TOC Missing

Hi,
I am trying to publish a robohelp project to the intranet and
although my TOC is there and publishes fine when I create a chm it
does not appear on the intranet. The Contents tab is there but
empty. I have the TOC and Index checkbox ticked on my window
description, when I work through the wizard to set up the publish I
have the Contents(defualt) checkbox ticked on the toolbar buttons
page.
Any ideas as to what else I can check, is there some way to
look at the output files and see what is being written, I do not
know which files in the output are my TOC?
Thanks for any help
Erika

Craig,
I am trying to publish the file as web help. The TOC does not
appear when I publish as web help.
If I create a chm file the TOC does appear but as you say I
cannot use a chm over the intranet. This is why we are moving to
the intranet version, all the other projects which I have published
as web versions work fine, it is only this project which does not
show the TOC in the intranet version. Any ideas why?
Thanks
Erika

    Intermittent missing ToC in WebHelp.
The Table of Contents often appears, sometimes doesn't. The
pane is always there, but all of the ToC items are missing. The
Index, Search and Glossary work normally.
Everything works OK on my desktop PC (Windows XP) but not on

    Any ideas please?

    Hi Colum,
Blue Sky were boasting support for Windows CE as far back as
    RH 5.5.
However! I seem to have found a fix. It's to do with how fast
the device can load files, as they are all stored on a SD memory
    card.
I had originally used the option "Optimise speed for Local
PC", and it was this type of build that had the problems.
Reading into the Help Guide, it seemed that the "Web site
(Internet)" option might be better suited to slow download times -
or in this case, how fast the program could load files from the SD
    card.
The new version, when tested, worked over 80 times in a row,
    without fault.
    Fix found!
    Thanks for your help Colum.

  • TOC missing data

I am trying to produce a Table of Contents for a CS3 document and quite a few of the items that should be in the TOC are missing. I am creating the TOC from one paragraph style and have checked that all the data that I want to appear is set to that style, but when I generate the TOC there is content missing.
The text is all contained in tables, in cells defined by cells which are all the same cell style.
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks

Thanks - I should probably have mentioned that the document in question is part of a book of several documents - all composed of tables in the same way (it's a technical catalogue). The TOCs seem to be working OK in the other documents.

  • TOC missing with Sections

One of our apps is divided into sections. Each section has items that need to appear in the TOC. However, they have gone missing (even though I have unticked "Hide from TOC"). In other apps I have seen that you can have both sections and still list items in the TOC. So how come they have disappeared? What have we done wrong?
    Thanks.

    Lauri,
If you still have a problem on Mac, some things to look at:
Generate DHTML > Java Applet > HTML
Mac won't use DHTML from RH5, but will follow RH's built-in
    alternative code.
Also, have a look at Peter's topic on Browsers. Some of the
code patches he suggests should help you.

    Hi John
Is this for .CHM or WebHelp? If it's WebHelp, you need some
images. You may obtain some by
    clicking
    here.
If it's for compiled .CHM, you need to look at the Single
Source Layout properties. Click the Advanced... button, then the
TOC Styles tab. Click to enable Lines from Root, then you will be
    able to choose Plus/Minus Squares.
Hope this helps a smidge... Rick

  • TOC missing pages & strange order

I just noticed that when I let RoboHelp AutoCreate the TOC it is not including all the pages, I have noticed this in one particular folder:
    Project Manager
    HTML Files (Topics)
         Database
              Connection Issues
              Database BackupRestore
              Mirroring
In the TOC it only shows
    Database
         Database BackupRestore
I cannot see anythning different in how the pages are set up or in their properties and I havent found this issue happen in any of the other pages/folders.
One other issue is that the TOC isn't ordering alphabetically even though it is ordered alphabetically in the Project Manager. Is there a better way than manually ordering the pages/folders after you have autocreated the TOC?
    Thanks very much
    Tom

There appears to be a problem where some of the books are formatted in an older epub format that is not supported by the iBook reader. For non DRMed books you can pull the book into a tool for publishing to epub and republish the book which will fix the problem.
At this point it appears that Apple either needs to ask the publisher of the various books with this problem to reformat them for the newer epub standard or they need to adjust iBooks to handle the older format. I am no up to 5 books like this out of the ones I have bought. ::sigh::

  • All content and toc missing? buttons reordered... some added?

one of a few help systems used in our online app is not
working. the window appears, at the right size, colors, etc... but
has the buttons along the top swapped out, one extra button, some
extra buttons in the toc - but the toc is empty and NO contents
    appear.
any ideas? i'm thinking server issues... but i can't figure
this out. i haven't published this or any project to this server in
prob months. i republish this project to my test server and it
    works fine.
    any help greatly appreciated!

    Hi sarahintysons
Does the project generate and display correctly on your local
PC? If so, server issues it is! You may want to refresh all the
associated swarm of files to ensure everything is up to snuff. It
could be that the server experienced a crash, IT restored things
and didn't tell you. And possibly the restore didn't go exactly as
planned as far as your project is concerned.
    Cheers and good luck! Rick

  • Missing Topics in TOC

When I generate webhelp the TOC comes out fine. When I
generate either a word or .pdf file the first two topics/books are
missing. They are listed in the Chapter Layout. The headings are
the same as the other topics that are printing in the TOC. Any
    suggestions?

