Verizon changed my plan to one over $1000/mth without my consent......

First, let me say that I have been a loyal Verizon Wireless customer for something like 12 years now.
I noticed that mine and my wife's plan went from around $140 per month to around $180/month in Nov and Dec 2014.  On January 2nd, I called and talked with man at Verizon who told me that for some reason our two phone lines were changed from a combined plan to separate plans--that is why the cost increase.  He could not tell my why or who made that change but he would only add a $25 credit back to our account and said he was putting us on a combined plan for $140/month with 10 gigs data.  Great!  I wanted more credit back but oh well.......
Then, I get a text around 2 weeks later that says my upcoming Verizon bill is over $1100.  WHAT!!!!????  I immediately call and get a nice woman at Verizon who tells me that the previous gentleman that I called put me on an 80 gig plan that costs over $1000/month.  She was very sorry and after something like an hour with her on the phone she said: a) the previous gentlemen who put me on that plan would get talked to by management, b) she would put me on that $140/month 10 gig plan, c)she would submit a request for the $1000+ credit to my account that would take 3-4 days to be approved.
Next, I checked my account balance over the next two weeks and called a couple of times and each time was told that the request would definitely go through but hadn't yet.
Then, I went to a corporate Verizon Store ( a one hour drive since I live in rural Montana) because I thought that a face-to-face conversation might help.  I was told the same thing.  The request for credit/refund was in and would be approved soon.  I should be patient.  It was their fault but it was a large amount so takes time.
Finally, I just got a text message showing a credit had come through. Only it was not for $1000+ that I was charged for Verizon's mistake.  It was for a measly $125..........and my bill due is still over $1000.  What should I think is going on??  I have a huge outrageous bill due to a mistake by Verizon putting me on a 80 gig plan when I use around 4.5 gigs/month and they refund me 1/10th of their mistake?  Is this how loyal customers of 12 years are treated?  Am I going to have to switch to Straight Talk?  If I wanted bad/non-existent customer service I would already be with Straight Talk.
Does anyone know who I can talk to to resolve this?  I have not gotten anywhere yet and am getting towards the end of my rope. Is there some kind of federal or state authority that can help me with this?  I really don't want to have to get a lawyer to resolve this.  Please help
Kurt

Similar thing happened to me!! Only not as much money as that. Here's the story. I was receiving phone calls from a Jamaica number, each call I ignored. After several attempts I googled this number and learned it was a scam. I then proceeded to put this number on my block list. Well, since it was in my recent history, in my purse, for some reason my phone called the Jamaica number back. When I went to retrieve my phone it said it was on the phone with this number for over an hour. Realizing this I immediately called verizon customer service to tell them what happened and explained that it was not my fault, and that I don't want to be charged for it. The guy said i would not and if something happened to call up and they'll fix it. Well, when I received my bill I was charged $175 for this. I called up verizon, lady said bc it was an outgoing call the charges stood. I said no and talked to supervisor sherika anderson. She assured me that the charges will be dropped and she would just have to wait for approval (24 hrs) and gave me her email if I had problems. I emailed her, she never responded. Called a week later about the same problem. The representative (alan) said the charges will be dropped and I could minus them off my bill and just pay the remaining balance. I checked my online bill a few days later and the charges remained. I called yet again, told the lady the same story, she said she would just need to get it approved by her supervisor and they will be taken off. Spoke to the supervisor who said he'd give me a confirmation number. I received it. Yet AGAIN it was not taken off and I called again (last time) this representative (anita taylor) said that the previous records showed the claim was denied. I said well all the other people and supervisors told me that they would take it off and then why would they say that if in fact it was denied? I called a total of 5 times over this issue, each of them lying to me and telling me it had been taken off. Now I have a late charge for something that THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE OFF MY BILL. I think it is absolutely ridiculous to pay for something I didn't even do. I have been a loyal customer to verizon for 10 years. The minute my contract is over I'm taking my family plan elsewhere.

