Scan to Computer (Mac)

My Mac OS X 10.6.8 displays a Lost Connection message with my HP 6500A plus wireless printer when I try to scan to computer from either device.

Hello BroLee, welcome to the forums
I saw your post about the "lost connection" message you are now seeing on your Officejet 6500a Plus. I would suggest power cycling your network devices and trying the scan again for starters.
Try power cycling the network devices:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer.
If that does not help, make sure the printer will copy successfully from the unit itself. If the copies work, try:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
Repair disk permissions
Restarting your Mac
Re-add the printer (do not select the AirPrint driver)
Scan now
I hope that helps you!
Have a wonderful day

  • HP7520 Still can't scan to computer (Mac)

I've seen NUMEROUS posts from folks with the same problem:
The "Scan to Computer" function on the printer doesn't work, even though all other printer functions between the computer and printer work fine.  Printing works fine.  Scanning from the computer works fine.
The printer's display shows the computer name when Scan-to-Computer is selected.  But when the scan is initiated, I get a message on the computer:
"Scan failed - an error occured while communicating with the scanner"
and a message on the printer:
"No Connection - no computer is connected..."
But of course the computer IS connected!
On the Mac, the HP Utility's "Enable Scan to Computer" button is grayed out, with the explanation that the HP software required for Scan to Computer could not be located.  Nothing I do let's me enable it.
Numerous posts on this forum, for this and other HP AIO printers, say to uninstall all the HP printer software and drivers, repair disk permission, reinstall the Full Feature printer software, and reinstall the printer drivers.
Did all that multiple times.  Same problem.
Scan-to-computer used to work at one time and I used it routinely.  Not sure exactly when it stopped, but may have been after upgrading to OS10.9.
Has anyone actually solved this problem?  All the posts I've seen on this problem seem to end without resolution.

    Hello jonnie_s,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand when scanning from the Photosmart 7520, you receive a message "Scan failed - an error occurred while communicating with the scanner". I will do my best to assist you!
How is this printer connected? Wireless or USB? I realize you did state that your operating system is 10.9, but are you running the upgraded version such as 10.9.1? Please let me know on this post.
Have you performed all the Apple updates on your computer? If not, could you please follow this Apple document here. When you reinstalled this HP software, did you use the CD or the HP website?
I would make sure you have completed every step from this HP document on A 'No Computer Detected' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays during Scanning.
I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

After installing Mac OSX Snow Leopart 10.6.3 my HP Photosmart C5500 won't scan to computer.  The printer is working. What do I have to do to be able to scan again?

Often, you have to download updated vendor software drivers when you switch operating systems. HP doesn't list a C5500 on their web site, however, here's the link to the OS X 10.6 C5540 software.  If you have one of the other C55xx models, look for the updated driver/scan software on their software/driver download section of HP.Com.

    Hey thanks for replying.
    Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus - "Scan to Computer" issue on Mac OSX 10.8 or 10.9

    Hi...
I have started experiencing the notorious "scan to computer not working" issue on my 1-month OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus, after having used the feature a number of times flawlessly.
There are a lot of potential solutions mentioned in dozens of relevant posts for both Mac and Windows, e.g.:
"Failed to open a session on the device"...
Scan to computer does not work...
Problem scanning to computer with an 8600 wireless
Unable to enable print to computer...
Enable Scan to Computer - Communication Error
Officejet Pro 8600 Utility does not show my Mac computer in scan settings
A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays during Scanning
HP Wireless All-in-One Printers - Communication Error between the Scanner and Your Computer...
    Etc.
However, in my case, no solution works, after several frustrating hours of trying to fix the issue, in Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), or after upgrading to Maverics (10.9).
The behavior of the device points to a software issue, since:
The printer is visible on the network
The print function has been working fine
    The HP Scan function works
The generic Scan function from System Preferences works (although in earlier times it did not, or it stopped working soon after invoking it)
The "Scan to Computer" option does not appear in the HP Utility screen (although occasionally, after random sequences of unistalling and installing the software, it reappears)
The HP Installer crashes before completing the installation (this is a latest symptom, apparently happening before unvoking the HP Setup Assistant, which still works fine)
As already mentioned, I have tried all possible solutions, including software and firmware updates, Apple drivers, HP drivers (full featured software), clean (un)installations, followed by computer and printer restarts. Nothing seems to work.
The "Scan to Computer" feature of the 8600 always works on my Windows 7 laptop, after initial configuration.
The next step will be returning the device for a refund, but before resorting to that, I am giving it a last chance, in (the unlikely) case there is something new I have not tried yet.
    Thanks,
    PNS

