Upgrade Supervisor Procedure

What is the proper procedure when upgrading dual supervisor module on a 6513 switch.
1) Do you upgrade the primary / secondary supervisor first, with the secondary / primary supervisor hanging halfway out of the switch?
2) Do you disable HA?
3) Do you reboot the switch or module after you upload the new image to the primary and secondary supervisor?
4) If your not careful can the supervisor in slot-2 take over as the primary supervisor?
I have the document on upgrading the image but what I'm looking for is a step by step on upgrade a primary and secondary sup and also making sure the secondary sup in slot-2 does not take over as the primary.
Thanks,

Hi Friend,
Just have a look at this link will guide you how to upgrade your redundant sup if you are running CATOS or if you are running Native IOS

  • 6500 Upgrade Rommon procedure

Experienced a problem with a 6509 chassis that the recommendation was to upgrade the rommon level on the sup720s which have msfc3 and native IOS. I have a procedure that shows an upgrade of an individual supervisor and a procedure for upgrading an MSCF3 on a sup720. Both procedures show different code families. I will attach a "sh version" output. Are there a combination of codes that need to be deployed together? For example: a rommmon code for the supervisor, one for the MSFC3, and one for the DFC3. We also deploy redundant supervisors in the switch. Can someone recommend the proper software to upgrade with and the proper procedure for upgrading redundant supervisors? Can you do the upgrade on one supervisor and have it automatically synchronize the redundant supervisor, or do you upgrade each supervisor separately, one at a time?

I think you have upgrade each supervisor separately. But afgter upgradation, the new configuration changes made in Active Sup can be synchronised with Redundant sup using RPR or RPR+.

  • Business Content Upgrade Activation Procedure

    Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for a procedure or best practices document that will help me with the steps I need to follow when activating business content due to an upgrade when some of the objects have already been activated and are being used in PRoduction. As an example, we upgraded our BW system to 3.5 but didn't activate any of the Business Content so everything continued to run just fine. Now we activated a new InfoArea that overlapped some of the objects that were already active. A good example is 0REGION. The DataSource in R/3 changed to use a different table for the view so new fields are now available which are actually the same as the fields that were already there but with different names. So the transfer rules show as modified/inactive. I transferred the new structure from R/3, replicated in BW, and changed the transfer rules to use the new fields. Is this the procedure that needs to be followed for any object that was put on the tranport? I've also noticed that many InfoObjects are on the transport but the only change I can see is that the content version changed so if the InfoObject didn't really have any changes, why the version change?
As I mentioned, this is the first time we've activated new content after an upgrade and I'm totally in the dark as to what the procedure should be to follow to get everything cleaned up and up to date.
When you are activating a new area, do you pick and choose which objects you want to activate/match or do you generally just activate the entire InfoCube or InfoArea?
    Thanks for any insight,
    Diane Merrill

    Hi Diane,
I think you should go with infosource or may be with application component. Collect everything of that area and let the system check the already active objects so that it is not just activating the new content but enhancing already active objects with the new content features. But take care, this option is only available when you start this activation in foreground. In background there is only a overwrite mode available which might lead to a loss of developments.

  • Help:Upgraded webdb22 procedure urls fail w/http 404

After upgrading webdb 2.2 to 3.0.6 (on the way to 3.0.9)all procedure urls error with http 404. Packages are valid, packages run when accessed through database objects, created public synonyms for them, granted execute to public, granted schema access to public, ...still the same error. Some of the packages are in different schemas than the site schema. All worked in webdb. Any ideas???

I think that the message below (from your post) might be a clue...
    :: Unlocking encrypted volumes: [BUSY]
It shows that decryption is still busy and therefore not completed. You may not have encryption set up correctly and your volumes are not ready.

  • Upgrade SW Procedures for 15454

Can someone provide me with doc's or knowledge of the steps needed to upgrade from 3.2.1 to 4+. I have 7 node's that need to upgrade and I need to know the good and bad.
Do all have to be upgraded at the same time?
How long does an upgrade typically take?
Can it be done remotely or not recommended? etc.
I know this is kind of open ended but any and all info is appreciated. Thanks

I've only upgraded from 2.1.2 to 2.2.0 during new turn-ups, but those were easily done remotely. You will want to make sure your TCC/TCC+ cards are not in alarm before the upgrade. They don't have to be upgraded right at the same time.

