Serial ViRead missing receive characters

When using VISA 2.0 or 2.6 we find that ViRead()
drops a few read characters once in a while reading
from the serial port. The baud rate used was 9600 baud. We are reading a block of about 80 characters
approximately 10 times a second. We are sure that the data was sent and go into the serial port, but polling
using ViRead() drops 5-10 characters periodically. Has
anyone had a similar experience? Might this be a Windows OS problem?

I've got several random thoughts that might help:
1) The latest version of NI-VISA is 3.0.1 and we have fixed a number of things related to Serial. In particular, if I recall correctly, we fixed a case where there was a couple of error conditions that we had not been returning, and now do. So that might clue you in to the problem if you upgrade and at least get a VISA error code when this happens.
2) Call viSetBuf to set the I/O input (aka receive) buffer to a value higher than what you expect to receive. That means that as long as the Windows driver can keep up, it will hold the data until VISA gets it.
3) Try using hardware flow control (RTS/CTS) if possible. A lot of people forget that if you don't specify flow control, data loss is quite
likely. Using hardware flow control means that even if the Windows driver can't keep up, the UART can keep the device from sending more data.
I hope you find at least one of these suggestions helpful.

Some 7945 phones have no missed, received, or placed directories when connected as remote proxy

We have about 20 7945s connected over the internet to our 8.6.2 CCM. A few users report that they are able to see Missed, Received and Placed call info on the device using the directories button (I know corporate directories won't work without a proxy and external path to the CCM so this is not that issue). Most of the proxy phone users report these lists are empty on the device. I cannot figure out which settings control this, if any.
can someone point me in the right direction?

thanks John46 for your reply, It seems like an awful lot of people are having the same issue right across he UK.. Just cant help thinking is this a sales ploy for all of us to transfer to Infinity... or even this is because of infiniy.. and BT have to throttle to ensure they get their stated bandwidth.
just had enough of paying out hard earned money(£47 per month) for less than sub- standard service.
I feel a cancelation coming on....

How to find missing glyphs / characters

hi,
is there a way to find missing glyphs / characters (that are not contained in a font and thus displayed as pinkish rectangles) in a text?
I thought there might be a metacharacter or a variable of the Text object, but I couldn't find anything.

Hi Sankar,
In the Item Master Data - General tab, if an item is managed by 'Batches' and its 'Management Method' is 'On Release Only' then that item can be received into stock without creating Batches for that item. However, the item cannot be released from stock e.g. in a Delivery document without selecting batch numbers.
Lets assume that your item '0001' is 'Managed By' Batches and has a management method of 'On Release Only' in the Item Master Data - General Tab. In this case lets say that a Goods Receipt PO is added with a quanauty of 10 for this item and it adds to the database without creating batch numbers for the it. However, the batch numbers, for this quantity of 10 received in the Goods Receipt PO, must be created before they are released from stock, in a Delivery for example. To create these batch numbers the Batch Management must be run with the 'Operation' 'Complete'. This is the only way to create the Batch numbers in this scenario.
I hope this helps clarify the 'Complete' operation in the Batch Management.

Lost my laptop, and now I need to reinstall CS2, in order to install CS3. I downloaded CS2 from Adobe site but when I run the program I get an error message: Your Adobe Photoshop user name, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue. I was using the serial nr that Adobe is providing on the CS2 download page.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar

Serial number not received

On March 21 I payed the fee for the creative cloud membership for photoshop and lightroom. Up until now (april 11) I did not receive my serial number(s) or downloadlinks.
There is only 9 days of free trials left, and I need Lightroom. When can I receive my serial numbers?

you should start your own thread, but again:
there is no serial number used with adobe cc programs. you use your adobe id.
go here and download the cc desktop app (using your adobe id), Download Adobe Creative Cloud apps | Free Adobe CC trial
after the desktop app is installed, open it and use it to install your ps and lr programs.

Missing HEX characters from scanned string

Hi everyone,
I have a program which scans a continuous string of serial data which is divided into header, data and checksum. I have replaced the serial part of my code with a simple string input to simulate the data input for testing and as in the diagram below you can see 0A, 0C and 0D are missing and I can't figure out why. Currently it is an exercise to parse out all the data I need for a data aquisition system. If anyone can help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it. This was in a different thread but it has dissapeared into the ether. Here is the picture illustrating the problem.

