VDW Warm up Issues

Hi,
I have a page with an embedded VDW that takes 30 seconds to load during periods of inactivity. To try to get around this I created a warmup script which I have runnig as a scheduled task every 5 minutes however it doesn't make a difference to performance (see
script below). When I run interactively (set $visible to true,and run from powershell_ISE) I can see the page opening and closing but still I haven't confirmed if this rectifies my performance issues .
I'm finding it very difficult to test because each time I log in and the page loads I have to wait what seems like around 25 minutes to replicate the issue (i.e. service stops, or something goes out of memory).
Perhaps this be related to IIS app pool properties?
$oIE=new-object -com internetexplorer.application
# visibility can be set to false so we don't see the actual browser window
$oIE.visible=$False;
# wait till browser is loaded
while ($oIE.busy) {
sleep -milliseconds 50
# request new url
$oIE.navigate2("http://blahblah/default.aspx") ;
# wait till url is loaded
while ($oIE.busy) {
sleep -milliseconds 50
$doc = $oIE.Document;
$doc.readyState;
# Close browser
$oIE.Quit();

Here is hiw the issue was resolved

  • P7N SLI Platinum warm reboot issue

    When entering BIOS settings whereupon it should restart afterwards or when restarting from Windows more often than not my system will not boot. It seems to start to do so but there is no BIOS splash (no video at all) and the hard disk light on the case usually comes on and stays on but sometimes will go out after a short while. Once or twice when setting up this machine I was able to get it to boot from this state using the reset switch on the case. Now it seems that powering down the machine is required and leaving it off for a short while before powering back up - whereupon it boots and then runs fine. This motherboard and processor were an upgrade in this an existing machine which has two IDE hard disks (I did the upgrade at the end of last week). The BIOS is version 1.1 and I have tried disabling all the SATA controllers which I am not using, I have tried clearing the CMOS using the switch on the back and I have also tried the BIOS defaults to no avail. Nothing seems to make a difference. This PC is not overclocked and runs fine but just won't warm restart. Any thoughts anyone?

    No, I had not tried experimenting with the memory I had just left everything at stock. I have however just tried your suggestions. I first kept the two sticks in and raised the voltage but no change. So I went back to 1.9V and pulled one stick. Same thing but increasing the voltage to 2.1 did make a difference. It would restart more frequently when exiting the from the BIOS - maybe hanging one in 5 times - but evidently still not right. I even went up to the memory's 2.2V rating but that was no better than at 2.1. So increasing the voltage did make a bit of an improvement.  I swapped over sticks while with just the one plugged in just in case but that made no difference. Putting the second stick back in and that improvement goes away and I am back to where I was. If sometimes it doesn't restart and I go through 3 power cycles with nothing happening then I get the red message 'The previous overclocking had failed and system will restore its default settings' from where it happily boots! Going into the BIOS it's not evident that it has changed anything (apart from when I had the memory voltage higher) which is not really surprising since I have been running with standard settings. Thanks anyway for your suggestion - any other ideas?
    Update: Since the memory did seem to make a bit of a difference I tried going from Auto to Manual timings but that had no effect. I have also tried swapping out the Patriot for 2x1GB sticks of Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400 but I still have the same issue. So it seems most likely not the memory.

  • The Warm Phone Issue (jut my 2 pennies)

    My question is; what exactly in installed in the space just below the ear speaker behind the screen? Which is the only area that gets noticeably (and for a new owner) worryingly warm. Is it the battery, memory, GPS antenna?
    While I understand the any device that requires a decent amount of energy to function will heat up, it is still a bit disconcerting to have an iPhone get noticeably warm in some areas while using it after 20-30 minutes (irrelevant of the type of use). Specifically, the screen area just below the ear speaker extending about a thumb width down and from side edge to side edge, both the front screen and back plate. It's especially noticeable since the rest of the phone stays pretty cool.
    Fair enough that it's nowhere near as bad as most laptops or many LCD screens and it cools off in just a moment after going into stand-by, and I wouldn't use the word "hot" to describe it, but definitely a noticeable increase in heat.
    One other observation, the phone gets slightly warm when charging through my laptop, but doesn't when charging through the wall plug adapter, don't have any clue if that means anything. Just an observation.
    Apple may want to look into adding a different "heat sink" design to future models to help dissipate the heat over a larger area of the back plate. And, ridge the back plate to increase surface area and have a less "slippery" surface. I don't think a fan is practical.

