Things that bother me with Verizon

I was hoping that Verizon would provide a customer support e-mail address but I couldn't find it. I'm unhappy about a number of things with FIOS TV. First I signed on because of what seemed like a good deal but unlike cable I needed to pay for an adapter for each TV in the house ranging from 5.99 to 16.99 per month.  Not such a deal. The order of channels is somewhat annoying with the additional fee channels inter mixed so that you have to scroll through them to find what you want. Then I found that BBC America, a channel that was part of the basic with cable was part of a premium package which included a host of channels I didn't want. It had been available on demand but that has gone away. So none of these things may be major, they are annoying enough that when the deal ends I will be done.

Hi kroman,
Welcome to the Palm forums! Sorry to hear that you're having problems with your Pre. Let's see if we can fix those for you.
1. There have been several updates that improve performance. Let's make sure you have the latest update:
Tap the center button to minimize any open cards
Type Updates (the icon for Updates will display)
Tap on the Updates Icon
If an update is available, tap Download Now.
Tap Install Now once the download is finished.
2. Transferring music and images to/from the computer is done through USB Drive mode. This is a mode that makes the Pre look like a USB hard drive. Simply plug the phone into the computer with the USB cable, then tap USB Drive on the phone. If you want to transfer pictures and videos you've taken from your phone, they're in the DCIM\100PALM folder.
3. What about GPS isn't working? More specifically, which app isn't working. The Pre can use GPS, aGPS, Cell ID, and Wi-Fi ID to find your location depending on which app you use, so I'm going to need some more information before we can work this one out.
Hope this helps and I'll look for your reply.

  • Things that are wrong with GNU Java

I thought I'd start this topic for reference. Contributions and corrections welcome.
Things I've encountered or seen here over the years:
    1. Incompatible under Serialization.
    2. Incompatible under RMI.
    3. Swing support is either missing or incomplete.
    4. jni.h doesn't agree with the JNI specification (found this yesterday: dozens of 'const's missing on parameters, and jboolean and jbyte both map to the same underlying native type, unlike the real jni.h).
I suppose it might ultimately have been more efficient to start a topic 'Things that are right with GNU Java' ...

I can't agree with that. If anyone implements Java, for any reason, good or bad, they are supposed to get it right. IBM's Java exists and doesn't have these problems. And there are other vendors. There's only one 'vendor' with a majjor problem and that's what the thread is about.
GNU has got it so wrong with their 'Java' that I can't see how it can possibly pass the compatibility tests, so how they can get away with calling it Java at all is another mystery ... When you look at their offerings, GCC is really their only major success. Their original goal, a GNU kernel, was never finished ...
For the record, and the purpose of this thread, GNI Java ['supports most of the 1.4 libraries plus some 1.5 additions'|http://gcc.gnu.org/java/]. In other words they haven't finished 1.4 yet, which came out on Feb 13, 2002, and is now in end-of-life, which ['will complete October 30th, 2008'|http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/]. Let alone 1.5 which came out on Sept 29, 2004. Their target? ['GNU Classpath 1.0 will be fully compatible with the 1.1 and 1.2 API specifications, in addition to having significant (>95%) compatability with the 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 APIs'|http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/]. In other words 1.0 isn't out yet.

