Setup Dual Ethernet (Snow) using Windows XP

Is it possible to configure a Dual Ethernet (Snow) Airport base station using only a pc running Windows XP? If so, which version of the admin utility should I use and what's the exact process in order to get things setup?
We've performed a hard-reset but it will not allow us to update the base station using 4.2 for Windows, because there's an error connecting to it via ethernet.
Thanks!

Thanks. That has helped point us in the right direction. In addition, I found this info particularly helpful in order to set the TCP/IP settings in the Network control panel:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106685
After changing those settings, we were able to configure and update the base station.
However, after putting the TCP/IP settings back the way they were (obtain IP automatically instead of manually), the PC connected via the LAN port and the wireless can't connect to the internet at all. The base settings reveal that it's using an IP address starting with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx which tells me it can't get a real IP from the cable modem. Unplugging the cable modem, base station, restarting, etc. aren't doing the trick. Oh so close. I'll keep you posted unless you have any further suggestions.

  • How Do I setup Dual Ethernet (Snow Saucer) base as "repeater" for Extreme

Just migrated from G4 iBook to an MBP. Currently still using my Snow Saucer (Dual Ethernet) airport base station (had to communicate with the Base using the iBook, and manually enter the MAC address of the MBP).
When I go to the trouble of setting up my Airport Extreme to become the base station to which my DSL line is connected, I also want to use the old Saucer as a "repeater" to get a better signal somewhere else.
Where are the instructions for doing this?
Also, I want to know if this may be a bad idea, because IIRC I read that if the Extreme detects a device using the "old" frequency, it will downgrade itself to that frequency, and I will lose the advantage of the Extreme for any devices which could make use of it.

However, extreme and express base stations can be configured to to act as relays and receivers for Graphite and Snow base stations.
With no setting or availability of WDS capability on the dual ethernet device, I fail to see how this would be possible.
Setting this up is fiddly because you have to configure the bridges to connect to an ABS via a MAC address.
And, the ABS must also be configured with the MAC address of the other devices in the WDS, but there are no provisions to do this.
If you want, I'll send you a link for MacTracker, which lists all models and specifications.
It might be possible to run ethernet from one of the other AirPorts, configure the dual ethernet version in "bridge mode" (if possible) and then have it create a wireless network. To be part of the "same" wireless network, it would need to be setup to use the same wireless network name, security and password as the "main" network.

  • Power for dual ethernet/snow airport

I have an old AirPort dual ethernet which I would like to lend to a friend who just got a MacBook but is currently using dial-up internet. The problem is that in it getting down off the shelf, I found three different power bricks, one 5V and two 12V. One of the two 12V power bricks has a light grey wire, which would be a better color match than the others. That is the only hint as none say "Apple."
What are the power requirements of this old AirPort?

  • Why does my Dual Ethernet Snow APBS not get an answer?

Sorry if my explanation of the problem was not clear, but the HD's are fine. I have checked them using fsck, disk warrior, TechTool Pro. they are fine. The drives are not showing up at all, and SATA shows "no information" Once in a while SATA will start working again briefly, then just GO AWAY! And the PCI SATA card I installed acts the same way. I am leaving one HD in the logicboard and one in the PCI card and they both go away (not the whole PCI card, just the HD).
    Thanks for the reply.
OK, since you are also having things go away with the PCI SATA controller, this could be a problem with either (a) PCI-X bridge or (b) the U3 Memory controller, as they are the two things in the chain between the CPU and where you are having the problems.
Do you have other PCI cards in use? If so, then if you lose contact with them, that would be a clue.
On the other hand, you seemed to indicate that even when the Tempo lost the HD, you could still see the Tempo in System Profiler? If the Tempo is still shown in profiler, then, we have a real mystery on our hands. Of course, a system log file wouldn't help because you have lost it, unless you are booting from an external FW drive.
    Watson, the game is afoot.

No. The Dual Ethernet AirPort base station (ABS) can not be used as a wireless client.

  • WDS with Airport express and Dual ethernet Airport base

Can the airport express and dual ethernet airport base create a wds? I can't find the options on the airport base's software.

coloradoapple, Welcome to the discussion area!
The Dual Ethernet (snow) AirPort base station (ABS) does not support WDS.
Only the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and AirPort Express (AX) support WDS.