    I notice that if I use my iPhone 3GS to listen to some music or watch videos, browse the net for a period of time, I do notice the back of the iPhone gets warm (but not hot). This is normal in my opinion. You have got to remember that the 3GS has a powerful processor which will produce some heat when put under load. If you were to touch the heat sink on a PC's processor you would notice that this gets warm too.

  • 648 Max warm boot issue

    I have just built my first PC using a 648 Max MB. and I have a problem.
    The system boots up fine from cold start, however it fails to start in the following scenarios, it just beeps once and then sits there with a blank screen.
    # Restart form Windows
    # Shutdown from Windows (system powers off OK)
    # Exit from BIOS with or without saving changes
    The reset button has no effect
    The only way to get the system to boot is to remove power from supply and then restart.

  • Next-Generation Java 7 Plugin Performance on Windows 7 and IE 8

    Applet performance has historically been a black eye, to say the least, for Java Applets. Slow load times over today's networks are simply not tolerated by today's network standards. I'm currently supporting an Applet that is forced to move to the Java 7 Platform. As such, we are particularly sensitive to anything new that may further hinder applet performance. To that end, I've been doing quite a bit of benchmarking lately of Applet load times using various configurations with the Java 7 Plugin on Windows 7 using IE 8.
    To capture Java Applet load times, I've simply been marking the start time in Javascript from the HTML onLoad() event, and then calling out to a similar Javascript function to mark the end time from the bottom of the init() method in the Java Applet. I subtract the two times to get a general idea of how long it takes to load the applet.
    The best load times, so far, (when loading the JARs from the web server) occur when caching is employed (e.g., cache_option, cache_archive, cache_version). What I've noticed though, is that when everything else is the same, the performance is degraded by at least half when I check the 'Enable the next-generation Java Plug-in' in the Plugin Control Panel. Applet load times slow down by at least half when this option is enabled. When loading JAR files from the web server, with caching in effect, the applet load time performance is comparable to loading JAR files from the file system only when the next-generation plugin is not enabled. I assume this is because of the associated overhead of spinning-up this external JVM process, but I'm not certain.
    Does anyone know if this is a correct assumption? And if I'm correct, are there ways to speed up the loading of an applet when caching is used with the next-generation plugin? Is this another cold-start vs. warm-start issue for the JVM?
    My goal is to have applet load times for JARs loaded from the web server, using the next-generation plugin, as fast as when the JARs could be loaded from the local file system (which apparently is no longer possible using the next-generation plugin, sadly).
    Thanks!

    Thanks Igor.

    <PARAM name="type" value="application/x-java-applet"/>
    </object>
    Here's a brief synopsis of my test methodology:
    Assuming caching is the fastest performance I'm going to get by putting JARs on web server, goal was to determine if browser plugin and next-gen plugin will offer the same performance in terms of time to load the Applet.
    To test, I unchecked the 'Enable Next-Gen' plugin option in the Java Plugin. I updated the cache_version values for all JARs. I 'touched' all JAR files in the WAR (I use cygwin) and redeployed the WAR. I have a cli script that launches IE and points it at my applet. When the applet loads, a Javascript Alert box displays showing the number of milliseconds it took to load the applet. I document the time, quit the browser, and re-execute my script. I do this 10 times for each test scenario and take the average.
    The two basic test scenarios are using the Browser Plugin (not next-gen) and using the Next-Gen Plugin. That is the only variable I change between test scenarios. Here is the raw data I collected for each test scenario:
    Not Using Next-Gen Plugin (milliseconds):
    run1 run2 run3 run4 run5 run6 run7 run8 run9 run10
    1761 474 535 495 500 505 502 267 693 513
    Avg: 625ms
    Using Next-Generation Plugin (milliseconds):
    run1 run2 run3 run4 run5 run6 run7 run8 run9 run10
    5382 1529 983 1545 1622 1575 1544 1544 1545 1529
    Avg: 1880ms
    The time it takes to load for each first run indicates caching is happening as subsequent runs are faster. I verified that the JVM is not making http requests for cached JAR files by proxying these requests with Tcpmon just to confirm this was the case.
    I'm basically just looking for a logical explanation to account for the significant time difference that occurs from this Plugin configuration change. It seems to make logical sense to me that this can be explained by JVM Process start up time, but I'm looking for corroboration on that or another explanation.
    Thanks for any advice, help, etc. I'll start looking into JNLP and JAR index as well.