  • Some things that bother me after installing BI on OAS

    Hi,
I'm new to BI but have been working with Oracle's application server for years.
I've deployed BI 10.1.3.4.1 on OAS 10.1.3.4. I've also deployed on different versions of OAS and found more problems but the ones below occur on all of them.
The install is on a 64 bit Linux OS but both BI and OAS were installed in 32 bit emulation mode.
Things appear to work but I'm seeing errors that bother me.
After issuing an opmnctl startall I see the following in the default_group~home~default_group~1.log file:
WARNING: Code-source /private/biee/webserver/j2ee/home/applications/xmlpserver/xmlpserver/WEB-INF/lib/toplink.jar (from WEB-INF/lib/ directory in /private/biee/webserver/j2ee/home/applications/xmlpserver/xmlpserver/WEB-INF/lib) has the same filename but is not identical to /private/biee/webserver/toplink/jlib/toplink.jar (from <code-source> (ignore manifest Class-Path) in META-INF/boot.xml in /private/biee/webserver/j2ee/home/oc4j.jar). If it contains different versions of the same classes, it will be masked as the latter is already visible in the search path of loader xmlpserver.web.xmlpserver:0.0.0.
The same error is duplicated for:
    - ldapjclnt10.jar
    - collections.jar
    - orawsdl.jar
    - orasaaj.jar
    - xmlparserv2.jar
    - share.jar
    - mdds.jar
A workaround I found in Metalink or out on the web, I don't recall which, was to replace the problem jar files with the OAS jars. Doing that supresses the error but xmlpserver fails to load.
On issuing opmnctl stopall, it takes atleast 5 minutes to shutdown and results in the following error message:
opmnctl: stopping opmn and all managed processes...
    ================================================================================
    opmn id=<hostname>:6200
    1 of 2 processes stopped.

    Log:
    /private/biee/webserver/opmn/logs//default_group~home~default_group~1.log
opmnctl: graceful stop of processes failed, trying forceful shutdown...
Looking at the log file shows no problem:
    10/05/26 06:12:38 Stop process
    10/05/26 06:12:40 Shutting down...
    - Scheduler DefaultQuartzScheduler_$_NON_CLUSTERED shutting down.
    - Scheduler DefaultQuartzScheduler_$_NON_CLUSTERED paused.
    - Scheduler DefaultQuartzScheduler_$_NON_CLUSTERED shutdown complete.
Again things are working but I'm hesitant to turn this over to the group I support if something isn't quite right

We have the same symptoms on our servers (including production), and nothing's gone boom yet :-)

  • Just some various things that I see with iTunes 7....

Ok, to start off with, history..
    Computer(s)
System one: Home built. (I own my own computer shop)
AMD XP 2800 running @ 2083mhz. 1024 MB of DDR 400MHz Ram. 4 Hard drives totaling 480 GB of storage space. DVD everything drive from Lite-On. 256 MB nVidia 5700LE AGP 8x video. On-board Avance AC97 Audio card using the Digital SPDIF out to a 5.1 Digital Surround system. (this is just an office system, nothing fancy really)
System two: Dell Inspiron 4100 PIII 1.13 GHz, 512mb, 40 GB.
I use iTunes primarily on the AMD system. To date, I have not had that many problems, other than it being a resource hog at times. And especially with the laptop. But that is expected.
Couple things I have a beef with. I have been using this iTunes for around 3 or 4 years now. I recently started downloading TV shows. They have been playing and working fine on both the laptop and desktop, playing good, no stuttering etc.
Now all of a sudden, you upgrade us to 7. We can't purchase new videos unless we upgrade. Fine, I upgrade. Normally I do my big downloads with my laptop, as I do not have high speed where the AMD system is. No biggie.
First off, I noticed some differences. Number one, being the file sizes of the video has changed. For example Battlestar Galacta. Previous seasions before season 2. File sizes averaged 200MB, total bit rate of around 600. Now they are around 500MB per episode, and 1500 bitrate!!
This makes me ask the question...
Does this mean that my previous downloads of lesser quality are a WASTE, since you now have these bigger and better? That kinda irked me off actually. I would like to see that rectified, with the option to be able to re-download any I have previously purchased, so that the quality matched across the board.
Second. This newer quality video, KILLS the video playback capabilities. I mean, now it actually stutters somewhat on playback, even on the AMD machine. Not likeing that. They won't even play on the laptop anymore. Not even the older ones. What in the world did you do to the poor thing???
Third. This is mostly to those with cracking sound. My guess is... System being played from may not be able to keep up with the demands on the CPU of the new version of iTunes. I don't have that problem, but I am playing it via a digital link, not analog. My laptop however sounded normal on playback of music.
More to that fact, I have noticed a serious slow down with response on both machines while using iTunes. Any reason why that is? And can it be fixed?
Finally. Why is the system CPU time in such high demand during a download of a purchased file? It pegs the system at 100 percent the entire time it is downloading, and can take up to 10 minutes to know if I clicked pause on the download screen. THAT is a problem. Again, this was on the laptop, but it was NEVER like that before.
Anyways, this is my thing, so any info would be appreciated. And I hope someone at Apple really takes heed at this. Hope this helps some of you out there!