  • Encore CS5.1, Issue burning onto 8.5GB DL DVD using WIndows 7, 64bit

Is anyone familiar with the inability of Encore CS5.1 to burn 8.5GB dual layer disc using Windows 7, 64bit.  After many failed attempts, it turns out that you need to set Encore as Windows XP compatability in order to get the disc to burn.  Is this just a glitch with Windows 7 + Adobe Encore CS5.1?
The problem with changes the compatability on Encore is that you lose the dynamic link with Premiere Pro CS5.5.
Any other suggestions on being able to burn without changing the compatability of Encore?
    btw, 4.7GB DVDs work fine.
    Thanks,
    Gianni (JohnQ)

To burn dual layer you MUST right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator from the popup window... this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account
I think you can select to "always" Run as Administrator from that popup window

  • Airport setup asst. doesnt work.  Is there way to use Windows to add airpor

Airport setup asst. doesnt work. Is there way to use Windows to add airport express to my current linksys network so that my iTunes will play through my stereo?
Previously the air-assit recognized the air-exp unit but kept asking for a password to continue. I tried passwords like admin and public but nothing worked. Then Windows network connections kept trying to connect my laptop to the internet using the air-exp. Don't remember what I did to fix that problem but now my laptop doesn't try using it to connect me to internet anymore.
However, now air-asst. doesn't read the air-exp anymore. Windows network connections DOES read it now but doesn't try to use it anymore to connect me to the internet.
I have a linksys WAP and separate linksys router. If memory serves, when I firt got the air-exp about 6 months ago I could not connect either and Apple tech support had to help me. I think, but not sure, they had me use Windows to add the air-exp to my wireless network. Also if my memory serves me, but not sure, I had to type in either some IP or MAC addresses in order to get the air-exp to connect to my existing network. I DO remember thinking after it was finally working that "Wow, this is definately NOT a plug and play thing." It wasn't very easy to set up.
I lost my laptops wireless connection last week and couldn't connect to my network and had to call linksys tech support. They had me input a new IP and DNS address because somehow my laptop "lost" the previous ones. Since then I have not been able to use my air-exp to connect to my stereo.
I have called Apple tech support but since my 90 days is up they want to charge me $49.95 for up to five days worth of tech support. Which I think is a rip off becau linksys will help you out at anytime for fee but that's a topic for another discussion group. Common Apple, how about a $10 charge for one day of tech support, or even just 15 minutes worth to get my gear working again?
Anyway, if anyone knows of any on-line walkthroughs of how to deal with these airport express set-ups or problems please let me know. Or, of course if anyone can walk me through this that would be even better. THANKS

    Thank you for your help.
When I run air-util a window called base station chooser comes up and all the fields are blank. When I push "re-scan" nothing happens. When I push "other" a window pops up asking for IP address and password. I typed in the IP address given to me from Linksys tech and tried to move on but it came back asking me to fill in the password. I tried the default linksys password "admin" but it came back with an error.
Do I hard (factory) reset the air-express by simply pushing the reset button or do I have to hold it in while I plug it in or simply push the button for a certain length of time?
    Thanks again.

  • Dual-booting OS X & Windows XP – Limited to 10.6 Snow Leopard?

I have an October 2008 vintage MacBook Pro 17-inch*, which will shortly be revitalised with an OCZ Vertex 4 512GB solid state drive, and with the boost in available disc space, I’m exploring options for dual-booting OS X and Windows.
    * Model ID: MacBookPro 4,1 – Order No: MB766LL/A – Mfg. Part No: A1261 – full spec at EveryMac:
    » http://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2.5-1 7-early-2008-penryn-specs.html
    I have installation discs for:
    • Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
    • Windows XP Home Edition SP2
My understanding is that the Boot Camp version in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard will allow me to set up dual-booting between these two OS versions. My natural geek instinct would be to upgrade OS X → 10.7 Lion → 10.8 Mountain Lion, but as I understand it the Boot Camp versions in 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion only support Windows 7.
    Q. Does this mean that if a successfully dual-booting ‘10.6 Snow Leopard + Windows XP’ MacBook Pro has its OS X upgraded (→ 10.7 Lion → 10.8 Mountain Lion), it will no longer dual-boot Windows XP?
BTW, I’m aware that I can run a virtualised Windows XP inside Oracle VM VirtualBox under OS X 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion (and other virtualisation software is also available); I’m interested in the reduced-complexity full-throttle option of dual-booting Windows XP.

