To the Keynote Forum moderator

The Keynote Forum for about a week now has been performing very sluggishly: it frequently loads pages very slowly and sometimes not at all. I presume you already know about this, but I thought I should tell you that the problems still persist.
We all look forward to this problem being rectified as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Ron,
The entirety of discussions have been having problems recently. Things should be getting better soon, though.

  • Hey Forum Moderator ... what happened to the link to Preference file location??

There used to be link to a document describing the location of the Preferences files for various different versions of LR and various different operating systems.
That link used to be right here on the main page of the Lightroom Forum, but it's gone now.
    Can we have it back?

You mean the Overview page http://forums.adobe.com/community/lightroom?view=overview
I visit that page maybe once a month to remind myself where not to go for fear of getting lost.

    Hi,
I have had bt broadband opt3 for almost 3 months now and have always had a healthy 9mb+ connection, however have noticed it being very slow in the evening when I come home from work, I checked the speed last nite as iplayer was constantly freezing and was getting 1mb . A bit upset by this as I got bt broadband to play my ps3 online and to get faster speeds on my laptop, and I use these services mostly at nite.
I checked my speed this morning and was getting 11mb, is this normal or am I being capped I cant believe Id be going over my download limit. Can someone from bt get back to me on this?
    Thanks
    John

Welcome to the world of BT , the tv advert when he says " business slow" when trying to load a webpage is not other companies thats BT.

Yes Alison, I think I can see that now. I wouldnt mind if broadband was a bit slower at peak times, I know thats normal, but when I'm only getting 1mb when my max is 14mb, I just dont feel I'm getting what I pay for. And when it gets to the point where I cant watch iplayer without it stuttering everywhere and online games lagging on the ps3, this is certainly not what I'm paying for.
I was hoping one of the mods here would help me and check my line and see if there is any cap on the line and get it removed.
I really dont wanna phone India, I deal with them 5 days a week as is...
Think I will just send one of the mods an email to check my line and see if it is being capped or if somethings wrong.

You will never get decent speeds on Iplayer,
BT limit it because they want you to subscribe to their precious BT Vision service.
The only way you are guaranteed to get decent speeds on BT is to subscibe to BT Vision and also unlimited broadband.
Then you will get priority when you stream TV at your exchange unlike fighting it out with all the other broadband users as you currently are for the available bandwith.the more over subscribed your local exchange the worse it is

    Hi John,
I can take a look at the network side of things for you, to see if there is anything I can do to help improve your speed during peak periods. Please could you drop me an email with your BT account details? Please also include a link to this thread. It would also be very helpful if you could run a few speed tests using www.speedtester.bt.com when you feel your Broadband is running slow. I can then check those results from here.
    Thanks

Well John i'll tell you what it is...
First of all welcome to BT and I hope you'll enjoy 18months of pain and suffer.
    OK here it goes....
If you look at your contract, find a rule that says Fair Usage Policy.
Basically it states that BT will cap anyone that is abusing their lines.
However, it does not say what are the limits after which you are going to be capped for how long and at what times. (I'll come back to this later and explain)
If you ring 08007076044 I'm sure that someone will confirm my theory. As constant 1MBit between 6PM till 11/12 PM is actually FUP applied on to your account.
Ok time to explain my frustration about FUP.
Since I signed my contract with "lovely" BT for constant 4 months I had similar issue but it took me even longer to find out what is going on and how to deal with this problem (thanks to google).
FUP team states that if you exceed 100GB in a month (everyone will admit that these days 100GB is nothing when a single game for PS3/XBox360/PC sometimes is more than 5GB and 1080p film is about 12GB) will cap you for a month at peak times to outstanding and superfast 1Mbit (about 130-150KB/s).
I'be been watching my download and for few months never exceeded that 100GB in a month. Been ringing FUP team to verify when suddenly they told me that from (cant remember exactly) March FUP will apply only to accounts that are using Torrents and other P2P.
you won't believe how happy I was hearing that.... So i've started to download and next month guess what.... 1Mbit connection.
Really mad rang FUP team and asked them what on earth is going on. They confirmed that its only P2P and I've explained them that I only use Youtube, BBC iPlayer, Rapidshare, Steam and XBox Live, Beatport (just don't understand how ppl can use torrents and other P2P as they are just way to slow). So they were happy to take the cap off my broadband connection.
Next month same issue solved exactly the same way.
After that for consecutive few months I had no problem whatsoever until September where FUP Team said that there is no such thing and FUP applies to everyone.
So just want to say that BT is rubbish that can't keep their word.
I went to one of the sales advisor in the shopping centre and asked him how FUP works as it does not say in the contract "how, when, who and what".
So he said that policy is applied based on amount of files downloaded within that 100GB. So if I download e.g. 3x 50GB (although its 150GB altogether) files I wont be affected but 100x 1GB will put a cap on me.
I've been so curious if what he said was right and started to download 2x 60GB and guess what... Got frigging FUP placed on my account!!!.
    I've got 2months left with them and will be extremely happy to cancel my contract, moreover, I will do everything in my power to sue them under EU Consumer Rights Law (that states that contract should be clear and fair to both sides) as Fair Usage Policy is one of those things that allows BT to do anything they want to their customers;
    1. No clear explanation of what FUP is.
    2. Does not states the amount of downloaded data required to have cap on the acount
    3. Does not states for how long it will be applied
    4. Does not states when it will be applied
If you look at e.g. Virgin Broadband everything is clearly written in nice and understandable way. It warns you at what times FUP will be applied under what circumstances and for how long. Isn't it what we all want to know??