    Dear All (Nokia 5800 XM owners and Nokia Support Staffs)
        I am a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic owner from Malaysia. I have had the same problem with my phone's screen distorted for a few months now. Guess what ? I think I have found a solution (temporary) to the problem!
        I realise the issue only occurs when I am in my office. When I am at home or outside, It does not happen. It seems that the issue is caused by COLD! By keeping my phone warm (I normally place it on top of my laptop charger, which is warm) the issue is resolved.
        To all Nokia Support Staff who is reading this, I hope you guys/gals could look into this matter. To all Nokia 5800 XpressMusic owners, hope this solution helps you guys/gals as well as It has definitely helped me.
    Sincerely

  • HT203254 Macbook pro 15. Intel HD Graphics 3000/ AMD Radeon HD 6490M. Screen seems 'solarized'/pixellated at startup. disappears after 30 minutes. Any idea of cause and cure?

    New Machine in Mar 2011. OS version 10.6.8
    All software updates installed via Automatic update.
    Screen has a 'solarized' look on start up, which disappears after about 30 mins, suggesting a 'warm up' issue?

    Does anyone have a view on this matter and a way of resolving it? Still under extended warranty.

  • Any problem leaving my MacBook on all the time for the new AppleTV?

    I now have two new AppleTVs, both of which Home Share with my one MacBook.
    Home Sharing only works when my MacBook is powered up and iTunes is running.
    Questions are...
    Is there a problem with leaving my MacBook plugged in and turned on all the time? Battery health?
    Is there any way to make iTunes Home Sharing work with the cover closed?
    Suggestions?

    I'll clarify my questions. I am using my MacBook the same way you would use a home computer, like a MacPro or a MacMini. I have it hooked to a home TV and I use a bluetooth keyboard and magic pad to operate it. It just sits next to the TV like cable box does.
    Issue #1) My MacBook is plugged in and turned on all the time, 24/7. This is not a problem for a MacPro or MacMini since neither one has a battery, so my first questions are: Will this destroy the battery's ability to maintain a charge when I do occasionally use my MacBook as a portable? Also, could this be a fire hazard since laptop batteries tend to get warm?
    Issue #2) With the cover closed, the MacBook continues to operate as long as it is receiving periodic input from the keyboard or trackpad. However, once the TV that it is connected to is turned off, the MacBook goes to sleep since it's no longer hooked to a display, either it's own (cover closed) or the TV monitor (turned off). Next question is: Is there any way to keep this MacBook and iTunes operating in this condition (turned on, but cover closed and TV monitor off) so that I can continue to HomeShare with the other AppleTVs in the house?

  • IOS 7.1 makes iPad stuttery, jumpy.

    Since I upgraded last week, my iPad has been anything but smooth. Anyone else notice this? Is there a way to re-do the upgrade, or do we have to wait for an Apple fix? Thanks in advance.

    Will add to the discussion with my experience this week.
    My iPhone 52 32GB ATT was running iOS 7.0.6 and had no issues.  I did the update, tethered, via iTunes 11.1.5 on a Mac Pro, Tuesday morning.  By noon, my iPhone's battery was down to 94% while in stand-by.  Location services were turned off.  Not using Bluetooth.  Using wifi & cellular. No apps running in the background. It had turned itself on multiple times to the "slide to power off" screen.  It was physically hot.
    I did a restore from back-up. Same issues continued.  Did a factory reset, no restore.  Same issues continued.
    Called Apple tech support and was the tech's 2nd caller in an hour with the same battery drain/warm battery issues.  Got transfered to a supervisor who had me again do a factory reset without a restore and called me back 12 hours later to see the results.  Same battery drain and warm battery.  She sent me to the nearest Apple Store (40 miles) for a replacement.
    The tech at the Apple Store did a factory reset.  Within 5 minutes, the battery had drained 4%, yet diagnostics said the battery was perfect!  While sitting idle in stand-by, the iPhone again turned itself on to the "slide to power off" screen.  He said he had never seen something like that before.  They immediately gave me a new, not refurbished, iPhone with iOS 7.0.4.  Both he and the supervisor told me not to update the software at this time and that most likely, an update to 7.1 would be in the works.

  • Ti 4400 Cold boot problem

    Odd problem.
    a) if i run a game anytime after a cold boot (even hours) I get flashing and tearing.
    b) if i warm boot the problem disappears completely.
    c) the problem seems independent of drivers.
    d) the problem 'may' be related to Athlon XP2100+ Cpu because I don't remember it happening before installing this.
    e) it happens with both Win Me and Xp
    It's no big deal because it's easily done but annoying and I wonder why it happens.

    No, it's not a bad card and it's not a 'warm up' issue.  The card worked fine until I put an Athlon 2100+ Xp in my A7M266 rev 1.05  board (bios 1007) . It's probably the board's bios or something as nobody else seems to have the problem with other boards.