  • EBS 12.1.3 Upgrade issue

    Hi,
I installed 12.1.1 with the Vision Database on my machines which has a 64 bit Linux 5 update 5 operating system and everything went fine. After that I decided to upgrade to 12.1.3. I installed the following patches in order they are given below :
    1) R12.AD.B.DELTA.3 Patch 9239089
    2) Patch 9239090
    3) Patch 9239095
    4) 9817770:R12.ATG_PF.B POST-R12.ATG_PF.B.DELTA.3CONSOLIDATED PATCH
    5) 9966055:R12.FND.B [TRANSLATED VERSION OF FNDSCSGN NOT LAUNCHED
The only issues I had was during the compilation of one form library I got an error in Patch 923090 and I said to continue. The patches completed successfully (I think) since I can log into applications. My issue is I have a lot of invalid objects. I tried to manually compile them but failed then followed one of the other threads to run utlrp.sql and utlirp.sql scripts as per (R12.1.1 - Invalid Objects After Patching [ID 1093163.1])
I have followed that document and tried to run but my invalid count stays the same. Here is the snapshot when I query the database :

However for some reason the job utlrp.sql only shows 4 invalids as shown when I run it. But the number changes once the script is finished and I am not sure why. If I query SELECT COUNT(*) FROM obj$ WHERE status IN (4, 5, 6) now after utlrp.sql has finished running I get the below
    SQL> SELECT COUNT(*) FROM obj$ WHERE status IN (4, 5, 6);
    COUNT(*)
    234
But if I query the same query while utlrp.sql is running I get a number as low as 10 I have seen but once the script finishes it goes back up. I don't know what to do. I have run autoconfig on both the db and apps tier. Is there anything anyone can suggest me ? I am totally lost on this.
    Thanks..

Hi I did set the disablefast_validate=TRUE and re-ran only utlrp.sql to re-compile now I have a lot more packages compiled but I still have some invalids. I just want to know can I ignore these and move on or are they important packages / objects in APPS which may impact functionality ?
below is the results of the invalid objects.

  • Multiple Oracle_home (best way to upgrade) ??

    hello all,
I was going thru the below link and found this very cool trick that i didnt know.
    http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid41_gci1252556,00.html?track=NL-93&ad=587723&asrc=EM_NLT_1354356
    it goes something like this
*My favorite best practice is the one about multiple Oracle Homes. Here it how it goes. When applying a patch or a patchset, I recommend against applying to the existing Oracle Home. Instead, I suggest creating a new Oracle Home, and apply the patches there.
I create the first Oracle Home at /app/oracle/db_1, for instance. When a patch comes out, I install the whole Oracle software in a different home -- /app/oracle/db_2 -- and then apply the patch there. During the process of installation and patch application, the database is up and running, as it runs off the home /db_1. When the outage window comes, all I have to do is to shut down Oracle; change Oracle Home to db_2 and bring the database up. If there is a problem, I can reset the Oracle Home back to the old one.
So, here is the conventional approach:
    1. Shut down the database
    2. Apply patch to the Oracle Home
    3. Start the database
    4. In case of problems:
    5. Shut down the database
    6. Roll back the patch
    7. Start the database
Steps 2 and 6 could take as much as three hours depending on the amount of patching. The database is down during these times.
    In the new approach:
    1. Install new Oracle Home
    2. Apply the patch to the new Home
    3. Shut down the database
    4. Change Oracle Home to the new location
    5. Start the database
    6. In case of problems:
    7. Shut down the database
    8. Change Oracle Home to the old one
    9. Start the database
The database is down only during steps 4 and 8, which takes a couple of minutes at the most, not hours.*
But my question comes here...first of all is it possible ?? i am sure it is becoz Arup Nanda one of the know oracle guys wrote this article. so here are my Q?
1- So if i get this right...if i want to upgrade to 11g...and my database is on 10g...all i need to do this create a new 11g home...shutdown my 10g database...set my oracle_home to 11g and start my database up...and its all upgraded ????
2- Another thing that worries me is how this might behave in RAC environment. Any idea
on that? i know RAC provides the rollover upgrade so we might
not need this. but would be cool to know how it behaves...ANY IDEAS ?
3- Also, I wonder how CRS and ASM home like this idea ??

Basically when you switch from the old home to the new Oracle home you are following manual database upgrade procedures so you would need to run whatever scripts are contained in the instructions. Normally for an upgrade that is catalog and catproc and you would run these immediately after bringing the database up on the new home. For a patch there might be an upgrade script or no database level scripts may be necessary. That is the patch may effect only the binary.
What we actually do is in test install new copy of existing Oracle then patch/upgrade to current level. Next build an empty database and populate it. Next test. When OK shut it down and apply patch. Startup and follow Readme or Upgrade manual procedures. If test works fine and the upgrades tests OK then we remove the new test db, switch the actual in-use test databases over to the new patched home, run upgrade scripts as necessary, and continue.
After a few weeks we start getting maintenance windows to do production. Since we have multiple databases we usually do not do all of them at once.

