Unable to connect to Internet via Airport Express - 'cannot contact server'

I'm unable to connect to the internet via my Airport Express. I'm using OS 10.3.9, and had the same setup with no problems at a previous address, but with a different modem from the same ISP.
My AE is connected - the light is green - and my mac is connected to the network in Internet Connect. But when I open Safari I get an 'unable to contact server' message.
I've tried rebooting everything (modem, AE, Mac), and leaving modem/AE off for several minutes. Also reset the AE, but to no avail.
The connection works fine via Ethernet cable.
Any ideas?

Thanks, I checked out that advice doc (106798), but could not connect to the address (http://17.149.160.49) which is given to test if it's a DNS issue. My ISP says I shouldn't need DNS settings.
The service is PPPoE, and I went into Airport Admin Utility to check if the Airport was configured for this. Under Configure/Internet, I found it was set to 'Ethernet', so changed it to PPPoE. Then when I restarted I got connection status in the bar (and good Airport signal), but status flipped between 'looking for PPPoE host' and 'negotiating PPPoE host', sometimes sticking on one or the other each time I tried rebooting all gear.
Any other ideas?

  • Unable to connect to internet via Airport (wirelessly)

I have 2 Macbooks at my house. One can connect to a password protected wireless connection just fine, the other is unable to. I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 and 10.4.(something) on the other.
When I enter in the WEP code and try to connect to the server, it says that I am unable to. I am 100% positive that the password is correct.
I have tried deleting my preferred networks and my keychain passwords for networks and nothing has worked.
    Thanks you

The computer was allowed to connect before, and has until about a day ago.
I'm not sure what kind of password it is, but I cannot change any of the settings just to put that out there.
I have tried both the Airport icon, and through internet connect. no luck either way.
Not sure about what the router is in, but it should be accessible since it was before and other computers and iPhones can connect to it just fine.

  • HT4623 After ios update on my ipad mini i am unable to connect to internet via cellular connection

i Have update ios 7.0.2 on my ipad mini. But after update of ios 7.0.2 i am unable to connect to internet via cellulau connection. Cellular connection appears on my screen but i get error as "Could not activate cellular data network you are not subscribed to a cellular data service". Cellular connection was working prior to ios 7.0.2 update. Please help.

    GOT MINE FIXED -
THE 7.0.3 update reported my iPhone as LOST or STOLEN  to Verizon.
They suspended my iPhone service immediately (as I would expect them to) and THAT is why I couldn't get on.
Called Verizon wireless - they restored me in 30 seconds - EVERYTHING WORKS AGAIN.
They said "we've been doing this ALL MORNING."
Hope this works for others, too!

Enabling Oracle Management Service to Access My Oracle Support
Unless online access to the Internet is strictly forbidden in your environment, Oracle Management Service should be enabled to access My Oracle Support. This access is necessary to enable updates and patches to be downloaded, for example.
At minimum, the following URLs should be made available through the firewall:
    aru-akam.oracle.com
    ccr.oracle.com
    login.oracle.com
    support.oracle.com
    updates.oracle.com
    About the dontProxyfor Property
When you configure the Oracle Management Service or a Management Agent to use a proxy server, it is important to understand the purpose of the dontProxyFor property, which identifies specific URL domains for which the proxy will not be used.
For example, suppose the following were true:
You have installed the Oracle Management Service and several Management Agents on hosts that are inside the company firewall. These hosts are in the internal .example.com and .example.us.com domains.
You have installed several additional Management Agents on hosts that are outside the firewall. These hosts are installed in the .example.uk domain.
You have configured Enterprise Manager to automatically check for critical software patches on My Oracle Support.
In this scenario, you want the Oracle Management Service to connect directly to the Management Agents inside the firewall without using the proxy server. On the other hand, you want the Oracle Management Service to use the proxy server to contact the Management Agents outside the firewall, as well as the My Oracle Support site, which resides at the following URL:
    http://support.oracle.com
The following properties will prevent the Oracle Management Service from using the proxy server for connections to the Management Agents inside the firewall. Connections to My Oracle Support and to Management Agents outside the firewall will be routed through the proxy server:
    proxyHost=proxy42.example.com
    proxyHost=80
    dontProxyFor=.example.com, .example.us.com
PS: Cygwin has nothing to do with My Oracle Support connection. Cygwin is ONLY required for agent deployment using agent push from OMS.

  • Canny connect to internet with airport express

I was connected to internet with wireless network using airport xpress and D-link DSL-300T cable modemeverything was fine till i did base station fireware update. Now i can only connect wired with usb modem, (my airtunes still works). Airport status is green and states i am connected to internet via ethernet _though safria is unable to find server. Have tried loads of things but to no success. Tried network assist but network password invalid? though it is correct! Also done hard reset on xpress no joy.
Any mac guru s fancy a challenge!?
    Pls.

