Standby Sup synchronization verification

My redundant supervisor crashed sometime back. The following error was observed
%SYS-3-SYS_LCPERR3:Module 2: Bus Asic #0 out of sync error:
Module requires attention - troubleshoot or contact TAC for assistance
This problem was resolved later.
My question is how do i verify that my standby sup will function properly when the active one fails? This is a production network, can't bring it down for testing.
I tried to verify if the bootflash in module 2 had synchronized with the image in the active sup using the command
show flash 2/bootflash:
But this command gives me the message File system in use (8). Try again later.
Is this normal? should i be concerned?
Is there any other way to check if the standby sup will function properly in the event of the primary failing

Hello,
From the output you're seeing from the dir 2/bootflash: it appears that the bootflash is being locked by another process. I've provided a sample of the same outputs for your review from another switch to compare.

  • Gig 1/1 interface on a standby Sup 2 card active?

    Hi,
My 2 6513s each have 2 Sup 2 cards in them. The slot 1 Sup card in both 6513s is the active one and Gi1/1 on each connects the 2 6513s together.
Tonight I want to pull the active Sup 2 card from the secondary 6513. If I move the cable in the secondary 6513 from Gi1/1 to Gi2/1, will I still have connectivity between the 2 6513s?
In other words, are the interfaces on the standby Sup 2 card available for use when the card is in standby mode or does it only work when it becomes active?
The configuration of ports 1/1 and 2/1 of the 2nd 6513 are below.
Also, is there a document that delineates how these 2 Sup cards on these 2 6513s should be configured for highest availability (ie. Sup card failure on either 6513)? I looked high and low on Cisco's Web site but could not find one.
    Thanks, Ian.

the GB interfaces on the standby 6500 supervisor are active, even if the sup is in standby mode.
configure your switch to use the 1/2 GB interface and make the link connection. verify the link is up and you can pass traffic.
then you can adjust your 1/1 interface without causing downtime.
(if you create an etherchannel of the two, this will allow you to remove 1/1 and not lose any connectivity)
for high availability, i use the practice of:
    switch1-sup1 gb 1/1 >> switch2-sup2 gb 1/1
    switch1-sup1 gb 1/2 >> switch2-sup1 gb 1/2
    switch1-sup2 gb 1/1 >> switch2-sup1 gb 1/1
    switch1-sup2 gb 1/2 >> switch2-sup2 gb 1/2
this allows for a fully meshed configuration for highest available redundancy.

  • Sup synchronization multiple groups issur

    Hi all,
I try to synchronize one group synchronization from my sup 1.5.5 project.
I have anohers mbo on diferents sync grous that I don't need sync.
When I execute the following code in java:
    MYPDB.snchronize("mygroup1")
All synchronization groups has been synchronized.
    Any idea experts?
    Tnks in advance

    Hello,
I don't have any relationship between the MBOs. I should have mentioned before.
I totally understand how when we hae realationship both BAPI will get called.
The 2 BAPI MBO's are ondemand MBOs.
and also i don't see how we an use online cache policy with "findbyParameter" for BAPI MBO's.

  • Performance in SUP Synchronization

    Hellow Partners!
Is Synchronization with a single device made with just one thread?
The thread Count default is 10 the recomended for prodution environment is 24.
each on this threads deal with only one device or is like a pool and they all contribute for the synchonization if needed?
    Thanks in Advance.

Memory usage depends mainly on WHAT is processed, and partly by WHICH means it is processed.
So if you process a lot of data, it possible to lead nearly every report to dump.
Your information is much to poor to say more.

  • How to set boot variable for standby Sup2 in 6500?

I'm upgrading a 6500 with dual Sup2. Have copied the new boot image and system image to both bootflash and slavebootflash. Have also set new boot statements for the active Sup.
However couldn't set the boot variables for the standby Sup. Do I need to? Will the boot statements in the startup config take care both Sup's?
    Thanks
    Gary

If you do a wr mem, it should synchronize. You can verify using sh bootvar. Here is outputs from my lab
    Router#sh bootvar
    BOOT variable = sup-bootflash:c6sup22-jsv-mz.121-26.E3,1
    CONFIG_FILE variable =
    BOOTLDR variable =
    Configuration register is 0x2102
    Standby is up
Standby has 227328K/34816K bytes of memory.
    Standby BOOT variable = sup-bootflash:c6sup22-jsv-mz.121-26.E3,1

  • IBCM Software updates, Do I need an Internet SUP or not?

    Hi,
A quick description of our current setup (relevant bits at least):
    Site server
Windows Server 2012 R2 with ConfigMgr 2012 R2 C3 primary site, with intranet client only SUP
    DMZ server
Windows Server 2012 R2 with MP and DP roles installed (no SUP)
I'm able to manage internet clients, apply policies and deploy software (both apps and packages). So I know my IBCM setup works
    Here's is the issue:
I'm unable to deploy software updates to internet clients.

