"Trying to log in to this POP account failed"

I've set up a POP account in the Mail app and my details are getting rejected so I can't access my email.
I'm also being asked by a pop-up box in Mail to reneter my password and check the 'save in Keychain' box, which I've done many times to no good effect.
I've triple-checked(!) the port settings, password, username and online settings (the account is active and verified by my emai provider). I also relaunched Mail and did repair permissions FWIW...
Please advise.
(No threadjacks please).

Thanks for asking. Everything was set up alright.
I went to GoDaddy and checked all my details again, then the POP began working ok, by some miracle of digital magic....
I really can't say what was wrong and what the solution was. I can only offer the tip to return to one's email provider and login.

  • How do I stop the popup that tells me I entered the wrong MobileMe password? Since the day I entered the wrong one, every time I turn it on now, the notification pops up- even if I'm not trying to log into my Mobile Me account.

How do I stop an "invalid password" notification popup from popping up continually? From the first time I entered a  wrong Mobile Me password, even when I am not trying to access my account, it continually pops up over whatever I have on the screen. I can drag it down out of the way, but when I hit the "ok" button, in a few seconds, it pops back up again. Help, this is so annoying!

Try opening Keychain Access (found in /Applications/Utilities), then locate your MobileMe password there (it'll have the same name as your MobileMe username, and will have a MobileMe icon) and delete it.

  • I am trying to log in to my MSN Hotmail e-mail account, and after entering my login info, I get the error message that Firefox cannot find the server. Why not?

When trying to log into my MSN Hotmail account (@msn.com), after I enter my credentials, Firefox gives me an error message that "Firefox can't find the server at blu152.mail.live.com". I am able to log in easily from the same computer using Internet Explorer. I think this problem just started yesterday. Why is Firefox unable to connect to my e-mail account?

  • Trying to log into the SMTP account failed.

I am traveling with my new MacBook Pro, and when trying to send email, I get the following message:
"Trying to log into this SMTP account failed. Please make sure the username and password are correct."
I have four accounts, and it happens to all four accounts including my .mac account. Receiving email on these accounts through Mail is no problem. There is only a problem with sending it. These accounts work from work and at home and other places, wireless or otherwise. They only do not work from hotels. Very strange. Any ideas?

  • Can't log in to POP account - can't retrieve new email

For no apparent reason, I can no longer connect/log in to my POP account, so I can't retrieve new email - I can still send email. My connection to the internet works fine, my mail software is current (Mail 2.1.1), and my POP account settings haven't changed at all (same username, password, etc.)
    Please help.

  • POP account. Can't send emails. CD test comes out OK.

So I'm trying to set up this POP account. I've set it up. The mail can be read, the connection doctor says that I can connect to both the POP account and the SMTP (also says I don't need to login to the SMTP server). When I try to send out the message I get this error:
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The sender address <mail address> <same mail address> was rejected by the server
SMTP is using port 25 and there is no SSL encryption enabled in this instance. Anybody have any idea what's causing this? Everything seems to be in order.

Nevermind, it's working all of a sudden. I logged back in and tried sending something and it worked. It might have been solved when I deleted the account and started from scratch.
Must be something buggy with how Mail retains it's settings. Because I was getting some odd behaviour as I tinkered with the settings in an effort to get it right.
The initial reason I started the account from scratch was when the connection doctor stopped testing the smtp connection. I tried to delete the smtp off the registry and re-create it but the CD did not recognize it. So I started the whole thing from scratch. Thanks for the help anyways.

  • "Sender Name is Invalid" (can't send email from POP account) iPhone 2.1

I updated from V2.0.2 to V2.1 today. I also swapped out my original iPhone EDGE for a new iPhone EDGE due to unrelated problems with the speaker.
Upon testing things after restoring from backup to the new phone I discovered that I could no longer SEND email from my POP account. I could receive email just fine on that account. Sending and receiving email on my MobilMe account also worked, as did sending and receiving email via the POP account while on the Mac computer I use to sync with this iPhone.
After digging into this with AppleCare we discovered that somehow the Port Address for the Outgoing Mail Server for that POP account had been changed from 25 to 587 on the iPhone.
Changing it back to 25 fixed my problem.
We don't know whether the problem was due to the 2.1 upgrade or due to something in the restore process after swapping the phones.
If you get the error message "Sender Name is Invalid" while trying to send email from a POP account on your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select the line for your POP account.
Now scroll down to the Outgoing Mail Server entry which should show "SMTP" and the name of the outgoing mail server for that POP account. Select that line. This will display a list of servers with your POP account server showing at the top as the Primary Server. Select that line.
In the panel that displays, check the Server Port. If it is something odd like 587, that may be your problem. Select the line and you can edit it to something more normal like 25. Touch the "SMTP" button at the top left of the number entry screen to accept that new value.
We discovered that after correcting that value on the iPhone it STAYS corrected even after doing a new Sync with iTunes, or after MobileMe syncs.
    --Bob

    Sorry you had problems Bob.
Depending on the mail service you are using, Port 25 or Port 587 are usually acceptable for outgoing
SMTP mail. Many cafes will block the customary port 25 to prevent spammers from using their
    wireless access.
There is a superb tutorial posted here:
    http://www.webmail.us/docs/support/Macintosh-OSX-Mail.pdf
Also be sure for each mail account to turn ON the secondary AT&T server shown at the bottom
of the SMTP server list for each account -- it will make your transition from wireless to Edge
to 3G networks much more reliable.
Thanks for sharing what you've learned. Hope this helps.

