Screen capture of HP8562A using GPIB-PCMCIA card

Hi,
does anyone know if there is a way to do a s
creen capture of an HP8562A spectrum analyzer using
the GPIB-PCMCIA card? In the programming manual
I can only find how to print/plot the screen, is there a way to
save the screen in a file?
thanks!

  • Can I interface a Pocket PC with instruments using a GPIB-PCMCIA card?

Currently, I am trying to interface a Compaq Pocket PC, iPAQ H3870, with some scientific instruments. I would like to be able to issue commands and gather data from the Pocket PC. Right now, I can create Visual Basic programs to issue the GPIB instrument commands on a computer, compile them, and transfer them to the Pocket PC to run them. But I need to connect the Pocket PC to the scientific instruments.
I was thinking of getting an expansion pack for the Pocket PC with a PC card slot, and then getting a GPIB-PCMCIA card, but then I realized that I would probably still need a way to connect the GPIB-PCMCIA cable to the Pocket PC or something? Would this in anyway work or would I have to try somethin
g else? I am not familiar with most of these devices, so my understanding of this is limited, so is it possible to accomplish this and if it is, what devices and cables would I need to do it? Thanks.

    Hey Edward,
If I have your configuration correct, you should be able to connect the cable that comes with the GPIB PCMCIA card directly to the GPIB card and in affect the Pocket PC expansion slot. (Cable Part Number: National Instruments P/N 182362-02, this is a 2 meter PCMCIA to GPIB Cable)
This has a special flat connector on one end for the PCMCIA Card. The other end is the standard 488 connector you would find on the back of most test/measurement equipment.
I believe there is also a serial port version of the GPIB PCMCIA cable. But I dont have that one, so I wont swear to it.
The other issue raised in your question is the DLL, or interface that you will be using. I havent developed in the Pockect PC environment, and truely havent looked for or at
    any Pocket PC Libraries.
You may find yourself developing some interface LIBs.
But I will look around and forward what I find, if anything.

Buying used GPIB/ENET100 card. What software must have with it to configure and use. Have LABView 7

Actually, I believe the drivers that are available on the NI website are licened for upgrades only. If the hardware came with an NI-488.2 driver, you can upgrade that to the latest version with the link above.
If your purchase did not include a software license (the hardware is sold separately from the hardware due to single- and multi-user license options), you need to purchase a license of NI-488.2.
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=10622〈=US
The part numbers for the single and multi-user license for Windows are 778598-02 and 778598-01. Other operating systems are listed as well.
If you have any confusion, you should contact NI to confirm licensing issues.

  • Problems with GPIB-PCMCIA card

    Hi all
I am using a PCMCIA-GPIB with driver version 2.2 on a Windows XP with a PCI-to-PCMCIA Adapter from Ricoh (device manager says: Ricoh R/RL/RT/RC/5C475II,R5C520 or compatible cardbus controller).
The Win XP detects the card without any problems and there are no resource conflicts.
However, I cannot communicate with GPIB devices and the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard says:
    1. NI-488.2 Software Presence = verified
    2. GPIB Hardware Presence =
And then a new screen: "The trouble shooting wizard has detect that no GPIB interfaces are configured on your system"
Can someone help me? There are no resource conflicts and I have also tried changing the PCI slot. The same problem also occurred when I installed the card in
    another computer.
    Regards,
    Juan"

    Hello Juan,
the first thing I would do is to check that the board is working OK. You will need a laptop to test it.
Once this is confirmed (if not, contact NI for a repair), it can be safely attributed to some incompatibility with the adapter.
At that point, I would check with Ricoh as they may have an updated driver for their board that fixes the issue, or they may have an idea on what's going on. Another thing would be to check your PCs BIOS configuration and see if any setting may help into solving the incompatibility (PCI settings, IRQs, bus-mastering, etc..)
As side suggestions, although I don't feel this will be the issue:
a)it's always advisable to use the latest version on the driver software -NI-488.2-, available at the web
    b)check for an updat
e to the motherboard's BIOS at the manufacturer's site.