@Mateusz I think I maybe a victim of this outragous stint BT have done. I have 2 XBOX 360's running on XBOX Live, 2 Desktop PCs connected to the web constantly, and 3 laptops, we have a torrent sharing running and World Of Warcraft on one of the PCs. All of this is shared across a 6 person family. How can a family where two members goto to college and university do their college ork, download application such as VB.net do their coursework and revise without the hassle of a **** connection. Seriously BT get your ******* head outta your **** and stop this ********, we are customers, we pay for what we are offered. When I signed up several years ago I could download everything on the net woithout infracions on my line being set in motion. You altered my contract without telling me. You will lose custom from this. Also you have ****** my wireless

You lot are lucky, We wish we could be capped to 1mbit. Our IP profile is capped to 500kbit because BT say the line isn't good enough for anything more. We are paying for option3 up to 8mbit and BT have said we must continue to pay for it for the remainder of the contract, or buy ourselves out of it early, the reason they give.... Up to 8mbit means up to 8mbit. If you dont get 8mbit then TOUGH LUCK SUCKERS!!
The outcome? We feel like we've been turned over by a dodgey second hand car salesman called BT. The internet deal he flogged us was a dog, a ringer, it wasn't cosher and certainly had a false MOT certificate.

    Hi Amanda,
Why have you joined BT Option 3 when you can not get what BT can offer?
No pun intended but you are a bit of a sucker for paying high prices where other suppliers are cheaper and can provide what your line can support.

we moved house last october to this one, the connection was rubbish from the get-go, BT said the router was broken and we needed a new one, we said OK. That "OK" meant that we had entered into a new contract for option 3 same as out old one. The router wasn't broken, the new one didnt fix or improve the problem, we have since asked for a price reduction or compensation and been told "no". we are in contract and can pay to buy ourselves out of it if we like but otherwise we have to pay for option 3 and recieve fixed rate 500kb.

    Hi Amanda,
I think you'll find that the Hold To Term rules have changed. BT are now unable to charge you for the account if you no longer require it. It is against OFCOM's rulings for a company to make more money out of you as a leaving customer than an existing one. However, You will need to pay for the connection charge (if that has not expired it's original differed contract) which is £40. A cancellation fee of £25 if you are simply cancelling and not migrating using a MAC key and for any hardware. The Routers are advertised at £88 and i would suggest that if they believed on to be faulty then that would be replaced under guarantee and not be put on a differed basis. I would check exactly what they say the are charging you and query this through OFCOM. http://www.ofcom.org.uk/

Months of impecable service form BT as an option 3 customer. (I've even recommended BT to people)
    but
For the past 2 weeks peak traffic has murdered my connection.
I can get 14mbit off peak, and it used to drop to about 7-9 at peak times.
Now its down to 1-2mbit at peak times. (no i haven't breached FUP as I check my btinternet inbox for the 80GB warning)
I think its resonable to experience drop off but 90%!!!
BT advertising says fast speeds at peak times. less than 2mbit is not fast. (that the governments minimum standard!!!)
I don't know how to procede because when I'm experiencing these issues if I ring up I will end up waiting so long to speak to someone (because its peak time) the concection wiill be better again.
I can think of no recourse other than to approach trading standards...
Guarnetee me 5mbit at peak times (enough to stream HD iplayer) and I'd be happy
That is what BT vision customers are in essence are getting + what ever their PC is using.
Fair usage? what about Fair Supply.

