Secondary hidden Fees/charges? for giving upgraded att phone to friend

I have a dumbphone nokia (no data plan) that's elgible for an upgrade from att.
My friend wants to use my upgrade to get the samsung galaxy s2 since I don't need a smartphone.
Are there any hidden fee/charges from Best Buy if I:
1) upgrade my dumbphone nokia to the samsung galaxy s2 with data plan
2) give phone to my friend who's NOT in my family plan
3) downgrade my phone back to a dumphone nokia and CANCEL my DATA PLAN
From what I understand, many third party resellers etc have a secondary contract with hidden fees/charges. For example, if I upgrade with amazon wireless, I'm agreeing to att's 2 yr committment, as well as Amazon wireless's own contract where I'll be charged additional fees if I give deactivate the phone and give the phone to someone else within X days.
Doug

To add to Brian's post:
And (F):   The fee is NOT HIDDEN, it is listed on every phone posted online if you are logged in looking at the device. (If not logged in, the system does not know if you are a new sub or a current sub. The charges for activation of a new account and an upgrade are different)
It is on the tag next to each phone at the corporate stores
It is listed in the summary of charges BEFORE completing your order during the confirmation screen.
As for price matching other providers... WHY? Their coverage and lack of 4G service does not deserve to even have the thought of having VZW match their device prices. If ya like their device prices better, as price is obviously the only thing you are looking at, why didn't you just go with Sprint or TMobile.
VZW is the number one provider for a number of reasons and last quarter added many more NEW POST PAID subs than all others combined with the lowest churn rate in the industry. Simply they have no reason to price match.

Thank you for your response but in App Store it shows a price of £10+ for this down load.

  • Charged for an upgrade I didn't fully download and don't need

I started to download the iPhone 3.1.1 upgrade for my iTouch and realized that if I installed it, it wouldn't really give me anything I need more than I have now and I would lose everything already on my iTouch (I just don't want to reload everything as my wife and I have several iPods and several libraries and just finally got everything set the way I want it).
I stopped the download before it completed but was charged for it anyway. Granted, it's only $5 but I never installed it or even fully downloaded it. Can I get my money back? If not, how do I complete downloading it and can I 'save' it for later use w/o installing it on my iTouch right now?

It's doubtful that you can get your money refunded since Apple's terms clearly state that all sales are final. But you can ask.
For completing the download, look under the Store menu in iTunes for the "Check for available downloads" command and run that. You should find the update there to be downloaded. Once downloaded you should have the option of whether or not you want to update your iPod at this time. Just FYI, you should note that a number of iPod touch applications require the 3.x version of the OS, so you may at some point indeed want that update.
If the download won't complete, or if you want to try for a cancellation and refund, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department through the form you'll find by selecting the most applicable section of their Support page and explain the problem to them.

  • $ 10 Data Charge for Cellphone Upgrade

Verizon is forcing us to pay $ 10 a month per line data charge in order to upgrade to a decent phone - they must be getting so big that they don't care whether people leave for a provider that doesn't  force you to do this. We have tried reaching a supervisor to discuss & the people who answer their phone tell us that a supervisor is unavailable. The phones that they offer that don't involve this charge are substandard. Does anyone else have an issue with this?

