Sequence Settings Video Previews and GPU?

Dear PrP CC Users,
I wanted to get some information partaining to sequence settings.
In the bottom box of Sequence Settings: Video Previews. There are three un/tick boxes:
Maximum Bit Depth
Maximum Render Quality
Composite In Linear Color (requires GPU acceleration or max render quality)
Normally I tick all of them. I have a Windforce GTX 770 4GB CUDA mercury engine enabled. I have also set to Optimise rendering for: Performance.
My questions are as follows.
-Do these selections effect the final output of a timeline for delivery or is it merely for during regular playback and preview rendering?
-Also, when I export using Media Encoder through dynamic link, is it bad to Use Previews for a faster export, often I export to ProRes4444 for Grading, I heard that Preview files will always differ as its created by the GPU and can slightly change the colours dependent on the GPU you have, thus is it better to export and allow it to re-render using the CPU in Media Encoder (I always set maximum bit depth and quality)?
-Lastly, in the export process, when I select Maximum Bit Depth, there are options of the bit depth value (32, 48, 64) does this become redundant since I checked maximum bit depth?
Thank you.

The first two boxes only affect previews.  The same boxes in the Export Settings dialog will override those and determine the output.
Using previews for export is generally not a good idea, as doing so will incur an additional compression step.  The exception is when the previews are lossless (or nearly so, as with DNxHD).
Not working with ProRes, I've never seen those options.

  • Quicktime not an option on Sequence settings Video preview

In the sequence settings, under video preview, "Quicktime" is not listed as a Preview File Format.
    Running Windows 8.1, 64bit
I have installed the latest Quicktime, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, repaired it, to no avail.
Also I have done the same with Premiere Pro, uninstalling and reinstalling.
Here is a screenshot of the drop-down menu that does not have the Quicktime option.
I have run out of ideas for how to get this to appear, so I came here :/
    Thanks in advance!

[Here's the one response from the duplicate thread.]
The Preview format options have always been somewhat limited. Consider this, that the previews should be just that - previews. When you have sufficient effects added to a clip to where it won't play smoothly in the timeline, you might wish to render it to get a better idea how the finished product will look. However, when you do the final export, best to NOT check the box for "Use Previews", since you would then be re-encoding (recompressing) the clip a second time. Better to export right the timeline, encoding straight from the source to final destination, diregarding any render previews you might have made.
Maybe you can elaborate on the intended use or workflow of your desired preview format? I'm a PC user and I think that on the Mac, with FCP, one had the option to render previews as QuickTime and those files could then be stitched together at the end without transoding them again, but not so with Premiere.
You might find that different Sequence Presets will provide different render preview options. 1280x960 is a non-standard format so that could limit your options.

  • Is it possible to make a video preview and export it from edge animate?

is it possible to make a video preview and export it from edge animate?

    Hi Johan,
If you are looking to export video through Edge Animate.
Well, there is no direct way to do it but you could use a screen recorder to make an mp4. Then you can import the mp4 in PS and if you have the plugin for gif then you just save aa a gif.

  • Sequence Settings - Video Processing question!? AVCHD

I'm using the panasonic HMC40, very similar to the HMC150.
    So i'm shooting in AVCHD.
My Sequence Settings are as follow...
    1280x720 - HDTV 720p (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio - Square
Quicktime Video Settings Compressor: Apple ProRes422 - quality 100%
('Interlace' and 'Enable 4:4:4 chroma filtering' are NOT selected)
    Video Processing
    Render in 8-bit YUV
    Process Maximum White as: White
    Motion Filtering Quality: Normal
now while i'm editing the footage looks good, but when i go to export my video (export - quicktime movie - current settings - recompress all frames NOT selected) i get some weird lines from lights and color changes. almost like the colors aren't blending right.
does this have to do with the Video Processing settings?
what is the best way for setting this up for AVCHD footage to make it as close as possible to the real footage?

The weird lines from lines sounds like a function of cheap camera lenses. All consumer cameras show streaks off bright lights. Not sure what you mean by the colors not blending right, though it sounds like banding, which you often see in low light situations with small chips and heavily compressed formats like AVCHD. A screen shot of what you're talking about would be helpful.

  • When I try to import video frames to layers in Photoshop CS6 all I get is a solid green screen where the video preview, and the layers are supposed to be. How do I fix this?