Do I take my 5 phones and go else where????
Family dealing with live threatening illness has caused delay in staying on phone with Verizon to clear this up. I've been with Verizon since 2001 and I have 5 phones with them. I had unlimited data on 2 phones since data was available on cell phones. Now I only have it on one. They crossed my childrens phone with mine and this took off my unlimited data on my person phone. The other phone was not affected.  On Jan. 14, 2015 they see where this happened and now say they can't change it back. "We know they have the codes to change this".
Nov. 2013 I placed order for two new phones for Christmas presents for kids.
Half the phones arrived and with the wrong size phone cases.
    No phones until AFTER Christmas.
Due to family member in ICU for a month. Mom couldn't stay on phone with Verizon customer service, trying to clear this all up.
Phones, all but two are working, for a short period, then three not working right.
Kept calling and on Feb 2, 2014 Verizon wirless told me to take the phones to a local Verizon retail store to have them change the settings on the two phones. At that time Verizon changed my data plan service while 2 of my cell phones were connected together. Voice and messaging service wasn't corrected until Apri 2014l and new service plan was in place from date of first call about mixup, (Feb 2, 2014)
Repeated calls to fix situation lead to retail store, (Roseville, CA. on Douglas BLVD) removing sim card from new Iphone 5S, pocketing it and installing brand new sim card, but nothing done with Iphone 4S (that was still connected to 5S).

More attempts to get unlimited data plan back on my phone has been meet with all "training excuses" taught to service reps. and I'm told they can't restore my original plan.
I know there is a code and the correct numbers that can restore this. I'm told this each time Verizon calls and wants myself or a family member to upgrade.
The phone call to customer service on Aug. 30, 2014 was to report my deaf daughter's phone being stole at the hospital ER. An order was placed and confirmed for a new phone to be sent overnight to my daughter.
The phone never arrived, no call from insurance company or Verizon as to why the phone was returned to them.
More phone calls lead to the discovery that "Leonard had typed in address incorrectly".
I had to go out and buy daughter a prepaid phone as texting is her only way of communicating her needs.
Verizon sent me notice the service to said phone had to have service charges restarted again, because it had been suspended too long. I was charged for said stolen, not replaced, invisible phone.
Received call Jan 14, 2015, sales rep. (female). Asking me to purchase new equipment. ?????
I explained all past issues and she contacted "Customer Loyalty" supervisor Lupee. at 11:00am. Arrangements were put in place for Lupee to return my call after he reviewed case on his desk.No call yet, I called them at 12:51 pm. The girl that answered asked me if there was a time set for the call back? I told her I understood he would call right back. 12:56 pm Lupee called back, (Note: look how fast the line of communication was on their end????) and we talked till about 2:pm.
After talking all that time, this is what Lupee had to say: "He isn't in position to make changes to my service plan......wanted me to take new one "The More Plan". I only want my "Unlimited Data Plan" back. I have now stated this 9 times to him.  He was able to see where plan was changed, *without my authorization". Only corp. can make changes at this date. I'm not asking for reimbursement for additional fees charge all this time, I just want my "Unlimited Data Restored". Stop trying to talk me into another plan, to buy another phone, etc. "Please".
I'll call again when I have a whole day to waste.
I'LL KEEP ALL OF YOU UP TO DATE ON THIS ADVENTURE AS WE GO ALONG. I STILL HAVE HOPE THAT THEY WILL COME THROUGH SO I DON'T HAVE TO GO TO "S".
Today had to get number changed for the "old" phone that my daughter needs and I'm Paying For. The old number is a drug ring!!!!!!!!!

  • Verizon changed my plan without my permission!!!!!!!!!!!! I called them and got no resolution!

I received a bill today (March 13th) of $472.17. I went online to see why and I saw charges for international calling, but I wondered why if I had a Mexico/Canada plan so I called to see what was going on. I was on the phone with them for 42 minutes and they told me that my plan was changed to only US back on February 10th. I told them I did not make that change because why would I do that if I know I need Mexico/Canada service. I was transferred to the Fraud Department who said they would take care of. Call ended.
I went online to check how much I had been reimbursed and it was only $48!!!! Not even half of what I was charged. I was charged about $214.
I called for the 2nd time and was on the phone with them for 1 hour and 41 minutes. I told the representative exactly what happened she was not able to do much so she transferred me to her supervisor and he said he couldn't do much so he transferred me to another person. That other person had no clue what I was talking about and said he wasn't the person I needed to speak with so he transferred me to Customer Service. The person from Customer Service said he could not help me, but the Fraud Department would so I talked to them. Every time I was transferred I had to say the story over and over and over and over and I got NO WHERE! The last person I spoke to in the Fraud Department said that she opened a case and they would investigate.
This is ridiculous!!!! The amount of time I was on the phone and still no resolution! How disappointing! I need this to get resolved as soon as possible! It was a system error! I don't think its too hard to take care of! I did not make the change! Why in the world would I change the plan if I knew I needed the Canada/ Mexico plan???????????????

a grandfathered unlimited plan is only good as long as you don't make changes.  You can't transfer it, or use an upgrade.
    You did, you lost it.