  • Should we upgrade PowerBook G4?

My wife has a last generation PowerBook G4 15" that she bought for her work 2 years ago. It was loaded with MS Office 2004 and some Adobe creative software such as Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2, all licensed on her company which she doesn't work for anymore.
Recently we started thinking about upgrading to Leopard but we are also worrying about losing all the software that was once free to us. We want to be sure that there won't be any kind of performance issues for the computer or for the software. Just for your information, we upgraded the RAM to 2 GB and we have an external hard drive to back up the computer before upgrading to Leopard.
So, is there anyone out there who had problems, like losing installed software, or slowing down a perfectly running machine while trying to upgrade to Leopard?

I upgraded my iMac G4 to 1.25Gbytes of memory, then I did the "erase and install" upgrade variation. It's running great without any problems. MS Office 2004 reinstallation is "drag and drop" so it shouldn't be a problem. I cannot say much for Adobe CS2. I have it as well but I haven't reinstalled it on my iMac. I agree with W.L., you'll probably need the Adobe installation disk for CS2, but I could be wrong.
I do not recommend the "upgrade" installation procedure. Do either "Erase and install" or "Archive and install".
Tomorrow I am upgrading my son's PowerBook G4 with memory, then Leopard. I'll let you know how it goes. BTW, be careful with the screws on the memory cover. They are very very small. You definitely DO NOT want to strip the #0 phillips head.

  • Is it possible to perform a "Clean Install" of AsyncOS on my c100 ESA?

after decommissioning this c100, both Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) were removed, reformatted, and reinstalled in the ESA by the IT Group.
Is there a method to reload the AsyncOS on this appliance?  Or do I now have a clean "brick"?
    Please help.
    Regards

    Hello Gordon,
I'm sorry but AsyncOS is not available on CD/DVD for a fresh install. All appliances are delivered with AsyncOS on it and they can upgrade either via our downloads server or using a local upgrade server. For the local upgrade server procedure (when internet connectivity for the appliance is not available for security reasons), you can download the AsyncOS upgrade package from an URL. But this requires that you have a) already an AsyncOS release on your appliance and b) a valid support contract is in place for the appliance serial number. So in your case the local upgrade server option would also not work as this requires that the appliance can run the 'upgrade' command.
So sad to say but without an replacement of the entire appliance via the sales team (as it is not a product malfunction support cannot help here) there is no way to get the C100 back online with an AsyncOS. But of course installing Windows OS or Linux (I can confirm that Debian is running on the hardware) would be a good reusage of the C100 in a different way.
    Thanks and regards,
    Martin

  • Old Applications & files won't open in OSX-Tiger/Classic

    [post moved from other forum]
I finished my Powerbook's hardware upgrade with success yesterday(with thanks to JPL, Sig, A_Brody and other's great advice). System is now Powerbook G3 400 Firewire with 512mbRam, new 40GB HDD, and OS-X Tiger. However...
I can't seem to get the older Applications or their files to open. I get the error message:
"There is no default application specified to open the document Appleworks 6"
    and/or
"Could not be opened because the application that created it could not be found--- could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators"
    The upgrade/update procedure included...
===Back-up all files on the old 10GB HDD to an external USB drive.
===Remove old and replace w/new 40GB HDD, also install new 512MB PC-133 RAM module in lower slot.
===booted from old OS CD and ran Hard drive set-up utility with two partitions, one 30GB the other 10GB.
===Install OS 9.0.4 from that original Apple software CD onto the first 30GB partition.
===Onto same partition, ran OS-9 Update 9.1.0, then 9.2.1, then fireware update 4.1.8f5, then Update 9.2.1
===Installed OS-X Tiger onto the first 30GB partition
===Moved all backed-up files from the external USB drive onto the second 10GB partition.
I have tried running the old applications in both OS-X Classic mode and also after changing the "Start-up Disk" to the smaller partition (which should be a clone of how the original Hard drive was set-up i.e. folder structure etc.)
I'm quite surprised that when re-booting to the smaller partiton, that although it looks just like my system prior to upgrading, the apps don't run and the files don't open those older apps that created them. I assumed that the smaller Partition--and booting to it--would be the same as if the original Hard drive was still in the powerbook.
When I get those error messages above, I have followed the "Choose Application" button thru to where I could choose the application. I follow to the "Applications (Mac OS 9" folder to where the actual APPLEWORKS 6 app (for exmaple) is located, but it is greyed out and can't be selected. BTW later I did copy all of the contents of the original "Applications" folder from the backed-up HDD into the OSX "Applications Mac OS 9" folder. Also note, the apps in that folder are listed as KIND "Unix Executable File". The files (in this case AppleWorks files) are also listed as that file KIND.
===In the OSX's System Preferences/System/Classic/Advanced tab, I have tried the REBUILD DESKTOP procedure--with no effected change. I know I read elsewhere in discussions that there was a procedure to re-boot with a certain keyboard held-key combo that allows to re-build desktop upon booting?? I don't remember the keyboard combo. And,not certain how that procedure is different.
===In the change Start-Up disc Utility, I now see four Systems to choose from...
Mac OSX 10.4 on New 30GB HD
Mac OS 9.2.2 on New 30GB HD
Mac OS on Old 10GB HD (that's the smaller partition),
Mac OS 9.2.2 on New 30GB HD
    Network Start-up
Both the second and forth choice will boot-up to OS 9.2, but as mentioned the apps won't run and files won't open
I'm guessing the reason the third choice won't boot (it reverts back to OSX Tiger when I try) is because that original System copy is OS 9.0.4 (backed-up prior to running the OS-9.1 and 9.2.1, 9.2.2 updates.). Also note, when in OS 9.2.2 when I go into that Utility... Apple/Control Panels/Startup Disk it doesn't list the old OS on the smaller partition. BTW could I now run/perform the OS-9 updates to bring that System on the smaller HD partition up to OS-9.2.2 with out causing problems (and maybe providing solutions?)
    I wonder...
??? Why would I be having to choose which application would open an application---wouldn't an app open on its own (Unix Executable File")
??? When I moved the orig HD back-ups on the external USB drive I noticed a file with some kind of PC icon was being created within the folder. Currently I see that the file is now displayed as FINDER.DAT. Does this file relate to the error that refers to "appropriate translators"? Could the Apple Macintosh files being backed-up onto an external USB drive that may not have been formated as Apple HFS type be causing a problem?
??? Why wouldn't the smaller 10GB partition with the old HDD back-up copy moved to it not function like the original Hard drive? Particularly when I choose to boot to its SYSTEM w/Start-up Disc? BTW when I choose that route, the powerbook just boots to OSX Tiger.
THANKS for any replies, you all have been a great help with the challenges of upgrading...

