[SOLVED] Bash initial directory problem

Over the last couple of days, whenever I've opened any X virtual terminal (it doesn't do it when I ctrtl-alt-fX), it opened in a directory within my home directory, (namely the one I use for various programming projects), instead of the home directory. I thought that maybe if I removed that directory it might solve the problem, so I did, but apparently it didn't fix it, because now it outputs this:
shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory
It outputs a subtly different message (chdir instead of shell-init) when I cd into a different directlry. I looked through my .bashrc, .bash_profile and .Xresources and none of them had anything relating to directories.
Does anyone know how I could fix this?

Did you launch X in that directory?
sudo ls -dl /proc/$(pgrep Xorg)/cwd
Or maybe the program you use to launch the terminal (WM, xbindkeys, etc)?

COLUMNS is not defined in a normal script.
Now to find a solution ...
Edit: does "sourcing" the script work from an interactive session?
    e.g.
    ~$ ./test.sh

    $ . test.sh
    bash: 89: command not found

  • ITunes Directory Problem

I recently installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1 on to my laptop. After the install I can't open itunes. Now, I uninstalled service pack 1 and uninstalled Quicktime and iTunes. Now, after downloading the newest version of iTunes...it seems I have a directory problem.
The error msg reads: An error occurred while attempting to create the directory: C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\QuickTime 7.50.61.0
It was also saying the same thing about iTunes directory. I talked to people from apple and microsoft...nobody has an answer. I need help!
    Thanks in Advance,
    Adam

I agree that this is a huge problem. If the network directory isn't immediately found, iTunes reverts to its default. There may be other conditions under which this happens as well because it sometimes seems to occur even when the network drive should be visible. It causes huge headaches. My wife wants me to nix the network drive and just put all our music on our laptop--which is not something we should have to do in this year of 2007. They need to fix this. iTunes made my wife cry.

  • Any way of finding out how Apple will solve the Aperture / ACR problem?

Has anyone out there gotten any comments from Apple support or other people "in the know" about how Apple is going to solve the Aperture / ACR problem, and any potential time frame?
Of course, Apple is going to work on problems with its own RAW conversion; that goes without saying. But does anyone have any knowledge of whether Apple is going to open up the ability for Apple to send RAW, unconverted images to Photoshop, so that ACR can handle them?
I think knowing this now is pretty crucial. I am willing to live with the pain Aperture is going to impose on my workflow, in exchange for the file organization benefits it provides, IF I know that I'll be able to use Aperture with ACR soon (near term). But if Apple is going to just tinker with the RAW converter, and not attempt to send RAW files to ACR, then as someone else posted in another topic, this could be a long wait, and other companies have taken years to hone their RAW converters.
This is kind of my last-ditch effort to keep Aperture around, and build my workflow around it. If I know that within a month or two at the most, I'll be able to be using ACR directly when editing new versions, then I'll absorb the pain until then. But if I am looking at waiting six months for it (several man years), or riding out the process of Apple trying to get their own converter fixed, then as much as I don't want to, Aperture is going to get returned or hit eBay.
Does anyone have any idea on this? I've held up my projects for the past week trying to reorganize my workflow to work with Aperture, and I've got to pound the gavel, make a decision, and pursue a direction. Knowing what direction Apple is going to take with this makes all the difference in the world in what I do.
Thanks in advance for any info you can pass on.

This "Open External Editor from Master NEF", versus open from a dynamicaly created version is, I have decided, crucial.
I am getting less clumsy with the interface, but I simply can not get all white balance, and noise reduction done on my best available light shots.
ACR in CS2, and a subsequent "Neat Image" scrubbing is excellent for this.
The automatic association within a stack, of the resulting flattened file would be a big difference. I agree a formal statement from Apple would make me more inclined to really commit to Aperture for all my work.
Going one step further, it would be nice to keep the layers on the round-trip Master file, even if you would work with a dynamicaly created version of the returned "master" within a stack. It would occupy more disk space, but would do so only for those images where the user has made a quality decision.