  • I have an iphone 5 that was originally with verizon but has been unlocked now by them and the phone is still under the apple warranty, if I go to replace for power button malfunctioning, will they give replace it with an unlocked phone as well?

I currently have an iphone 5 that was verizon locked but has been unlocked by them because of my contract, the phone is still under the apple warranty but the power button is not working, if it was the case that apple has to replace it with another phone, will they replace with an unlocked phone now?
    thanks

The SIM Lock is stored on the Apple Activation Server - if it has been correctly unlocked by a network then this would have been done on the Activation Server.
When you get your replacement handset through Apple they mirror the activation server details of your existing handset and the current SIM LOCK status is mirror'd onto the new device.
(100% Accurate - done mine 2 weeks before christmas due to original 5 sleep button stopped working)

•Sluggish response from every thing. Which leads to a locked phone.

  • HT1688 ok i have a iphone 3 and there are some things that is wrong with it can it be fixed and if so where or who do i talk to

i have a iphone 3 and there is things wrong with it can it be fixed and who do i talk to to get it fixed

Apple does not repair iPhones, but will replace the entire iPhone for a flat fee; see the Service Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/
There are independent iPhone repair services that may be able to do a repair for less, though of course it depends on what's wrong with it. Do a web search for "iPhone repair". Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPhone serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further support from Apple will be voided.
The iPhone 3G is pretty old now by smartphone standards, though, so you might want to consider putting your money toward a new, or at least newer, iPhone rather than spending to repair your current unit.
    Regards.

  • Two things that bug me with my T400

I got a T400 and I have it how i like it except for two things:
1.) The harddrive light flicks about every second or shorter.  What is accessing my hard drive all the time?  (I installed a SSD but I think it did the same thing before I installed it)
2.) The lenovo service take FOREVER to startup.  I try to bring up the internet (Fn+F5) or the ThinkVantage button and it thinks a for little and then NOTHING COMES UP.  I have to wait about 10 minutes after startup and then click I can click the button and the service will start
I've updated both my Lenovo service and Windows.  What can I do to fix this?

  • My mac needs to be updated...it tells me that it doesn't have any updates but i have several things that wont operate with the software it has on it....its has been several years since ive actually sat down to use this one so i know it is behind

desk top is seriously behind on software, i just wanna get it back up to date

You don't say what model of Mac Pro you have, but all will run 10.6, which is the base version required to run the App Store and progress to further versions. The first two models of Mac Pro (2006 and 2007) cannot go further than 10.7.
You can get a 10.6.3 retail DVD online at most vendors (eg amazon) and update to 10.6.8 after that using Software Update.

  • New Customer - Have had MISERABLE experience with Verizon service and Customer service

