Second CPU detected

This does not seem to be a performance issue nor have I really had any problems, but since I just installed SpeedFan and the initialization on startup reminded me about this. XP sees 2 processors on the system. Why would this be and is it a problem??

Most likely you have a hyperthreading processor and it is indeed enabled. Enjoy the performance boost - it is a good thing.
You can check under CPU-Z or the windows resource graphs - you should see that there are 2 processors.  HT in effect.
Pretty cool huh.

  • Solaris 10 [11/06]: Second CPU not accessible using psradm / psrinfo / ...

    Hi all,
Some months ago I've build up a small Server for some home projects with Solaris 10 x86 11/06. All things are running fine but Solaris does not use the second CPU that is installed.
I have a FSC D1306 server board from an old Primergy P200 server.
First, I saw that my system only uses one CPU:
    # psrinfo
0       on-line   since 10/04/2007 20:13:27I then checked, if the system recognizes the second processor socket at all:
    # prtdiag
    System Configuration: FUJITSU SIEMENS D1306
BIOS Configuration: FUJITSU SIEMENS // Phoenix Technologies Ltd. 4.06  Rev. 1.05.1306             12/12/2003

[ . . . ]After that I wanted to see, if the second processor has been detected properly by the BIOS:

Can anyone help me enabling the second CPU? I would like to use it because I have some applications that would run much better on two CPU's rather than one.
    Thanks for all tips,

If memory serves, to get multi-cpu working, you must enable acpi in the bios. Given that this is a pIII, it is in the era where api was either really buggy or was off by default (so you should also check to make sure the bios was the latest...)

  • Error" Unsupported CPU Detected

Hello, I have a HP Pavilion P6142P desktop with the M2N78-LA (Violet) mobo. I recently installed a new AMD Phenom X4 9850 CPU; which accordingly to the HP website is compatible with this unit. Once installed I get the message: "Error: Unsupported CPU detected, System will shut down in a few seconds". Now I can get past this by hitting "F2" several times and Windows 7 (64-bit, Ult) will load. In both BIOS (v5.22) and device manager the CPU shows up accurately. Any thoughts on a cause and possible fix?

Previously, the specs for the Violet motherboard have stated a TDP of 95 watts. It appears that the AMD Phenom X4 9850 CPU came in two version, both of which are listed at 125 watts TDP. As far as I know, the Violet motherboard is only rated for 95 watts TDP and the only fix is to install a 95 watt TDP CPU.

  • Solaris 8 does not recognise second CPU

    Hi,
my Solaris 8 installation on my E250 does not recognise my second CPU. prtdiag and psrinfo only show one CPU. OBP reports the second has no problem and is online (ASR). It even has the same temperature as the other operating one...
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks in advance to all,

check the .upa-noprobe-mask variable. It has to be 0 to see all cpu's

  • Odd cPU detection and a bios issue

hey guys got somemore info about my super odd cpu
updated mobo biod to latest 5.5
cpu detected as athlon xp 3000 as it "should" do
    cpu-z detected as athlon xp 300 = multi 13 x 166
now all of a sudden its not detecting it properly
i'm back to using the multi-locked at 14, can't lower multiplier, and FSB changes arent too stable, havent done thorough stress tests yet.
    clock atm = 2337MHz o.O
and a wierd prob i've been gettin recently, bios has been resetting itself at random intervals....my computer will just restart itself and reset the cmos to defaults and ask me to correct them
wondering if any of u guys n gals could help
    cheers in advance
    -mike-

i have already cleared cmos multiple times when overclocks have failed.....might try reflashing the bios n seeing what happens
just think its odd that this cpu won't run any lower multipliers and crashes on anything other that "auto" setting
u think the wire trick would me here, i wanna lower multi and raise fsb to 200

  • Wrong CPU detection

My AthlonXP 2100+ is now detected as 1500+, what can I do to change it back???? someone please help.......   ?(