    JorgeM.

  • Changing file type in screen capture to .jpg using Terminal

I am having trouble changing my screen capture function to .jpg. For some reason it is set to .tiff and
despite opening Terminal and typing in "defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg"
(no quotes) hitting return and restarting, it remains a .tiff
I have also tried: "defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg" (return)
"killall SystemUIServer" (return) and restarting.(No quotes)
Can someone tell me how to accomplish this? I use keyboard shortcut control/command/shift/4 and I'm running 10.6.4
    Thanks

The OP here was using a keyboard shortcut, not Grabber.
I did some further exploring. I just tried TinkerTool again, and again was able to change the file format of saved screencapture files to jpeg. TinkerTool modifies the com.apple.screencapture.plist file the same way that the Terminal command does.
This clearly works for command-shift-3 and command-shift-4, which save the screencapture image as a file. However, on looking more closely at the O.P.s initial post in this thread, he/she actually said
    I use keyboard shortcut control/command/shift/4
When you include the control key in the command, the screencapture image gets saved to the clipboard instead of to a file, and you wouldn't normally be aware of its format until you pasted the clipboard contents somewhere else. I don't know where the OP was pasting it, but as was noted in the thread cited above by Baltwo, pasting a sceencapture image from the clipboard into a mail.app message results in a .tiff file being pasted. I also find this to be true in my system - perhaps this is what the OP was doing all along.
However this is an issue caused by the receiving app, not by the screencapture function. It's possible to look directly at the contents of the clipboard via:
    Finder>Edit Menu>Show Clipboard
With my screenshot format set to jpeg by TinkerTool, I used control-command-shift-4 to save a screenshot to the clipboard. Looking directly at the clipboard in Finder as above, the clipboard image was a jpeg. When I then pasted the clipboard contents into a mail message and used Mail>File Menu>QuickLook Attachments, the pasted graphic in the mail message was a .tiff.

  • Screen Capture (file format) used to be pdf

Is there a way to change the default file format for a screen capture. The file format in OS 10.3 used to capture as a PDF. Now the format is PNG. I know you can open the file in preview and resave it.
I just want to see if there is someway to change preferences or something so it will default as a pdf file.
    thanks

    Hi, amantia and costicladop —
    amantia, welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are various options to accomplish your objective.
OnyX 1.6.5 (a free utility) and Cocktail 3.6.5 ($14.95 shareware utility) offer the option to change graphic file format with a "single click" — in OnyX »» Appearance »» Screen Capture and Cocktail »» Interface »» Misc. »» Screenshot file format, respectively.
They're both just implementing Terminal commands — which provide another option.
bmp, gif, jpg, jpg-2000, pdf, photoshop, pict, png, sgi, tga, and tiff options are available in both utilities.
    Hope this helps . . .

  • Using a Verizon pcmcia card with my iMac desktop

I purchased an iMac desktop computer last week.
Unfortunately, the only way to access the internet in the rural area where I live is via a Verizon wireless card.
Is there a way to use a pcmcia card with my iMac desktop? I know that there is a USB to pcmcia card adapter for PC's, but I have not seen one for the iMac.
Or can this card somehow be creatively hooked up to a wireless network device so I can use the built in airport device to connect to it?
    Please help!!
iMac Desktop   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Verizon has an adapter that will work - U720 I believe is the model. However, any similar adapter should work. Also, most cell phones can be used as modems with the proper cable. You can purchase cables for your cell phone model from your cell provider's local outlets.

  • MAX communication hangs after Standby Mode(with GPIB PCMCIA)

I have a IBM Laptop with MAX 2.2 and a GPIB PCMCIA Card installed. After booting the computer I can communicate with GPIB instruments without problems. After I get the Laptop out of a Standby Mode, MAX can not make any connection to GPIB devices; when I scan for Instruments it hangs as well.
The troubleshooting wizard tells me: one or more GPIB interfaces failed.
Does anyone have the same problems or solutions ?

