Specific Setup for My Computer?

Howdy all,
I've been reading all sorts of recommendations on how to setup your scratch disks in premiere and all I seem to find is a bunch of varying opinions from what seems to be very knowledgeable sources.  It seems that scratch disk setup is somewhat dependable on your specific system.
So I was hoping I could tell y'all exactly what I'll be working with and maybe get some good recommendations.  I've just recently installed Premeire Pro CS6 and have played around with some dinky sequences and videos just to familiarize myself with the program more but I would really like to get all my settings tweaked to the most efficient modifications before I start any real projects that will be saved.
Forgive me if anyone feels this question has already been answered elsewhere, but after days of reading I came to the understanding that some of the broad, generic answers seemed ambiguous to someone who isn't the best at figuring out technical situations.
Ok, so here's what I'm working with, and I'm already aware that it isn't the "ideal" computer but it's what I've got to work with and I think it will be sufficient for my amateurish/hobbyist needs:
My computer is an:
ASUS U52F-BBL9
System Type:  x64-based PC
Processor:  Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU  m 460 @ 2.53 GHz  2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
RAM:  4.00 GB  (But I'm in the process of upgrading to 8 GB, which means I might have more questions in future)
Hard Drive:  500 GB (450 GB is free space)
OS: Windows 7
I also have 1 external USB 3.0 Hard Drive 1 TB (Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex) but I use it with my USB 2.0 ports
Should I utilize my external hard drive, or save everything directly to my computer.  And if I should use both hard drives, how should I divide them up.  The scratch disk tab gives options to save to 4 differenet locations, a place for:
Captured Video, Captured Audio, Video Previews, Video Audio Previews
All most all the files I will be working with will be imported video filed that come from my non-HD video camera or other various video files.  A very small amount of the video I will be working with will be captured from my very old mini-DV camcorder.
I already know some video geniuses will jump on this and set me straight, so thanks in advance.
PS- unrelated
Also, I am currently on the free trial I downloaded and will need to purchase before the end of this month.  I was hoping to purchase the disc version vs downloaded version and was wondering if I could just use the registration info and serial numbers from my box to activate the already installed CS6 on my computer, or will I have to uninstall then reinstall the new box version.

Dear Harm or somebody else,
I've been studying the chart and posts on the thread you suggested and remember reading over it before.  One reason I was hesitant to just accept it and go with the reccomendatins was because I wasn't sure if the "2 Disk System" recommendations you are advising are for internal hard drives only or can be adopted for my USB external hard drive also.
Some other websites suggest using my portable hard drive, others say if it's only a USB 2.0 I'm probably better off just using my internal hard drive. Also, I'm embarrased to admitt it, but much of the terminology in the the chart, notes, and threads are Greek to me.
So forgive me if this is rude for lack of effort on my end, but if you do recommend using my external hard drive in the "2-Disk" setup, and you were on my computer starting a new project in CS6 right now, what disk would you set the following drop down options to on the Scratch Disk Tab:
Captured Video - Default = Same as Project
Captured Audio - Default = Same as Project
Video Previews - Default = Same as Project
Audio Previews - Default = Same as Project
Should I leave everything default, change it all to my portable hard drive, some of it to portable hard drive, or what?
And also, I'm not sure what Media Cache and Page Files Are or if they're relevant in my situation.
Sorry to keep bothering y'all with these stupid questions but I've been reading for the last week advice about this from all over the internet so I'm just gonna take whatever info I get from this last post and make it work even if it is baffling to my Premeire-ignorant brain. Thanks

  • HT4918 iCloud setup for a computer on a server

I made the move to iCloud on my laptop and successfully synced my iPad, iPhone, & laptop. However, when attempting to do the same on my work computer, I've had some difficulties that even our IT people are struggling with finding a solution. I have a PC running Windows 7 and on it are a local account, on which iCloud/Control Panel worked fine but does not contain the rest of my work-related files. The same computer houses my user account on the work-related server ("ad server"). When attempting to sign in to the iCloud Control Panel to set up iCloud for that account, all I get for a response is the "thinking" icon that never goes away nor allows me to get into the actual setup. A previous conversation with Apple support suggested it was a server issue. However, when our IT person tried to logon to the same iCloud Control Panel on my "server account", he was able to do so successfully, bringing up the setup screen for iCloud. To me, that would argue against it being a server-related problem. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling a few times. He also tried a few other things that seemed to resolve similar issues with Dropbox for others but did not fix this problem. Any thoughts on what may be the problem and, hopefully, how I can fix it?