  • Officejet Pro 8600 scan to computer with Mac OS 10.6.8

I have reinstalled the software, selecting HP Recommended Software.  I have restarted the computer and done a software update.  I can print from my computer to the printer.  But I cannot "scan to computer" using the touchpad on the front of the printer.  When I select it, the message says "No Computer Found."   When I open the HP utility on the computer, under scan settings there is NO "scan to computer" option to select, even though the printer says I need to select it.
I can scan a document using by opening the settings on the computer, but I cannot figure out how to tell it to use the document feeder.  So I figured I would try it from the printer itself.  But I cannot get that to work.

Try scanning FROM your Mac. Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom. Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.

I want to be able to scan documents directly from the printer panel to my Mac.  When I select Scan-->to Computer, using the panel, it only lists my PC computer.  How do I get the All-in-One to see my Mac for this.  I use a wireless connection, and I am able to wirelessly print from my Mac to the All-in-One just fine.  I can scan to e-mail from the printer panel, and that works fine.
    Thank you!

Thanks but still did not work.
I called the HP Support Desk and they helped me solve the problem.

    2) downloaded the latest HPPrintDrive from the Apple website: HPPrinterDriver2.16.1
    3) changed my IP address

  • How do I enable 'Scan to computer' via the printer software in a mac OSX 10.7 environment?

I am unable to see my apple mac computer listed on the printer's screen. When I select scan and then computer, it simply informs me to enable scan to computer via the printer software, does anyone know where this setting is?
    OS X 10.7.3 (Lion)
    HP Photosmart 5510
Connected wirelessly with the latest drivers (as of today)
    HP Utility 5.2.0

    Hello,
Thanks for the post.  With this one, we actually have several options for scanning.  I've included the links below for scanning with both the HP software and for scanning without.  On the computer desktop screen do you see printer icon which says HP AIO 110e? If YES, double click it. Then double click "Scanner Actions" and then you can see the option "Activate Scan to computer".
Note: In order to use scan button on the printer, this feature should always be activated. Once activated, if you restart the printer or computer, this needs to be re-activated again.
    Good Luck!

  • Mac 10.9.4 : hp photosmart c4795. scan error. try scan from computer or see documentation. press ok

I have a Mac running Mavricks which the wireless printing works with my HP Photoshmart C4795 Printer but the wireless scanning to my Mac is not working. I am getting the error: "hp photosmart c4795. scan error. try scan from computer or see documentation. press ok"
It used to work. I've downloaded and installed the patch for Mavericks.
I have searched for other solutions but none are for a Mac to do a diagnostic test on the HP page.
Any solutions to make this feature work again?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Scanning from the front panel is no longer available on Mavericks as there is no Full Feature Software for the operating system.
Using the provided solution, you may scan using Image Capture. preview or Printers & Scanners.
Below you may find the steps to scan on 10.9:

  • 8610 Scan to Computer Errors with Mac Yosemite

I am beyond frustrated with this product and the constant errors.
I am having an issue scanning from my HP 8610 to my Mac (Yosemite).  I have installed the printer via HP software and after the first install I opened the HP Utility to enable scan to computer and there was a red dot and the option was unable to turn on.
I went to the 8610 page and downloaded the drivers.  After doing so, the option to enable scan to computer was turned on and I began scanning to my computer.
Once I left the office that night and returned the next morning I tried to scan a documnet I received an error message on the front of the 8610 saying that there was a connection issue.  I opened the HP Utility and again my option to enable scan to computer was unable to be turned on and the red dot reapeared.  I reinstalled the driver, problem fixed.
I have had to do this every single day I return to my office.  I have tried everything.  I deleted the printer, I reset the printing system, I have restarted the printer, I have restored the printer, I have set the printer up not to use Airprint.  NOTHING WORKS.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @bolinej
I saw your message about the issue you're having with scan to computer as well. Please try out these steps in order:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Install the full feature driver here: HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers
In addition, download this driver: HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X
You can also try power cycling the network devices:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer.
Try scanning again and it should work now!
    Good luck, Happy Holidays