  • HT5622 I have two iPhones using the same Apple ID. I want to change the ID on one of the phones without changing the other. Can it be done without affecting the other devices that use the ID.

How can I change the Apple ID on one phone but the other. Right now they both use the same ID.

    Sure.
For the iTunes/App store...Settings>iTunes/App Store...tap the ID shown, sign out...now, sign back in with the ID you want to use. Be aware, any apps obtained with the old ID can only be updated using that ID, as all apps are forever tied to the ID used to obtain them.
Fir iCloud: Settings>iCloud...turn everything off, including Find My Phone. For Contacts/Calendars, you'll be prompted to keep the data on the phone or delete it...your choice. Then, scroll down, Delete Account. Now, set everything back up using the new ID.
This won't affect any data stored at iCloud.com, or any other devices.

  • Phone line taken over by SKY without my consent ! ...

Yesterday I woke up to find my phone and broadband was not working.
I called BT customer service, to my surprise they told me that my account has been ceased because SKY has taken it over. I never asked SKY to take my services or BT to terminate my account.
    How BT can act irresponsibly?
How BT can be such a irresponsible to terminate the services without getting confirmation from me? Is this not a kind of joke? Did they check any security questions, even the phone number to terminate the service? Can any other company call BT and take over my services? This is the most absurd service I have ever came across.
    Big question mark for Sky:
How SKY can ask BT to stop services when he is not authorized to do so? Did they get owner (in this case my) permission to do so? Did they check any ID of the person who asked to do so? Can I call them to get anybody's service terminated ?
Now I do not want to change my phone number at any cost, so first thing was re-order from BT. New installation date is set to be 21st Oct.
I just got call from BT that my ORDER HAS BEEN CANCELLED because line belong to SKY now.

Greetings Phyo! I would very much like to assist you with your internet concerns. However, Verizon Wireless service is currently offered only in the United States and we don't interface with the internet services you've mentioned in your post. It is when our customers travel overseas that they can use the service of our global partners at special rates. If I can be of other assistance, please let me know. Thanks for contacting me through VZW Community Forums!

  • Change my new prepaid plan or start over?

My ultimate goal is to get an LG Cosmos on $35 prepaid plan.
I took a gamble an bought a LG env3 because it is an older phone with 3mp camera and flash. I read that people would buy this phone and then call to cancel the data plan. Perhaps these people's situations were different because this information was within the last year or so. I was looking to use it on the $35 prepaid plan. However, things have changed so the only option was a $60 monthly plan with 2gb data. This plan is better suited for the new smartphones you can get on prepaid. If I wanted that I would have got that instead.
So I have an older phone with less capabilities to take advantage of today's standard offerings yet paying for the same. I don't want to pay for it anyways.
I have already paid for one month at $60. I activated July 19th. Can I buy an LG Cosmos prepaid version (Amazon, eBay [Verizon doesnt appear to let you buy the phone by itself) and activate now and then will that $60 I spent go towards changing my plan to $35 monthly? Or I am stuck with this month's service under the $60 and need to wait til end of month? Or should I just let my service cancel after month and start over with a LG Cosmo prepaid purchase account through Verizion store?
I am kind of afraid to take a risk with a phone off amazon to activate on this account. Stories of people getting phones that need to wait 6 months... I feel more comfortable with a phone from verizon directly and any warranty benefits that entails.
If I have to get a new number it is not a big deal.

    Hi Le Etta,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Take a look at the article below, it provides details and instructions for multiple ways of moving the music from an old computer to a new one.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer

    Method
    Considerations
    Home Sharing
The easiest option, as long as your new computer is already connected to the Internet.
    External drive
Requires additional hardware but backs up your iTunes library.
    Transferring purchases
Fastest, but only moves the content you purchased from the iTunes Store. Also requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod with the content on it.
    Windows Migration Assistant
Works best for migrating from an old PC to a new Mac, and transfers more than iTunes.