  • Applet default directory problem

    Hi,
I have a directory problem when my applet write a file on client box (permissions OK),
the directory is always the window desktop!!!!
Is there a method to change the default directory??
    Thanks for your time,
    JC2001

    Hi,
Applets loaded into a Java-enabled browser can't write files.
Sun's appletviewer allows applets to write files that are named on the
access control list for writing. The access control list for writing is
    empty by default.
You can allow applets to write to your /tmp directory by setting the
acl.write property in your ~/.hotjava/properties file:
    acl.write=/tmp
You can allow applets to write to a particular file by naming it
    explicitly:
    acl.write=/home/me/somedir/somefile
    Use : to separate entries:
    acl.write=/tmp:/home/me/somedir/somefile
Bear in mind that if you open up your file system for writing by
applets, there is no way to limit the amount of disk space an applet
    might use.
I hope this will help you.
    Thanks

I've tried refreshing and repairing the catalog.  I've even started a new catalog and reimported the files.  The system says it's creating thumbnails but they still do not show up.  Does upgrading from Premiere Elements 12 to 13 solve the Organizer thumbnail problem?

    listiak
That is one of those questions best answered by evaluating Elements Organizer13 with your specific files in your specific computer environment.
Each of the Elements Organizer versions often appears to carry along its own baggage.
One of the things that came up about Elements Organizer 13 thumbnails recently was a problem with files with MPEG2
video compression. The Adobe word on this was that this is only an Elements Organizer 13 tryout issue...supposed not to exist
    in the purchased version.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome: initial working directory set to / instead of HOME

    Solved: See commentary #6
    Hi there,
Since some weeks ago, don't know what I touched, everything starts from the root directory instead of starting from the home directory. That is, file managers, consoles, emacs, etc. start always in the root directory when searching for a file. I don't know why!
I have HOME properly adjusted and if I write "cd" in a console I go to home. Is there any other variable that controls the directory to start with?
    Thanks
Last edited by jmcejuela (2009-07-05 11:17:13)

OK, I found the problem... quite stupid. I had all the commands that I typically use (I only use shortcuts, never the mouse) bound with gnome keybindings. Somehow the commands start with the working directory in /, and that was the problem.
    Solutions for Gnome:
    -Use another program for keybindings.
-A quite poor workaround. Create an executable to call your commands:
    #!/bin/bash
    cd && $1
and it will force the working directory to HOME
    -Gnome working properly??

  • Can't complete initial setup - Open Directory problems

"Easy to set up, easy to run" my big ***. On initial bootup, the automatic setup failed. "There may be a problem with the Open Directory." A few days later, it was suddenly working. So I set up and enjoyed one, count em, one user account. Then it stopped working again. I can't set up a Group. I can't use Workgroup Manager successfully, either. The whole server has been one big mess of fail.
Is this a common problem? Is there a fix? A workaround? Do I need to take this thing back??

Check this site out for starters
    http://www.wazmac.com/serversnetwork/fileservers/osxserversetup/index.htm
It's not just for schools, and it offers a lot of info on setting up OS X server.
It is possible that there is some hardware problem, but it's more likely that you need to setup the server correctly. If you're not familiar with OS X Server, it's not necessarily easy.

  • Initial setup and Open Directory problem

    Hi,
I'm new to the MAC OS X server system and trying to get one up and running on a G5.
Unfortunately I can’t get the configuration up and running, and I have the feeling it already goes wrong during the initial setup. I was hoping you guys could help me out.
The purpose of the server is providing network user accounts (DNS + Open Dir.) and providing sharepoints.
I go trough following steps while installing from scratch:
    - Install MAC OS X and run the Server install package from the OS X Server DVD (as you know, OSX Server is'n installing directly on G5)
    - Choose keyboard layout, enter license and create an account "admin"
    - Define static IP "192.168.1.1", add this IP as the first in the list of DNS Servers, add "company.local" in the search domain
    - Install as a standalone server (so I can configure dns & other network services after basic setup)
    - Check "network time server" (so time will be synced for Kerberos)
    - Proceed, install and reboot
OSX Server seems to be installed fine and I can login with "admin". Next step I take is configuring DNS.
    - create a zone "companyname.local.", use my IP as server address (192.168.1.1) and use "server" as the server name.
    - add a machine record for DNS-testing (called "gateway", with the IP of "192.168.1.254")
Start the DNS service and reboot
    - perform an nslookup with a second MAC with 192.168.1.1 as the nameserver and verify that DNS is resolving correctly.
DNS seems to be working fine, now I would like to get the Open Directory service to work:
    - change "Standalone" to "Open directory master" in the server configuration panel
    - provide a password for the directory admin
    - use "SERVER.COMPANYNAME.LOCAL" as kerberos realm, and "dc=server,dc=companyname,dc=local" as the search base
    - Save & start the service and perform a reboot to be sure all the new settings are in use
Unfortunately after this install open directory doesn't seem to work fine and also Kerberos doesn't start.
Concerning Kerberos: I get following output in the "Slapconfig log" Open Directory log file:
    Starting LDAP server (slapd)
    command: /usr/bin/ldapadd -c -x -D uid=root,cn=users,dc=maggie,dc=interesourcegroup,dc=local -w **
    Hostname server.companyname.local is from Rendezvous
    Skipping Kerberos configuration
Sorry to bother you with the entire walkthrough of the installation, but I have the feeling that I'm missing something while performing the basic install or DNS setup .. ?
    Regards,
    Seppe
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6) /

