Rxvt as part of desktop, forcing it to stay maximised

This isnt so much a major problem rather a niggle, I'm running openbox and have rxvt terminal as part of my desktop.
Whenever I use the shortcut to show my desktop it minimises the rxvt window too. As I have it set up not to appear in my tint2 panel the only way for me to maximise it again is to use the show desktop shortcut again.
Is there a way I can force rxvt to stay maximised?
Thanks in advance

There are ways to exclude windows from the show desktop, by having them listed as dock apps or something.  But for an alternate, you could add a conditional action to the rc.xml after the show desktop action.  Something like the following (untested):
<keybind key="W-d">
<action name="ToggleShowDesktop"/>
<action name="If">
<title>rxvt</title> <!-- this line may need work -->
<then>
<action name="Maximize"/> <!-- this line may also need work -->
</then>
</action>
</keybind>

  • Any way to force audio to stay on HDMI?

    Any way to force audio to stay on HDMI and not go back to Internal Speakers once the a/v receiver is off?
    To explain what is happening in more detail I have a mac mini hooked up to my TV and my computer monitor using an HDMI Distribution Amplifier. This way I can use the mac on my tv or at my desk. For some reason when the TV is shut off or if I switch the source of my desktop monitor to something else. The mac will go back to internal speakers. Is there any way to prevent this? I am assuming this is happening becuase the mac is losing the handshake with the monitor when I switch my source. If that is the case is there anything I can get to put before my DA that will make my mac think that something is always there?
    It would be more ideal if I can just permanently set the audio output to hdmi from within the mac itself though.

    The only really effective solution requires buying a Gefen HDMI Detective Plus this 'spoofs' the HDMI signal so the Mac thinks it is still there even if the AV receiver is turned off, or disconnected, or switched away from the Mac.

  • (Layering Issues) Transparent Terminal, Part of desktop.

    I'm aware there is a wiki post about this, and I will get to that.
    I've been trying to run a terminal as part of my desktop, and I've run into a bit of annoyance. So far I have tried:
    Gnome-Terminal + Devilspie (From the wiki, did not work)
      This failed to auto start correctly, and failed to strip the window of it's borders.
    Tilda
      Has a control fight with the desktop and inactive windows, this is the annoyance. For example, if I have a window placed inactive on the desktop, Tilda's window will override it, and I will not be able to 'grab' the window.
    What I am looking for:
      A terminal as part of my desktop running on the same 'layer' as the desktop, and the ability to be able to use the desktop on the terminal's window space. I realize this would negate any right click options the terminal itself may have, but I am fine with this.
    The desktop enviornment I am using is cinnamon-git from the AUR. CInnamon is heavily based off of Gnome 3, so any Gnome 3 applicable ideas may work.
    If there have been any previous posts about this topic, I apologize and will be happily redirected to said post.
    Thanks,

    It's certainly possible to write a program to do this - but I'm skeptical that it has been done.  If it has it would be implemented in a different desktop manager, not a different terminal, so that's where you should be looking.  I dont know if your DE would play nicely with an alternate desktop manager though.
    The desktop manger would have to create a transparent desktop window, manage icons and do everything you want the desktop to do, AND generate XSendEvent events to pass anything else on to the terminal.

  • Gutting a iMac G4 and using Parts in Desktop G3

    I am currently working on a iMac G4 with a bad Logic board(Motherboard), so I am currently gutting it to upgrade a Desktop G3. I've already added the Hard disk and the Ram, I tried switching the dvd-r(the G3 only has a dvd/cd-rw), but the G3 will not recognize the drive, I am assuming the drive is bad as well, but I didn't know if there was something i need to do to the G3 to make it work?
    Also wanted to know if it was possible to switch the processors? the G3 is only a 400 Mhz and the iMac G4 is a 800Mhz. I rarely work with apples so i'm not sure if the sockets are the same, and not even sure if they are compatible.
    I also realize that this next question is a not really possible, but I have to ask just to make sure. Is there any way to take the LCD screen of the iMac and use it as a second monitor. I realize i would propable need the logic board to do this but want to know if anyone knows of any mods.
    Is there anything else that I would be able to gut out of the iMac and use for the G4?
    Thanks Sparks_Lit

