SAp Solution for revised IAS 23 - Borrowing Costs

Does SAP has any solution to adopt/adhere to the revised IAS 23 which requries to capitalize the borrowing costs. This is effective from 01.01.2009.
I can devide the required activities into below.
1.
Determine borrowing cost u2013
Specific borrowings (we can capitalize interest on borrowings specific to asset)
General borrowings u2013 calculate capitalization rate based on weighted average of borrowing costs except the specific borrowings as mentioned above.
Borrowing costs - interest, finance charges on leases, exchange differences etc.
Classifying borrowings into specific / general needs to be done by management.
2.
Identifying qualifying assets u2013
Though we can use asset class as definition, there are various exceptions set by the standard.
The standard allows management to exercise  judgement.
3.
The standard also defines when to start capitalizing the B costs and when to seize.
What is the best way/approach for this?
Does SAP has any solution to capitalise the borrowing costs?
Please give your pointers/suggestions.
thanks,
ganesh

Hi Ganesh,
To my knowledge there is not SAP standard functionality to capture borrowing costs.
But you may be able to create a workaround by making the account assignment to the borrowing specific asset at the time of accounting in SAP.
This procedure would be very much manual, though.

~Vishal.

  • SAP Solution for Mini steel plant with DRI Process

    Dear all,
I am a metallurgist who spent couple of years in steel and process Industry and then moved to IT Consulting as SAP consultant / business analyst mainly working in the area of solution designing.
Here i will like to describe SAP solution for Mini steel plant with DRI proces.
    u201CManufacture Productsu201D Description
The series of operations performed upon material to convert it from the raw material or a semifinished state to a state of further completion. This includes the establishment and maintenance of a CAPEX plan, the planning, scheduling and execution of production activities, the dispositioning of produced goods, the maintenance of production data, the monitoring of production performance and the implementation of engineering changes.
    u201CManufacture Productsu201D Objectives
    M-010
Compile 3-year CAPEX Budget     Establish the overall manufacturing goals and metrics that the organization will use to measure performance and progress towards objectives. These goals should be consistent with overall organizational strategy/value propositions. Develop long-term goals for production capabilities and manufacturing. These goals should align with the overall goals and objectives of the organization.
    M-050
Perform Long Range Production Planning     u201CBudgetingu201D. Long range planning of production quantities based on planned available capacities and known or estimated customer demands. This process may include planning for different capacity and/or demand scenarios. Approved capital expenditures from the 3-year CAPEX budget may influence the budget. Range and frequency for budgeting is yearly.
    M-060
Perform Medium Range Production Planning     Medium range planning of production quantities based on planned available capacities and known or estimated customer demands. This process may include planning for different capacity and/or demand scenarios.  Range and frequency for planning is quarterly.
    M-070
Perform Short Range Production Planning     Short term planning of production quantities based on capacities and demands as previously planned in the longer terms, actual customer demand and actual capacities. The result from short range production planning will run into the operational plan for the current and following days.  Range and frequency for planning is monthly.
    M-080
Schedule Production     This sub-process enables detailed scheduling by resources over the planning horizon. Planned orders that fulfill demands (Stock Transfer Requisitions, Sales Forecasts and Customer Orders defined by due-dates and due-quantities) come from the short range plan. This results in a feasible schedule, optimizing utilization of the production resources. It is based on production process constraints as well as labor resources in order to minimize production costs and also taking into account constraining raw materials availability.
    M-090
Execute MRP     The purpose of this sub-process is to generate a Materials Requirements Plan (MRP) for all materials, which are produced or purchased. The MRP process involves looking at current material inventory, planned inbound material deliveries, requirements, lead times and stock levels to generate a detailed plan for future material requirements. The materials requirements will be generated with respect to the three planning horizons, short-term, medium-term, and long term. If an over stock of raw materials occurs as a result of a planning change production and marketing personnel will be informed. This would allow for the cancellations of any unneeded shipments.
    M-100
Perform Setup / Changeover     Perform set-up and changeover activities on production equipment as necessary, to prepare for the production of specific materials/grades. Set-up and changeover activities will enable the production equipment to perform operations on materials, as per the specifications called out on the production order. Ensure time is allocated for first off inspection requirements after changeover.