    You have 2 options:
    1)  Ensure in all cases "store email on the server" is set.  I suspect on one device it's not set.
    2) (preferred IMO) On all devices, set option to bcc: yourself to true.  This way you always get all the emails and can file them via IMAP, and they'll be everywhere (with mail headers which preserves sent date.  "sent messages" often DOES NOT preserve the sent date)

  • Why aren't there Windows 7 (64 bit) specific drivers for my HP color LaserJet 3600n printer?

Why doesn't HP support its own printers by providing drivers for a very stable operating system?  I've been a longtime HP laser customer...since 1984 laser I.  I would like to use drivers for my color LJet 3600n which were specifically written for my computer's operating system.
Does anyone know where there are Windows 7 (64 bit) drivers for the HP color LaserJet 3600n printer?  Do I have to purchase Brother or Canon or Lexmark printers to get support?

Oh, you must not be on the English US site.  Basically it says to use the Vista driver and gives a link to it.  That is as good as it gets at this point, sorry.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • I'm looking for a computer with these specifications, can anyone help me?

I need to know if anyone can give me the names of a few laptops that have these MINIMUM specifications:
Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64 Processor or any better processor
    4 GB of RAM
    Windows 7
1280 X 800 or more with qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics card, 16 bit color, and 256MB of dedicated VRAM (not Shared Memory)
Graphics support for Shader Model 3.0, and OpenGL 2.0, DirectX 9-capable graphics card.
    DVD-drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs, Read/Write drive
    QuickTime 7.6.2 or newer
I'm going to an art school, and will probably be getting into some Graphic Design stuff, so if you don't know a computer that has a lot of these specific terms, could you give me perhaps a few names of good laptops for art students to buy?

    Hello Balkoth,
I work for Intel and aside from this being my job, I'm going to tell you to consider investing in a stronger processor. If you are going to be getting into Graphic Design, you will need more processing power. For your needs, I would suggest looking into the new Intel® Core™ i7 processor.
This is our top-of-the-line processor, ahead of the curve and will continue to perform as technologies continue to emerge. Not only will you have graphics support for Shader Model 3.0, and OpenGL 2.0, DirectX 9-capable graphics cards, but the i7 has Turbo Boost Technology (Speeds up your processor when you computer needs more performance) and  Hyper-Threading Technology (multitasking that allows your computer to work on two tasks at the same time). Even if you don't need all of these features now, you never know what you will need down the line. My general rule of thumb is to never buy something that is already behind the curve.
I would also recommend you looking into our other smart processors, i3 and i5, but I believe the i7 will be the best for your processing needs. Here is a couple computers I found with i7 processors and Windows 7 that you were looking for. Hope this helps!

  • Best Setup for Lion Server Time Machine Backup with Drobo?