I am using a Mac OS, and even if I select a random chuck of video and convert it to layers the layers from that are still the solid green image; not the video.

Are you trying to import a silent MP4? I had the same problem, when when I switched it to an MP4 with sound - I don't know why, but it worked.

  • Help on Video Preview and Burn

I have used Premier Elements 8 for a while with no difficultty and am now using Premier Pro CS5. My work in Premier Pro CS5 shows up fine in the monitor window, but whenever I do a dynamic link to Encore my work just appears in a window much smaller than the monitor size.  Ok, what am I missing?  Any help appreciated.

  • I need help changing the sequence settings to my video

I shot on a JVC Everio in 720x480 29.97fps. I normally shoot in 1080x420 so I know the picture quality isn't going to be AS good. Normally, when I drag my clips into the timeline Premiere changes the sequence settings for me and everything looks fine. However when I drag  this footage (the 720p) in, it becomes elongated and fuzzy.
I've messed around with the sequence settings by using DV-NTSC widescreen 48kHz and DVCPRO50 480i NTCS widescreen. When I drag my clips in they're cropped really close and they still look a bit off when I change the image to fit the screen (DVCPRO 50 looks a little bit better).
When I shot the video it looked crisp and clear on the monitor. I'm wondering if it looks strange because of the sequence settings and if so, what would be the best settings for this video.
The final video is going on youtube and I would like to make it look as good as possible!
Please let me know if you can help me out!

However when I drag  this footage (the 720p) in, it becomes elongated and fuzzy.
What 720p? You gave us two frame sizes. Neither of them are 720p.
1080X420 is a very strange frame size. And you say it is normal? A 720p video is 1280X720 non-interlaced.
Chances are very good that it is 480i video you shot with a frame size of 720X480 and it is interlaced.
That video should be interpreted with a Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) of 0.9091 (rectangular pixels that are taller than they are wide) - and what that means is that it isn't 16:9 it is 4:3 and should be edited in a 4:3 sequence. If, however, Premiere Pro is seeing the footage as having a PAR of 1.0 (square pixels) then you may have to right click on the clip in the Project Panel and select Modify|Interpret Footage and set it to D1/DV NTSC (0.9091)

  • Sequence settings when mixing 25fps (1920x1080) and 50fps (1280x720) ??

I've got some DSLR footage filmed at different frame rates (25 and 50) and as a result also different sizes (1920 x 1080 / 1280 x 720) compressed as H.264.... can anybody advise me as to what format the footage would edit best in (fastest render times) what my sequence settings (frame rate and frame size) should be in FCP while editing a mixture of both these types of footage? I understand that setting the frame rate at 50 is suitable for slowing 50fps footage down by 50% but would this affect the 25fps footage?
Any help would be brilliant, cheers.

Convert both to ProRes. If you want, Magic Bullet Grinder will make this process very fast, and upscale the 720p footage to 1080, and make the 50fps into smooth slow motion 25fps. It utilizes all the processors in the computer.
Sadly it doesn't bring in the source timecode nor assign a reel number (important to professional editors). The only way to do that is via Log and Transfer...here's the workflow for that: Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial
Most important is to backup the files, and to convert to ProRes. What footage do you have the most of? What format do you want to deliver? These are what help you decide what format to edit in. Do you want the 50fps to be slow motion? Then use can CONFORM with Cinema Tools. And edit in a 1080p timeline (720p will be upscaled).

  • Sequence Settings FCP to Color and back again

Sorry in advance if i missed the answer to this when previously searching the forum.
Ok, I have a sequence in FCP. I duplicate it removing any problematic effects and place it all on one time line. I send the sequence to Color. In the settings I notice that the quick time settings are a different ratio to my fcp settings. I change them to 1440 x 1080 (same as FCP). When I send the rendered graded sequence back to FCP the sequence changes to a different frame size?
I can go into sequence settings in FCP and change them but is there a way of keeping the same aspect ratio / pixel ratio and dimensions between the 2 applications.
It feels like I have missed a step when setting the applications up but I can't find where.
Any help will be much appreciated

    morphretouch,
Since you are working w/an interlaced format you should be aware of a couple of bugs in Color that will cause the program to mess up your field order. The first bug is using certain nodes in the Color FX room and the second bug is caused by resizing/reframing in the Geometry room (this includes resizes that are done in FCP as that information is carried over into Color). Even if you resize something in Color and then hit the "reset" button the bug will still happen because Color still thinks you resized the image (the border of the frame in the Geometry room will be red instead of white).
More details about the Color FX bug can be found here:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/using_color_fxnode.html
A work around for the Geometry room bug can be found here:
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/223/7110
The work around is in a post by Saul Budd, about half down the page, and starts with the line "I've just had a "D'oh!" moment ..."