To answer your question, I will give you 2 answers.  First off, it is not officially supported, so it may work, but if it doesn't you can't get support from Apple to make it work again.  Now that I have given the official answer, I will give you what I consider to be the "real answer".  I have not done this myself, but I have read from others that they have done just what you are looking to do.  I will add the warning that I have read from others that when they performed the upgrade, it did do something which caused the Boot Camp to stop working, and they could not get it to work again, so it seems to be a crap shoot.  Keep in mind that installing Lion or Mountain Lion wants to put a recovery partition on your boot volume, and Boot Camp only supports a total of 4 partitions on your MBP internal drive, so the EFI, MacOS, MBR, Boot Camp & Recovery partitions gives you too many partitions on the drive.  If you can perform the install without creating the Recovery partition, then you have a much better chance of it all working properly.

  • How to implement a dual booting PXI system using windows 7 and labview RT

    Good Day
My name is Mariano Ocana from the University of Manitoba, and I want to implement a dual system using windows 7 and labview RT in a PXIe-1082 chassis with a PXIe-8102 embedded controlled (the chassis came with windows 7 installed). What are the steps to use both systems (windows and RT)  in the same chassis?, in the NI help comes an example implementing a dual system using windows xp and RT, it is the same procedure?.
Thank you in advance for all your help.
    Regards
    M. Ocana

    Greetings, Mariano.
The real issue you have to contend with is whether or not you have a LabVIEW RT license.  If the 8102 controller was purchased Windows-Only, you likely do not have a license to run LabVIEW RT on the controller - you can purchase one, I think it's about $500, and at that point you can request a LabVIEW RT Configuration CD (that's not what it's called, but the sales guy will know what I'm talking about).  The Config CD is a CD that will partition your controller correctly with both FAT32 and NTFS filesystems (in the appropriate way) to allow you to run Windows 7 and LabVIEW Real-Time on the controller correctly.  Once done, you can then switch within the BIOS between LabVIEW Real-Time and Windows in order to dual-boot.
Either way, you likely need to contact NI sales to either purchase an RT license (if one was not received at the time of purchase) or to request a Configuration CD (it might also be called a dual-boot install CD or similar).

  • New Windows Setup Can Be Synced To Only the Last Used Windows Installation?

    Hello,
I have found out that Windows allows you to synchronize only with the last used Windows installation and does not allow you to choose to which of your Windows installations you want to synchronize. Why is that?
    Here's my experience.
    1. I installed Windows 10 TP for Enterprise and while in the Setup wizard chose to synchronize with the Windows installation that was last used to log in with the Microsoft account I specified during the setup of Windows 10 TP for Enterprise.
I had my appearance, Windows configuration settings and browser favorites successfully synchronized with the my laptop running Windows 8.1
    2. Then I installed another copy of Windows 10 TP for Enterprise. At that time the first setup of Windows 10 TP for Enterprise was the last Windows installation to use my Microsoft account.
When I was asked to what Windows PC I would like to synchronize I had no option to choose other than the last used Windows 10 TP for Enterprise that I had just deployed.
It would've been great if I could select from any of the PCs that I used to log in with my Microsoft account, like you could do in Internet Explorer that allows you to show recent visited websites for all of you registered PCs.
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

Yes, it downloaded all the emails and folders. I did some checking on the Gmail website and found a setting there for POP3: Download ALL, Download from this point forward, Disable POP. It defaults to download all. I changed it to Download from this point forward. That took care of the issue. Three steps are required for Gmail:
    1) Download TB and set the account to use POP instead of IMAP.
    2) Log on to your Gmail web account and go to Settings, Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
    3) Select Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.
After doing these steps, start Thunderbird and it should only receive new email messages.
I will mark the issue solved, but wanting to provide you what I learned to help others in the future. Thank You , Greg Nackers