We currently have a static IP and a public dns hosted
by MediaTemple, so I think I can create a subdomain
on MediaTemple and link it to our fixed IP address
("private.companyname.com" >> static ip) instead of
    using dydns.. ?
    Of course.
I suppose I can then use "private.companyname.com" as
the zone name on my G5 server and use
    "server.private.companyname.com" for my local DNS?
    Sounds reasonable.
If using this DNS, what will be the Kerberos REALM
and Search Base? And do I still need to specify
private.companyname.com as the Search Base in the
Network Settings of the clients and server?
Well, REALM and LDAP Search Base can set to whatever you like. On the other hand I've seen tools contacting kerberos servers break when the REALM is not part of the kerberos server fqdn.
So I'd stick with the usual recomandations and set kerberos REALM to your domain name (if there is no other kerberos server alread running and using this).
For the LDAP search domain I'd also follow the road of using domain name space as search base.
When dns will finally be setup properly, these setting will be autopopulated for you in the GUI. So test, test, test you dns with
host $ip and host $fqdn and then go on promoting "Standalone Server" to "Open Directory Master".

  • [SOLVED] bash expansion problem

I have a partial file name, suppose file=night
I want to find files having similar names with *$file*
since given file names can contain spaces, the search string should be '*$file*'
    so I do q=\'  and string=$q*${file}*$q
    echo $string produces '*night*'
    but when I do
find <location> -iname ${string} , string expands to ''\''*night*'\''' and I get no search output.
If string is assigned like string='*night*', it works; but if string="'*night*'" it doesn't (although echo produces expected output).
I need the single quote encapsulation because there maybe spaces in the file name.
    EDIT: Even "find <location> -iname $(echo "$sstring")" doesn't work.
Basically, when string doesn't have quotes embedded in it, it works. Otherwise not.
    I'm looking for a solution..
Here's the script and the output if you need.
    Thanks.

Solution : redeploying the BPEL process or restarting SOA suite will affect BPEL process with the changes in rules repository.

    Hi everybody,
Wondering if we could categorize a little bit so that we can put together some kind of tech-note. So far i have seen the following errors:
    1. Something along
at line 3 column 1 in main
Caused by: FactClassException: fact class for 'loanoffer.LoanApplicationType' should be declared earlier in rule session
at line 3 column 1 in main
This one is usually caused by a RL function having above fact class as one
of its parameters. The workaround to avoid this is either use 'loanoffer.LoanApplication' as the parameter type or enable 'assertXPath' for the fact 'loanoffer.LoanApplicationType'.
    2. Something like (see above)
<2007-04-27 18:39:14,928> <ERROR> <oracle.bpel.services> <::> Internal error: Function assert-object: error in call: Jess reported an error in routine DefinstanceList.definstance
    while executing (assert-object duvalCounty.StudentImpl@795486).
Message: Object is not instance of duvalCounty.StudentImpl.Jess reported an error in routine DefinstanceList.definstance
    while executing (assert-object duvalCounty.StudentImpl@795486).
This usually indicates a classloader issue in the decision service itself and it can
happen if you put the fact class files into some directory which is in the classpath
    of BPEL PM (like ?/bpel/system/classes)
I'm following up with "soruganti" on the second issue (the one originally posted)
and we'll post the outcome here.
Juan: Can you confirm that the issue you're seeing is one of above (1.) or (2.) ?
    Any stack trace available ?
Nevertheless i'm sure it is somehow unrelated to patch p5665750.
    Best Regards,
    Ralf