Thanks AGAIN :P , anyway, I pushed the FSB to 134mhz, 1mhz just to 'try', I didnt do the voltage thingi, man, it was terrible , the comp wont start the bios and this that, I got it running again anyhow....I have 2REALLY noisy Volcano9 on my CPU and as an extraction fan its running 52C on idle, hot tropical wheather here......I have however easily overclocked my Radeon to quite high VPU and Video-RAM speeds, it is GREAT!  :D
Hey,I am running a KT3 Ultra with some PC 2100 ram, I am planning to upgrade my mo/bo to the K7N2 Delta , will I see improvements (10-30%) using these kinda ram? 'they' benchkmark with the PC 2700 ram, right? The K7N2 with the IGP is currently available, my comp guy said that the IGP will 'eat' some of the system resources even if I disable it, will it?

  • K7N2L CPU detection is wrong!!!

    lo all.
I changed my fsb to 200mhz and my agp apeture size to 128MB. The pc would not boot up after doing that so I set the jumpers to force 100mhz FSB. I went back in the bios, changed the settings back to 166mhz FSB and AGP 64MB. After restarting my mobo detects the cpu as a 1100mhz instead of a 2500+. No matter what I change or reload, the thing still detects wrong.
I haven't updated the bios to a new version yet, will give it a go and hope it works. If that doesn't work, do you all know of any way to fix this?
    thx
    CD.

lol, suppose it would help if I said it :D . I did put the jumpers back though. I'll check my mobo's manual again, maybe I put them in wrong (sure I haven't though).
I mentioned this problem to someone who's got a similar board and the same thing happend to him. He said he swapped his cpu with a 1800+, booted the pc, then put his 2200+ back in and it detected fine. Now I don't wanna go through that mission cuz 1stly I need another cpu to try it with and 2ndly I ABSOLUTELY HATE removing heatsinks from mobos.
If there's a way (easy one :] ) to fix this, then thats the way I wanna go.

  • CPU detection

I have an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ processor. However, my MSI KT4 Ultra-FISR motherboard detects my processor as running at 1150MHz, and as having a max clock speed of 1150 MHz also. My previous motherboard that I used with this processor, the Abit KG7, detected this processor just fine, and it ran at 1530 MHz. What should I do?

ok, you need to get into the BIOS.
Restart the PC and press the "del" key at boot up.
This will open the BIOS screen.   You will see a list of menus, got to Frequency/Voltage control
In there you will see CPU FSB Clock - it should say 100 MHz, this is what you need to change to 133 MHz.  You will need to type it in.
Once it is set to 133 MHz press "Esc" untill you get back to the first screen.  Then select the save settings and exit.  Your machine will boot and you should see the CPU being recognised correctly.
As 133 (FSB) x 11.5 (the multiplier of your CPU) = 1529.5 Mhz which is the "Speed" of an XP1800+.

  • Second monitor detection and resolution issue with iMac

    Hi All,
long time reader here, got a lot of helpful tips, thanks to all who post!!
I have a 24" iMac, Intel based, with OSX 10.5.8.
I bought a Viewsonic 22" monitor to use along side my iMac when using CS4 and I do a lot of photography. Now the problem is that sometimes my iMac recognizes it as VA2213w and other times it see it as VGA monitor. When is sees it as the VGA monitor the resolution changes a bit, even though it has it on its highest setting 1920x1080 @60hz. My tool pallets on the screen are a bit fuzzy, readable but not the best. I'm using a mini dvi to VGA adaptor as the Viewsonic only has a VGA plug. Could this be the issue? As I have read a lot of the problems here and they seem to be all pointing to the adaptor. If so then why does my iMac sometimes see it as VA2213w monitor and then on other times as VGA. I'm doing nothing to the display other than switching on in the morning.
There doesn't seem to be any consistency! Its driving me mad. I can't seem to get it back to recognize the display as VA2213. I have clicked on detect displays etc etc.
It was working fine all week and then suddenly last night it went back to seeing it as a VGA monitor only. Any help would be appreciated. I have no cursor issues, just the resolution and monitor detection.
    Regards
    Fergul

    Hi All,
Well the issue seems to be the cable. I had an older TFT monitor that I was using and when I bought the above viewsonic, I just simply connected it to the existing cable. It wasn't till I was about to send the monitor back for one that had a DVI connection that I decided to use the VGA cable that came with the new monitor. What can I say, there hasn't been an issue since my last post which was a few weeks ago. Even when the iMac goes to sleep and awaken, no probs. Thanks to those that posted, its appreciated!
    So far so good.
    Take care.