On the NI-488.2 2.0 download page it is mentioned that that driver does not support standby mode. No such mention is made on the download page for NI-488.2 version 1.7 (which I need to use for my PCMCIA-GPIB interface), although the 1.7 release shows very much the same problem: After stand-by, communication with the GPIB port is no longer possible.
The Visual Basic example tool for preventing stand-by may help those users who are familiar with VB, but it does not help me.
Frankly - what I'd like to see is an improved NI-488.2 version that does support stand-by. Does NI consider providing such an upgrade/patch?

  • Getting Linux GPIB PCMCIA driver from sourceforge to work

    Hello,
i have a GPIB PCMCIA card and would like it to work with Linux. I've downloaded the driver from:
    http://linux-gpib.sourceforge.net/
which apparently should work with the NI card. There are no complaints from the system during the installation process. But its not working. Has anyone managed to get this linux driver working successfully? Is there a trick?
    kind regards
    nav

I've used the same module you must be trying to load, tnt4882.o, on my
PCI-GPIB+ card. Used it with LabVIEW without too many problems. Never
tried it with the PCMCIA-GPIB card.
You're probably better off posting to the Linux-GPIB mailing list (not
that you shouldn't post here). Mr. Hess and the other developers are very
nice about providing support. When you do post there, ensure you mention
    at least the following:
    1) output from 'dmesg' after loading the module
    2) modifications to your gpib.conf file
    3) results of running the administration program 'gpib_config'
    4) I forget what the packaged test interface is called but it allows
you run ibread, ibwrite, etc functions. See if that works.
    5) all relevant SW versions you're
    using
There could be some pcmcia config files to alter but I'm such a newbie to
that stuff. Well, I just looked at the LG ML and there was a recent post:
    http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=4854735&forum_id=2853
"run the configure script with --enable-pcmcia"

  • Screen Capture (Screen Shot) file default

The screen capture hidden shortcut using command, shift 4 keys creates an image in the png file format. Is there a way of changing that default to jpg format so I don't have to convert each time in Preview?

Someone will come along in a minute and offer you the unix code to do so, but if you prefer a program that can do it for you, download Deeper (search at macupdate.com or versiontracker.com). Deeper gives you control over file type and default save location for screenshots, as well as all kinds of other (safe) tweaks you can do to the Mac OS.

  • Importing screen capture from Quicktime X

I am in the process of making training videos for my job. For a couple videos I want to show how to access certain areas of a website. I have been doing screen captures of these using Quicktime X. They are recording at 1920x1200 with a frame rate around 9fps. My timeline in FCP will be 1920x1080 at 29.97, upper-field first. I will be working with pro res 422 from AVCHD camera files. For the life of me I can not get these screen captures into FCP. It says invalid format, and I'm guessing it has to do with the frame rate. I tried converting these screen captures to pro res 422 at 1920x1080 in Toast 10, and while they converted, the videos then played back super super fast in FCP, probably adjusting to the frame rate.
Can someone help me figure out a good way to do this?

There are a couple of things that will absolutely make you task rife with challenges; one is that 9fps will cause the screen capture to play back in a 29.97fps or even a 24fps video sequence way, way fast! Optimum solution is to capture at the same frame rate that you will be editing your training video in. Hopefully you can do that over and adjust the frames per second. The other issue is that your screen capture is not in a video resolution. Regardless, you should be able to set in the resulting video of the screen capture and keep the aspect ratio, and either size it to fill or fit within the 1920x1080 sequence frame. As for the frame rate difference, it's just extremely different, so you may need to conform it in Cinema Tools and then slow it down by using command- J (apple key + "J") and entering a percent under 100, somewhere around 30%.
So basically the best solution is to be able to do your screen capture at 29.97 fps but if you're past that opportunity, then conform the clips in Cinema Tools to 29.97 and slow the clips down.