  • I can't log in to my GoPhone account to refill my balance

I repeatedly tried to log in to my GoPhone account starting at about 11:45pm 7/27/15 and kept getting a 'This webpage is not available' message. I also dialed 611 and your 800 number from my phone, entered my phone number, and was told there was no account associated with my phone number.  My balance expires either on the 27th or 28th. I wanted to verify for sure when it expired and add money so my balance doesn't expire. I'd better not lose my balance just because of problems on your end.

    Hi there
I’m sorry to hear you have been unable to access your GoPhone account online. I’d be happy to help! Can you please send me a private message by Clicking Here and include the following information?

  • Trying to Log-in on AIM on safari on Iphone

I get to the sign in mode but the I phone will not put the cursor on where I need to sign in and the keyboard doesn't show up.I think there must be something wrong with AIM site b/c I can log in from my Imac and I can log in to Yahoo on my IPhone. Anyone having the same problem?

There are some folks reporting the same problem when trying to log in to their Hotmail account via MS's website so I think this is a problem with the website provider.
Are you trying to access email or use AIM for instant messaging?
If the latter, there are several iPhone web apps available for this purpose and here are two.

  • I can not delete mail pop account in iphone 4S

    Hello
I have set POP mail account earlier but I do not want this account now. I am trying to delete the accont but there is not any button delete account as IMAP mail account have. What is happening? How can I delete the account?

There isn't any reason this POP account should not be able to be deleted. Are there any Restrictions set on the phone? Who is the provider of this email account? I'll assume that you are trying to delete it from Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars? You go to the Mail section, select the account in question, scroll to the bottom of the account page and select delete. However, you are saying when you do this, the Delete Account button does not exist, correct?
The next troubleshooting step after a reset is a restore from backup. You can try that if you like. What happens if you go into the account and toggle the on off button at the top of the account?

  • Bellsouth pop account set up with iPhone 3G

I have spent a very frustrating afternoon trying to set up my Bellsouth pop account email on my new iPhone. I have searched the web for advice and found something that tells me to change some advanced settings. However, I cannot seem to find where to get to the advanced settings when adding a mail account.
If anyone has successfully set up a Bellsouth.net email account please help. This works fine on my Verizon Blackberry but I hate the BB and love my new iPhone .

You must be missing something then. If you and your father on the same POP3 platform, then 3G and original iphone should behave the same.
Did you maybe turn off encryption for your settings and not his? Something, somewhere must be different.
BTW, can he get POP3 email from a desktop PC/Mac or is this a new account for him? Maybe it has not been full set up on the server side.

  • POP Account Out-going server only?

Is it possible to have a POP account set up ONLY for use with an out-going server?
I am currently forwarding the POP emails to my .Mac account (doing this instead of checking the server because it won't sync with my iMac and iPhone being a POP account). I don't need the incoming server. I just want to be able to send out-going emails using this POP account alias - not my .Mac alias.
I am trying to prevent the duplicate incoming emails.
    Can I do this?
    Thanks,
    Cheryl

    Cheryl,
I never said anything about not selecting Enable this account -- that must be done. After the account is set up, click on Mailbox in the menubar, and put the cursor on Online status, then click for this one account to Take Offline.

  • MacBook Air (mid-2011) updated to EFI 2.9.1 - now password/trackpad doesn't work properly when trying to log in from sleep.

Hi, hopefully someone can help me with an issue I've had with my mid-2011 MacBook air.
It was running fine until I installed the 2.9.1 EFI update from the app store; I believe this fixes problems caused with the 2.9 update however since installing it I've now got a problem when trying to log in. This is what happens:
I close the lid or put it to sleep.
I open the lid and the login screen appears.
The trackpad is non-responsive and I am unable to enter my password as the keyboard is unresponsive.
I then set the machine to sleep, wait a few minutes and wake it up again - still unresponsive.
The only thing that works is to hold the power key down to shut it down and start it up afresh. This time I am able to move the cursor and enter my password.
Its was perfectly fine prior to the 2.9.1 update (and I've not installed anything else in the meantime) but since the 2.9.1 update the above login problem has happened.
This is my Macbook Air's system (10.9.4) info if its of any help to anyone:
         Model Name:    MacBook Air
         Model Identifier:    MacBookAir4,1
         Processor Name:    Intel Core i5
         Processor Speed:    1.6 GHz

    Anyone else had similar problems?

    Hi Roj,
Since the update, I have a different problem (when the laptop is in sleeping mode,  screen turned down, fan runs after a certain...)... Did not have time to contact support yet.
One member suggested me to visit: https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
    Hope it can help...