    Just noodling here a little . . .
    1. Which heading style(s) are you using for topic titles? Are
they consistently applied for all topics, looking at the html view?
Are there any stray spaces or html code immediately before the
    <begin heading> tags?
    2. Are you generating print doc with the project's style
    mapping dot, or some other?
    3. Did you select "Maintain HTML heading levels"?
In points 2 and 3, I don't know whether these settings (or
which option) may be causing the problem; just suggesting that you
change one at a time to test print output.

  • Heading 1 level missing from TOC?

I have this little RH 7 sample project.
When converting to PDF using 'Printed Documentation Wizard',
the primary Heading 1 level is NOT included in the MS Word/PDF
    'Table of Contents'.
I'm not using any MS Word templates, just the project's CSS
    styles.
Arcrobat PDFMaker settings in MS Word are set to default and
    include Heading 1-9.
I've searched and searched but I don't know how to include
this Heading 1 level in the TOC.
When checking the MS Word 2003 document through Insert
    >> Reference >> Index and Tables, the Heading 1 level
is missing from the tab 'Table of Contents'.
When adding the Heading 1 level there through 'Options'
button, the TOC updates correctly, but I don't know how to include
this Heading 1 level through RH.
    Sample project
    here
A note on the sample project:
You'll see that every topic title associated with TOC book is
excluded from PDF through conditional build tags.
This was done so prevent titles from being printed twice in
    PDF.
For example, in the TOC there's an item titled 'Balance
sheet', the associated topic Balance_sheet.htm has exactly the same
    title 'Balance sheet'.
To prevent this title from being printed twice in PDF, the
topic title was excluded through conditional build tag.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Herman

    > > Are you sure the print layout is 100% the same on
both PCs, particularly the Build Expression?
    > I'll check again this evening when I have access to the
    other PC.
I took a copy of the project on the rogue machine, copied it
to the second machine, ran the printed documentation wizard and
checked the settings. The result is as expected. I get the TOC with
the correct headings, the second one in my PDF.
In the meantime I've also compiled the printed documentation
on a third PC (with XP + PDF plugin that comes with RoboHelp). The
result is the wrong TOC, the first one in my PDF.
    > Try generating on the rogue machine to just Word, not
the PDF. When the document opens in Word instead of reinserting the
TOC, right click to the right of the TOC and select Update Field.
    Does that correct it?
I'll try that tomorrow when I have access to that PC.
    Very weird.
    Thanks again Peter.

  • Topic missing in Word TOC only, but OK in document

Sorry for yet another print issue.. I know Peter Grainge's
site and have also done some research but could not solve this
    problem. This applies to RH7.
Certain topics are always missing in the TOC of the printed
documentation. If I delete the TOC and generate it new, then the
topic shows correctly. If I only update the TOC without deleting,
then the Topic does not show. It is generated in the actual
document correctly with all its content. I have tried deleting a
topic in RoboHelp and creating it new but without effect. There is
no pattern concerning the topics missing and the file/topic names
are short with characters and numbers mixed, but no spaces or
    special characters.
Cond. build tags are used in the project, but not applied to
the concerned topics on content nor topic level. There is no
special content in them, only plain text. No error message during
output. I have tried wrapping them in books or placing them in
various positions in the TOC, no luck.
Do you have any idea what the problem could be?

    Welcome to the forum.
1] "...the tool overlooks certain files."
Online help and printed documentation generate in different
ways. Online help includes all topics not excluded by a build
expression. Printed documentation is the opposite. It only prints
what you tell it to print in the print layout, and even then it
will refuse if the topic is excluded by a build expression. For
good reason the print layout can include an excluded topic
(sometimes you generate the layout with the expression, sometimes
    without).
If it says a file is missing and it really is not covered by
the above, I'm struggling to see how. It suggests a corrupt CPD at
first glance but if that was corrupt, the file would not show in
Project Manager in the first place unless the file is missing and
the corruption is causing it display regardless. Have you checked
the file is there, using Windows Explorer? Somehow I don't think
this is it. Is there no other clue in the Output view?
2] Changes don't percolate through as not everyone wants
that. Frustrating for those who do. Try Insert | Field | Title.
That will at least keep your topics inline with any changes.
3] The online TOC and print layout TOC are again deliberately
not the same. Many people don't want them the same. First time you
get the online TOC but then whatever you save in print layout
    sticks.
If you always want them to be the same, simply click the Move
All Left icon and then the Move All Right icon.
If you use RH7 you can have multiple TOCs and you could have
    one designated for print.
Bullets and numbering have always been a pain as you can see
on my site but I think most of the blame is with Word. If you
follow some Word forums, I have seen more than one guru with the
opinion that bullets and numbering have not worked properly in Word
    since Word 2.
Working with bullets and numbering the way I describe, which
I accept is limiting, I never have to reformat my documents for
    that reason.

