Use VirtualBench API without LabVIEW. Example: Python, DLLs, etc.

Hello,
I would like to know if there is a way to use the VirtualBench API without LabVIEW?
Like using python or something.
Thank you
Solved!
Go to Solution.

We just released version 1.1 of VirtualBench that adds a C API and a bunch of other features, see http://forums.ni.com/t5/VirtualBench/Announcing-free-firmware-update-version-1-1-adds-SPI-and-I2C/td....  With that you could use VirtualBench in your programming language of choice if you write the appropriate bindings.

  • Hide Label step icon using Testand API and LabVIEW

    Hi,
    can anyone tell me how it is possible to hide the icon of a label step using Testand API and LabVIEW?
    In the Teststand Sequence Editor, on the Label Edit Tab there is a Checkbox called "Hide Icon". Is there something similar in the API?
    Thanks

    Yes you can, you will have to set the IconName property of the step to "ni_blank.ico"

  • Creating LabVIEW module adapter TestStand Steps using the API without loading module prototype???

    Is it possible to programatically create a TestStand step (using the API), that calls a LabVIEW module, without loading the prototype of the module to get a reference to the Module Parameters.
    I want to specify a VI Pathname, but I dont want to use that pathname to load the prototype.  I want to programatically specify the name, type, representation etc. of each of the controls and indicators.
    My reason for attempting this is that I only want the VIs called by the steps to exist on the target hardware not on the numerous development machines running my application.
    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

    Hi Steve,
    Unfortunatly it is not possible to do what you want within Test Stand but I am not sure why it is necessary, I think I am understanding your application incorrectly.  The only time you will need to load the prototype is if you are creating the step but if you are creating the step you will need the VI that the step calls so that VI will need to be present on the system.  If you are not calling the step then you shouldn't need to load the VI prototype.  If this is how you program funtions it may be a problem with your architecture but if not please could you correct my misunderstanding so that I can go about finding a suitable solution.

  • Use ATP API without enabling ATP

    Hi,
    We have a requirement where we do not want to turn on the ATP, but want to provide the users with ability to check for "Item Availability" & "Pegging Information" on a custom screen.
    Can we use standard Oracle API, like OE_ATP for this purpose? It would be great help if someone can provide any inputs for this.
    Thanks

    I hav found some stuff..have performed it too..but i dont understand how and why does forecasting take place in it
    How reorder point is calculated, how to do its setup, how to read the forcasts like those bucket it displays..all buckets have same forecasted quantities
    what affects the forecasted quantities and what changes them

  • Correct way to use AXL API with complex types css, partition, etc. involving: JAXBElement XFkType ?

    I am trying to figure out how to use the AXL API once exploded with the wsimport as explained here...
    https://developer.cisco.com/site/collaboration/management/axl/learn/how-to/axl-java-sample-application.gsp
    ...to use complex types (partition, css, etc).
    --> What is the correct way to do it?
    Example 1: UpdatePhone
    When incorporing a complex type into the addition or update of a component, for instance RoutePartitionName, DevicePoolName or CallingSearchSpaceName.
    his function is not working:
    public void actualizarPhone(LPhone lPhone) {
            try {
                UpdatePhoneReq axlParams = new UpdatePhoneReq();
                axlParams.setName(lPhone.getName());
                axlParams.setDescription(lPhone.getDescription());
                axlParams.setDevicePoolName(lPhone.getDevicePoolName());
                axlParams.setCallingSearchSpaceName(lPhone.getCallingSearchSpaceName());
                StandardResponse response = axlPort.updatePhone(axlParams);
                //return response.getReturn()a.toString();
            } catch (Exception e) {
                logger.error(e);
                //return new ArrayList<LPhone>();
    It seems the right thing to do set as parameter for the "set" the result of the "get" in line: setDevicePoolName(lPhone.getDevicePoolName());
    but it says: "The method setDevicePoolName(JAXBElement<XFkType>) in the type UpdatePhoneReq is not applicable for the arguments (XFkType)"
    Example 2: AddLine
    I also have this problem when adding line.
    And I've tried at least 3 approaches, no success yet:
    1)** Using factory object to obtain an R object
    ObjectFactory factory = new ObjectFactory();
    RRoutePartition rRoutePartition = factory.createRRoutePartition();
    rRoutePartition.setName("autodial");
    2) ** Trying to create the demanded object: JAXBElement<XFkType> myself.
    JAXBElement<XFkType> jaxbElement= new JAXBElement<XFkType>(new QName ("http://www.cisco.com/AXL/API/8.5","XRoutePartition"),XFkType.class,partition);
    jaxbElement.setValue(partition3);
    line.setRoutePartitionName(jaxbElement);
    3)** Using X Objects
    XCallForwardBusy fwdBusy = new XCallForwardBusy();
    fwdBusy.setForwardToVoiceMail("true");
    AddLineReq newLine = new AddLineReq();
    XLine line = new XLine();
    line.setAlertingName("ALerting Name");
    line.setAsciiAlertingName("Alerting Name ASCII");
    line.setCallForwardBusy(fwdBusy);
    line.setDescription("Description");
    line.setPattern("5555");
    I would appreciate a clean example about how to add a line setting a partition, and an explanation about how to use JAXBElement<XFkType> objects.