    M-110
Execute Production     Insure that the production plan is met by converting raw materials and component supplies into finished and semi-finished products. Batch/lot documentation will be created for individual production orders to provide traceability throughout the process. Each step of the production process is continuously monitored to identify mechanical, quality, and productivity issues and suggest solutions when problems arise. Data collection for performance and financial reporting enables management to take immediate action on manufacturing processes as well as conduct historical analysis.
    M-120
Perform Quality Management     Quality management refers to the entire supply chain process. Process activities are related to the evaluation and inspection of key characteristics of semi-finished and finished materials. These evaluations are recorded and acted on based on the results. Report/manage internal quality problems or issues. Install and manage quality control systems to insure product quality. For supplier or subcontractor based issues this data should be used as a performance measure during the vendor evaluation process.
    M-130
Manage Product Disposition     This process ensures those semi-finished and finished products that do not meet quality requirements, are prevented from being used and distributed in good finished product to customer, or released for the next step of the production process. A semi finished product is any material that needs to have another operation on line before being shipped to the customer. Finished goods are defined as any material that can be shipped to a customer; in house produced finished goods, subcontracted materials and trading goods. The information required to make decisions regarding disposition comes from the Quality Management system of each production facility. The first step ensures that raw material and returnable goods are dealt with in another subprocess. The reason for the goods not meeting quality standards is recorded along with the results of any investigation to find the cause of the fault. Information is sent to all other parties who need to know: order fulfillment, inventory management and shipping. The process ensures that the most appropriate action is taken to either dispose of, or rework the goods. Disposal or rework may be either through the original materials supplier or subcontractor, or Mittal Steel Point Lisas.
    M-140
Maintain Product Related Data     u201CMaterial Master Maintenanceu201D. The Sub-Process 'Maintain Product Related Data' is the list of activities that identify the steps and decision points related to the request for and performance of additions, changes, and deletions to the Material Master file or files. This sub-process begins when a need to create, change or delete a material is identified and ends when the request is either actioned or refused. The sub-process is intended to cover all material types, including finished goods, raw materials, bills of materials, equipment and service, POS, Sundry Items etc. In fact, any product which the company wishes to inventory or purchase. A number of key strategic decisions, including a clear definition of when we issue a new material, will affect this sub-process.
    M-150
Maintain Production Related Data     u201CMaster Data Maintenanceu201D. This subprocess identifies the activities related to requesting changes or additions to production related master data. Once a need for master data maintenance is identified, a request is submitted for approval. Data defining production capacities and performance standards (e.g. line efficiencies, material yields, etc.) require Corporate level approval prior to maintenance. Other data that is more specific to internal planning functions are maintained at the plant level. Maintenance requests are returned to the originator whether the request is approved or not to improve communication throughout the system. This subprocess may be triggered by: annual operations budgeting process process/production equipment upgrade or replacement change in facility work schedule (i.e. planned hours or days) change in personnel required to operate process/production equipment new products, formulations, or packaging.
    M-160
Operations Execution Reporting     Gather manufacturing information at various points in the production process. Prepare management reports both at the detailed level for plant management and summary level for senior operations management. Reports will be available on-demand and will include - volume, efficiencies (mechanical, line, and labor), yields, downtime, asset utilization, environmental, safety, quality, and financial data. A major goal of this sub-process is to define a consistent method of calculating operations metrics. Some plants will use line information systems and PCSs to collect information. Not all plants are equipped with these systems and the where they do exist, the level of sophistication varies.
    M-170
Manage Process Reliability     Optimize capacity by reducing process downtime and ensuring compliance to quality expectations by the reduction of rejects. Install tracking systems to measure line time utilization, quality results, process settings. Conduct root cause analysis, and use the data to develop and implement improved operating procedures.