You are doing all this way too complicated. There is absolutely no need to use "scan from string" to simply chop up a string into parts. Use string subset instead (in a loop).
You also have way too much duplicate code. You can operate on arrays directly and use array indicators for the channels. This reduces the complexity of your diagram 10 fold!!!
I don't have your serial hardware, but attached is a small code fragment (LV 8.0) that seems to do about the same thing with your string using 10% of your code. Modify as needed. Let me know if anything is not clear.

Serial Number missing

Hi,
I have been using Aperture since Xmas (was a Xmas present). I tried opening Aperture today to edit my new holiday photos, and it said I need to enter the serial number (I did this already when I first received the product).
I have looked everywhere, and although I have the installation disc and the manuals, I do not seem to have the box with the serial number on it.
Is there anyway to retrieve my serial number from when I originally registered the product? Any ideas why it simply "forgot" it was previously registered?
Background info: the screen on my macbook pro stopped working about 3 weeks ago. I took it in for repairs and the graphics card was replaced. This is the first time I used Aperture since getting the MBP back. I also noticed that when I opened iTunes for the first time, I had to accept the terms, even though it wasn't a new copy.

in the future it would be best to keep the boxes and ALL paperwork for apps as you will often need your serial number in most future upgrades

Serial Number at Receiving Plant

Hi,
A Serialized equipment is transferred from one plant to another through P.O (Stock Transfer) route.
At the time of posting Goods Issue at the Sending Plant, Serial Number is specified. However, during GR at the receiving Plant, the Serial Number is not getting copied automatically and we had enter it again.
What config setting is required in Serial Number Profile or MM to get the Serial Number copied by default at the time of GR ?

Missing Asian Characters in Chromium

It seems Asian characters (not sure if it's just Japanese and Chinese characters specifically missing or pretty much all Asian fonts) are missing in Chromium, and just show up as boxes.
I have a few music files on my computer with some Japanese characters, and they show up fine in Nautilus and DeaDBeeF. So it seems the problem is only with Chromium.
I also recall seeing similar behavior in other Linux distros (openSUSE and Ubuntu) with Google Chrome.

In my Gmail, I noticed one of my emails had two Japanese characters in the title that were un-readable with the previous fonts (stokes were missing). The strokes show up fine with the Adobe fonts though.

Imported Subtitles from and STL file are missing German characters.

I have had an STL subtitle file prepared by external company.
It works beautifully and imports into DVDSP fine. The problem i have is that some German characters (ö and ü) are not displaying and instead i get other characters.
I have tried changing language input source in system prefferences but to no avail.
Can any one help? Please

they are nice people, but they kept sending changes that conflicted, going back and forth over the same items. Turns out two different people were doing the reviews and they didn't agree on wording of the theft warning. Took six extra months to do. Oh, and make sure you have a printout when you start to work. Often you won't know when the accents are missing.

Missing Asian characters in imported STL subtitles

Hi,
I am subtitling movies in FCP7 into CJK languages and then exporting XML and converting it to STL for streaming in DVDSP4. (I need to deliver QT movies with burned in subs as well as a DVD with streaming subs.)
After importing Japanese and Korean STL subtitles, I noticed that the first or the first couple of characters are sometimes dropped. It is quite random, some strings are complete, where others have missing characters. STL file looks OK, it is UTF8 encoded and there is nothing unusual about the strings that drop characters in DVDSP.
I noticed this problem doesn't occur when a string starts with a Western character. So currently, before converting XML to STL, I am running search/replace and insert a single byte space before each string. Seems to be doing the trick, all characters seem to appear correctly. However this is an additional step in the process and it makes the top row of subtitles shift a little to the right.
Has anybody encountered the same problem and knows why this happens, and perhaps found a better solution?

Sorry for my late response, the email notification didn't work...
I edit STL files. It is a coma delimited format, so you can search for a coma and replace it with coma+space. Then run a secons search for two spaces and replace them by a single space. This will add a blank space in front of each string.
When you import this STL into DVDSP, it all works fine and if you can be bothered, you can manually remove the spaces.