  • How to measure voltage changes using a NI-9219 with strain gauges and use the data in labview

    I am updating an old LabView/Data Acquisition system that uses strain gauges to measure two forces (normal and axial) as well as two moments (Pitch and Roll). I am having trouble reading the voltage changes over my strain gauges using my NI-9219 as well as filtering the data with both a lowpass and smoothing filter. The program attached has the project and should have all the sub-vi's used in the program. This program was written on LabView version 8.5 and is being updated to a 2013 version of LabView. Also, the hardware previously used was a combination of a NI SCB-68 and NI USB-6251. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Coffeyfj,
    Did you ever had this set up working? The first thing that I would do as I mentioned in the previous comment would be to use one of the LabVIEW examples. I recommended to you using the (strain - Continuous Input.vi). If you can read any voltage changes with the example vi, then we will know the problem we are having is in your code. If you cannot read any voltage changes using the example I mentioned, we can start trouble shooting the hardware connections. Are you connecting the excitation voltage? If yes, Are you making the right connections. Please refer to page 19 of the following document (half and full bridge modes)

  • FTP using java API

    i saw the ftp upload an download codes in one of the previous forums...
    is it possible for a directory listing of the remote system i.e., the user can select the files which he has to download from the server . is it possible to do that using java api without any third party package???

    Type java ftp to google and you'll find a couple of dozen Java FTP client implementations.
    One of them comes with Sun's JDK, sun.net.ftp.FtpClient. It's in the "sun" package hierarchy, which means it's unsupported, undocumented and subject to change without notice.
    What I've done myself is grab Sun's FtpClient and copy it to one of my own packages; that way it won't suddenly change. (I did that when it had a couple of dodgy changes between using active/passive/extended passive modes.)

  • How can I extract model dll information (inports, outports etc) using VeriStando API?

    Hi,
    I am working in a system that may run using the actual or modelled UUT. Besides this, it uses 3 heavy models running at 5 kHz.
    I am looking for a way to inspect the model dll and extract its information as System Explorer does when the model is included.
    Is it possible to do this using VeriStand API?
    Cheers,
    Cláudio H.

    Hi Jarrod,
    This VI does what I am doing now but in a cleanner way.
    I made some changes to let it model independent.
    The point is: it is necessary to run the project to retrieve the model information. My feeling is that System explorer does this without run the project and this is what we would like to do.
    Other point: when we compile the model we fill the fields of information in "NI Information" which we want to retrieve. These information field are avaiable in system explorer during in4 creation.
    Is this possible?
    I am including the generic version of your VI that I changed.
    Cheers.

  • Can LabVIEW call a DLL built with VS(2005) C++ with /CLR and Without an Entry Point

    My project requires me to convert a C++ program to a DLL and having it called by LabVIEW. Due to the complexity of this C++ program (converted from fortran using f2c -C++ option), it cannot be compiled without using /clr option.  I did build the application standalone (/clr), and it functioned fine.  When I build it into DLL using VS2005, I was forced to use No Entry point option and without using DllMain in the C++ code. Eventually the DLL was built without error.  But after I call it from LabVIEW, I was not getting calculated results as expected.  I added a testing function to the C++ code of the DLL and just try to modify a parameter, it will not, but only return the input numbers.  I was passing data by pointer and not by value, so I expect this parameter output be modified.  I suspect that the DLL didnt get executed at all as it has no entry point specified.
    Am I on the right track to approach this task, or I am heading to totally wrong direction here?   I believe due to the fact that my C++ was from f2c and use vsf2c.lib and so on, the code is managed code, so that a regular DLL cannot be built from it with an entry point. How can LabVIEW call such a DLL? Am I right on that?  I really need your advice here for a right approach to this problem and possible implementation "watch outs"...Thanks!
    Bryan

