Satellite A110 Battery won't charge & won't run if battery is plugged in

Hello there,
Let me try to resume the situation clearly enough.
Product : Toshiba Satellite A110-149
Works fine on AC adapter (just a resume from standby issue but that's because of Gentoo Linux, this used to work under Windows XP)
Original battery was dead. Not only didn't it charge but with both this battery and the AC adapter absolutly nothing happened, not a single LED on. No need to mention I couldn't turn the comp on.
Bought a new battery at AboutBatteries.com
- Replace: PA3465U-1BRS | 10.8V | 6600mAh (71Wh)
With this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged I have the power green led and the orange charging led on. But even after 8 hours and computer off the battery hasn't charged.
If I try to turn the comp on with this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged in it starts running but after a while it shuts down automatically, not matter wether I boot or enter BIOS.
BIOS is Phoenix v1.50 and I reset settings to default.
By the way, downloaded the last OS independent 1.70-WIN (bios-20090121162419.zip) but is there a way to update it without Windows?
I've tried to unplugged everything and press the power button several times (last try i kept pressing for more than 2 minutes for what that matters)
I've clean the contacts with alcohol.
Could this be because of a fuse or capacitor I could replace myself or something?
Any help would be appreciate.
Regards,
Charly

Hola,
Agree with you and sadly made the same conclusion. But the different behaviours between old battery and new battery made me wonder.
I've been using this laptopn with the AC Adaptor only for quite a while but I bought a new battery with to be able to work even without it. It is after all the purpose of a laptop. Or I'll keep going with my desktop which way more powerful. ;)
I'll wait for other potential answers and then open it to see I can find any replaceable dead component.

  • Battery showing 100% charge, but not running off battery

I have an Hp Pavilion 10 Touchsmart that shows a 100% battery charge, but will not run off the battery when I unplug the AC adaptor.   I have tried calibrating the battery which went okay. I have tried uninstalling the microsoft driver for the battery and reinstalling it and it did not fix the problem.I have also checked the "Battery Report" using the cmd prompt. The battery report showed everything was charging good with the battery on the laptop for many days.I checked the "Energy Report" using the cmd prompt. The energy report had some warnings, but it was all relating to energy use.I have owned this little computer for less than a year and it should not be giving me this much trouble. At this point, I think I have done everything I can do on my end especially since I cannot remove the battery without disassembling the laptop.  I do not think it is a bad battery unless it is defective because the computer sees very little use and it is less than a year old so I am thinking a software problem. Any additional suggestions?

It is my understanding Hp warranty is only 90 days which means it is not under warranty. I have owned the laptop for less than a year with it shipped by Hp on "Thur 9/18/2014 5:15 pm". I orginally thought it was not under warranty, but I just tried a Hp warranty status site and it said "2015-10-23" was the warranty expire date.

  • Macbook Pro shut down because the battery power ran out. Now I cannot start it and the battery will not charge. Only one green battery charge light lights up and blinks.

My Macbook Pro shut down because the battery power ran out. Now I cannot start it and the battery will not charge. Only one green battery charge light lights up and blinks on the left side. I am running Lion. How do I get this to charge and turn on? Thanks

If your model Macbook Pro is the calibrating model, let the battery calibrate.
If not, and are still under warrant or have Apple Care, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • How do I restore my Ipad 4 from my desktop computer? My charger was broken. I bought a new one but now it won't charge. I have a BATTERY bar in the middle of the screen that is flashing RED and I have a symbol on the bottom that looks like a charger.

How do I restore my Ipad 4 from my desktop computer? My charger was damaged so I bought a new one but it won't charge. On my Ipad, I have a BATTERY bar in the middle that is flashing RED and an icon on the bottom that looks like the end of a charger. I have tried to force into reset mode, by holding the sleep key and home button SEVERAL times but it does NOT work. I have plugged my Ipad into my desktop computer, but I do not have a screen on my desktop that is coming up. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE AFTER I DID AN UPDATE AND WAS LOCKED OUT AND I USED EITHER ICLOUD OR ITUNES TO RESTORE, NOT SURE WHICH AND I FORGOT HOW.

