Supressing the "Inside this Community" + Subcommunity" + "Related Community" tabs

I read the discussion thread on "How to hide the page links of a community on the 5.0.2 portal" and I looked at the UI Source code for "NavigationCommSectionDropDownView".
And I was wondering about which portion of that code should be disabled/altered to completely suppress the "Inside this Community" navigation tab along with the "subcommunity" and "related community" tabs below it.
We need to create a community that doesn't have any navigation scheme. We will create our own and need to suppress the 'out of the box' navigation scheme.

The community section menu will not show up at all when Removed from a NavType. If you want it to show up for only certain communities you would not change the NavType class but instead add logic into the view's (NavigationCommSectionDropDownView or NavigationCommSectionComboBoxView located in the view folder under the NavType file) Display method to only display the menu for specific communities by checking community IDs. Instead of hardcoding the IDs in the code you could put them in NavigationSettings.xml and get them for there with the NavigationCommonHelpers.GetNavSettingsValueX methods.

Inside this community and page bar

We are getting some complaints that after the portal page is drawn, the page jumps. What is actually happening is the portlets are drawn on the page prior to the Inside this community area being displayed. When that area is displayed it takes up more room than was initially allocated for the div I guess. That causes the rest of the page to be pushed down. Is there a way to set the size of this div to be as wide as the navigation will be when it finally displays? Is this done with a div? Which view in the api controls this functionality? Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks, Berney

ah yes! that makes sense!
The better option then would be to go the CSS route and just not show the image.
If you look at your source for the page you should see a span tag (navTabText) just before the community icon.
You can piggyback on that class in this fashion:
#navTabText img{display:none;}
if you add that to whatever your css file is that should work.
I'm not a css person so I might have the syntax off a bit.
albeit you should test this out because no telling what else might be impacted by such an addition!

Not clear on what you mean. If you mean the terms of use we all have to agree to, that's due to the lawyers who are paid to make sure Apple's keister is covered when it comes to these forums and how people use them. Since it's a one-time thing, it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

SCSM 2012 Forms (related items tab)

We are using SCSM in our Production environment. I have a question about the "Select Object" function on Related Items Tab. When we click on Add button on Related Items Tab under (lets say) "Configuration Items: Computer, Services and
People" section, it opens a "Select Objects" dialog box with a list of option. Some of these options are not useful to us as we are not using them or may not plan to use in future. For example under the "Select Objects" dialog
box the‘object type’ list contains Database twice (as well as another option as Databases) which makes it difficult to search for the appropriate Database CI. Is there a way the "non used" option can be removed from this drop down list?
Please advise. Any help will be appreciated.

You would have to write your own dialog box. It is called a LaunchAddInstancePickerDialog (found in Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.ServiceManager.Application.dll). You can tell it to provide a list based on a type (ex. Config Item) and a selected class (ex.
computers). And that is just one of the overloads.
You would then have to replace the button which triggers the dialog. Also not too difficult. I think
this post by Rob Ford is actually the best reference (I can find as of now).
If you haven't coded before this is massive undertaking. I you have, then it is advantageous to have C# experience. And still you should expect hours of Work to wrap your head around this.

TS1398 Unable to connect to my home Wi-Fi with my iPad. I have tried just about everything I could find in the Apple Support Community. Perhaps this is a new known problem??

I have tried all the recommend solutions I could find in the Apple Support Community. I noticed a couple of weeks ago the iPad was acting funny about connecting to the internet via the Wi-Fi. The past two days, it wasn't able to connect to the wireless router at all. It recognizes that the wireless router network exists, it just can't join. I tried the re-boot method. I have re-set the network setting on the iPad back to factory. I even thought my old wireless router may have issues and bought a new one yesterday, and the iPad actually worked for about 24 hours and now I am back to the iPad not being able to connect to the wireless router. I have re-entered the wireless router from scratch thinking that there may have been a bug in the setup. I have removed the security settings from the wireless router to see if that may have prevented the iPad from connecting but got the same message "Unable to Join". I have cleared the cookies and data, as that was also a recommended fix, but that didn't work. I also connected the iPad to the computer so that I could check for the latest update. iPad has the latest version, so that solution didn't work. Does anyone out there got any other ideas, or are you experiencing the same problem? Is there some known issue that I am not aware of???

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

1. There is no way of knowing. These things happen.
2. The iOS only gets updated when you want it to be.
3. You should always update to the latest iOS your phone will support. Apple do not write the updates to make your experience worse.

Is the external formatted to Mac OS Extended?
Right click the external icon on the Desktop and select Get Info.
This will tell you the current format.

If you're just reading them from email attachments, you can just open it to "view" the document.
However, if you wish to do editing and work, you'll need an application. I use Documents to Go, but there are other versions that people are happy with - do a search in the App store for "office suite" or "word processing".
The next challenge is getting docs back and forth. Doc2Go and others have their own ways to physically sync docs when connected to a computer; you can also email changed/revised/new documents from the iPad to yourself. However, I use a "cloud service" called DropBox that stores docs in the cloud (so I can get to them anywhere) - I paid for the Premium version of Docs2Go to allow that kind of syncing.

Be sure to install the latest version of Safari (version 5.1.7) which is available via Software Update (in the Apple menu) if you have not already installed it. This update will automatically disable older versions of Flash when new versions are available, and will instruct you on how to install the latest version on your system. This should help keep your system safe from any vulnerabilities in Flash.
Note that this is only useful if you use Safari, though other browsers have their own update mechanisms you should research and enable or configure to your liking.

I connected my iPod to my PC and got a message 'The software for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly.

I connected my iPod to my PC and received a message box that read "The software for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall the iPod's software." Not sure what I need to do. I did uninstall all of my iTunes and related software components and then reinstalled the latest version of iTunes but that did not correct the problem and I now can't access my iTunes library at all.

Another thing is that iPod Touch shows up fine...I've tried every other ipod from older 4gig Nanos to 120gb Classics and none of them work..this is really annoying!

The components for communicating with FTP servers are not installed.

I'm running VS 2013 and when I try to publish to ftp site I get the following message. "Unable to create the Web site 'ftp://xx/'. The components for communicating with the FTP servers are not installed." It has been running fine. I
can publish to file system, web sites etc, just not through the ftp settings. I can access the ftp sites from my system, using other programs. It is not trying to connect to the ftp site at all.

According to your description, since we can publish an application to ftp site in Visual Studio Prof 2013 in our side. Therefore, to further make sure if the issue is related to the VS IDE issue. We suggest
you try to publish to ftp site on another machine you installed same version of VS Prof 2013 and then check it again.
If you can publish on another machine, I suggest may need to re-download the
VS Prof 2013 from Microsoft website and then install it again on your local machine.
If you still could not publish on another machine, I think that the issue is not related to the VS2013 IDE issue. If possible, I still suggest you post the issue directly to the IIS.NET Forum:

And if you didn't set up Find My iPhone, or it's not appearing in the Find My iPhone section of iCloud.com, then there's no way you can wipe the iPhone remotely. If, however, you set up a screenlock password, then someone would need to restore the iPhone to get past the passcode which will erase everything on the iPhone, and if you set the option to erase the iPhone after ten failed attempts at the passcode, your data is even more inaccessible.