Thank you for your prompt response. I'm assuming you are still proposing to use Sales order -> purchase order -> invoice verification -> Customer billing process flow. Is that correct?

  • An SAP Solution for capital planning and Budgeting of Capital Assets?

Is there an SAP Solution for the Planning and Budgeting of Capital Assets?
A solution that provides planning, budgeting, and tracking for capital assets through the entire life cycle of each asset, from the initial request through the final disposal.
The solution needs to be able to run “scenarios.” A scenario contains equipment that may potentially be purchased. Scenario items are used to help determine cost, capacity, and cash flow feasibility.

    Hi
What you suggested is the ideal approach...
However, if they say that the budget allocated to capital purposes (70%) applies to both capital projects and expenses and they would like to control it together, but have reports separately, it is not possible with standard SAP...
If they want to have just one IO for both cap and exp, You can suggest them a work around to capture CAPITAL or EXPENSE in a ref field (XREF1 in BSEG) and you can run KOB1 with XREF1 displayed in it....
In standard KOB1, XREF1 is not displayed, you have to use Exit COOMEP01 to include the fields you want... Add XREF1 to the Structure CI_RKPOS and write your code in the include ZXKAEPU01 of EXIT_SAPLKAEP_001
Without an identifier @ the time of booking the transaction in the system (Either by way of IO or a ref field), you wont be able to generate reports later on

  • SAP Solution for customer crosscheck

    Hi.
For security reasons one of our customers wants to crosscheck customers with an external database located in Switzerland.  Does someone have an idea whether or not SAP has a standard solution for this?
Basically it entails reading the customer details from sales order/inquiry, blocking the order/inquiry while sending the details to an external database, receiving the reply and whether good or bad then releasing/discarding aforementioned order/inquiry.
    Sincerely

  • Solution for tricky alloaction of costs wanted

What would be the suggested solution in this case were we which to break down a cost for reporting purposes.
we're posting to one G/L account from an external program - cost-center, wbs and internal order cannot be used
basically - what I would like to do is to allocate all costs from cost element X to secondary cost elements Y,Z and W depending on information in source document (assignment field for example)
    is this possible?
    Cheers,
    Peter

    Hi,
When you have the information in your posting you can create a program that makes internal posting in CO (KB11N - Enter )

  • SAP solution for Wyoming Worker Compensation code being 6 digits

I am trying to determine what SAPs philosophy is around the state of Wyoming changing their worker compensation code to 6 digits. The standard workman compensation code on the positions and jobs is only 4 in length. I am unable to find any OSS comments around this issue.

    Dear,
Just search with Wyoming Worker Compensation code
Check for appropriate one ... if not relevant and not changed with customization settings by someothers - raise a note.

  • Is it possible to use variant configuration (with a Non-SAP solution) when creating ERP sales orders in SAP CRM WebUI

    Hello,
our customer plans to use a Non-SAP solution for variant configuration (Camos) in SAP ERP (ECC 6.0) and in SAP CRM 7.0 EHP1 as well.
ERP sales orders (and ERP quotations) should be created in SAP CRM (CRM WebUI).
Is it possible to use variant configuration (with an external variant configuration tool) when creating ERP sales orders and quotations in the SAP CRM WebUI or do we have to implement SAP IPC for this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    AEV

    Dear AEV,
I think LORD (lean orders) should work with variant configuration as well. In the note 1236015 there is not restriction listed. However you need lord2 activated in ECC, and ECC system should be on EHP4.
    Best regards

  • Competitors for SAP Solution Manager within central system monitoring

    Hello!
We currently use SAP Solution Manager (CCMS monitors from RZ20) for the central system monitoring for several SAP systems.
Are there some other tools/competitors that can also serve as central platform for system monitoring of several SAP systems?
    (e.g. HP OpenView).
    Many thanks!

    Hello,
You may want to take a look into the EarlyWatch Alert report.
It's a weekly report that gives information about many different areas of your systems and helps you to maintain them. It helps to detect problems before they occur by analysing trends on your systems and alerting about it. It definitely may work taking a look into it: service.sap.com/ewa.
It does not have an additional cost, all you need is a solution manager.
    Regards,
    Daniel.