    Personally I would get a new board for the G4 than scrap it. If no 3rd party source for a board is found then OK scrap it. Back to G3 box.
    1. Check the jumper. There are 3 states; master, slave, cable select. Compare to drive you took out. If it is different change it. If it is the same? Don't know new to me.
    2. My 15" flat panel is driven by gforce2 MX. Since I don't have your G3 I'll do a thought experiment.
    Put a gforce card in a jig for easy soldering.
    HALT - experiment over because it requires blowing the next 4 hrs studying and google'ing.
    good luck on display and I'll check-in on drive part of this.

    How do I photograph &/or save part of a desktop image?

    command + shift + 4
    Move the cursor to one corner of the area you want to capture, hold the mouse button down, outline a rectangle. That rectangle is captured.
    The screen shot will end up on your desktop.

  • [Desktop] Forced offers (Advertisements) are not appropriate nor acceptable for paid Spotify users.

    As a paid Spotify subscriber, I reject as obviously and wholely inappropriate any advertising on your service that does not come with an appropriate level of compensation.  You need to do one of the following:1. Remove them completely2. Make some easy facility to have them permanently hidden.3. Compensate the user for forcing them to view your advertisements, in the form of free service.  There is no appropriate scenario where the paid spotify user is forced or coerced to view your advertisements without prior consent and appropriate compensation.

  • Can't directly move files from Macintosh HD to Desktop, forced to copy all.

    Hi there,
    I'm attempting to copy 100+ files in multiple folders from a folder on the root of my hard drive to my desktop where the previously were. Unfortunately, Mac OS X is automatically copying the files as if i did a copy paste. The files in total are about 80 gigs, so i really cant copy and delete without killing my hard drive. I reinstalled Mac OS X, repaired the disk, repaired permissions, still the same outcome. I believe its a problem with my permissions on the files, or the hard drive. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks

    I'm fairly sure it is a problem with permissions. Select the folder and Get Info (cmd-I). Check the file permissions at the bottom. If you are not the owner, I would suggest using a program called BatChmod to change yourself to the owner of that folder and all others inside.
    You can do it from the Finder's Get Info, but if there are any ACLs on the folder, the Finder will propagate them to all the files inside the folder. Sometimes, that is not good. But, I would imagine you are safe.
    To use BatChmod, drag the folder to the BatChmod window. Set yourself as the owner and give yourself read/write permissions. Check the box to apply the changes to enclosed items.
    Once that is done, you should be ok. Next time, it would be better to put the folder in the Shared folder under /Users. How the permissions got set the way they are I don't know. It depends on where the folder came from.

  • Can Apple Remote Desktop force a client to netboot?

    Is there a way that ARD can make the machines boot directly to netbooting, without having to visit each machine and holding down the "N"?

    Yes, in the Manage menu there is an option to set the startup disk. If you are on the same lan, you can just highlight the correct netboot session. Or you can give it the netboot server address.

  • On a large monitor, the bookmarks toolbar is opening outside of the Firefox window itself - is there any way to force it to stay inside?

    Recently I installed Windows 7 on my computer, along with a device called a Triplehead2Go, which spoofs the operating system into thinking that the computer has one monitor attached (when it really has three). When the Firefox window is relatively small on the desktop and with excess space to the right, the bookmarks toolbar opens to the right (and extends outside of the window). This creates a problem for me, as the monitor bezels get in the way of navigation. When the Firefox window is all the way to the right of the desktop, the bookmarks toolbar opens inside of the window (as there is not enough space to the right for it).
    Is there any way to force this menu to stay within its boundaries?

    The screen dimensions are "right," but I don't want it to use up any more space on-screen than is in the window.

