    FLOOR(12.5)
             12
    4. SQL> select floor(12.4) from dual;
    FLOOR(12.4)
             12
    floor will always give you a round value which is a integer or whole number less than or equal to but output of rond will differ if the value is greator than 12.5 it will give 13 but if it is less than 12.5 it will give 12, so depending on your requirement you can choose which function to use. similarly if you always want to get the whole number greator than the number you can use ceil as below
    SQL>  select ceil(12.3) from dual;
    CEIL(12.3)
            13
    SQL>  select ceil(12.8) from dual;
    CEIL(12.8)
            13

  • PipeLine Function Taking time to return Table record

    Hi,
    I want to use a function in join clause. so i go for pipelined function(using for loop to get record & 1 more loop to fetch in table type variable). i achieved what i required. but problem is it takes much time to fetch data. is there any other approach which returns table records without pipelined function.
    please suggest me a better approach as soon as possible.

  • How to create a partner and header record using CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN?

    Hi any one knows how to create a partner and header record using the function module CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN??
    I tried to  create a record, but i only managed to create a header record and the partner record is not reflected in the transaction.  Why is that so? is there any indicator that i need to include?
    Thanks..

    Hi Jen!
    I use this FM and it works perfectly.
    Use this to create a partner:

  • Using a function return in an "IN" statement

    All,
    I need to filter the records in a table based on the return value of a function. The function determines a person's group and then executes 2 separate select statements depending on the group.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE pkg_rolebased
    AS
    CURSOR all_dmn_cur
    IS
    SELECT dmn_id
    FROM tomwojeck.pa_domain ;
    CURSOR child_dmn_cur (role_id_in IN varchar)
    IS
    SELECT distinct r.dmn_id
    FROM tomwojeck.pa_domain_restriction_domain r
    WHERE r.dmn_restriction_id IN (
    SELECT DISTINCT a.dmn_restriction_id
    FROM tomwojeck.pa_role_wf_entity_fct_access a
    WHERE a.role_id = role_id_in
                        AND a.workflow_entity_fct_id= 'View Student.Student.View'
                        AND a.dmn_restriction_id IS NOT NULL);
    FUNCTION rolelookup (stud_email IN varchar)
    RETURN roletable;
    END;CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY pkg_rolebased
    IS
    FUNCTION rolelookup (stud_email IN varchar)
    RETURN roletable
    IS
    v_roleid varchar2(200);
    v_returnval varchar2(200);
    v_data roletable := roletable ();
    dmn_rec all_dmn_cur%ROWTYPE;
    BEGIN
    -- Find out the role of the person
    SELECT r.role_id
    INTO v_roleid
    FROM tomwojeck.pa_user_prfl p, tomwojeck.pa_user_prfl_role r
    WHERE p.user_name = r.user_name
    AND UPPER (p.email_addr) = UPPER (stud_email);
    IF UPPER (v_roleid) = 'ALL'
    THEN
    OPEN all_dmn_cur;
    LOOP
    FETCH all_dmn_cur
    INTO dmn_rec;
    v_data.EXTEND;
    v_data (v_data.COUNT) := dmn_rec.dmn_id;
    EXIT WHEN all_dmn_cur%NOTFOUND;
    END LOOP;
    CLOSE all_dmn_cur;
    ELSE
    OPEN child_dmn_cur (v_roleid);
    LOOP
    FETCH child_dmn_cur
    INTO dmn_rec;
    v_data.EXTEND;
    v_data (v_data.COUNT) := dmn_rec.dmn_id;
    EXIT WHEN child_dmn_cur%NOTFOUND;
    END LOOP;
    CLOSE child_dmn_cur;
    END IF;
    RETURN v_data;
    END rolelookup;
    END;
    The select statement to filter on this mess is:
    select
    lname,
    fname,
    dmn_id,
    stud_id
    from tomwojeck.pa_student p
    where p.DMN_ID in (select * from table(cast(tomwojeck.pkg_rolebased.rolelookup('[email protected]') as tomwojeck.RoleTable)))
    The problemm is this performs horribly! If I enter an email address that causes the first cursor to be used, it runs well, but if I use an email address that causes the second cursor to run, it takes forever.
    Is there a better way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Tom Wojeck

    Your query has to be tuned. The execution plan as well as the information on the indexes will certainly help.