  • Mac pro HDMI video preview goes yellow solid and turns off by itself often

I work with 2 monitors. main monitor is Apple thunderbolt cinema display 27", and second monitor is LG HD tv connected through HDMI of MacPro.
when I use aftereffect, I use my LG TV as video preview, and it goes yellow solid and turns off itself very often.
I use Final Cut Pro X and, davinci 10 lite with LG TV also, but it works well in these condition.
It makes trouble with aftereffects only.
I hope it can be solved.
    thank you

    thank you, tim.
English is not my first language. so I'm not sure I fully understand with this.
I will show you my full hardware setting
    * Does preview on the LG monitor work at all? When does it go yellow? When does it turn off?
    - it works initially. A few minutes after I start making RAM preview, yellow screen appear(the RAM preview keeps going anyway),
if I stop the video preview(command + /), and restart video preview, it turns on normal,
but if I don't stop video preview, 10 or 20 seconds later it turns off by itself, and all the options in 'Output Device' disappear except 'Computer Monitor Only', so I should restart After Effects to turn on video preview.
    * When you have the problem, if you open Activity Monitor, is Adobe QT32 Server running?
    - yes, it(it appears red characters, is it normal?) looks running
    * Do you have Premiere Pro installed? Does it have the same problem when previewing to the LG monitor?
    - no, Premiere Pro works well.
    - I tried to remove Blackmagic Codec.component , but it didn't solve my problem
let me know if you need more information about this.
    thank you again.

  • After saving project upon reopening one of my video files and it's corresponding audio is red

After saving project upon reopening one of my video files and it's corresponding audio is red (both are offline).  Attempts at relink result in a warning that the audio will be deleted (which is does when tested).
This project is based on a multicam sequence (2 video files) and using Pro CC (latest Cloud build).
Anyone come across this and/or have a solution?  Thanks in advance.

Appreciate your assistance and guidance Mark.  Yes, I am a newbie on this forum - and fairly new to premiere pro though have used elements since version 4.  I'll answer your leads below.
First off, some bookkeeping & jargon matters:
"you reported the file extension (.mts) but not the codec of the video therein. AVCHD?"
.mts files are Sony AVCHD files.  filmed with Sony NXCAM NXU5 camera.
"re: the version you're on, rather than simply stating "the latest," it helps to report the exact version numbers as shown in the About box. That not only avoids any confusion today but also aids customers who come upon a thread months from now."
    Version is 7.2.0
"you refer to "rendering" to a new format. I know that "render" is the right term in some NLEcosystems, but with Premiere we distinguish between rendering and exporting/encoding. Rendering is reserved for creating preview files for smoother playback within PPRO, whereas exporting/encoding covers writing a sequence out to an output clip."
My bad - I exported/encoded the sequence to a new output clip.
Now back to our regularly scheduled troubleshooting. Three questions:
did you start this project in CC7.1 and then update to 7.2/7.2.1 along the way?
    I started this in 7.2.0
are either of the clips in the multicam sequence spanned?
I don't know what "spanned" refers to
I gather that you created the multicam sequence via the new workflow in the Project panel: select the clips, right-click>CreateMulticamSourceSequence. Am I right?
    Correct
If so, please create a new sequence, set the timeline to insert sequences as individual clips (via the left-most button under the timecode control), add the multicam sequence to the new sequence, and post a screenshot of the timeline.
Now all of a sudden I am able to open my project file(s) as before with no problems.... very curious.
I did this and then could not find my multicam sequence.... so no screen shot... BUT what happened?
thank you for your guidance with this.

  • Rendering Video Previews increases number of videos

    Well,
I have a clip that is about 2 minutes long and has 57 video clips, about 10 cross-dissolves and a simple preset look from magic bullet 1.4
When I hit render a few hours ago it said "Rendering 1 of 57 Video Previews" and "Rendering Frame 1 of 2889".....so I took a nap.
Four hours later it's still rendering....and now it sais "Rendering 5786 of 18759 Video Previews" and a similar astronomic Number in Frames.
I found out that it happens when I select the area of my entire clip and hit "Render entire work area" to even render the many yellow parts of the sequence.