I can see the primary site server, which happens to be the only SUP on the hierarchy is still being referenced.
It is my understanding that internet clients will default to downloading updates from windows update when "if software updates are note available on preferred distribution point or remote distribution point, download content from microsoft updates"
enabled in the deployment settings (see screenshot below).
My question is: Am I missing something? do I need to deploy a SUP on the DMZ site system? If so... will this DMZ SUP synchronize according to the settings defined on the site settings?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

You can have both, btw.  Configure your GPO with a filter so it only applies a WSUS point if the SCCMExec isn't detected.  More info can be found here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2013/03/27/group-policy-preferences-and-software-updates-in-cm2012sp1.aspx
This way any clients without a SCCM agent still honor the GPO for updates but the GPO effectively stops "fighting" with the installed agent once it gets installed.
Also, I'm pretty sure you still need an internet facing SUP.  THe checkbox you are playing with is only for downloading the patches ... not for detecting what patches are needed:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712701.aspx
    "New
in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, when you have a software update point that is configured to accept connections from the Internet, Configuration Manager Internet-based clients on the Internet always scan against this software update
point, to determine which software updates are required. However, when these clients are on the Internet, they first try to download the software updates from Microsoft Update, rather than from an Internet-based distribution point. Only if this fails, will
they then try to download the required software updates from an Internet-based distribution point. Clients that are not configured for Internet-based client management never try to download the software updates from Microsoft Update, but always use Configuration
    Manager distribution points."

  • Best practise to change new SUP on 6509

Best practise to change new SUP on 6509, currently we have dual sup. is it we need to power down the switch and install ne sup?

    Hi,
Below are few methods which you can choose:
It really depends on which Sup you want to replace ( I mean the one which is currently Active or the Standby sup).
    Lets go step by step:
1st-- Think you want to replace the Standby Sup in the working chasis:
Answer: You need not have to worry, just remove the Standby Sup and install the new sup , Make sure the standby sup is running the same software version which Active has.
    2nd- Replacing the Active Sup:
Answer: To avoid any distruption, failover to the Standby Sup so that the STandby Sup takes over the active role and then proceed with replacing the Active Sup.
Few reference which  might help you:

  • SUP failed over manually, voice service failed after FAILOVER, started accessing old voice vlan which was removed from config

    Hey guys,
I am pretty sure, my subject is kinda confusing. Sorry about that. Here is what happened.
    1. 4510r with Supervisor V 1000BaseX, switched over to standby Sup, then reseated Active SUP, once reseat complete, switched again to get the reseated SUP up and running as Active SUP.
    2. a simple maintenance which was supposed to cause no outage and it did not cause any outage as well.
    3. however, what i did not notice was, even though the voice vlan was configured to access 2353, they were accessing vlan 453.
    4. the change was made 2 weeks prior to this maintenance where voice vlans were previously accessing 453 and they were all changed to access 2353. configs were saved.
    5. however, after the maintenance, the running config showed that they were acessing 2353 but when checking the mac address on the interface, it was seen accessing 453.
    6. the fix was to remove the config and re add it , that fixed it.
Has anyone else experienced the issue ? What really happened there ?

  • Question on 4510E+R with Sup7E, redundant sups, both IOS and ROMMON upgrade

I found the procedure for a non-disruptive IOS upgrade for a dual-Sup7E 4510E+R using the...
    redundancy reload peer
    redundancy force-switchover
.....commands to maintain switch availability during IOS upgrades.
Can I use the same procedure for a ROMMON upgrade? I will not have console access and must do it remotely.
    This is what I have:
    Current ROM: 15.0(1r)SG5
    Current IOS: bootflash:cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.03.02.SG.151-1.SG2.bin
This is where I want to go:
    New ROMMON: cat4500-e-ios-promupgrade-150-1r-SG11
    New IOS: cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.04.05.SG.151-2.SG5.bin
    config-register is currently 0x2102
    Current bootvar:
    boot system flash bootflash:cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.03.02.SG.151-1.SG2.bin
    Questions:
    1) Can I upgrade the ROMMON first, then IOS?
    2) If #1 is true, is there any problems with a temporary scenario where each Sup is running a different ROMMON version?
    Proposed proceedure:
3a) Upgrade ROMMON on standby Sup
3b) switchover to make the standby active
3c) Upgrade ROMMON on the original active Sup
3d) Upgrade IOS on the original active Sup
3e) switchover to make the original Sup active
3f) Upgrade IOS on the original standby Sup.
    Thanks for any feedback.

    Hi Eric,
There are 2 ways to upgrade:
1-Load the IOS version you want to both Sups, change the boot variable, so the switch can load the new IOS after the reboot and finally reboot the chassis.
    2-Use ISSU  see link:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4500-series-switches/prod_white_paper0900aecd806f0663.html
As for the ROMMON, you usually don't need to upgrade it often and you can always do that later if you need to.  I think, some of the newer versions of IOS upgrade the ROMOM as well as the main image but I am not sure exactly for what platforms.