    SmoothCriminal wrote:
Seriously? REALLY? Another one of these "I'm upset because Verizon is forcing a $10 or more data pack on us" forums. You should search the forums, there are tons of forums with the same complaint, give it a rest. I am going to give you the same message that I always give to people who keep on whining about this issue, when obviously NO ONE is listening. And Verizon, don't delete this message, I AM NOT "BOMBING THE FORUMS"! Here is the message:
(This message is to people who rant about how they hate data packs)
    Ok,
PEOPLE!!!! Give it a rest! I understand that you think the mandated data plans are "unfair" and what not, but ranting like a child with a tantrum isn't helping anything. Maybe you should consider thinking up an idea that would appeal to Verizon, while still being REASONABLE. But Verizon probably doesn't want customers like you, because if you don't like the data plan that probably means you aren't giving them much money anyway. You can send them a letter, and calmly and assertively (and nicely wouldn't hurt either) tell them how you feel, and like I previously said, give them an idea for something new(even though I'm 99% sure they won' t use it, let alone care...). If Verizon just dropped the data packs then there would be a bunch of people complaining about how they got fined for using data (those people would probably be the same people who claimed they weren't using any data...). There would be a crap load of extra problems. I think that if you don't like how Verizon's business works you should tell THEM, not us (or you can just leave Verizon). I'm not going to lie, I actually like the data pack...I use the internet all the time. I don't even have a smartphone, I have a 3G multimedia phone (but I just ordered a Palm Pre Plus, for better internet and some other cool features, so I'm about to join the smartphone crowd)...I actually chose to get a even more expensive $30 unlimited data pack. But thats just because I use it a lot of internet. But if you don't like the data packs, MATURELY state your opinion to Verizon, not us (or leave Verizon). I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want to hear it anymore. And don't send me a reply saying something like "We can state our opinion if we wanna." or "You shouldn't just think that forcing a data plan on customers is ok" or correcting me on something I said, BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T CARE! I'd just appreciate if you stopped complaining to us, and start talking to Verizon (or like I mentioned early, you can leave). Oh, you guys aren't being forced into data plans. No one is coming to your home and saying "You must get a data plan, or you will be in trouble with the law". If you don't want a data pack just get a simple phone (the Razzle is actually a pretty full-featured phone that happens to be a feature phone). If you don't want a data pack, then what is the use a smart phone or a 3G multimedia phone? I would think a simple phone would be just fine for someone who doesn't use data. There might be a couple of extra features on the smartphone or multimedia phone...but I have a feeling SOME people (not all), just want the look of the smartphone, but you don't actually care about the features (since you don't get many features with out data). So, please, express your feeling to someone that can actually do something...or at leasts cares. P.S. If you think I'm wrong, don't message me about it!
(Thanks to those people who are trying to stop the annoying people who rant about how they hate data packs, and also thanks to those who don't (or have stopped) rant about how they hate data packs)
Pretty good ranting yourself there for someone ranting against those who who are (your words) "ranting like a child with a tantrum" about something you happen to disagree with and obviously do not understand.  Your recent posts could be characterized using the same words.
You continue to amuse and entertain (please don't stop!) as well as miss the point.  I know you said you don't care but just to set the record straight, the issue is about choice and being able to choose the devices and services we were allowed to choose prior to 01/18/10 when the mandatory data surcharge was enacted.  We do not like the choices Verizon has chosen to allow us to make.  However, we still do have the choice to express our opinion here (unless Verizon takes that choice away as well) and anywhwere else where customer opinions are allowed and encouraged.   If that bothers you then you have a choice to read or not read these posts and respond or not respond.  That choice is up to you, but as i mentioned before , it is entertaining.
Although, I obviously disagree with your point of view, I respect your right to have one and express it here or anywhere else as you see fit.  For me to ask you to stop would be as silly as you asking us to.

Having discussed this with him, he envisions this sort of thing being like he emails me an idea he has, and I validate or suggest and alternative route, so nothing vastly time consuming.
Currently I bill them by the hour for stuff that I work on with him, but this sort of advice is more they would be paying for my knowledge than time.

  • Charge for smartphone on dumb phone line?

I have a friend with a dumb phone who just has minutes and text with Verizon.  I gave her my old Droid Razr with the thought that she could still use apps when she's on wifi at home.  But when she went to the Verizon dealer they told her that she would have to pay $10/mo to have the phone on her line (instead of her dumb phone) even without data.
That seems crazy to me as she doesn't want data, isn't signing up for, or getting data.  As far as I can tell, she'd be getting nothing for this added fee.  Does Verizon really charge $120/year just because a phone can work like an iPod Touch and access the Internet via home wifi?   Or did someone tell her wrong and she just needs to go back?
    Thanks.

    Ann154 wrote:
If they are activating the DROID Razr on their line, their voice and text plan wouldn't change. They would have to add the individual tiered data plan (2 GB for $30) to their line.
If they went to a premium retailer for Verizon Wireless, the store might have been trying to change the plan to the Share Everything Plan which might be more expensive than their current plan even with the data plan added.
But do you have to add data to the line?  Can't you keep the exact same plan of minutes and text with no data?  She's being told it's $120/yr ($10/month) but she's not adding data. It's just because there's a smartphone on the line - which sounds crazy to me.
Obviously if you didn't add data you wouldn't be able to access the Internet without wifi, but when on wifi you could, which requires nothing from Verizon.  That is what she wants to do.