I've been thinking about this a lot, yet I don't feel I have a good solution for this, so I'm going to throw it out to the community.
I have a home server setup using a Mac Mini running Lion Server 10.7.2 with a Firewire 800 Drobo attached.  The Drobo is used for both Time Machine backups and files.  I also have a Powerbook G4 running Leopard and a MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Lion 10.7.2 which connect to the Server and the Drobo wirelessly thorugh an Airport Extreme.
I want to use Time Machine to have all of my computers back up to the server & Drobo, but realize there are several ways to go, each with their pluses and minuses:
    Server Time Machine Backup:
+ Centralizes backup process, rules, and other elements
+ Currently Mac Mini is backing up to the Drobo correctly using this process
+ Have setup size limit on Server backup so that it does not eat up file space
    - Would combine laptop backups with server backup into one sparse image: this would lead to the computer with the largest backup needs taking up too much space
    Client-Driven Time Machine Backup:
+ Allows for customization of backup processes by computer
+ Can setup specific space requirements for each computer
+ Backups are separate from each other
    - Wireless backup from laptops to Drobo is not functioning currently
Any thoughts or experiences on how best to set this up?  I tend to do most of my work on the MacBook, hence I am concerned about it having it's backup space eaten up by the server, but that may be more of a theoretical issue than a real one.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Well I'm not sure if I am following you but I will explain how I set mine up. When I got the Drobo I inserted 2 drives and selected the highest available volume I could (16TB). My drives are 4 TB each and I knew I would soon add 2 more. Then Drobo did its thing and prepared these drives. The Drobo shows up on my mini desktop as an external drive. When I log into my server from my other computer I can see the mini server volume and the Drobo volume. I can access each no problem. They act as regular volumes. Soon after I added the second two drives and everything stayed the same meaning I could still see and access the Drobo on the desktop of my mini. So it sounds like you used the Drobo dashboard to partition yours for two volumes? Are they both showing on the desktop?
"Maybe the Drobo needs to be mounted on the desktop to be considered AFP feature enabled." I could be wrong and hopefully someone will correct me but I think the Drobo (or volumes) have to be mounted on the desktop to work with AFP.

  • Firefox is not loading specific websites for me. Sites like Facebook, Ebay, Google, and Netflix refuse to open, or even acknowledge me pressing the Enter key

Firefox is not loading specific websites for me. Sites like Facebook, Ebay, Google, and Netflix refuse to open, or even acknowledge me pressing the Enter key when I type in the address or click a link to that site. Practically every other site works perfectly fine. I did not change any settings or download any new addons prior to this problem, it just started happening. I have done everything I can find in the forums; resetting firefox, clearing cache and cookies, making network settings use no proxy, reinstalling, and today I uninstalled Firefox, updated and scanned my computer with all 3 software I use (AVG, Malwarebytes, and Spybot), found no issues, restarted my computer, and reinstalled a freshly downloaded Firefox setup without importing any settings or doing anything other than a totally clean install, and still nothing. Chrome and IE still are able to access every site perfectly fine. I have no idea what the issue is or how to fix it, as I've tried everything I know and could research.

    Hi There,
Sorry to hear of your issue. I found a great article for you to read and explain how to fix your issue. I hope this hope :)

  • Easy setup for capturing 12 bit Hi8 through a mini DV camera?

    Hi,
I have some old Hi8 tapes that are recorded in 12 bit audio. Unfortunately the easy setup for a converter doesn't seem to let you specify 12 bit audio, so I'm getting awful sync problems. I know I could record all the footage onto mini DV tapes, but is there an alternative? Is there any way of adding an easy setup that would do what I want?
    Mark
    Dual 2.5 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   FCE 3.5HD

If you just use the MiniDV camera in passthrough mode, it will work fine. The audio out of the Hi8 should be analog, which specifies no specific bit depth. So as long as you have your MiniDV set up to 16bit, that's what it will send to the computer.

  • Office 2013 RMS Client Configuration - Your Machine is not setup for IRM

    Hi All,
I have successfully setup a test AD RMS farm but stuck at trying to configure Office 2013 to work with this. The farm configuration is as below
    DC: Windows 2003
AD RMS Server: Windows 2008/ SQL Server 2008 R2
Client: Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2013 32 bit, Domain Joined
Client is domain joined and SCP has been successfully registered ( I can see the SCP in AD RMS properties).
When I open word and select Protect Document -> Restrict Access, the only option is to Connect to RMS Server and get template, which eventually gives an error
Your Machine isn't setup for Information Rights Management (IRM). To set up IRM, sign in to office, open an existing IRM protected message or document, or contact your help desk.
Surprisingly, when I open a document protected by IRM (from a different machine), IRM is automatically configured for the user and starts working from that point. However any new domain user login into this client faces the same issue.
Can anyone help identify the required registry keys that need to be present for getting this working on the client.
    Thanks for your help

  • How to apply a specific music for each photo slideshow

I'd like to setup a specific music for a specific photo slideshow, and to store that preferences, in some way, so that, on selecting a slideshow, automagically startup the specific song.
    Is it possible ?
    Seems not ... yet.