I have the same problem as this original post. I have taken a sequence that was incorrectly created using 29.97 instead of 25p and copied and pasted the entire project into a new sequence that is 25p.
I have fixed all the keyframes for the audio which did not come over in the copy and paste and then went to render the timeline. I first tried to render just a short section as a work area so I could see if my rolling credits were smooth. But the render is constantly creating more and more video previews. Far mare than the project has. Estimated time left says 00:00:00 and the render bar never go green past the first 100 frames or so.
I have left it to render for hours just to see if it finishes, but the video preview count just grows and grows.
It does the same whether I render the whole project, or just the work area.
Using Premier CS5 on windows 7 64 bit. Build 5.01
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This first post was over 2 months ago, I wonder if any Adobe folks have an idea of what this problem is?

  • Video Preview not Working in CS6

Before AE CS6, I was using AE CS 5.5 on my MacBook Pro (model 8,3)  and I could always go to AE Preferences:Video Preview and choose my additional monitor for previewing. I was previewing my Stereo 3d comps perfectly on my 3D hdtv through a HDMI to Mini Display Port cable.
I now have a Mac Pro and AE CS6 and in that preference, the "Output Device" dropdown only lists Firewire and Computer Monitor Only. With my old setup, I could choose my TV and everything was great. But this new setup won't allow me to see or choose my TV.
Please help! Has anyone else had this problem? Has something in AE CS6 changed for external monitors? I can't tell if it is CS6 or the fact that I have a new Mac Pro and it's video card might be different...

That's a great lead. I realized that Final Cut Cut Studio 6 was on my laptop before but it is not on my new Mac Pro. FC Studio 6 includes a bunch of codecs as I recall. So I went to install it on my new Mac Pro and I got an error message that said my Mac cant install Power PC architecture (or something like that) and wouldnt let me install it. Any Idea how I can get those codecs without installing FC Pro 6?
PS: I tried AE CS6 on my TV and it worked like a charm. There were lots more option in the Video Preview Preference.

  • Multiple Codecs in Single Timeline ---Sequence Settings

This has to do with determining the correct sequence setting when using source material that is originally compressed in different codecs, some of which has square pixels, some ntsc "rectangular pixels," many of which are compressed at different fps.
Is it best first to transcode all the source material to a single codec, with a common frame rate and pixel aspect ratio? And, if so, which codec?
A good deal of the material is standard dv 720x480, 29.97 fps.
Should that be the base codec? Should my sequence settings reflect that and have everything else conform to it? Or should I conform everything to something different?
What I'm aiming for is to avoid constant rendering when I bring these different sources into the timeline.
And, more generally speaking, is there a tutorial regarding codecs and mixing them in a single timeline?
    Thanks.
    david

Is it best first to transcode all the source material to a single codec, with a common frame rate and pixel aspect ratio?
    Yes...absolutely.
    And, if so, which codec?
    ProRes NTSC. Or DV50.
A good deal of the material is standard dv 720x480, 29.97 fps. Should that be the base codec?
No. DV *****...lowest end SD format that is broadcast acceptable. Don't do with the lowest common denominator...go with a GOOD codec. What are the others?

  • Movie Preview and movie track don't match

    Hi there..
i've imported a movie slideshow (created in fotomagico) into garageband, with the intent of adding chapter markers. However, the movie timeline on the top of the page, doesn't match the view preview window. Ie. the view preview is showing clips that is ahead of where my video timeline is.
Anyone know how to fix this?
When I click on the markers I made, it does show that I'm in the right spot, but i am having more and more trouble trying to figure out where i really am (as per the timeline, or video preview)
    any ideas?

i'm almost glad that didn't help (i would have felt really stupid!)
    no, unfortunately that didn't help.
The good news is the music and video match up perfectly, its just what I'm seeing in the top half of my screen (Movie Track), is one thing (ie lets say slide 52), but what I am seeing in video preview (and hearing) is lets say slide 56.
it gets to be anoying because i cant easily locate specific scenes to add chapter markers. plus id really like to know that i am not marking the wrong spots!