  • Charges for BT Home Hub Phone - I am totally confu...

We have Option 3 Broadband package.
We thought we were getting free calls............
We use our hub phone (which operates from the addtional phone number) and have now discovered we are being changed for calls during the day?? The call chanrges are also really high. The minimum charge being 26p - even when a call is not answered.
I don't understand. If we only get the free calls from the landline - what is the point of the hub phone????
When we moved to this package it was to get rid of an additional phone line we had - we were told this would be the best option and we would get free calls.
What am I missing here????? Getting no joy phoning BT - HELP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

ok, im no expert but i will try to help.
With hub calls there are a number of packages to choose from.  Evening and weekends i believe come free with broadband option 3.  Free daytime calls are an additional cost of £6ish pm.
If you havent taken out the free daytime hub calls, you will be getting charged an extortionate amount per call.
I have had a similar issue in that i requested the free daytime calls package, and BT even acknowlege this as they listened back to the phone call.  However they inform me that i was told to ring back the next day to confirm the order, which they state i didnt do.  Im convinced i did.
The upshot is that i have been charged £900 for daytime calls, that would have cost me £30 if they had put my order through when i asked :-(.
Now, because i didnt inform them within one biling period (i didnt check my online bill or bank statement for some months) they have refused to reimburse me, even though i requested the free daytime calls.
The best thing you can do is ask the India call centre to put you through to the complaints section in the UK.  If they say they cant do that, ask for the terminations department!!  Once you get through to the complaints dept...
    a) raise a complaint
    b) when they turn you down, speak to a complaints manager
    c)  when they turn you down, ask for it to be escalated further
that is the point i am at now.
As a BT Customer of over 20 years, i am very disappointed at the complete lack of customer service/understanding.  Im going to leave BT as a result of this, i cant face one more minute on the phone to India!
Good luck, you will most definetely need it!

  • Will Adobe charge for 'bug fixes'

    Hello,
I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, but I'm really interested. I know Adobe always charges for any upgrades to their software/apps. I'm not sure what they consider Lightroom 1.0 - that is, if they consider it fully cooked and any changes to it would be considered an 'upgrade' or if bug fix releases will be made, free of charge to customers who have purchased 1.0. To me, it probably was released for a charge a little early, and hopefully I won't have to pay for a more stable app.
    Regards,
    Kevin

Thanks. Do any insiders have an idea when a bug fix/release may occur? I would hope it would be before the price goes to $300.
I pesonally tried the product first using the trial (not for the full 30 days) and decided to buy it ($199), mainly based on the very good develop module, and I guess the hype and promise of the Adobe literature. I really hope some of its shortcomings in workflow (and I don't mean anything that goes against its basic design) is included in one of these interum releases soon, and is not looked upon by Adobe as an 'upgrade' release for more money.
    Regards,
    Kevin

  • IPad Charger for iPhone?

I know I can't use my iPhone charger for my iPad, but if I use my iPad charger for my iPhone, willy phone charge faster?

I am probably wrong, I know we can mix/change current (mah.) to charge a device faster or slower, i.e. 700 mah would charge slower than 1000 mah keeping the same voltage, but I wouldn't charge an Iphone which works with 5W thinking it would charge faster using a 10W charger. I never tried before but normally doubleing the voltage would fry the power regulator in any device.

I upgraded my iCloud plan from $20 to $40 a year. However, I am still being charged for both plans. How do I get a refund and or remove the original $20 a year plan?

I have the exact same situation as you mattiger18.  I cannot install Lion or I will disrupt programs that I run on Snow Leopard that are critical for my work.  Apple is not providing a solution for us.  Last time they migrated from Mobile Me to iCloud they lost months of emails and had emails bouncing to my accounts.  They destroyed 8 weeks of my business.  They have done it again.  They have already lost several months of my emails and they are bouncing my business email.  It's outrageous!
I spent thousands of $ on my software and I have no intention of installing Lion or other OS iterations.  It is bad enough that Apple's service patches are crippling some of my applications.  My biggest regret was not altogether getting off of iCloud and setting up all my business email on other email servers like gmail, etc.  It is so outrageous what Apple is doing it is beyond words.  They are supremely greedy and totally uncaring for their customers.

  • I was charged for overage minutes after I was told upgrading to a next higher plan would not.