So my phone got wet the other day. I dried it out completely, but the touch screen still isn't working. Is there anything I can do short of getting a new phone? Anything that can be done at the nearest Verizon store? I am one of three phones on our plan and I am trying not to need to get a new phone before our contract expires next month.

    Hello wetphone!
We're sorry to hear that your phone isn't working. It's very important to have a functioning touchscreen!  Let's explore your options OK? If the phone is taken to a store, troubleshooting can indeed be done. The store representative can even contact us while you're there.  Do you have insurance on the device? Or, do you maybe have a prior vzw device that can be activated until the upgrade is available? You can also check your My Verizon account to see if your line( or another line on the account) is eligible for an upgrade. VZW always has options for you.

  • I do not want to change my plan, but want to upgrade my device is that possible anymore?

I want to upgrade my families phones but i do not want to change my plans one bit, will the big bad cell phone company let me do that or are they going to be horrible and make me change and yes I will only have a smart phone.

I just went through the same thing. Unfortunately, I was not aware that the plans had changed and went in for my 2 year upgrade under the impression that my plan would stay the same, as it has for the last several years. I was told that they were no longer grandfathering customers into the unlimited data plan any longer UNLESS I was to pay FULL RETAIL price of the phone I was upgrading to, even though I was eligible for the discounted upgrade. I was very annoyed to say the least. If you upgrade and do not want to pay full retail price for your new phones you will be forced to change your plan. They back you into a corner and you have to choose one or the other. Personally, I think it's a load of garbage. I've been a Verizon customer for over 12 years and do not feel like a valued customer at all. I was perfectly happy with the plan I had because I had the ability to choose what was right for me. Sadly, Verizon no longer offers any variety in their plan structures to suit everyone's needs nor do they allow the ability to customize your plan according to your usage. Now you have a choice of share everything with 2gb or 4gb of data, or pay as you go plans where you'll get charged for every minute, every text and every mb of data used. I'm very disappointed.

  • Change of Plan fee

a couple months ago my husband dropped his phone and we upgraded to the iphone5. With that came the new shared plans that we did not want to deal with but had no choice so ok...we have one. Our bill was suppose to decrease but in fact it increased. So he called and was told that there was a change of plan fee of $30. Now I'm confused. We didn't ask to change our plan, we were told we had no choice because our unlimited plan no longer existed. My question is, when did this charge come about and why wasn't it discussed at the time and why are we being charged the fee because verizon no longer offers our original plan? This doesn't seem fair to be penalized for things we have no control over.

Where did you upgrade your husband's line? It sounds like it was a third party retailer since they don't have access to keep existing customers on the Nationwide plan. Also the upgrade fee ($30) was applied towards your bill instead of paying it at the purchase point as what is done at corporate stores or online at www.verizonwireless.com website.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • The dealer changed our plan without letting us know about disadvantage.