    Please make sure your PC does have the daylight savings update installed on your PC, ususally windows updates or macintosh updates takes care of this.  Also for your device, please go to www.palm.com/dstpalm to see if you need the DST updater for your PDA.  Seems like the symptoms your describing is fitting the bill.

  • In Sys Prefs Desktop, folders won't stay in sidebar

    In the Desktop & Screen Saver pane of System Preferences, any folder I've added to the list at left by clicking the 'plus' button [+] fails to appear when I close Sys Prefs and open it again, unless that folder's name is selected when I close Sys Prefs. Additional added folders will not remain.
    This problem is affecting one user account only. The others are fine.
    I can add other folders, but they don't persist after I close System Preferences. By clicking the 'minus' button [-], I can remove the folder I've added and it remains properly removed. Since I can add only one folder, I can't really alter the list in any useful way and so the plus and minus buttons become almost pointless; there may as well be just a simple Open dialog for choosing the one non-Apple folder of images I'd like to use (except that, as I said, the pane does behave as expected in other user accounts).
    The screenshot above shows the Desktop pane's folder list right after I've added two folders, 'fluff images, misc.' and 'night earth'. Since 'night earth' is selected, that folder will remain in the list after I close Sys Prefs, but the other folder will not:
    So for now I have no way within the Desktop pane of Sys Prefs to maintain a list of several favorite folders of desktop images. Not terribly important, but that I can't fix it bothers me.
    Things I've tried:
    repair permissions (several times)
    delete:
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    reset PRAM

    This annoyance is more common and perplexing than I thought:

  • Illustrator hides whenever I click in another window or app, any way to force it to stay on top?

    Illustrator hides whenever I click in another window or app, I often will have safari open looking for ideas or tutorials, is there a way to make it stay available even if I click something else?  Right now if I click in another app, I then have to go back to the dock, then click on illustrartor again to bring it back up on the desktop, it is very annoying.

    Thanks for the reply.  I have been trying to figure this out for like a month,  of course as soon as I ask the question, I find the answer in another post.  Turns out I just had to change the window view.  Found it looking for a way to move the program to another screen.

  • Desktop picture won't stay

    Hi- I recently had to re install my OS from my timemachine backup (from an external HD.) I had everything set up as factory new before using the backup and didn't create any new accounts. Things seem ok now but my Desktop photo (one of my own photos) won't stay- it keeps reverting back to one I had set before all the trouble. Any ideas? It's just annoying.

    Delete the
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    and the
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    as instructed in this User Tip and reboot the computer from the Apple menu.

  • Desktop wallpaper won't stay changed

    I have had this issue since day one with this macbook pro.
    I change the desktop background following the directions and no matter what I do after I shut down and use it again it just goes to a blank blue screen.
    When i look at the desktop settings there is my picture like it should be but the macbook is not acting right.
    This is really frustrating me. Its seems like a simple thing but the macbook pro wont do it.
    What in the world can i do?

    I had the same issue for the past couple weeks and I tried a few suggestions I was able to find on the Internet but no luck.  I decided to go into iPhoto and find the images I wanted to use for the desktop wallpaper and while doing so, I messed around with the menu feature which allows you to set images as your desktop.
    After I got tired of tinkering around in iPhoto, I exited all programs, then re-started.  The image I switched to before the re-start was still present.  I re-booted next.  The image stayed.  Since then, I've switched wallpapers a few times and they all stay like they're supposed to after a re-boot.
    I don't know what I did to 'fix' the problem but I was able to muck around in iPhoto for about 5 minutes before I got bored and re-started.  Maybe this is something you could try?
    I wish I knew what the problem was.  I didn't delete any files but I did have to re-build the Events image folder in iPhoto yesterday when I tried to fix the problem.  I had inadvertently removed all iPhoto images not knowing that iPhoto has some sort of interaction with desktop image settings.  I'm sure an Apple developer would be able to figure out what's happening but it's not obvious to me.