You can do that by preparing the slideshow in iphoto instead of on the tv, you then have to ensure you sync the slideshow and the tunes you have used in the slideshow before playing it on the tv.

  • How do I install software (specifically Office for Mac) on a MacBook Air?

How do I install software (specifically Office for Mac) on my MacBook Air?  Thanks.

    Q7: How do I activate?
A7: To activate the product, follow these steps:
    1. Launch application and click Enter your product key.
    2. Review the Software License Agreement and click Continue.
    3. You must agree to Software License Agreement. Click Continue.
    4. Enter your product key and click Activate. The Activation Wizard automatically contacts the Microsoft licensing servers through your Internet connection. When you activate the product by using the Internet, the product key is sent to Microsoft through an encrypted transfer. If you decide to activate the product through the Internet and you are not already connected, the wizard alerts you that there is no connection. Click either Activate by Phone or Activate later.  Note Do not lose the product key. Keep the packaging, or note the number. Keep the number information in a safe location.  Your product key is a unique sequence of 25 letters and numbers divided into groups of 5.  If you purchased a box with a DVD: The product is located on the back of the Office for Mac DVD sleeve.  If you purchase through a web site: The product key is sent to you in email with the title Microsoft Office for Mac – Order Confirmation”
    5. If the activation is successful, you receive the following message:
Your copy of <product title> is now activated.
If for any reason the Activation fails, click Activate by phone. Select your location and then dial the phone number on the screen. For example, for United States: 1866-825-4797 or United Kingdom: (44)-(203)-147-4930. You can telephone an Activation Center to obtain the help of a customer service representative and activate the product. Telephone activation might take longer than activation through the Internet. You should be at the computer when you call. Additionally, you should have your software product key. When you select this option, the Activation Wizard generates an Installation ID. You musy have this Installation ID to activate the product by telephone.
Important When you telephone the Activation Center, you are prompted to read the Installation ID numbers.
Note Activation Center numbers are not listed for all locations in this article because telephone contact numbers vary by license and also by country or region. The Activation Wizard gives you the number to telephone the Activation Center.

  • Don't know what install disks to buy for new computer

I bought a computer from ebay with not install disks thinking I would buy those seperately. The computer I bought is a iMac G5 machine model PowerMac 8.2, Cpu PowePC GF (3.0). It currently has OS X 10.4.11 Installed. I do not have adminstrator rights and the only way I know to get them is to reinstall the OS. So, I tried to do so with disks I had on hand for mac OS X 4.8 but I got a message saying these were not the correct disks for the computer. The problem is I don't know which ones are to buy them. If someone could help with this, or any other ways of getting the administrator password for this computer I would certainly appreciate. it.

Upgrade Tiger discs were not machine specific, so if you had Panther installed then you could upgrade to Tiger with a Tiger Upgrade disc. However, the Tiger Upgrade disc does not support Archive and Install or Erase and Install. They cannot be used to install Tiger on an erased drive. You must have Panther installed to use the upgrade disc. You would be much better off getting the Tiger retail package.
I say again that you want to avoid purchasing any OEM disc that claims to be a "universal" Tiger installer as these are usually machine specific. The Tiger upgrade disc has a black label with a large gray "X" and the word "Upgrade" is on the label.

  • How to Make installer for one Computer ?

    Hello All,
I want to make application installer only for one computer, like single license copy how it is possible in LabWindows/CVI ?
Is there any LabWindows build-in option or how it will possible ?
    Regards

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I don't think there is a bult-in capability to create an installer that will run on a single PC, but you can incorporate in your application instructions on some hardware item of the target system and create your own licensing algorithm on them.
This subject has already been discussed in this forum: you can look at this thread and this other one.
In the last page, I mention a sample of mine which is available on the Community: I have updated it to retrieve the disk serial number also, as it can be useful to get a unique sign for a specific PC; the sample uses WMI to get system infos: you can find the modified version attached to this message. You need full CVI version to run the sample.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.