    Hi...Finally I was able to compile my code with an entry point defined and without using /clr.  I can also call this DLL from LV and got back a variable from a little test function added to the DLL.  But the function that was used for my main application in the DLL crashed LV and I got a pop up box from Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime Error! "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way, please contact the application's support team for more information".  In Visual Studio I also got the following message: (I eliminated most of the "No symbols loaded" messages that are not errors but just info.)  I would apprciate if someone can take to look with your more "experienced eyes", many thanks! Bryan.

    phone in my labview project, in this case the AT command doesn’t apply. I guess
    Nokia_PC_Connectivity_API_3.2  (consist of LIB files and  header files)  might be useful, but I don’t know how to load a static
    library in Labview.  Do I have to write a
    C program first before labview could use those API function? Or is there a
    simple way to control my nokia phone?
    Would be grateful if anyone could help!

    It supports DLL(*.dll) only, not LIB(*.lib). I need LIB interface.
    Possible options are,
    1) to make a new DLL calling LIB by using C/C++ complier (ex. visual c), then use "Call Library Function Node",
    2) to generate new c source code calling external LIB, then using CIN(Code Interface Node).
    They looked available, but  NI has addressed that either one won't work, unless original code desinger makes a new clean dll.
    Do you have another idea?
    Don't go the CIN route! They are legacy technology and not supported anymore on all LabVIEW platforms. The shared library (Call Library Node) interface is the way to go nowadays.
    And I don't understand your second last sentence. A lib while having the same file ending is not a standard format as its internal layout and format depends highly on the compiler that was used. So there is no way NI could make a general purpose interface node to interface directly to lib files. It is even so bad that a lib created with one comiler can not usually be used with a different compiler.

  • Using TestStand Engine API in LabVIEW

    Hi all,
    I am currently working for a proejct where automation of testing is involved, For which NI LabVIEW and TestStand are used. My previous experience is in LabVIEW only and not in TestStand. In the current project I have to develop a UI where user can select the test sequences and execute them  automatically with a simple start command. So I thought to develop a UI in LabVIEW where I will call TestStand APIs in LabVIEW. I have a developed a code by calling the TestStand APIs and able to execute the sequence, but unable to generate the report. Does  any have stuff where in TestStand APIs are called in LabVIEW and test report is generated.
    As I mentioned earlier I haven't worked much in TestStand. I have gone through the TestStand examples like Simple UI. But it didn't helped me much.
    To put our project requirement in simple.
    1.It should  have the UI to select the TestCases (Test Sequences) and an option to select the no.of times the test cases needd to be executed.
    2. It should generate the reports for all the test cases.
    3. UI should support localization.
    Considering the above requirements I have thought to develop UI in LabVIEW calling the TestStand APIs. I also got to know that UI can be developed using TestStand, but I am not sure whether the above mentioned requirments can be fullfilled or not.
    I am attaching the VI what I have developed in the LabVIEW with which I am able to execute the sequences, but unable to generate the report. Kindly look into the VI and let me know what need to be corrected to generate the report using the same VI.
    Thanks and Regards

    If you want to generate a report you'll have to choose an entry point. You should have a look at the LabVIEW OI (operator Interface) shipped with TestStand

  • Web Services without using the API

    Hi. I'm new to Web Services. I've been able to call a web service and get my result back without using the Web Services API -- easy enough. My question is this.... the concept of web services has been around for a long time... longer than the web services API. Can I not write a simple servlet it Java that would function as a Web Service without having to use the Web Services API.
    For example,
    Calling XML:
    <action><delete>jdoe</delete></action>
    Servlet recieves this as a stream, deletes the associated ID and returns:
    <action><result>Success</result></action>
    or
    <action><result>Failed</result></action>
    This seems to me like it would be pretty generic stuff (not requiring the API) and pretty basic (not very large).
    Can anyone head me in the right direction with this or provide an example?
    Thank you.
    dr

    Can... Servlet is very powerful to write the web services...