An authorized dealer changed our plan without letting us know what is going to be changed, and we didn't even know they are changing our plan on new contract, we just found out, they do not want to answer. I want to know if we can get back our old plan, as the contract was signed under false information.
This is the story happened today:
My mom, is the master holder of our VZW account, we've been using verizon for years and years, and we first got our smartphone when Verizon just started selling iphone 4, we ordered it online when it was just released.
The plan we had was family plan with unlimited data.
We did not used data that much for the most of the time, but we did used it a lot for some month - thanks to unlimited plan.
We were trying to keep our unlimited data plan, even when my mom lost her iphone 4, she didn't connect with her old phone (not the smart one) so that our unlimited data plan would not be changed.
The dealer we made contract for iphone 4 has moved, or disappeared, i don't know, so my mom had to find another verizon dealer who speaks Korean,
because she doesn't speak English at all - but she's the one who take care of the bills and this kind of stuffs as she has more available time than me.
I wanted iphone 5 when it was released, but wasn't really sure about paying for it to get upgraded because iphone 4 was doing pretty well enough for me.
Then she found this dealer in Korea Town ( Ultimate Wireless - at 6th), and she told me that they could get us the newest smartphone only for $75 -
iphone 5 for me, and Samsung note 3 for her.
I was like - 'Samsung maybe offer some sort of special rate, but I'm pretty sure Apple wouldn't sell their just-newly-released-phone for much low price than 2yr contract price.'
and my mom was like ' i don't know but they said they can do it for sure' - so i was like Ok, why not .
I guess that's about an year and half ago.
Now iphone 6 is here, and i looked up on my verizon account and Sadly, my contract ends next May or something.
So I told my mom about Verizon's iphone trade-in offer and I feel  sad about that I am not eligible for it right now.
My mom happened to visit this dealer again to add a new line in our plan, and she asked about that trade-in offer and mention that her daughter (me)
is sad that she is not eligible.
And that evening, my mom told me that they said they can do this trade-in thing for me.
and i was like what? how?
and she was like 'how do i know? they said they can do it so just told me to bring the old phone'
Well my mom, is 54 years old Korean born woman, who doesn't know about technology, English, or any complicated stuffs.
She doesn't even know what the term 'trade-in' means, so that I even had to explain her like it's an offer from verizon you give them old iphone 4 or above, and they give you $200 certificate. But only for new 2yr contracts.
She was like 'well, she said she ordered it already so just go pick it up'
She normally picks up the phone for me (since she's always around K-town, but im not) but today, I happened to have free time on afternoon, and she had some appointment so I had to go visit the dealer to pick up the phone.
So I went in, they were nice and kind, recognized my mom by mentioning her name.
She, the dealer, was a bit busy helping out other customer so I had to wait for a while -
While i was waiting for her, I just looked around inside of the store - like TV screens promoting new phones, and new plans and stuffs.
Finally she got back to me and brought out the iphone 6 from back -
    and she was like
'Not sure if you know, but your contract has not been end - so it's going to be like returning and getting back with the EDGE' (speaking Korean)
If i didn't see the 'EDGE' plan stuffs from the TV screen, i probably would just go ok- ok- ok- thanks.
But when she just mentioned 'EDGE', i felt something is not right.
so I asked her, what exactly the 'EDGE' is, and what is being changed.
she hesitated a bit -and said
'Um... so you now have 6 GB data.. and ..'
i was like what? no no. we have unlimited data plan since our very first smartphone - and we never changed plan and tried keep the plan when even we lost one of our phone.
    then she was like
    "um...but..it seems like it changed.."
SO i asked When did it changed.
and she was like "i don't know. But you guys use only 3GB anyway"
I was like ' well, that's not important how much we actually use our data. the thing is we never changed our plan to keep the unlimited data plan'
and she just ignored it and move to next issue - setting up the new iphone 6 for my number.
she was like 'You don't need to give us the old phone. the payments will be billed to your statement and it's going to be.."
She was saying everything quickly and just briefly in Korean. She sounds like YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR THE PHONE.
I didn't even know there is such thing like payment plan for buying a phone BEFORE I saw it on TV SCREEN while i was waiting.
And those promoting screens was made in English, while most of their customers are Korean who doesn't know English much.
and i was like "what? what payment? Are you saying I don't have to pay for the phone OR are you saying I'm paying for the phone every month?"
She was like " uh... I mean.. there's certain payment amount you are paying for iphone 5 currently, and this plan, there will be about $10 difference for the phone payment...and.."
I'm a person who raised in Korean till highschool I speak Much better Korean than English, but I was hard to understand what she was exactly saying
because she was saying everything so complicated.
So I tried to clarify: "Ok. so this phone - I am not getting it for free. Right?"
then she was like 'uh...yes - it's now free but you don't have to pay anything right now'
So I clarified again " so that means, I'm buying the phone. not free. right?"
and she was like "uh..but it's not that you buy this right now. It's about $30... so.."
She then was saying this very unclearly so that she sounded like the phone only costs $30.
"then why did you tell my mom that you can to trade-in deal for me?" I asked.
then she was like "I didn't tell her I can do trade-in. It's not trade-in"
So I told her" OK, as you know, she doesn't know about anything about this kind of stuffs. she doesn't even know the word 'trade-in' in English. She said she asked you about we bringing you the old phone and you get us $200 gift card so we would use that card to buy iphone 6 and she told me that you said YES YOU CAN DO IT, SO BRING THE IPHONE 4"
She paused for a while, and I asked her again "and what's up with the change of plan? Our plan was unlimited data. Did you tell my mom about changing the plan? If she knew plan's being changed, she would not do this with you, or she always asks me before signing a contract if there's any change. All i remember is you are getting us decent phones only for $75. How can you explain about this?"
I was amazed after hearing her answer
    "I don't know"
and her kind attitude was gone, she was like 'i don't have nothing to do or say'
I was so mad, told her to cancel the iphone 6, and I just left the store.
I'm not a person related to the law, but I've met some lawyer few times with my friends, and I remember hearing this story about fraud -
although the customer signed the contract on a stack of paper with small letters saying all about the terms and condition -
if the customer was been told differently than the actual contract info by seller, and the seller took advantage from it, then that could be counted as fraud.
I felt so conned and so sorry for my mom. I told her the story and she's mad, too.
My mom and I will look up the old statement and check records to see if we were paying for our phone during current contract and visit the dealer again if we find something odd.
But as from the story above, the dealer goes like she doesn't know anything about plan changes (even it was something she did) - so I don't really wanna talk about it with her.
So I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to go back to our old plan in the case when the plan was changed without user's acknowledgement.
Sorry to let you read this long story, sorry about temper.. but does anybody have idea on this sort of cases?