  • Calling a function from SQL prompt that returns a record

    Hi,
    I've been trying to execute a function that is present on a different database. for eg. I am loged on to a database say 'A' and trying to execute a function present in database 'B'. this function is present in a package 'X' which has 2 functions and two procedures. From the packages i am able to execute the two procedures and one of the function.
    So i guess it is not a problem with the access permissions. The function that i am trying to call say function I has got 3 OUT
    parameters and 1 IN parameter. the Function returns a record. When i try to execute this function i get an error. Can you please let me know as to how exactly i need to call this function from the SQL prompt...
    thanx in advance
    null

    Hi Anand,
    As your function has 3 OUT parameters and it returns a record you can not just call it from SQL Plus. You need to write small PL/SQL program and use variables to hold the OUT values and the returned record.
    Good Luck,
    RajKiran

  • Use DISTINCT with two fields to return one record

    I am using OleDB with a SELECT DISTINCT query that is used in C# code to populate a DataGridViewComboBox.  The queried table has two fields: ID and Description. The ID field values are unique. Descriptions may be duplicated. The DataSource of my DataGridViewComboBox

    ID    Description
     1     Blue
     2     Blue
     3     Red
     4     Blue
    I want my query to return two records; one for the Red description and only one for the Blue description.  I don't care which Blue description it returns, but I do need the corresponding ID for the selected Blue record and the ID value for the Red record.
    Using SELECT DISTINCT ID, Description FROM... would give me four records instead of two.  How can I return only two records in this scenario?
    Rob E.

    Using window function:
    create table #temp
    ID int,
    description varchar(20),
    insert into #temp Values(1,'blue')
    insert into #temp Values(2,'blue')
    insert into #temp Values(3,'red')
    insert into #temp Values(4,'blue')
    ;WITH CTE AS (select RN=ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY description ORDER BY newid() ),
    ID,description from #temp)
    SELECT ID, description from CTE
    WHERE RN = 1;
    ID description
    4 blue
    3 red

  • How to return two XML result sets using the function

    Hi Experts,
    Thanks.

    So that I want to return two XML result sets if the query returns more than 50,000 records.
    One XML result set with 50,000 and another XML result set with remaining records.
    How to incorporate this in my function.
    Have the function return a collection of CLOB then.
    DBMS_XMLGEN can handle pagination so it's easy to adapt your existing code.
    Here's an example fetching data in batches of max. 3 rows each, using a pipelined function :
    SQL> create or replace type clob_array is table of clob;
      2  /
    Type created
    SQL>
    SQL> create or replace function genXmlRowset (p_deptno in number) return clob_array pipelined
      2  is
      3    ctx    dbms_xmlgen.ctxHandle;
      4    doc    clob;
      5  begin
      6
      7    ctx := dbms_xmlgen.newContext('SELECT empno, ename FROM scott.emp WHERE deptno = :1');
      8    dbms_xmlgen.setBindValue(ctx, '1', p_deptno);
      9    dbms_xmlgen.setMaxRows(ctx, 3);
    10
    11    loop
    12
    13      doc := dbms_xmlgen.getXML(ctx);
    14      exit when dbms_xmlgen.getNumRowsProcessed(ctx) = 0;
    15      pipe row (doc);
    16
    17    end loop;
    18
    19    dbms_xmlgen.closeContext(ctx);
    20
    21    return;
    22
    23  end;

  • Mac mail search function is not working. Any search term returns all records.

    Mac mail search function is not working. Any search term returns all records.

    hi eric. many thanks.
    i will have to read these links closer but what i meant to say is that the hard drive space that was being taken up seemed like it suddenly jumped way up because i had just gotten through a process in the last month where i am storing all my My Documents data on my Mac Pro. i am doing this in order to decide whether i should just keep it ALL on my Mac Pro and use ChronoSync to sync /some/ of it to my MBP.
    so if i look in the Documents folder on my Mac Pro i have a ton of folders that i have created with a ton of data. if i look in the Documents folder on my MBP there are NO folders that have data in them that i created. there are other folders such as folders that various software created but what i mean to point out is that there was a LOT of available space on my HD until recently.
    i am wondering if there is some way that running the Mail re-index (it then ran some kind of "Importing" routine) or by syncing my Photostream to the MBP caused a huge jump in data on this drive. if it is the photostream sync i can just take this off or see if it will sync more selectively. if it is something to do with mac mail jumping in size i am not sure why this would happen or what to do about it.
    does that question make sense?
    i mean, before i did these two operations my recollection is that i would have had 130 GB on the hard drive (really just guessing here) and now there is like 218 GB on the hard drive and i don't know where all this came from...

  • How to return multiples values useing functions

    Hi to all,
    I am using functions to return multiple values of two rows or multiple rows.
    For example emp id = 100 and i need to return the value for this(empid) input and output of this first_name and salary.
    I am tried in this way below but got errors (ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got HR.EMP_TYPE)
    create or replace type emp_type as object(first_name varchar2(20),salary number);
    create or replace function f1(empid in number)
    return emp_type
    as
    emp_record emp_type;
    begin
    select first_name,salary into emp_record.first_name,emp_record.salary from employees where employee_id = empid ;
    return emp_record;
    end;
    select f1(100) from dual;

    Sql is Sql and plsql is plsql. Though we can almost use all the sql objects inside a plsql code but vice versa is not always possible. Since plsql is tightly integrated with sql , if you return a number/date/varchar2 datatype values from plsql code to sql code,there is nothing wrong .Sql acknowledges this return type and knows well about how to handle it .But plsql record is a plsql specific datatype ,oracle was not built keeping in mind the fact that people will be creating difference types of records in plsql .So if you return a plsql datatype into a sql statement (which is processed by a sql engine) ,you need to tell oracle that I have written a plsql code which is going to return a record type so that sql engine can interpret it well.
    So all you need to do is create record in sql (known as object in sql ),when you make one, the entry is going to be shown in user_types views. Now use it like any other data type. I assume that the forum link provided in the above post is the best one to understand.
    Thanks,
    Rahul

  • Getting Excel to interpret the return string of a WEBSERVICE() function using a WCF REST service.