  • TOC - First 2 characters missing

I have Robohelp 8 running locally.  I use a word template for printed documentation in word format.  In the TOC the first 2 characters are missing i.e. my first topic is Introduction so in the TOC, it shows : troduction........  The rest appears fine.  Any ideas ?

Set Word to show bookmarks and look at the Introduction heading.
I don't know why the second bookmark is showing after second character, try looking at the HTML.
I trashed your TOC and inserted a new one that was fine even with that bookmark. Try putting the TOC in your template again.

  • RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10

As the title says, RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10. Any ideas for recovering or importing the x5 TOC and index?
Before this is suggested, auto-create is not an option.

    Hi there
Perhaps give this a try. From the Project Manager pod, right-click the Table of Contents area and choose "New Table of Contents". Give it a name and enable the "Copy existing Table of Contents" check box. Then click the Ellipsis icon on the far right side. See if you have a .HHC file in the folder. Odds are, you will. That will be the existing (missing) TOC.
Hopefully that will work. If so, repeat the process for the index.
I think when upgrading the project something goes wrong with naming.

  • Missing TOC Book in Merged WebHelp

It's late on a Friday, and I'm brain dead. I am using a merged WebHelp structure (based on Peter Grainge's model with parent project only having one topic and using redirect to first child project) for my company's disaster recovery plan (separate department plans plus a master company plan). I recently added a new department plan. When I generate the merged help, the new department plan (Marketing) appears in the TOC but another one that should be there (Underwriting) is not showing up. Does this have to do with the length of the TOC? Seems like I recall having a problem with long TOC's before (in another job and project) but not sure if that's the issue or not.
Any guidance on where to troubleshoot would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I do have the same problem in Firefox. Just to clarify, I'm not viewing the merged plan in SharePoint; I am generating and viewing it locally on my C: drive. Copying to SharePoint is the last thing I do, so I haven't even gotten to that point yet, and when I do it, I delete all files on the server and copy all files again to it.
I tried regenerating AND publishing all of the plans to my C: drive (separate locations with same folder structure). I can either get the Marketing plan to show up or the Underwriting plan but not both at the same time.
Here is screen shot of the parent file TOC. They are all there. What am I missing? Have you encountered this issue before on the forum? I tried searching but couldn't find a situation that exactly matched mine. The Marketing plan only has 18 topics in it with 6 folders in the project file. The Underwriting plan has 33 topics in it with 6 folders in project file.
However, the IT plan, which comes before those two, has 226 topics and 7 folders, some of which have multiple levels of sub-folders going 3 or 4 levels down. I can send you screen shots of the structure, if you like. It's the most complicated one of the bunch. I've got to get this resolved as I am supposed to publish 1Q updates this week. And of course, I can't merge any additional department plans until I can determine where the problem lies.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • RH7 WebHelp Output Missing TOC, Index, Search

I updated my RH6 HTML project to RH7 HTML. When I publish,
everything looks good. I uploaded all project files to my company's
server, and a coworker saved those files to her computer. When my
coworker publishes WebHelp from her computer, the TOC, Index, and
Search components are missing. Can anyone assist? Thank you!

Thank goodness I found this thread!
I'm having the exact same issue. I'm using version 5.0.2 of
RoboHelp, and when I generate WebHelp (the collection of HTML
files) and test it on my PC, it works fine. When I copy the files
over to my company's server, my TOC is missing, Serch is missing,
    Index is missing.
I tested this with other PCs in my company, and some display
the content fine (from the server location), others don't.
I noticed that I get an error message "flash" at the bottom
of IE when I mouse over the TOC frame. It states "Load: class
WebHelp not found". I've double checked, and all of the files that
are generated on my PC are also in the same folder that I copied
    over to the server.
Could RoboHelp be having issues with certian servers, or
versions of IE w/ certain servers? This doesn't seem to be a
blanket issue with all users of this information, only some.

  • Preview - missing TOC

I apologize if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find anything with search.
I downloaded a huge PDF file and, as is my habit, right clicked and selected "Open with Preview". Everything was great until I did a SAVE AS (with defaults). Then the Table of Contents disappeared; even the button to show it was gone. I tried quitting Preview and reopening the file. Same deal, no TOC. Acrobat was the same. Saving the page right from Safari and then using Preview to open it works ok; the TOC appears normally. What am I missing?
Here's the URL, but be warned it's huge!

    iMac 17   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   Preview Version 3.0.8 (409)

    Let's cut the BS.
    ***THIS IS A BUG.****
The reason very few people report it is that 99.99% of the victims never realised it happened. If you download a pdf it is stored in /tmp and opens by default in Preview. You then immediately do a 'Save as' if you want to keep it. That destroys the TOC if there is one. The user does not notice because they never knew there was a TOC! Hence no bug reports.
I only noticed because I pulled down a 13MB 2500 page document which took a significant time to process and I watched the TOC vanish in front of my eyes.
I have wondered for months why very few of my downloaded pdfs seemed to have TOCs. Now I know why.
I have reproduced this on two different machines, a PowerMac G5 and a MacBook Pro Core Duo. It is a rock solid reproducible bug.