  • Questions on "FAQ - SAP Solution Manager for VARs"

    Hi,
I just got through the FAQ - SAP Solution Manager for VARs, but have some further questions:
For me it is not quite clear which connections are necessary for which VAR scenrio.. currently we have setup the service desk in our solman. Customer's aren't linked to the solman yet - we have saprouter-saprouter connections. Connecting them via SAP support backbone is an interesting option, especially for incident management. To get this working we should follow note 1124718 right?
But what about the other scenarios like maintenance optimizer and ewa monitoring? I guess for that we definitly need to build up RFC connections to each relevant customer system (~300+x)?! I think it will be hard to handle so many connections - just consider if a customer is cancalling the maintenance contract, everything needs to be removed again... best would be to have a central communication point...
For MOPZ we need up-to-date system information. So everyone is talking about SLD. Do you also recommend this option? There we need again a connection (direct to SolMan SLD or via external SLD on customer side).
According to the FAQ there is a workaround for ewa monitoring for customers with security doubts.. is this also working for non-ABAP components? We need SMD and WI for generating ewas for JAVA systems...
With regards to Enterprise Support contract: ewa only need to be monitored for productive systems? Can a customer be charged if they want to have ewas monitored for other sytems too? How long do we need to keep the ewas (1 month, 3 months, half year) before they are deleted? Are there any specific requirements?
All the work to get these scenarios working.. is this covered within the Enterprise Support contract? Can the customer be charged for work thats done by the VAR in their system (e.g. RFC connections, SDCCN, SLD,...)?
Sorry for this long text.. hope you have some helpful ideas!
    Regards,
    Richard

    Hello Richard,
    (1) regarding network connections see document [Draft:Technical Support Network Connections for VAR Scenario|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=00200797470000089947&_OBJECT=011000358700000880802009E] as overview and with a lot of detailed information.
    (2) yes, you have to setup once all your customer connections at the beginning but then only add/remove with customer contract changes
    (3) the workaround by sending by email can handled a anexception. EWA has to be done for productive systems like nowadays done by SAP. Additional EWA services could meas additional business case for a VAR - that's contract between VAR and customer.
    (4) whatever you think may be a business to sell - do it ! (and get a monetary bonus from your boss
    Kind regards

  • EWA for Business Objects (XI 3.1) within SAP Solution Manager

    Hello!
We use Business Objects (XI 3.1) and would like to get weekly a EWA report within our SAP Solution Manager.
Our SAP Solution Manger has only ABAP stack and it has the SPS version 25.
We also do not use Wily Introscope/Diagnostics and E2E tools within SAP Solution Manager.
    Question
Is it possible to set up EWA for Business Objects with our requirements (SOLMAN with ABAP stack and without E2E/Diagnostics tools)?

    Hello,
The short answer is no. You can verify this in SAP Note  1507629  - Preparing a BOE system for Service Sessions in Sol. Manager.
    "...1.) Managed System Setup
Perform the Managed System Setup for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise as
described in the "End-to-End Root Cause Analysis System Landscape Setup
Guide". This guide can be found in the SAP Service Market Place:
    -> http://service.sap.com/diagnostics
-> Navigate to the "Media Library"
-> Open the document "SAP Solution Manager Landscape Setup Guide"
Please ensure that you perform all steps mentioned in the guide which
are relevant for your product and version. Please read also SAP note
1357901, which is also referred to in the above mentioned setup guide."
So this is a requirement. There are also pdf documetns attached to this note  that describe how to setup the EWA in Solution Manager. EGI_SBOP_EWA_part1.pdf and EGI_SBOP_EWA_part2.pdf.
The fact you have no Java stack and have not installed Diagnostics, just means it has not been done. It can be done and then you can do a managed system setup, and the balance of tasks required to prepare the system and Solution manager to generate EWA reports for the BOE system. Its just more work, not a show stopper.
    Regards,
    Paul