  • I just bought a new iPad2, and updated it to iOS 7, shouldn't I have gotten iLife free like they said in the keynote last week?

In the keynote last week at the iPhone event, they stated that all buyers of "new iOS devices" would be getting the option to download iLife for free?  Why wasn't this the case when i just bought my iPad2 yesterday and put iOS7 on it?  Is there a start date to this promotion that I didn't catch or what?
    Thanks.

    1. Something like this http://www.macworld.com/article/140909/2009/06/animate_the_desktop.html
    2. Not exactly sure what you mean here. Maybe someone else can answer.
    3. Since the MBP is a different system I don't think it will directly copy over. You will probably have to dig in and drag files and folders of pics and docs over. There is a Time Machine Forum on here where you can get better info.
    4. Erase the drive in Disk Utility. Start again and reinstall the system from System Restore (see your manual).
    5. You can just order a trackpad http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC380LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA1Mg. As to financing I think the Apple option is a credit card.
    6. Most monitors are in the landscape ratio you don't want. But I have seen some that rotate up vertically taller. Might be too tall though.
    7. I use a regular old style mouse pad.

  • How to stop receiving e-mails from the Adobe Forums?

After the recent upgrade to the Adobe Forums you may notice that you are receiving additional e-mail messages from the Adobe Forums.
To turn off e-mail notifications please complete the following steps:
    Go to https://forums.adobe.com/welcome
Click on your Avatar and choose the Preference option
Alternately you can click on https://forums.adobe.com/user-preferences!input.jspa to access your Preferences.
Under the General Preferences you can adjust your e-mail preferences.  You can choose which type of notifications you wish to receive e-mail notifications for.  I would recommend disabling the e-mail regarding Moderation Notifications
Once your selection has been made then click the Save button to apply the settings change.

What does “I cannot export or copy and paste or drag the mail over” mean?
Mail stores most preferences and all account settings in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (except the passwords, which are stored in the keychain). Everything else, including all your messages and mailboxes, is stored within the ~/Library/Mail/ folder.
Similarly, Address Book stores the settings in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist and the data in ~/Library/Application Support/AddresBook/.
Other applications store preferences and data in other places. You may want to ask in the appropriate forums for more information on those.
If both computers are running the same major version of Mac OS X, copying these files & folders from one computer to the other is all you need to do in order to have an exact copy of all your data on both computers.
In order to avoid potential permission issues, copy the files operating on the destination computer and while logged in as the user that’s going to use them. Also, be sure the affected applications aren’t running on either computer while doing that.
Alternatively, you may use Migration Assistant, as Michael suggested:
Transferring data with Setup Assistant / Migration Assistant FAQ
And you may want to read the following articles as well:
Transferring files between two Macintosh computers
How to back up and restore your important Mac OS X 10.4 files
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • A bit off topic, but what time should I arrive at the Keynote?

I'm posting this in the FCP forum because this is the only one I read. I'm attending Macworld for the first time and I have the cheap tickets for the Keynote (user's conference). I have no idea how early I need to show up to wait in line to guarantee I get into the Keynote.
Thanks and sorry for the off topic post.

Just showing a pick of what I look like...hee.
I will have an exhibitors pass, so I wonder if I can get in any later and still get good seats? HA! I will bring my lappy, to keep me occupied (I hope they have wireless access).
For iChat reports I'd need all your iChat accounts. That would be one BIG group chat.