  • MSI 975X Platinum PUE RAM Compability

    I'm sorry if this has already been posted, but I couldn't seem to find anything.
    Right now I'm using a matched pair (2x1 GB) of Kingston Value RAM PC5300, and they pretty good for the price.
    But these RAM, (and no, they're not ment for OCing, I know ) don't let me OC one single Mhz above FSB 333, so I would like to buy some faster RAM. But unfortunately I don't have a lot of money to spend.
    I've found a matched pair (2x1 GB) of Corsair XMS 2 PC6400 RAM, that are quite cheap.  Are the XMS 2 RAM compatible with my MSI i975X Platinum Power Up Edition mother board, or should I look elsewhere?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    All G.Skill 6400 ram seems to work a treat in this board. I changed my Geil for 2GB of G.Skill 6400-pk (4.4.4.12). I can now hit 400fsb and no longer have any restart ( warm boot issues). It was also cheap.
    They also do cas 5 sets too which are even cheaper.
    Can't recommend this ram enough with this board.

  • 845 ultra-aru

    Is there any way to resolve the warm boot issue with this board (845-ultra aru)????.
    I overclocked my 1.8A @ 2.4 (133*18) and worked 100% stable., but  when i restart my PC i get the warm boot issue and the FSB is reset to 100.
    Anyone please????

    GeForce 4 MX440 (MSI-8888) @ STOCK SPEEDS

    (Sorry for my english)

    Frustrating isn't it?  The only way I could circumvent it was by doing vidpin wrapping (wrapping pins 1-3) so my vcore range was 1.8 through 1.85 and I never had an warm boot issues running my 1.8a at 2.4.  It's a drastic solution.  Since this board now appears in MSI's archives, rather than actively sold motherboards, it seems unlikely we are going to see any fix for this issue.  From what I understand, most 845D motherboards suffer this problem but one manufacturer managed to fix it (can't remember which).
    The other nasty limitation is the lack of core voltages above 1.65 and I don't think we'll ever see that changed either.

  • Apps close fast, battery drain, warm phone, wifi...the issues go on

    For the last couple of weeks, by iPhone 4S has been running warm no matter where I keep it.  In addition, when I open an app, it may or may not open.  When it does open, it quickly closes almost immediately.  It is like trying to beat the clock to type a text or use any features.  My iPhone will also not hold the battery charge.  It drains to 'dead' within a few hours, if that.  The Wifi connection is spotty, too.  Recently relocating from California to South Korea, I can use Wifi in my neighborhood, but when traveling to another town, it works intermittenly.  When I try to sync my phone to my laptop, it often does not complete a sync, but will restart if I barely touch the phone when it is trying to sync. And, somehow, since the new OS install, my app store on my phone is all in Korean.  Not sure how to change this back to English.  Everything else on my phone is in English.  I have to go into my iTunes on my computer to download any of the appupdates since this is stil in English.  My settings are all set to English.  I have barely had this iPhone for one year, receiving it in early October, 2011.
    Whille I was briefly home in the States over the last 6 months, I visited the Apple stores quite often as there are many glitches when you are using a pc laptop with Outlook 2010 & trying to perfectly sync with the iPhone.  I hope soon to invest in a Mac.  But until then....
    This battery/app issue has happened in the not so distant past.  Returning to the Apple store, the Apple expert did end up saving all my information, erasing my phone & reinstalling everything.  It took forever & I lost all of my settings & personalized stored data in my apps.  I really hope there is another solution to my current crisis.
    I hope to hear from you soon as this situation is quite frustrating.
    Also, can I Skype with Apple support?  A phone call costs $2.29 a minute (no matter who calls first).  Besides, I am not sure my phone will hold a conversation right now.
    BTW, I did install the new OS recently, too.
    Thank you for getting back to me asap...

  • MacBookPro warm problem and slow issue.

    Hi,

    The problem may OS.X Lion? I have a Macbook air and an Imac with Leopard and I'm very happy with those.
    Like I said last night (but the post has been removed) I'm desapointed with my MacBookPro. I should not say "I'm desapointed" that again... because I will got no help to fix my issue and I will see my post removed again.
    Anyway, Some of you guy's got the same problem I have? Someone has resolved this problem? Don't tell me to put my Mac in the fridge please. If I got my Macbookpro on my knees and I use it to work my stuff, after 2 minutes it turn in a oven and I can't stand it, and of course he got slow and froze.
    Thank you for any help.
