  • My 4th generation iPod nano was washed, screen is super dim, how can I fix this?

So a few months ago, I accidentally left my blue 4th generation iPod nano in my pant pocket. My clothes were set to wash with the iPod in my pants. I'd completely forgot about it being in there. After finding out what had happened, I let the iPod soak in a jar of rice for about a month. I took it out to see if anything had worked but it wouldn't turn on.
Thinking it might need a charge, I plugged it in and found that it turns on only while it's plugged in and instantly turns off when unplugged. I also noticed that the screen is extremely dim, even when put on full brightness. It's as if I turned the brightness all the way down, even though I'm putting it all the way up. I also tried connecting it to iTunes to try to see what I could find. The attempt was unsuccesful as the iPod went unrecognized on iTunes v10.5.
I'm not sure what else I could do to fix this. Has anything similar to this happened to you before?
Also, I have a 4th generation iPod touch and iPhone 4. I honestly don't need this iPod at all, but it'd still be nice to get it fixed for extra use.
Thanks for any help in advance!

I would recommend taking it in to your local Apple Store to see what the people at the Genius Bar can do for you.

  • My 4th generation ipod nano is stuck on the apple screen even after i reset it

My 4th generation ipod nano (the nano chromatic) is stu ck on the apple screen, i tried to restore it by putting it in disk mode like apple support stated but its not showing as connected in iTunes, everytime i reset it, it just shows me the apple logo and nothing else, my warranty has long expired and i need my ipod so please help !

I assume by a reset you mean holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear correct?  Keep in mind this may take a number of tries.
If that doesn't work, try connecting your iPod touch to your iTunes library in Restore Mode using the instructions from this Apple support document.

  • Having problems with 4th generation iPod Nano. Desperate.

I'm having this problem with my 4th generation iPod Nano. Whenever the iPod is connected to iTunes I get message saying "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod “IPOD”. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings." However, I have music on the iPod that is purchased through different accounts on different computers (some of which are no longer existent) meaning I can't afford to restore and lose my music. Is there any way I can recover my music without having to restore the iPod?

  • My 4th generation ipod nano backlight no longer working. Any suggestions

My 4th or 5th generation ipod nano backlight is no longer working.  Any suggestions?

    Hi grecokev,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
You mention that your iPod nano is no longer recognized by iTunes after an update. Reinstalling iTunes is a good troubleshooting step, and if the device still doesn't appear in iTunes, try the following steps next:
Turn off your computer and your iOS device or iPod, then turn them on again.
Check to make sure that you've installed all required updates for your computer.
Verify that the 30-pin to USB cable or Lightning Connector to USB cable is free of debris and not damaged. If another cable is available, test with that cable instead.
USB cables that are bundled with third-party products or accessories might work only to charge those products and might not transmit data. Also, if you're using a third-party case or extended battery pack, try removing the case and connecting the Apple-supplied USB cable directly to your device.
You can find these steps in this troubleshooting article:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
If the steps above don't solve it, see the section of the article called "Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed" for some additional steps to try on your PC.
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy

  • Can i use the same charger for a 4th generation ipod nano with a 5th generation ipod nano

I am buying a nano 5th generation ipod with no accessories> will my 4th generation charging lead work on it

    Yes.

  • 4th generation ipod nano not working

All of the sudden my 4th generation, 8GB ipod nano isn't working. I had a 2004 G4 aluminum Powerbook that started to go so I bought a refurbished Macbook Pro a couple weeks ago. On my Powerbook, the screen all of the sudden went dark. I researched what might be the cause and found it to possibly be the inverter board. I bought the part and installed it to no avail. Which probably means it's the mother board... which is why I bought the new Macbook. Before the screen went dark, my left USB port and audio in was having problems (probably the mother board dying). I would always charge my ipod from that left USB port. Could this be why now it's acting up and not even recognizing it on my old Powerbook and new Macbook? When I plug it into either computer, the apple start up screen shows, then it shows the "Low Battery" screen, then it briefly shows my playlist, movies, etc. screen... and then goes back to the apple start up screen, and filters through this process as I keep it plugged in. I'm assuming the worst but hopefully there's a solution and I won't have to now buy a new ipod   Thanks for any help that anyone can provide.

Anyone ever had this problem before?

  • I have a 4th generation iPod nano 4th and when I turn it on, the screen won't progress passed the main screen with the Apple logo. What should I do?

I have a 4th generation 8GB iPod nano and it will not progress past the blank screen with the white apple logo on it. I have charged it fully and tried to restart it by pressing and holding the menu buttons for 3-7 seconds. The devices screen will turn off and then, after a couple of seconds, the screen with the Apple logo will appear again. This screen will remain lit until the iPod runs out of battery again. I have tried plugging it into my Macbook Pro. I have the newest versions of iTunes software and OS X Mavericks. The computer will not recognize the iPod and the device will not show up in the computers list of devices. I looked up the troubleshooting for the device and found out how to put the device into disk mode. I followed the intructions but the iPod would not go into disk mode. The screen still displayed the Apple logo and would not set into disk mode. I fear that I have run out of options. I have come to this forum in hopes that I can still salvage my device. If there is anything I can do, please loet me know so I can try it. If not, I am affraid I will have to go to an Apple store of authorized retailer and have it repaired or replaced.

Try manually connecting the device to your PC in Disk Mode and then restoring it iTunes.
    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
Putting iPod devices with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode
If necessary, verify that your iPod has a Click Wheel.
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it is charged.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will should say "Do not disconnect".
If you are having difficulty putting your iPod into Disk Mode, set it on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center. If you are still unable to put your iPod into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.

  • Does the 7th generation ipod nano have the same storage capacity as the 4th generation ipod nano

Just bought a ipod nano 7th generation to replace my 16gb 4th generation nano as its battery life is getting shorter
Went to load my library on to my new ipod and it could not take all the songs, wheras my 4th generarion had room to spare
so i have had to uncheck a lot of songs to get my new ipod to accept loading

Need to add I have restored the ipod twice with no change to storage capacity
    'others' is showing
    4th gen    119 mb

  • How can I trade my 4th generation iPod for a 5th generation

How can I do that if I don't live close enough to an Apple store?

Apple will only give you a 10% recycling discount if you turn in an old iPod when you purchase a new one. Better off selling it yourself.

  • My 4th generation Ipod nano is no longer listed as a device managed by my iTunes account.

I have done all of the troubleshooting suggestions by Apple with the exception of restoring my iPod.  I have recharged my device, tried a different USB port, updated the software but my device is still not listed as a managed device with my iTunes account.  I have also signed out of iTunes and signed back in but that has not worked either.
Do I have to have an iTunes Match subscription to have my device back on my account?
I will try restoring my device but I have to download my music first.
    Thanks

    Hello, Pete.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when an iPod is not recognized by iTunes or the computer.
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
Usually the resolution is updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.