yes I knew it was too good to be true, so i was worried but their answer was don't worry it can be done, we are the authorized dealer.
If they fully told us about it, I wouldn't even upgrade my phone and just kept it up with my iphone 4 which I think is still working good for me.
ahh... I just feel so bad
I mean i might be ok with 6gb as we actually don't use that much for the most of the time, but still. This is wrong.
And they tried to do exactly same thing again. and just ignored the issue when I brought it up.
The reason I'm mad and want to get back my old plan is mainly because I feel we've been conned and lost something that we would not have lost without knowing it - and they knew about it all but hid it.
I don't know.. not just about losing the plan... but I think this is so wrong.

  • Why is it so hard to change my plan and upgrade my phone?

My droid 2 has not been working properly for the last month (send button for text broke) so I thought I would upgrade my phone to the droid 4 and go with a new plan ( 2 years is way up)....Wow, I'm getting treated like crap...I have been with verizon over 10 years and this has been the worst experience ever. They used to be a really customer service friendly company that made me feel like i was with the best carrier but that is not the experience they leave you with now.. I don't use that much data so i don't really care about the unlimited data but it's been a big issue with Verizon and they seem hell bent on getting me to pay for data on two phones even though the flip top i never used did not have data...
I have a flip phone that I added almost two years ago and pay about 15 a month for even though I have never used it. If I upgrade my plan which is over, they want me to pay an additional 30 for data access on a line I don't use? The first rep i talked to was pretty cool and he gave me some options to think about but he was also trying to get me to upgrade my second line which I really just want canceled. I have talked to three reps now and have been told three different things. Car salesman like to confuse customers too, it's an old but effective tool, but i really am losing patience with it. The last rep I talked to was not interested in helping me understand anything but was willing to help cancel my account. A store rep told me to stomp on my phone so it doesn't work at all and claim insurance so i won't have to pay the upgrade fee.  How is that ethical? I really just wanted to upgrade to the droid 4 and buy a car charger. I know i can't be the only one going through this. Any ideas?

Why did you get the "flip top" if you never used it? Seems like kind of a waste of money to pay $15/month for a phone you do not use.
Did you happen to get this line so you could get an upgrade for your other line when it wasn't yet eligible for a discounted upgrade? Sounds as if this may be the case. If so, when is the contract over with this "flip top" line? If you just want to cancel the line but you have not yet fulfilled the contract, you would have an ETF which I assume would be for a smartphone.
My idea would be to cancel the line you do not use if you want. If it is not under contract and you don't use the line, why would you keep it?  If it is under contract, you would have to weigh the cost of the ETF vs the cost of phone service over the remainder of the contract period.
If you want to upgrade the line you DO use to a Droid 4, you have a couple of choices to make. If you currently have unlimited data, you could keep your current calling plan and switch to tiered data since you do not need that much data. The lowest tier of data available is 2 GB at a cost of $30/month, approximately what you currently pay for unlimited.
Another option would be to switch to the Share Everything plan. The minimum cost for this with 1 smartphone would be $90/month($50/month for 1 GB of data and a $40/month line access fee). You haven't mentioned what you currently pay for service or what your current plan is, so you would have to compare this new charge with what you currently pay.