  • HP to Mac -- enabling scan to computer stopped working and now won't communicate

I loved my officejet 8600 and had no problem printing or scanning wirelessly.  All of a sudden the scan function stops working.   I can still print without problem.  My printer tells me to go to my computer and "enable scan to computer".  But when I do that, it says "communication error.  Unable to communicate with device."  I did the things that HP support suggested -- downloaded new HP software.  Turned router, computer and printer off.  But problem persists.  I looked at the forum and it seems like other people had a similar problem but the posts are all from 2012 -- and I don't see any solution, the posts just end.  Some people in the string got it to work by downloading all the possible HP software, not just the minimum software -- but I did that and still not working.  What I don't understand is why it was working just fine and then it stopped?  Did some update get downloaded without me realizing it that put some kind of klitch into the works?  I want my scanning function back -- but this is above my pay grade.  Is there a way to get a live person at HP to talk to me?

  • A tab popped up wich said Mozzilla Security, the web page seemed to scan my computer, stated it was infested with several viruses, and that I should download protection immediatly. Is this legit?

A new tab opened up on my tool bar labeled Mozilla Security. The website looks like your security warning. But the security button is gray, McAfee doesn't recognize the site, and the web address does not contain Mozilla.com. The web address of this pop up page is: http://update89.modyett.co.be/index.php?Q57hGtS5bW5G7Hr+M0lEZy4rE7T40TcfocDyRAcjpCPVLS/PhAEpv1Hgq9vgx1qxsLunLyiXHnwwL5T3qX/CE0Q/ZRXJp+2mKYsC+kRq
Do I have a virus, as it states, or is this uninvited web page trying to install a virus? What should I do?

Just because it said Mozilla Security in the title bar does not mean it is from Mozilla as Mozilla nor the Firefox browser has ever done such a thing.
This sounds like one of those fake animated scanners which claims it is scanning your computer and then says you are infected with such and such. It then suggests to download something that will be what really infects your computer if using Windows. As long as you did not download and install this whatever.exe then you should be safe. Though you may want to scan your computer with whatever antivirus software you have with updated definitions just to be safer.
This sort of thing is even more obvious on being fake when Linux and Mac users can encounter these pages.

  • 8620 won't scan to computer

My printer will not scan to my computer. Please download and install the latest HP recommended software for your device from http://www.hp.com/support, and then try again." I have followed the link and re-installed my software twice and installed hp scan too but it still wont let me scan to computer. Hello mcason5,
Regarding the 8620 not scanning into the Mac 10.10, I would like to see if I can help. I assume that you are using Wireless connection, is that correct?

  • Hp officejet 4620 suddenly won't scan to my mac

    Hi All.
My HP Officejet 4620 has suddenly decided that it will longer scan my documents from the scanner to my mac.
I have tried everything, I've downloaded the lastest drivers from HP, checked my mac has had all the latest downloads,  I believe my scanner is supported.
But,  it just will not do it anymore.
This is a very new propblem because I scanned documents about 2 weeks ago with no problems.
Now I just get the message that my scanner is  IDLE.
I've gone into utilities and the message on that is   Scan to computer cannot be enabled.
Any Ideas anyone i'm getting really fed up with this now. It seems everytime either Apple or HP upgrades,  things start to go wrong or things just stop working alltogether.
I don't know what to try next.  I do not want to buy a new printer/scanner the one I have now is only 6 months old, besides that would turn out a very expensive hobby if we all had to keep doing that.
    Help !!!! Please.
    Thanks.
    Tricia.

    Hi All.
I have found a way around it by following a suggestion from robb92014
I used preview and scanned a document,  downloaded it as a pdf.
And it worked!! Thank you Robb92014
Just have to do it this way until HP come up with a solution.