I am a brand new customer of Verizon Fios and so far I have zero good things to say about it.  If it wasn't for the aggrevation of switching cable companies, I most definitely would go back to Comcast.
I moved into a new home in the middle of April.  The previous owner had Verizon Fios in this house, so there was minimal installation that had to be done when I initially set up my cable.  My house was pretty much empty at the time, so we had the TV's set up where we had a place to put it (upstairs, kitchen, and living room).  We recently bought bedroom furniture, so we could now move the TV to where we initially wanted it, in our bedroom.  However when we tried to hook it up to an outlet, no picture came though.  This is when my awful experience with verizon customer service (or lack there of) began.
I took time out of my work day to call Verizon about this problem.  I was on hold for about 30 mins until I actually heard a human's voice.  He was unable to help me since I was not at home to unplug and plug things back in.
I called again when I was home, this time I was on hold for about 20 mins (wow)... the first person could not help me, so she transferred me to another department... put on hold for 35 mins.... this perosn couldnt help me either and they transferred me back to the SAME DEPARTMENT I WAS INITIALLY TRANSFERRED FROM.... put on hold for about 45 mins... finally i speak with someone that knows what they are talking about.  Of course I have to go through all the same steps that I did the first time which did not work.  As this person decides I need a technician, he begins to look up available dates... and then after an hour and 35 mins on the phone, it gets disconnected!  I wait for 5 minutes to get a call back but I get NOTHING.  I spent now 2 hours trying to deal with this and verizon doesnt even call me back when its their phone that gets disconnected? Thats terrible.
I call back after 10 mins and am put on hold right away (obviously).... after 25 mins of being on hold, shocker - the call is disconnected again.
That was enough for one day
I call back again the next day... same old thing... put on hold for 30 mins, talk to one person who cant help me, transferred to another department and put on hold for 20 more mins.
Finally with the tech department who says they are going to schedule a tech to come out to fix the problem but also mentioned they are going to charge me $55 for this! Are you kidding me?????? Verizon wastes about 4 hours of my life and busy day and then has the nerve to say they are going to charge me for it? I asked the person several times if I could speak with a manager or supervisor, they never let me.  I asked multiple times and she just said that they wouldnt be able to help me and that the charge would stick.
I can't imagine that anyone would treat a brand new customer like this.  I will not recommend Verizon to any one until I see some kind of help or REAL customer service from them.

I did call them this morning, and still on the phone.
I will say this - the reps are very friendly and do try to help in earnest.  That's been my experience overall with Verizon.  So in terms of the actual people, I give them an A+.
In terms of their system and how they process things, they get a big fat F.   The very idea that I sent back a phone with accessories and their warehouse only registered the return of the phone pretty much says that there is something fishy going on there at the warehouse.   And it took an hour to sort this out so far and counting.
The thing that bugs me about Verizon is how complicated it is to get everything straightened out.
Right now, they are trying to sort out the activation fee - I already have been charged one and now they are trying to figure out if i have to pay another one.   Another 15 minutes just on that.
Everything has been resolved.   Thankfully, Verizon's saving grace is that their reps are nice people.

  • The problem with Verizon

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the problem with Verizon is their IT strategy and their lack of communications.  None of their systems can talk to each other.
That's why when a FIOS tech comes to your house and doesn't know what your order was supposed to be, its because the system that generated the order originally, isnt the same system that the tech looks at before he/she goes to your house.
On top of that, the customer was lied to from the very beginning by a door-to-door outsourced salesperson that doesn't know what specials the company is having and just makes anything up to make the sale.  They're paid their commission, then they end up getting fired or quit in less than a month or so. The poor Verizon FIOS tech that visits the customer ends up bearing the brunt of the customer's frustration because the customer was told that they wouldn't have to pay for any of the extras that they want and that they can cancel at any time when the FiOs tech knows that they can't make that deal.
To add to this problem, whenever there is a problem with your order, the tech has to call into a phone number where they are put on hold in the same manner that customers are and made to wait (sometimes hours) for the customer service or dispatch rep to figure out that the order was put in the order.  Then they try to figure out why the tech was at the customer's house for so long...hmmm, I wonder.
Then, when the customer finally gets the service and tries to pay their bill, the bill has numerous excessive charges for which the they weren't aware.  They call the customer service line and get put on hold 5 times and have to re-explain their situation every time a new person picks up.  The customer service rep agrees to remove the charge from the bill.  Two months later when the charge is still appearing on their bill, they have to continue to call again until they get so frustrated that they cancel their service....and the cycle repeats when a new special is offered and the customer agrees to give them a second chance.  I wonder how much this is costing the company???
Why do I know all this?  My boyfriend is a Verizon FiOs. tech.  And I am a Verizon customer.  I've been trying to pay my bill online for 2 months and the website keeps telling me that "They are experiencing a problem and I should try back later." Should a multi-BILLION dollar company take more than a few minutes or hours to correct this problem?   TWO MONTHS!!!???
Seriously, these Verizon IT executives should be embarassed.  They are to blame for not only the technical issues that the technicians experience every day on the job, but also the customer service problems because their ERP system doesn't talk to their CRM or Order management system.   It doesn't take a genius to figure out that they need a web-based, real-time solution to fix this problem.