    PS:
Sorry for the long post. But, I have included as much up-front details as possible to assist in your replies. I also want to help others reading this thread later on as to what (correct or incorrect) procedures were followed... to help them see how these in-compatibility scenerios would be similiar to their situations... leading to solutions for all.

Thank you for including as much detail as you did. It makes it much easier to troubleshoot this type of issue. What I'll do is basically follow along with the procedure you used and point out where you (unknowingly) ran into problems.
"Back-up all files on the old 10GB HDD to an external USB drive."
Okay, I'm betting that this external USB drive was formatted as PC-Exchange/Windows format. Since this type of disk format doesn't have native support for the special "Mac" information about files (such as resource forks and HFS metadata like file type and creator codes), when Mac OS writes files to these disks, it needs to use a special method. When you copy the files from OS 9, OS 9 adds special "FINDER.DAT" files and also stores the resource-fork-parts of the original files inside a "RESOURCE.FRK" folder on the disk. My FAQ goes into more detail about this. When, from OS 9, you look at the files you just copied to the PC-formatted disk, and they appear identical to the files on your original 10 GB hard drive, that is in fact a complete illusion. The files as they exist on the PC-formatted disk are very different from what they appear. When you hook it up to your OS 9 Mac, the files appear fine, and you can copy them and have them work just like the original files did. If, on the other hand, you hook this PC-formatted hard drive up to your OS X Mac, it looks at the files in a completely different way. If you copy the files off of this disk from OS X, most of the files won't be usable.
"Remove old and replace w/new 40GB HDD, also install new 512MB PC-133 RAM module in lower slot."
"booted from old OS CD and ran Hard drive set-up utility with two partitions, one 30GB the other 10GB."
"Install OS 9.0.4 from that original Apple software CD onto the first 30GB partition."
"Onto same partition, ran OS-9 Update 9.1.0, then 9.2.1, then fireware update 4.1.8f5, then Update 9.2.1"
"Installed OS-X Tiger onto the first 30GB partition"
"Moved all backed-up files from the external USB drive onto the second 10GB partition."
If you did this from OS X, you will run into problems, whereas if you do this from OS 9, you'll be okay. The reason for this, as I mentioned above, is that OS X doesn't know how to "see" the files in the same way that OS 9 does.
This is what I would do. Make sure you still have the PC-formatted drive with the files you backed up from OS 9. Reboot into one of your versions of OS 9 that works properly. Hook up the external USB drive, and the files on it should appear properly and function properly. Now copy the files over onto your local hard drive and they should work properly as well. The files that you copied over from OS X won't be useful and can be deleted. Then reboot into OS X and you should be all set.
    Hope this helps....