  • The Keynote/Quicktime bug which prevents podcast exports from Keynote

I too have been stymied by the bug which prevents export of .mov files out of Keynote when the presentation contains builds. I spent this weekend recording lectures which I would normally give to medical undergraduates in person but for which I will be away so have to prepare substitute podcasts. I have done this in the past very successfully. This weekend I recorded the audio for the lectures in Keynote and all worked as it should when I played them back within Keynote. The first lecture I exported successfully to a .mov file but this presentation was short and didn't contain animations. The next two lectures would not export, the computer often spent many minutes saying it was exporting but would then produce an error message saying that it could not be completed because either there was not enough memory or the file was the wrong format. I tried at different resolutions, shorter presentations etc. This was all very frustrating because last year I had successfully done the same thing with highly animated presentations.
Today I tried it on my office computer which is a recent 24" iMac with lots of memory and a powerful processor but the problem remained. It was then that I consulted the forums and found page upon page of people with a similar problem and lots of supposed fixes including reverting to earlier versions of Quicktime etc.
I am in a similar position to many other posters in that I have to produce these teaching materials by the end of this week and so cannot wait for Apple to produce updates that will fix these issues.
Some posters recommended the software Screenflow as a solution and I am posting this message to confirm this does provide a good solution. Obviously we shouldn't have to pay $99 to get round a problem that Apple has created from a system that previously worked effortlessly and seamlessly but if you are in a similar position to me then this solution will work. You simply take your Keynote presentation with audio commentary and run it whilst Screenflow is recording in the background and set Screenflow to record the computer audio. This produces a file that can then be exported into a number of different video formats optimised for different viewing platforms (e.g. iPod, iPhone, computer screen). It took 5 minutes to install the software and 5 minutes to learn how to use it. The transitions between slides and the animations within slides are all very smooth and the video and audio is perfectly synchronised.
Screenflow would also be useful in other contexts such as recording video tutorials to teach students how to use software programmes, e.g. aspects of Photoshop, so it will have uses which the Keynote/Quicktime combination couldn't deal with but I still feel aggrieved that I have had to spend $99 on software which I didn't need a few months ago.

I too wasted hours this weekend trying to export narrated KN files, which worked flawlessly last spring semester. I too am needing to get these narrated KN files published for my college students by the end of this week. Perhaps purchasing QuickTime Pro and pasting the audio file works, but that still does not solve the problem of exporting to iPod or YouTube, which continues to give a "not enough disk space" error message regardless of how small or large my presentation is (plenty of GBs on my computer too). Also, when I export to Flash, the movie works, but converting the Flash file results in error messages (saying the file is corrupt. I have tried this many times with new KN presentations).
Apple needs to fix this. I bought iWork'08 specifically for KN's exporting capabilities, otherwise I might as well have just stuck with PPT. I'd like to believe that Apple is working on the issue and that we will not be forced to purchase yet more software. In either case, any information by Apple clarifying this dilemma would be very helpful to and appreciated by all of us. Apple, will this be fixed in the future or should we buy new software?

    Roddy,
My frustration with people that paste incomplete responses
... and it's not just those few posts of yours but from a number of other people throughout all the many sub-forums...
is that people post a question and hope for guidance.
Responses are hopefully given so that the original poster and ANYONE ELSE that reads the thread in the future can get the assistance with what might be phrased as one-stop-shopping -- right there in the forum thread.
Your forum reply might prompt other people to recall an additional tidbit of help and they will add their reply to a thread and so on, and so on. In the end there is an almost complete solution to whatever issue prompted the initial post.
Think of these community forums as an imitation of a helpdesk from a support structure of a complex technical company. The sum total of all the thousands of posts and tens of thousands of replies create a knowledge base that complements the official knowledge base of the company.
I do look forward to you contributing to that knowledge base.

    Sean KTN,
I am glad your CertView issue is sorted out, could you please send a note to [email protected] anyway and let them know what happened, when it started and when it was resolved. Please give them as much info as possible, including your SSO info as well as your candidate ID. If there is a bug in CertView, we need to do a little research and get it sorted out. Please reference this thread in your email simply by stating that this is in reference to a thread on the OTN Forum that was refered to them earlier by Brandye Barrington and provide a link to the thread. This way, they will have some background info. It is often difficult to follow up on issues in the forum because we don't have all the candidate's info.
To the other candidate who was also having trouble with this issue. Please do the same.
Regarding the OPN Certified Specialist designation; unfortunately, this has been confusing from the beginning. There were also some issues with rules in CertView from the beginning. We hope that we have all the rules sorted out now. This would account for being "de-certified" on some of the OPN designations on some of your certifications. All certifications do not qualify for the OPN Certified Specialist designation - only certain, select certifications. You can find the qualifying list on our website here http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=342.
Regarding the OPN Certified Specialist certificates: in order to avoid too much more confusion, the decision was made to automatically send OPN Certified Specialist certificates only to candidates who obtain the qualifying certifications from December 1, 2009 (which is when the program was launched) forward. We will provide certificates upon request to candidates who had the OPN Certified Specialist added to certifications that were obtained before that date. What we wanted to avoid was randomly sending certificates to candidates who may not be aware of the program and adding confusion to a confusing situation. Please send an email to [email protected] and request to receive the OPN Certified Specialist certificates for your qualifying certifications. You may also want to confirm with the team your understanding of which certifications qualify so that you'll know what you are receiving.
We know that the roll out of this OPN program has been confusing and we hope to clear up the confusion more and more as we move forward. Thanks to all for your patience as we iron out the details!
    Thanks,
    Brandye Barrington