    I am using the WEBSERVICE() function in Excel and a WCF REST service is called through this function.
    The web service returns a string value of true or false when invoked.  E.g. <string xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Serialization/">True</string>
    This has been confirmed through debugging and it seems to be working fine when invoked through a client application or browser.
    However, the result shown in the cell in the Excel sheet is #VALUE!. This particular cell has a custom format (set using the Format Cells ... option) that displays "Yes" or "No". (The
    custom format is "Yes" ; "Yes" ; "No".)  Is this the correct way of interpreting the results of a Web Service method called in Excel? Does a #VALUE! result actually imply a formatting issue or some other interpretation
    error? Is there anything missing? Can somebody suggest ideas?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Keith

    Hi Keith,
    Have you used the formula FILTERXML(xml, xpath) function to extract single pieces of data from the XML string?
    If not, please follow the blog below, the author will guide you to get data from Webservice.

  • How to get all records using Invoke-webrequest?/Why Invoke-webrequest returns only first 2000 Records?

    invoke-webrequest content returning only 2000 records though it has around 4000 records in web api.
    The same url if I give in excel oData Data feed I am getting all the records.
    See the below script
    Script:
    $QueryResult= (Invoke-WebRequest -Uri $ODataURI -UseDefaultCredentials)
    [xml]$xmlResult=$QueryResult.content
    foreach($obj in $xmlResult.feed.entry.content.properties)
    $Name=$obj.Name;
    $IsAvail=$obj.isAvail.'#text';
    $PGroup=$obj.PGroup
    I am exporting the above result as a CSV file and my CSV file contains only 2000 records.
    But,  $xmlResult.feed.Count --> it Shows 4000 Records.
    The same Odata url if I give in excel oData Data feed I am getting all the 4000 records.
    So Please help me how can I get all the records using power shell.

    Hi Jo Swa(K.P.Elayaraja)-MCP,
    Would you please also post code which is used to export the records?
    In addition, to use the cmdlet invoke-RestMethod to work on ODate feeds, please refer to this article:

  • Stored procedure returning multiple records without using SYS_REFCURSOR

    Hello,
    I am new to oracle stored procedures, have done stored procs in SQL server in past. I am trying to write single stored proc which will return multiple records. I have the stored proc as below and that is compiled without any errors.
    We don't want to use SYS_REFCURSOR as output param b'coz the place from which this proc is gonna call, that system doesn't support SYS_REFCURSOR param.
    create or replace
    PROCEDURE p_get5500DATA_MB (
    IN_plan_ID IN T_5500DATA_QWP.Plan_ID%TYPE,
    IN_plan_ID_col OUT T_5500DATA_QWP.Plan_ID%TYPE,
    p_SEQNUM OUT T_5500DATA_QWP.SEQNUM%TYPE,
    p_HEADER_CD OUT T_5500DATA_QWP.HEADER_CD%TYPE,
    p_VALUE1 OUT T_5500DATA_QWP.VALUE1%TYPE,
    p_VALUE2 OUT T_5500DATA_QWP.VALUE2%TYPE
    ) AS
    BEGIN
    SELECT
    Plan_ID,
    SEQNUM,
    HEADER_CD,
    VALUE1,
    VALUE2
    INTO
    IN_plan_ID_col,
    p_SEQNUM,
    p_HEADER_CD,
    p_VALUE1,
    p_VALUE2
    FROM TRS1DBO.T_5500DATA_QWP
    WHERE Plan_ID = IN_plan_ID
    ORDER BY SeqNum;
    -- EXCEPTION
    -- WHEN OTHERS THEN
    -- RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-210001, 'Error in fetching data from T_5500DATA_QWP....');
    END;
    Error:
    ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows
    ORA-06512: at "TRS1DBO.P_GET5500DATA_MB", line 10
    ORA-06512: at line 11
    My questions is:
    - What would be the best practice for this type of simple stored procedures?
    - Is there any alternate or is there anything i can fix in above stored proc which return multiple records?
    Thank you,
    Vimal

    Just out of curiosity, what are you using for API or driver that doesn't support a ref cursor? Ref cursors are pretty much the defacto standard for passing multiple records out of an Oracle procedure. Oracle's ODP.NET, OLEDB, ODBC, JDBC, OCI, all support ref cursors. Chances are that if the driver you're using doesn't support something as basic/fundamental as a ref cursor, it's probably also not going to support something else either.
    You'll most likely want to check with the driver/api vendor on their recommended approach.