Likely your ISP uses the PPPoE protocol to connect to clients - and PPPoE doesn't work properly with firmware version 6.2 for the Airport Express.
Downgrade the firmware on your Airport Express back to version 6.1.1 with this software:

  • Can't connect to internet through Airport Express anymore

Suddenly, my PowerBook can't connect to the internet through Airport Express. Monday late afternoon--everything was fine. Put it in sleep, come back a few hours later, can't connect.
Thing is, Airport/wireless is working. Can stream audio to my home stereo.
And the DSL/modem are working. If I connect the machine via ethernet directly, I'm online.
Saw that some other users began having problems with USB/printer connections Monday. Could my problem be related?
    What gives?
    Any ideas?

Hello mnkyby. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds like your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) in not getting a proper IP address from your modem.
    Try this ...
o Connect to the AX's wireless network, and then, run the AirPort Admin Utility.
o Go to the Internet tab.
o Note the value for IP address. (Note: Do not list it here on the forum, just note what it is.)
o Is the IP address what you would expect from your ISP or is it something like: 196.254.x.x?
If the latter, try the following ...
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)

  • Network prefs: "connected to internet via airport"... but can't go online??

I've got steady green lights on my airport express and modem/router; and in Network Preferences it says that I am connected to the internet via Airport (green light here too). BUT, I can't get online with any of my browsers or my mail client. What's going on here? Help appreciated.
    Thanks

If you have a Modem Router combined and an Airport Express
The Express must be set up to NOT DISTRIBUTE IP's.
You do not mention what brand Modem or Router or Modem /Router combined. Your network confiquration can very a little depending on what you are using.
If you are using all Apple Airport products the confiquration is pretty straight forward.
If you are using 3rd party products then the set up can be a little different.
From what you say in your post you are using 2 routers, my quess is the Express is set up to distribute IP's and if your other router is set up this way then thats your problem.

  • Can't connect to Internet via Airport but CAN via Ethernet

Yeah so I have tried TWO different of my AX's and can not connect to the internet via EITHER even though Network Status says "you are connected to the internet via Airport". But, if I hook the ethernet cable directly to the computer from the modem it connects to the internet fine. What am I missing. Oh yeah, and on one of the AX's the "music" tab does not appear next to the "WDS" tab thus not allowing AirTunes on that AX, any ideas on that too? PLEASE HELP!!

CONNECTED!! After resetting the modem, llike you suggested, I am able to get the wireless network back up and running, BUT...I am still having problems with one base station not showing the "music" tab and thus not letting me stream music to it. When I hit "configure" the tab shows for a quick second then disappears. Any idea?

  • Nokia 3230 unable to connect to internet via USB c...

when i use CA-53 cable to connect to internet using nokia pc suite7.0.8.2 (one touch access) an error message pops up "unable to connect to the speified device make sure the modem is configured properly" but i can easily connect to internet via bluetooth   other functions like file manager , contacts , messages and back up can be accessed by using the CA-53 cable

I called a vw dealership (in South Australia) today because I have an iphone5 and a Tiguan and experienced the same thing (after i had purchased the lightening/30pin adapter).
I was advised that the media interface software is not compatible with iphone5.  VW will eventually update the software according to ol'mate at the dealership, but it will be at an expense to the consumer allegedly.
I know that there is a iphone/vw media cable one can purchase from VW however, I believe this to only work with iphone4 or older?
Maybe try an older generation ipod to use for the car if all ur music is in itunes?
if anyone can correct me, I'd be more than happy to know... going to try my older generation ipad and see if there is any truth to the tale.... eventually.  Until then i'll stream via bluetooth :-)

  • 24" imac 2.4 says connected to internet via airport--but does not

I just got a new 2.4ghz 24" aluminum imac. There are three other macs in my house, all of which connect to our wireless network and are able to browse the internet. This new computer can connect to the network, yet it always has one of two problems: either it says it is connected to the network, but can't access the internet, or it says it is connected to the internet via airport, but when you open your web browser, no such luck. Many times when I open the network preference panel, there is no router number assigned. Sometimes there is. I can connect to other networks in the neighborhood that don't require a password just fine (how I'm writing this). Why can this new machine not connect, when all three of the other macs in the house have no problem?
anyone, please help. this is frustrating.
    thanks,
    keegan

OK but, like you, my other machines (PowerPC iMac and Power Book) did seem to work OK while the new iMac was playing-up. It was only when I noticed that the Old iMac had not downloaded some podcasts that I started to look at the router. I now remember having a similar problem a few years ago - frequent failure to automatically log-in to the router, occasional failure of manual log-ins and slow/unreliable connection once logged-in. A new router fixed the problem. It's a real pain but there you are. Must remember to keep receipt of current router and kick-up a fuss if it fails within the guarantee period.
Sorry if this doesn't help but I thought it worthwhile posting my experience over the last 2 days.
Have you tried connecting to your router by ethernet?
I'll let you know if the problem returns but all is sweetness and light at present.

  • Trouble connecting to internet via airport

i can't connect to the internet via airport.  Does anyone know what the problem may be?