  • Sup 720 unlabelled Red LED

I have a pair of 6513s with a pair of Supervisors in each and on one of the standby (Sup 720) front panel is a RED LED. This LED has no label and is just to the left of the Console port. I have checked reference documents and this LED is not mentioned? Any idea? Thanks

    Hi
I feel the sup mite have got stuck up in rommon prompt and requires manual boot command to boot it up..
once it gets booted up check out the valid ios file in the disk0 or disk1 and configure the boot system command accordingly.
once you are thru with that save the config and check with show bootvar to verify whether the changes got replicated or not..

  • Status of 10 GE port on redundant SUP V

    Hi
I have to install many 4500 with 2 core 6500. 6500 is having 10 GE module while 4507R only have 10 GE on its 2 SUP(WS-X4516-10GE), now i have to run OSPF between these switches also.
I would be connecting 1 10GE port on active SUP on 4507R to 10GE module on 6500 and other 10GE port on standby SUP of 4507R to other 6500 10GE module.
My q. here is does 10GE ports remain active on a standby SUP also, as otherwise i would not be able to use port on standby SUP.

When two Supervisor Engine V-10GEs are present in a Catalyst 4510R or Catalyst 4507R switch, one 10G uplink is active on the primary (active) and one on the secondary (standby) supervisor engine by default, or two uplinks will be active in a nonredundant configuration.

  • State of "OTHER" for Standby Sup2 Card in CAT 6500

What does the state of "OTHER" on the standby Sup2 card in a CAt6500 mean. Reseating the card did not resolve the issue. Is it possible to connect a console directly onto this standby supervisor card and get any information at all - for example to find if the card is sitting at ROMMON or some such thing.

Sure. You can console into the standby Sup(it will be disabled only if the Standby has fully booted and if it in standby).
It might be a good idea to monitor the boot up sequence when you reseat it.

  • How do you find the mac address for the Standby Supervisor

sho int mgmt0 works for the active but how do I get it for the standby on a Gen1 c9509 running 3.3.(1c) ?

    I figured it out.
sho module x (where x is the slot number of the standby sup.) Here's the output:
    The Standby Supervisor
    switchname1# sho module 6
    Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status
    6 0 Supervisor/Fabric-1 DS-X9530-F1-K9 ha-standby
    Mod Sw Hw World-Wide-Name(s) (WWN)
    6 3.3(1c) 4.0 --
    Mod MAC-Address(es) Serial-Num
    6 00-0e-38-c5-bc-80 to 00-0e-38-c5-bc-84 JAB00000000
    The Active Supervisor
    switchname1# sho module 5
    Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status
    5 0 Supervisor/Fabric-1 DS-X9530-SF1-K9 active
    Mod Sw Hw World-Wide-Name(s) (WWN)
    5 3.3(1c) 4.0 --
    Mod MAC-Address(es) Serial-Num
    5 00-0e-38-c5-bf-64 to 00-0e-38-c5-bf-68 JAB00000001
The output is much nice on my ssh session.

  • EFSU and quad-sup

    Hello,
I need help on this. I have two Cisco Catalyst 6807 with quad sup 2T.  I'm trying to upgrade to latest IOS with the following procedure :
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/15-1SY/config_guide/sup2T/15_1_sy_swcg_2T/enhanced_fast_software_upgrade_efsu.html
    I'm upgrading from IOS 151-2.SY1 to 151-2.SY2.
    So I'm doing this :
    # issu loadversion bootdisk:s2t54-adventerprisek9-mz.SPA.151-2.SY2.bin
At this point, the standby-ICS sup reboot fine with the new IOS.
Then the standby sup reboots and after several minutes I always get this :
    * %ISSU_PROCESS-SW1-3-ABORT: Starting abort sequence, reason: LOADVERSION: New Standby has failed to respond
At this point, the process fail and do a rollback.
So my question is, does eFSU supports quad-sup ?
    Thanks

    Hi Richard,
i dont think the whole switch will go down since it falls back to Chassis A Supervisor 2 and Chassis B supervisor 2 will be VSS standby Sup and Inchassis active for Chassis 2.
Please read the Supervisor Switchover Events under the below link for a better understanding.

  • Nexus 7000 console port doesnt work both sup's

I have an odd issue... I have one nexus 7k where I cannot get signal from either sup console port... I have another 7k totally fine.. I can't see anything different in the config and I don't have them broken up into vdc's either they are just 1 vdc so it's pretty simple.  it's almost like the console is shut off and the odd thing is its both cards.  Any help appreciated
    anything I can check?

Are you using any type of telnet connection? I see that you say that the configs aren't different. That informs me that you were able to see the CLI at one time. Are you able to see the CLI when connecting directly to the console port from your PC?
It could also be the baud rate of the telnet program you are using. Make sure you are using the default baud rate for the Sup model you are using.
Also are you using the same Sup's? Once you push in the sups, one will be the active and one will be standby. If you are connected to the standby sup you will not be able to type any commands, but it will inform you in the hostname that it is the standby sup.
    Hope this helps.