    Hi MrsMoosie,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPad. If your iPad isn't responding or doesn't appear to be charging, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful, in particular the following portion:
If you don't see the charging screen within an hour, or you see the connect to power screen, check your connector, USB cable, and power adapter. Make sure that everything is plugged in firmly, free of debris, and not damaged. You might want to try a different USB cable or power adapter.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
If you can’t charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

  • Ipod touch's battery won't charge... see red battery

My ipod touch won't charge or turn on. I have tried charging it for more then 10 hours but it still won't charge. All i see is the red battery sign. I have the right charger and i plug it into the wall. Any help?

  • Battery won't charge but will run on power adapter

My macbook pro is less than 1 month old and it won't charge when plugged in but will run on the power adapter. The problem started a few days ago and I have tried many different outlets.

    Reset SMC.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If resetting SMC does not help, you have to take the MBP to the Apple store to have it checked.
    Best.

  • Battery won't charge, but will run on the adapter power.

I've had my MBP for about a month now. The problem I've had for the past few days is that the computer will work completely fine when it's plugged in, however the battery won't charge. Once the adapter gets removed, I get the popup that tells me that I'm on reserve battery power. When I click on the battery icon at the top right of the screen, it tells me that the battery is not charging, but it also tells me that the power source is the power adapter.

You need to take it to an Apple store or AASP and have them run a diagnostic on your battery and power adapter. If either is bad they will replace them, and if it's not the battery or power adapter, then it's probably the logic board.

  • Battery won't Charge is it Adaptor or Battery?

My AC Adaptor is correctly plugged in to my iBook, the light turns either amber or dark red like it usually is when it's charging, but the battery won't charge. The light's on the battery don't turn on and the computer won't turn on since the battery is dead. When I press on the battery button quick green flashes happen saying it's dead, so my question IS THE BATTERY DEAD OR IS MY ADAPTOR BROKEN?

This is turning out to be an epidemic. I have an ibook G4 800 and it started doing the same thing a couple days ago. I have another ibook that I charge the battery in, then put it in the G4. But the thing wont start up off just the power cord, and it wont charge the battery. I've reset the PMU and the PRAM, and this hasn't helped anything. 299 for Apple to repair it. But I do get free overnight shipping both ways. That was nice of them.

  • Won't charge, won't sync new content...

Long story short here... my iPod stopped working about 4 months ago. Meanwhile, the computer it was synched on, my Vista computer, went belly up. I drug my old XP computer out of the closet and booted it to satisfy my surfing needs. Meanwhile, there were a few files on my iPod - 2G iTouch - that I wanted to see if I could upload onto the XP. Lo and behold, when I plugged it into the USB port it started to charge. Once it was charged, I had to update the software (as I said it was about 4 months) and then it asked me if I wanted to authorize this computer (the XP) for use with this device and I said "yes". It transfered all of the purchased files to the XP, but ONLY the purchased files, it would transfer none of the photos and none of the music that came from non-iTunes sources.
Well, this is where things went kinda haywire.
While fussing with the Vista computer I did manage to get it to boot, and when that happened I plugged the iTouch into it and it started to synch. However, it also totally wiped out EVERYTHING except aps and photos. And it stopped charging when plugged into any other computer but the Vista. But as the Vista will only boot once every 20 or so tries I don't want to fuss with it much until I can get it fixed, so I managed one more synch and this time it restored all my music to the iPod touch.
However... it still won't charge on any other computer. When I plug it in to the XP it will synch (I get the "synch in progress" on both the iTunes and the device) however if I try to put any music from the XP on to the iTouch it won't upload, and the battery will ONLY charge when plugged into the Vista. I've tried to reset it (I thought it worked the first time but looking back I think it was only because it was on the Vista) twice but right now its still sitting at 2/3 battery life, and it has been that way for about a day and a half.
I know this sounds convoluted...I guess to "nutshell" it: All my music is on my iTouch and on the Vista, and my iTouch will only charge when plugged into the Vista. It will synch but not update via the XP and it will not charge, nor will it charge on any other cable (even plugged into the wall), nor will it upload any new content (ie music files I've had previously on the XP computer).
    Any suggestions?

Charging the Battery takes at least 2 hours using the High Power USB2.0 port at the back of your Desktop, or via a USB Wall Charger, (dont use 10W iPad Charger unless it is dual port with a max 5Watt outlet)
If you have a new battery fitted, go back to the shop and ask them to solve the problem, most likely poor connection.
    Have a nice day!

