Updating Old Palm Vx with OS 3.1 to OS 5.4 from New Z22

I just purchased a Z22 for my wife and would like to operate my old Vx and her new Z22 from the same computers. Should I have difficulty in updating the old Palm OS 3.1 to the new Palm OS Garnet v 5.4?

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
The Palm Vx cannot be updated to Palm OS 5.4. It doesn't have the hardware to support it.
However, if what you mean is that you want to synchronize both handhelds to the same desktop, that should work fine, so long as each device has its own Hotsync ID. The Palm Desktop and Hotsync software is not the same as the Palm OS that runs the handhelds themselves. I believe the Z22 shipped with Palm Desktop 4.2, and you should be able to sync the 'vx to this Palm Desktop version as well.

The problem is with the page that opens at startup?
What does the new page look like? Can you paste the address into a reply?
Or if it doesn't have an address, maybe it's a page created by an add-on. Can you see any indication of the source of the page? Perhaps you could post a screen shot of what it looks like. This article has tips on that (make sure to delete to cover anything confidential): [[How do I create a screenshot of my problem?]]
To reduce content size, try the zoom feature: hold down the Ctrl key and tap the - key once or twice. If you want to reset the page to the standard size, you can hold down Ctrl and tap the 0 key once (zero).
But really we should get you back to the page you prefer, and hopefully with the additional details I requested we will be able to figure out what needs to get changed so you can do that.

Downloading previously purchsed music from iCloud is based on your iTunes ID, not your iCloud ID. (It uses "iTunes in the Cloud", which has nothing to do with your iCloud account, just your iTunes ID.)
If you are using a different iTunes ID on your iOS devices than the one you used to purchase the music, you'll have to sync the music to your devices using iTunes. If they are using the same iTunes ID, you can download the music to your devices as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519.

Hi Everyone,
hope this message finds you all in time. The recent Apple TV update 5.1 is terrible. Apple knows it is which is why (thankfully for some relentless user -I have no idea who but I believe it was under threat) they have allowed to sign 5.0.2 again which means you can downgrade your Apple TV 2 and 3 to a 5.0.2 version via iTunes. Who knows how long they will keep the window open but I have downgraded my ATV early this morning. I couldn't post this earlier because I was out all day but I am doing it now.
Here's how to do it:
1) Connect your ATV to your computer via a Mini USB (not included with ATV but included with many other electronic devices) - in order for your ATV to appear in iTunes you must FIRST plug the USB cable to your computer and ATV and only THEN plug the power cable.
2) Download your ipsw restore file from Apple.
5.0.2 (ATV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
5.0.2 (ATV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
3) In iTunes select yout ATV, hold SHIFT and click on Restore
4) Find and choose the downloaded IPSW file in the Open Dialog Box and hit Next
5) As long as Apple still signs that version the Restore process will begin and will take a few minutes to complete.

Old Palm user with a new Iphone4

I have used Palm products and Palm Desktop for a LOT of years. Palm phones are getting so tiny that my fat fingers and weak eyes just won't cut it anymore. Enter my new IPhone which I just purchased last Sunday.
I have a few questions.
Is there a conversion utility that will get the data off my Palm or Palm Desktop software onto my IPhone? I have over 600 records I need to transfer. The AT&T salesman used a machine to make the transfer for me but the data is all scrambled.
Is there a way to add contact data on my laptop and then sync it to the iPhone like using Palm Desktop?
Finally, how do you delete the entire address book so I can delete the scrambled data and start over?

This is a basic feature of the iphone.
The manual should help.
You can Google for instructions to get your data from your palm desktop to an iphone compatible program like Outlook.

So you just want the labels to be there, not the actual values.
Then you could use the Notes parameter on the New-VM cmdlet, something like this:
New-VM -Name TestVM -VMHost $esx -Datastore $ds -Notes "Field1: dummy`nField2: dummy`nField3: dummy"
The <back-tick>-n in the string is a new-line

Problems with updating old .EPS files

Hi All,
We have a strange need to resave/update old .EPS files with color TIF previews. The problem occurs when Illy files are relink in either Quark/Indy and are updated with the wrong import size and/or positions shifted. My conclusion from varies tests suggest it's the preview that is causing layouts to rethink that it's a new file and therefore reposition the updated links. Does anyone know a working solution that can prevent image import percentage from changing or art positions from shifting?

I have an old Palm Pilot with all my phone #s and addresses on it. How can I pour that info into my iPhone?

Thanks, Julian. I just exported the addresses (in VCard mode) from my Palm Desktop into a file that I put on my iBook desktop, but the Mac Address Book won't import them. The name of the file is gray and inaccessible.
Another question: I have a ton of addresses in this Mac Address book that I don't want on my iPhone--don't want to be scrolling through that many! I have deleted them on iPhone, but every time I synch, will they be poured back in? How do I prevent that?

Help with very slow old palm desktop 1.0 for MAC

Hi- I am a happy user of Palm m515, and hot synch it to a very old Mac that runs palmpilot desktop 1.0 , cause I like the printouts. Recently, it would start to open the desktop, but it wouldn't open, I think due to out of memory. I purged calendar and todo from my handheld (which I had not done for years), and hot synced it. Address book & memos synced normally, and the syncing of todo's took hours, and I'm not sure it was successful. However, afterwords, I was able to re-open the desktop, and it works, but it is painfully slow, basically not functional.
I realize this is legacy stuff, but if there is anyone out there who has suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it.
And, I have an old iMac G5 that I am about to retire and buy a new iMac, and if anyone has suggestions for replacing the handheld with one that will run a good todo/task program (and recommendation for that one), also much appreciated.
And if there is a way for me to transfer the data from handheld m515 to my new iMac?

I had an identical experience when I first got my handheld - the palm software wouldn't install on my iMac properly - the same error came up every time, and while it had successfully installed the desktop, hotsync manager was sadly missing. I spent hours playing with it to no avail, and the only solution I found was using it on my macbook running 10.5x (as opposed to 10.2.8). However, the date on the installer (2002) reflects the last time it was updated, which means that it should run with no difficulty on any machine since then. The .sit compression has nothing to do with it - it is one of the most common compression formats for the macintosh platform. It might help if you posted the exact error message you got, but a fairly common fix is to repair disk permissions for your hard drive in disk utility.

I have an older Ipod Touch that is (I believe) the third generation because I have no camera on my ipod. I recently changed my Apple ID and password on my Itunes account. But when I try to update my apps or download new software/music my old apple ID comes up and I can't change it. On the itunes store and my settings it shows my new Apple account. How do I stop from my old account from coming up and my new account appearing when I try to download something new?

- To change ID go to Settings>Store and sign out and sign in with the one you want. If you iPod has iOS 5 you may have to also go to Settings>iCloud and sign into the second account.
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

Now the phone just has an image of plugging in to the ITunes icon and when I plug it in it says its in recovery mode and needs to be restored to original settings and I will lose all of my contacts/photos/etc. Is there a way to reverse this and just get my 'old' phone back with all of my stuff? In short. No, you cannot unsync. If you had a back up from your old iPhone you cand restore from a back up.
In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Devices > and select the latest back up.
Before you synced your phone did you have it set up with the PhotoStream or iCloud? The pictures would be saved there. Or if you had them sync to a file on your computer.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