FlyerQ has it exactly right.  What is sad is that it's not like it is huge cost to upgrade port capacity.  With the cost per meg that they charge for FiOS there is plenty of margin there for them to be good internet citizens.  The reason I'm sure they are against doing so is that would provide less opportunity to extort money from the content providers.
Unfortunately it is not surprising that Verizon is acting in this way considering they are the company that sued to get the legal authority to damage the internet (killing net neutrality).
The one point I'd disagree with FlyerQ on is being infuriated with Netflix.  Verizon is advertising upgrading to 50 or 75Mbps connections.  If their customers all want to stream Netflix at once that should not be a problem.  We're talking about ~3Mbps for an outstanding experience or utilization of about 1/17th of what they advertise.  Making sure they have enough port capacity to handle that is part of what we are paying for.  But they choose to harm their customers in the hope that they can also collect from providers.

  • Why is the Iphone not compatible with Verizons 4G network?

Will Apple be coming out with an iphone4S that is compatible with Verizons 4G network?

Why? Because it does not have an LTE radio in it.
As for will Apple come out with one that is, nothing has been announced, therefore no-one knows. It's highly doubtful that there will be a version of the 4S that is LTE capable.

  • Progams that work with Alltel and Suddenlink are no longer working with VERIZON (IRC)

I have worked this issue TO DEATH already and am getting FED UP!
I have been polite and nice and called customer support to get very short and not very explicit answers to this issue.
Complaint #1: When I call technical support and ask questions more complicated than " How do I plug in my computer?" they inform they are transferring me to TECHNICAL support.  Okay so who did I call in the first place if not tech support.
Problem:  IRC ( Internet Relay Chat)  Is one of the main things that I enjoy doing online.  Some do games, some do work.  I do it all through my little IRC program.  When I was with Alltel and had my little blackberry pearl.  I could even get onto irc just fine that way.  Getting on via a cell phone is kind of a pain.  Small keyboard and lots of typing isn't my idea of that relaxing but.. okay whatever at least I could get on.  Since Alltel became Verizon I was told to upgrade my phone to the brand new Blackberry Curve.  Well now IRC didn't work.  I upgraded to the LG Vortex.  Now it works on my phone.  So I upgraded my wireless card too and IRC worked just fine for a long time.  NOW we are back to the same old same old.
For those of you not familiar with the program just wiki it.  I have been told by NUMEROUS customer support reps that this program is not being blocked so this is the list of things I went through to make sure it was indeed NOT me or my computer.
Step 1: System restored before most recent updates to the last date that it was working.
    NO GO
Step 2: Disabled firewall and virus software temporarily and even turned down my security on my browser
    NO GO
Step 3: Re updated my computer and updated my firmware on my MIFI2200 card.
    No go
    Step 4-7 Called customer Support
    NOPE.
Still waiting.  I am paying for a service that is not providing.  My entire family was with Alltel and is now with Sprint.  I just keep asking myself why am I still with Verizon when all we ever do is fight.  I hate to admit it to the kids but I think it's time for a divorce from you if we can't get this issue resolved.  Before upgrading to these devices I even asked store reps if irc programs would work and they assured me " OH YES!  With these new upgrades things will be better than ever!"
I realize to some this seems like not a very big deal, but when I am paying for a service so that I can come home relax, maybe take a few art commisions while chatting on irc and all the sudden I either can't use it or can use it when I couldn't before it's amazingly frustrating.  I have taken my computer over to other people's houses to see if turning my security all the way back up as well as my firewall made a difference, but on any provider OTHER than verizon I can connect just fine.
Tell me WHY Verizon.  Tell me why you either can't fix this.. or won't fix this.
Security issues?  That's my problem.  If I want to connect to a DNS server based program that connects via different ports.. that should be MY decision.  You should NOT get to make that choice for me.
It's amazing I went to the customer support for IRC and they told me that Verizon doesn't allow you to use IRC.  I have checked NUMEROUS boards and discussion forums only to have them tell me that VERIZON does NOT allow you to use IRC.   However when I talk to Verizon they say " No it must be you.. "  Well I am not taking that excuse anymore.  I've done my share of work on this problem.  Now it's your turn.  Sorry to be rude.. but I paid for the mIRC program, and take artwork commisions over it as well.  I probably pay more for verizon's service than I would with sprint (so says the rest of the family).
Please give me some real answers and real tech support.
    Thanks for any help.