During the month of January, I was about to go over on my minutes and I called Customer Service. A representative told me my best option was to upgrade to the next higher plan and pay the difference rather than getting charged for the overage minutes. I did exactly that.
On my February bill, I was charged the overage minutes. While on vacation, I called Verizon again and a representative told me I was right in what I was told by the other representative. She filed a request to have the charges removed, and it was later denied. I pleaded my case again and how the first representative told me to do exactly that. Once again, denied. I had to settle for a lousy 25% off the charges after talking them up from 10%.
I feel cheated and scammed after I was told what to do and later comes back and bites me. HELP!

I had the 1400 minute plan and upgraded to the 2000 minute plan. The bill clearly shows the 1400 min plan being taken off and charged 2000min plan from the beginning of the billing period.

  • I was penalized with overage charge for upgrading my plan online

I just switched from AT&T in Oct and signed up with the 700 min Family plan. In Nov, I realized I was going to go over the limit if I don't upgrade my plan. So I went online and upgraded my plan to 1400 min Family plan. When I looked at my current bill yesterday, I was surprised to see there was a $102 overage charge on my bill. I talked to a representative yesterday and asked her to explain about the overage charge. She said because I upgraded the plan online (on demand), my 498 used min were prorated which resulted in 227 min overage.
I said the reason for my upgrading the plan was to avoid overage. I did not exceed the 700 min in my old plan and I was not aware I am only allowed 25 min a day if I change my plan in the middle of the billing cycle. I can understand the proration of my monthly access charge (from $70 to $90 per month) but I don't understand the proration of used min. I pay for 700 min per month not 25 min a day. She offered me a 25% discount of the overage charge which I did not accept.
I called VZW this morning and talked to a different representative. I asked her if I would have upgraded my plan by talking to a representative instead of doing it myself online, will I incur the overage charge. She said the representative would have backdated the change which would avoid the overage charge. I asked her was it fair that because I tried to save VZW resources of not utilizing the time of a customer representative and going online to upgrade the plan myself, I incurred a penalty in the form of overage charge. She couldn't answer my question.
I asked her if she could remove the $102 overage charge. She said she couldn't but offered to make another adjustment which still resulted in $47.50 overage charge. I thanked her for doing more than the CS the day before and unwillingly accept the adjustment. I told her I am still not satisfied with the settlement and how VZW penalizes customers for trying to make it easy for them by upgrading online directly.
Lesson learned: Don't upgrade or change anything online without talking to a customer representative. I am looking for a new wireless carrier as soon as I can.

You want the amount you are charged to be pro-rated, but not the amount of minutes you are able to use? Say you start the month with the 700 minute plan and change half way thru to the 1400 minute plan. You want to only pay half of the cost of the 700 minute plan for the 1st half of the month and still use ALL of the minutes? You then want to pay half of the cost of the 1400 minute plan for the  2nd half of the month? After all, you are only on the 1400 minute plan for half of the month. I suppose you should also receive all of the 1400 minutes for the 2nd half of the month? That comes out to 2100 minutes for the price of half of the 700 minute plan + half of the price of the 1400 minute plan. Quite a deal you want there!

She couldn't answer my question. When you do this online, you are able to choose to have the 1400 minute plan take effect at the BEGINNING of the CURRENT billing cycle, which would have prevented you from receiving the overage charge. It doesn't matter whether you do it online or with a representative over the phone/instore, you could have avoided the overage charge by starting the new plan at the BEGINNING of the CURRENT billing cycle(backdating).
They don't penalize you for doing this online, as I have pointed out that you have the same choices whether it is online or via a CS rep. They will penalize you, though, if you make a choice which will result in overages.
Lesson learned: Don't upgrade or change anything online without talking to a customer representative. I am looking for a new wireless carrier as soon as I can.
Next time, if you are increasing your minute plan, just make sure that you have it backdated to avoid any overages. You can still do it online, though.

  • Cancellation charge for upgrading ?

Hello, I recently got a rather unplesant surprise with my latest bill when I recieved a £76.51 charge for upgrading my broadband from option 1 to the option 3. Now having read the terms I was under the belief that the only actions chargeable were downgrading or cancellation so can somebody please enlighten me as to where this has come from? Thanks

Seems to happen a lot maybe you mentioned cancel in the same sentence as upgrade that would probably be enough