  • X38 Platinum: Problem with CPU detection

    Hi everybody,
I've got a little problem with my newly acquired x38/platinum...
I'm currently assembling a new PC on my own... So far all the component have been plugged-in EXCEPT the memory modules (I haven't purchased them yet).
Despite this complete lack of memory, I try to test the correct boot-up of the system.
And then the following problem occurs: the "lcd post" display hang on "CPU" (before rebooting indefinitely)... Not "DRAM" as expected...
The CPU is a Core 2 Quad, and is correctly powered with a 8-pin/12v connector. The CPU-Fan is powered from the correct on-board pins (cpufan). The speakers are plugged, but no specific "beep" are emitted.
One possible mistake I've made: the CPU-Fan is not fully plugged with the 4 "screws": i only (and hardly) manage to clip 2 of them, I'm afraid of breaking the board if y try too hard with the two others.
Could this problem be caused by the absence of DRAM? Or more likely by the the fact that the Fan is not fully clipped? By the way, is that normal that the CPU Fan is so Hard to plug correctly?
Any comments or idea would be greatly appreciated
Thanks (and sorry for the approximate english)
    MH.

mhz42, please provide full system specs.  Otherwise it is very hard to help you with your problem.  What brand and type of memory are you using?  What other components are part of your system configuration?
The mb is a x38 platinum 1333. The proc is a quad core qx8650, 1333fsb. The hd (western digital caviar) and optical drive (lg h66n) are both on sata and plugged. The memory used is 2go Kingston ddr3 1375mhz... (plugged in DIMM 1/2).
Anyway, I frankly doubt that the problem could come from anywhere else than the cpu (considering the post message)...

    What PSU are you using?
    A seasonic M12-500w... brand new...
Quote from: Jack the Newbie on 23-January-08, 22:03:59
Did you properly plug in ALL power connectors?
The powering should be ok... (the MB, the proc, the cpufan and the graphic card are plugged) The processor seems to be correctly powered, if it was not the case, the post process wouldn't even start (tested)...
    Quote from: Aaron Yuri
You could just buy a cheap Pentium 4 and flash it with that.
That's an idea. Or i could directly ship the mb back to msi and thell them to do it themself... After all the spec says cleary "quad core compatible"...
    So?
Just to be sure: the "since 1.1" from the compatibility table from MSI, refeers to the bios version right? Not a sort of MB revision or something?

  • Solaris does not see second cpu

I have put together the following system:
    Asus A7M266-D mobo
    2 - Athlon MP 1.6+ cpus
    2 - 512 MB DDR PC2100
    Maxtor 60 gb hd
    Matrox G450 agp video
mpstat shows only cpu 0. Any thoughts on how to get both cpus running?
    Allen

    Allen,
What does the following command indicate:
    psrinfo -v.
Do a man page on mpstat and I think you'll find out that this display shows cpu sets! In a multiple cpu machine, CPU's can be grouped into "sets". Unless there is a defination to group otherwise, a dual processor machine will indicate only one "set".

  • Install second CPU, it doesn't boot.

    Hi,
I got a RMA motherboard 694D PRO from MSI. With 1 CPU, it booted fine.
It didn't boot with 2 CPU. BOth CPU is 1000 Mhz.
I tried to clear CMOS, but no help.
    Anyone seen this issue?
    Bruce.

The failure is similar to mine.  there are bad capacitors on the motherboard.  this is a common failure and MSI will likely not honor thir warranty.  My failure happened during the warranty perios and they are refusing my RMA.
You can get a replacement kit here [Even has one for your motherboard because it is such a known problem that these capacitors fail.]
    http://www.badcaps.net/kits/
It's unfortunate that MSI will not honor their warranty like most other reputable companies.