There are several items that may be behind this issue.
So troubleshooting them by trial and error is most likely
a way to attempt to resolve the cause, especially with
an older OS X and hardware, while trying to connect to
a newer base station and different newer frequency...
•Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
The above covers several areas of settings and ideas.
If the computer has been online, and now does not work
wirelessly, that may be a matter of an accidental change
in settings; or something turned off that used to be on.
A general overview, w/ examples of settings similar to the above, for 10.3.9/10.4.11 appears here: http://www.tr.txstate.edu/get-connected/computerservices/wireless/encrypted/maco sx-wpa2.html
Is you computer running OS X 10.3.9 Panther? If so,
your built-in AirPort card may be an 802.11b version
and the security protocol would not work with a newer
or modern wi-fi base station (WEP, WPA) unless those
settings were changed. You can turn off security if the
computer is too old to be able to connect with the old
settings for that protocol. Also, a later wireless base
station may not see an old wi-fi card using 802.11/b.
So it is a matter of knowing what you have on either side
of the connection issue; the base station and the wi-fi
card have to use the same frequency and security. Or
there are work-arounds to attempt to correct this matter.
Hopefully you can connect and use the wi-fi internet.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Unable to access internet via Airport Express

Hi. I'm have trouble connecting to the internet using my Airport Express.
When I plug in my DSL modem to the unit, I get the solid green light. My Macbook is able to connect to the airport, and to other computers on the same Airport.
However, none of my computers are able to reach any internet sites. They were even unable to directly ping a remote IP address. However, if I plug my DSL modem directly into my Macbook, bypassing the Airport, it correctly connects to the internet, which leads me to believe the problem is with my Airport.
A couple of oddities which I don't know if they are normal. First, in my MacBook's network prefs, the DNS box is blank. However, I'm connected via DHCP, so I didn't know if that'd matter. In the airport configuration app, under internet, it's also using DHCP, but the box is empty, with the same address as the router (192.168.1.1) greyed out next to it. The IP address is 192.168.1.5. This number is rather different than when I connect to my DSL router directly on my MacBook.
I'm running what I believe to be the newest firmware (6.3).
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks,
    Nathaniel

    Hi,
I solved the problem using the airport express firmware 6.1.1. and erasing all favourites networks in network pref panel to create new ones. You may also check the keychains utility (applications -> utilities). If there is several times the same pass, just keep the latest and erase the others.
    Hope my english is understandable...

  • Both iMac and powerbook can't connect to internet via Airport.

I have an iMac that is directly wired to an airport base station and a G4 powerbook that connects via a card. Neither can connect to the internet. The iMac is set up as follows:
Cable modem > ethernet cable to WAN port on AEBS > ethernet cable from AEBS to iMac.
The powerbook detects the base station and created its own network as soon as it did, yet still nothing. The first and third lights on the AEBS flash as to show activity and I have unplugged the modem to reset it multiple times.
I am completely confused as to what is going on. Can anyone please help?

If it helps any, I'm in the same boat. I've had an AEBS that has worked well until yesterday. Now, my Powerbook can't connect to the internet via wireless or ethernet (connected directly to the AEBS). My POwerbook CAN talk to my networked HD. To make things worse, my two Tivos (connected to the network via an Airport Express & WDS) CAN connect to the internet.
I'm totally confused. Since I can't connect to the internet when directly plugged into the AEBS, but can connect when I plug directly into the cable modem, I think I'm going to just buy a new AEBS...

  • Can no longer connect to internet via airport

My roommate and I have wireless internet. I used it all last semester with no problems. Sometime in December, I was unable to access the internet (Firefox, Safari, tried both..) here in my apartment, even though Internet Connection shows a full signal under our Airport network. When I went home, wireless worked just fine on this laptop - same when I'm at a library with wireless.
I've tried restarting the wireless router, no success. I'm only able to access the internet when I'm plugged in directly to the router.
    Any suggestions?

Um it's an AT&T DSL wireless router. Yes, my room mate uses the wireless. On my computer in the top right by the airport signal, when you click it, our network is shown with a check next to it, so it must be the signal from our router.
There's an IP address when I unplug my computer from the router (when the web pages cannot be displayed), but when I plug it back in to use the internet, there isn't an IP address - just an IPv6 address.

  • Can't connect to Internet via Airport

I have a PPPOE ISP account. Before upgrade to Lepoard, just fine. Now I can only connect to internet using cable via my router moderm. I cannot connect my wireless router.
The wireless router will appear to be connected but it said self assigned IP. If I hardcode an IP eg. 192.168.11.2 to it. The Airport status will become connected but still cannot dial into my PPPOE account. An message no PPPOE service will appear. But if I plug in the LAN cable, everything work fine. Why this happen? My wireless router work fine with my Window XP and my Mac (before upgrade to Lepoard) What configuration should I change? I am an idot to networking. I have download all patch and has tried boot to safe mode etc.
    Anyone can help?

By power downs do you mean Sleep?
One thing that might work is to set the IP to Static in Network>Configure IPv4>DHCP with Manual Address.
