Java Swing and Socket Programming

I am making a Messenger like yahoo Messenger using Swing and Socket Programming ,Multithreading .

I don't really have an answer to what you are asking. But I am developing the same kind of application. I am using RMI for client-server and server-server (i have distributed servers) communication and TCP/IP for client-client. So may be we might be able to help each other out. Are you opening a new socket for every conversation? I was wondering how to multithread a socket to reuse it for different connections, if it is possible at all.

hopefully, no business logic is in struts; only the application logic (i.e. order of screens, input type validation, etc.). If this is the case you have many options:
- direct calls to the ejb (assuming you have a service defined as an EJB)
- SOAP, SOAP-RPC, or a full web-service (as mentioned above)
- your own custom protocol over HTTP
- RMI (probably too much work; easier to just make direct EJB calls)
- JMS (probably more work than just using SOAP or HTTP)
- Socket based communication with your own custom protocol
Probably the fastest to get going is direct calls from swing to the EJB.
You'll have to re-implement your application logic; but this is fine as the swing app will probably have a different flow than the web-app.

How to maintain gap between table and graph in a report

I have a report in which a graph is placed below a table and data in the table gets increased with time , then how to maintain the gap as constant between table and the graph ?? Like i have 50 rows in a table and then next day 10 rows are added but then i want maintain same gap between the table and graph???

How to group Table and Graph in the same section in OBIEE 11g

Hi,
I have a requirement of showing the table and graphs together for various products in different section. For example, for Product A, the table and graph would be displayed together and after product A, the table and graph for product B should be displayed.
I have tried using section but it creates the seperate section for tables and Graphs. Is there a way that we can put the section on table and graph together.

By any chance are you using a pivot table? If so, you can "Graph Pivoted Results". (When you're editing the pivot table, it's the last button at the top/middle of the page.) Then you can use the products column to break the pivot into sections and you'll have a pivot table and graph per section.

I have a neslab chiller and want to read the temperature by sending ASCII characters and graph the results, any advice?

I am having difficulty having the chiller recognize (RT[CR]) which is the signal recognized by the chiller to read the temperature. The signal that is returned is (xxx.xx[CR]) which is the temperature. I am attempting to be able to read the temperature and graph this vs time and possibly be able to change the setpoint as well from the UIR.

I agree with Randy that Hyperterminal is a good starting point to test cabling and communication.
In your program, be careful to serial port initialization (how to set baud rate, parity, data bits and stop bits depends on the language used) and to termination character ([CR] means Carriage return: if you are usng CVI it DOESN'T add CR to the message unless you esplicitly put it in).
Another interesting point is the time the instrument takes to respond to the message: it can vary from message to message and is usually described in the instrument's documentation. If you test for a shorter time, you catch a false 'no response'. You could make a while loop and test in it the number of bytes received, then decide whether to end the loop for timeout or answer recei

How to make start and end curve pieces of selected tab transparent in custom theme in FF33?

I created my own theme using a background image but it seems I cannot code it right in browser.css to make the start and end curve pieces of selected tab transparent. They remain colored, I guess using the operating system's (which is Win XP) dialog color. The middle piece is fine, though, as well as the hovering.
I built my theme based on https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Building_a_Theme but customised it.
Your answer would be highly appreciated!

Are you using the Word Report Generation instrument? You can find it in toolslib\activex\word\wordreport.fp under the CVI directory.
The instrument comes with a sample project that shows how to include table and graphs in a Word document: see samples\activex\word\wordrpt.cws in the samples foder of your CVI installation.

Swings and Threads

My applet communicates with the database. To ensure that the GUI is updated in the Event-Dispatching Thread I am using a SwingWorker: in construct() the application communicates with DB, and in finished() it updates the GUI. In construct() of the SwingWorker thread I need to create a dialog box to prompt the user for an input like to chose a color or to answer yes/no.
My question is: Do I need to use invokeAndWait() to create the dialog box? The more general question is: do we use invokeLater() or SwingWorker only for GUIs that are shared by several threads or we have to use it for every swing we create after Event-Dispatching Thread started running?

One of the fun things about Swing and its EventDispatchThread is that
doing things wrong (such as performing Swing operations from a thread
other than the EDT) is that more often than not, even though they are done
technically wrong, they will still appear to work, especially in small programs.
(In a larger sense, this applies to any multi-threaded program: things might
appear to work until the timing changes just a teensy bit...)
What's even more fun is working with someone who has previously only
done small programs and because of that, takes this approach in large programs, and then spending a large amount of time trying to figure out why
something sporadically stops working, only to trace it back to a Swing
operation being invoked from a thread other than the EDT. Fun!

Using swing and swt together

i would like to use some of the components of swt such labels or buttons in swing as swt has better look and feel. but in all the examples i found they are using a whole set of swt api to create frames and showing them up.
Isnt there any way to add button or label of SWT in Swing. i found a method SWT_AWT.newFrame(). But it is returning a awt frame not a Swing JFrame that at the frame level. i need them at individual component level(buttons and labels).

Swing and SWT are two different framework. Usually, peoiple choose one and stick with it. I would not mess with mixing SWT with Swing or vice-versa. I really don't understand why you would choose to mix these two framework together. "better look and feel" is not the best answer for this. what i would look into is a look and feel for Java (like JGoodies look n feel)..and check for Swing component that pther people have made (or enhance upon the Swing library).
Stick with one framework. Your life will be much easier.
Futhermore, maintainance would be less difficult. (you only have to know one framework instead of two, plus how they interact)

I have a doubt in creating Chats and graphs!!!
I have different organizations in my table, In that i have to select one organization manually using Lov item..... for that particular organization i need to get Graph ( May be Pie or Bar type). How to obtain this model page...
In tutorial exercise we do-not have option for selecting some organization and getting the graph for that... we have got option only for all the details of the employee table...
How to obtain this module... Please help me out in this issue!!!!

Possible to script palette menus Save and Load Curves?

Is it possible to script CS4 Photoshop's palette menus? Specifically, the "Save Curves Preset ..." and "Load Curves Preset" ... of the Adjustments Palette.
I have 600 images, some of which have layer>new adjustment layer>curves applied.
I want to save the curves using the image name. Later, I want to be able to load the appropriate curve.
E.g., for image001.tif, the curve would be image001.acv
(I already have a loop set up to iterate through the files and get the file names.)

I got both scripts working without JS or AS errors, but, when trying to load .acv files generated by the second script, CS4 Photoshop gave an error:
"Could not load the curves because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"
(The loading script works fine when loading .acv files created directly from Photoshop.)
The only change I made to your Save Curves code was:

TO: var myACV = new File(file);
and made the code a function:
saveCurves(file)

Missing Basic and Tone Curve Panel in LR5

Last night I installed LR5 (last version was LR3) on my iMac with Mavericks OS and everything was working fine, I thought, and I was using the Develop Module when I noticed the Basic Panel and Tone Curve Panel (which I had been using) had gone missing . As in, poof, they were gone. So now I have the Histogram, the Crop and other tools and brushes, and then nothing until HSL/Color/B&W and then on down.

I'm cheating here with another question, but I think it will be quick: I see LR5 automatically uses the updated interface for Highlights, Shadows, Blacks, Whites and I see they are more precise and subtle. Can I go to photos adjusted in LR3 that still show the LR3 interface and use the LR5 interface & finer adjustments on the old photos?