  • TS3274 Original iPad won't charge, won't update and iTunes won't recognize

I have one of the first generation iPads that won't charge unless it is completely drained of power.  Also if after it shuts off from 0% power ifr any reason it gets turned back on while plugged in, it stops charging and won't continue to charge until the device is completely drained again. Also iTunes won't recognize the device AND it is operating under iOS 5.1.1 and says the software is up to date and won't update at all.  I have tried different plugs, different computers, nothing works.  Is my iPad just too old?

The failure to update isn't an issue. The iPad one is maxed out at 5.1.1.
The other issues may be an issue with the battery, or charging port or software inside. You may want to make an appointment to get it checked out, but even if what's broken is a manufacturer's defect you're outside of any warranty so the most you'll get is the offer of an out of warranty replacement for a fee. might ultimately be cheaper to put that money towards a new device.
Have you tried to give your iPad a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if that helps.

  • IPhone won't charge, won't sync, won't do anything...

My (1 month old) iPhone 3GS won't charge. Not via USB, or mains adapter. It just flashes up the "battery almost empty please charge me" icon even when plugged in. When plugged into the computer a message comes up "USB Over Current Notice. A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub to which it is attached to will be deactivated". The USB drive(s) are fine, all other things plugged in work absolutely fine so it's definitely the iPhone.
I have spoken to Apple via my Service Provider (Orange). The woman said she was sending me a list of things to try, though since I can't even turn the phone on or plug it in to the computer I can't really do anything. However her email hasn't even arrived. Can anyone help me with a list of things that I should try (which is presumably what she is supposed to have sent me) so I can get back to them and get a new iPhone? I need to be contactable for work and this is a real problem.

I don't have any other USB devices connected - I've just tried others to check that its the phone not hte computer. All others devices work fine when connected. Surely it's the phone not the computer - as I said it won't even charge when plugged directly into the main using the iPhone mains charger?
The OS on this laptop is actually 10.5.8. Will try restarting it again now but I think my other half tried that last night

  • Xperia C3 won't charge, won't turn on

Good day! I've been having problems with my 7 day old Sony Xperia C3. It started when I opted to charge my C3 at 11% battery. I plugged it in the socket using the charger that was provided and it suddenly turned off. From then on, my C3 won't charge anymore. Aside from that, when I try to turn it on after leaving it "Charging" for ten minutes it boots the Sony screen up to the Xperia blue wave screen but it turns off with a short vibrate and a low battery sound. (the red light indicator doesn't light up continuously when plugged, it lights up for about 2-3 seconds then turns off).I've tried using other android chargers but yielding the same results. I also tried connecting it to my pc but still the same. .

Hi I got the same issue .. What happened is it turned off just today and I turned it on but its not. When i charged it the red LED light kepts on blinking and when Im trying to open it, its not working it just shows the sony screen logo and it kept on restarting while its plugged to the wall charger. This is upsetting help pls.

So I have a IPod 5 and it is not that old, but it won't charge. I have been trying to charge it in my computer and in the wall. The thing is if the iPod is dead it will charge up until it turns on, but then won't charge anymore. This has never happened before.  Please Help!!!

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • What happened? My Iphone 6 straight out of box, won't turn on, won't charge, won't do anything

I have bought an iPhone 6.
Got it out of the box, held down the power button waiting to see the little logo pop up... nothing. Thought "well it must need a charge" plug it in, wait 5 mins, press power button, nothing. Wait half an hour, press, nothing.
So now, I know its a little strange, so plug into my Mac, nothing.
Do hard resets, nothing, contact apple support and do the "hold home button plug in" and hard resets. NOTHING!
I have bought several apple products and never had any issue, but this seems very very strange and so disappointing. I now have to go miles out of my way to a genius bar so they can look at it.
Anyone else have the same problem? I have searched and searched to find a way to fix it and cannot find a single similar instance??

Plug the iPhone into the charger that came with it and plug the charger into a know good wall outlet. Wait at least an hour. Then reset your hone. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the buttons and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot. if the phone starts u let it continue to charge until the battery is fully charged. If it doesn't start up Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have a technician examine your device. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Battery no longer charge need to be replaced and my plug is not working properly

Each time I shut down my computer and when I sign on again it tells me to com to this website to replace my battery.  I can us my computer unless it is plug in.  Also in order to get my plug to work I have to wiggle my plug in order for the computer to work.
How can I resolve these issues?

Can we have the model of computer you are asking about and information about the age of the battery and any previous warning signs from the battery/charger? It sounds like you may need a new AC plug jack and the cost and difficulty of that repair depends on the specific model involved.