Certification Program ManagerThat's fine. Brandye, I've submitted the note to [email protected] already.

  • OBIEE forum moderation

    Hi,
How does one go about becoming a moderator?
The OBIEE forum (Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition is in dire need of moderators, suffering from poor questions but even worse, terrible answers. It has become an echo chamber of mediocrity, with points being awarded by people who don't know any better. The result is posters with "guru" status dispensing awful advice and at times, plain wrong advice.
I and several others in the OBIEE world would like to help restore the forum to the level that it should be, to help cut down the poor quality answers, and as a net result improve the OBIEE online community overall. I have seen other forums on OTN that are of very high quality, such as the TimesTen one, and there is no reason why the OBIEE one couldn't be the same, with a bit of TLC and the odd pointy stick.
    thanks.

In general the moderators have been asked to do the job by the OTN admin. How we were selected... I'm not sure, I guess they just liked our virtual faces. :D
The forums will soon be getting an upgrade, and I know the admin are looking to review who's who and how many moderators they have etc. (I believe there should be people within Oracle itself who are responsible for some level of moderation of the various forums, so perhaps they'll be getting a kick).
I'll certainly highlight your request to the admin so they can take on board what you've said.

  • Is this forum moderated?

Is this forum moderated/monitored by a Sun representative?

While I agree that including a service wrapper for Windows would be useful, this functionality is not part of the product. The J2EE SDK is not intended for production use, but rather for development and testing purposes.
It appears that the Java Service Wrapper, which you apparently are familiar with, was used to wrap JBoss as a Windows service. I'd imagine the procedure do the same thing to the App Server's default domain is similar.

  • The iPhone Forum's getting violent...

Is there anyway we can report those threads in the iPhone forum? I admit I did reply to one, but I wouldn't mind if they were all deleted. It's really annoying, and I don't believe they are technical questions at all.

    Hi bcr88!
The Hosts are monitoring, and taking necessary action in the Forum, when warranted.
And there is a Report this post function for  Discussions Level 2 and above members, that is being heavily utilized!
But there are so many, that I'm sure it's hard to keep up with them.
Hopefully things will cool down in a few days.

    ali,
From what I've seen they aren't doing a very good or even logical job. Posts that definitely should be deleted are left while ones that either shouldn't be deleted (at least in the first cullings) are gone immediately. If it is the sheer volume then perhaps the forum should be moderated. Then the posts would only show up after the moderators have approved them.
BTW, what are the fees for higher level status, or is it based on how long you've been a subscriber?

  • What About Moderators in the New Forum?

Read the spam thread for awhile and you will see that moderation works well in these webx forums
You will also see messages concerning the LACK of moderation over in the cfusion side of things
Will the new forum software/structure allow for "this" moderation to continue, or will it fall away to "that" style of non-moderation?

Actually, on that note: how does one double-check that they've managed to link their user here with an Adobe ID?
The first umpteen dozen times I tried to do this the login to the Adobe ID would time out -- something I frankly get quite a lot when I try to login anytime with my Adobe ID. I'm not sure what's going on there.
I just tried to link my users here a few minutes ago and got the same time out. So I opened another window and tried logging in manually somewhere else. On my fourth or fifth try (after double-checking the password with the 'forgot your password?' function) it went through. Satisfied I had the right user/pass combo, I went back to the timed out page and hit fresh. It came up with some window asking to confirm I wanted to login with my (correct) Adobe ID and I said 'confirm'. So I *think* I'm linked, but I don't see any visual cue. At least, it doesn't ask me when I login anymore.
At any rate, is there way to verify it at our end? It'd be nice to have that peace of mind. Also, it'd be nice if I could find out why I timeout 90% of the time I try to login with my Adobe ID -- is it just that overloaded with users logging in?