I choose option 3.  The moment I talk to them about anything more complicated than the bare basics of getting connected they tell me they will transfer me to " tech support."  Very frustrating lol.  I always wonder who I was on the phone with prior to that because it says Tech support but clearly there must be different levels of their support lines.  Sometimes I get someone who will talk and work with me, but generally I get someone who says " Okay I have down your issue and I'll pass it along.."  then they hang up.  However I have been transferred twice in one sitting from "tech support" to Tech support.  So I dunno.  I think they don't have an answer and so they run me in circles.

  • I have been a customer with Verizon, since 1996. Recently, my husband has been added onto my account. We have both been experience drop calls. My husband contact Tech support for over 2 weeks. We were pretty upset to be paying a lot of money for a service

I have been a customer with Verizon, since 1996. Recently, my husband has been added onto my account. We have both been experience drop calls. My husband contact Tech support for over 2 weeks. We were pretty upset to be paying a lot of money for a service that didn't work. Verizon advised us that would upgrade both of our phones (to see if that solved the problem). Ok...this is where Verizon has forgotten customer service rules. He order 2 phone...one for himself, one for me. 1st the wrong address on the package..Fedex couldn't deliver...2nd...missing condo number Fedex couldn't deliver again...(2nd call to Verizon)...3rd package was finally deliver with 1 phone...missing my phone. Contacted verizon rep...reorder my phone again..but sorry we cannot give the same price as quoted on 21April...even though...its our mistake...Ok...Ok..what a surprise..but we can do this...after 65 minutes...found a price that was a little bit more...fine...just order the phone....I reordered phone on 28April...on the April 29...no email..so I can Verizon for the 4times in a few days..sorry your order was delay due to our Fraud dept. OK...talked to fraud dept...ok..account is good..will release phone and ship. OK...Next day, no email with deliver confimation. Contact Verizon 5 times now...sorry..your order was cancelled...YES...cancelled again...2nd time now...but we can reorder...OK...sorry but we cannot honor that price that was quoted..really...agent messed up...again...but we can do this for you....I don't understand...your mistake...ALL the times...
Strange ...how my order gets cancelled twice by Verizon's mistake....yet you cannot honor prices that your agents quoted!!!
I didn't reorder the phone....I cannot in good faith same with a company that does not stand behind their own mistakes...and worse...they make the poor customer pay for it...
I will not be renewing my contact...its time to Cricket Wirless...which my sister-in-law loves for half the cost....

I hope that you aren't complaining about dropped calls INSIDE your condo because no amount of switching or upgrading devices will solve that.
VZW will not guarantee service inside of any structure. There are just too many factors. If the problem is inside then you might want to look at one of the following:
