Video & boot problem with p35 neo2

Hi all!
I recently ordered components to build 6 identical PC´s.
My problem is that they all have the same problem, and I obviously need help solving it
I chose the following components,
MSI P35 Neo2
Intel c2d e6750 2.66Ghz
XFX 8800GT Alpha dog
Corsair VS 2x1gb ddr2 667Mhz
160gb Seagate s-ata disc
Dvd-rw
Antec Sonata III with a 500D Earthwatt
The problem is that I can´t enter bios on any of the machines, the second i try i get either "green green red green" or the video dies.
I tried changing something randomly when the screen went black, the computer rebooted after i struck F10 + enter, I guess that is the standard "exit & save" key so it seems that it´s working, just that I can´t see anything.
Also, the only thing that booted was an original WinXP disc, got halfway through the installation and then the video died. Seems to be quite random, sometimes it happens after a few seconds, sometimes after a couple minutes.
I already tried with a different graphic card, single stick of ram, no hdd or rw, usb or ps/2 keyboard etc, so I´m running out of ideas.
I flashed to 1.8 on one of the machines, no difference.

I would suggest trying another brand of Graphics card besides XFX.  Because PCI-E Gen 2 is suppose to be backwards compatible with Gen 1; so XFX telling you that they are not compatible is a bunch of bull.  I'm running a BFG 8800 GTS 512 (a gen 2 card) in my system (P35D3) which is 1.0a compliant and I'm not having any problems.  I think it is more XFX is having trouble getting some of their Gen 2 cards to work in a Gen 1 PCI-E slot.
Psy
Probably, but returning the cards takes atleast a week, and i have til next wednesday to fix this.
The computers are bought to a meeting place, sort of community center as gaming computers, thus they are bought through a municipality.
So the normal 30-day etc don´t apply here, we have to pay a fee for each unit returned.
That´s why it would be nice if I could flash and get six working cards
I found a modified bios, now I only have to find another computer with a mobo that accepts this card, flash one of them and cross my fingers hoping it will work.
/ Jonas
small update:
Nothing new yet, i´m still searching for a computer to flash the card in and finding one was harder than i thought.
XFX hasn´t provided any new information, although i´m not surprised by that since i read kerrys whole thread including the xfx support ticket.
cheers, Jonas

  • Poll: Do you have cold boot problem with SB X-FI Fatal1t

    Hi guys:
I have post a thread regarding the cold boot problem with SB X-FI Fatalty and OCZ GameXStream 600W SLI power supply combination. Apparently, no one has answer to that . In addition, I have recently RMA'd my psu and received a brand-new unit. The same problem still exists. If the problem is really with the power supply, doesn't matter what kind of the setup I have, I should still have the cold-boot problem. However, it doesn't seem like that. Doesn't matter what kind of cards I put on the motherboard, as long as the SB X-FI Fatalty card is there, there is cold boot problem (even with the setup of cpu, mother, ram, and the sound card only, WITHOUT video card and harddri've). And for other different setup without the SB X-FI Fatalty card, there is no cold boot. The cpu and memory are running at stock speed.
My post regarding the cold boot issue:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=79753
There is one user on the forum saying he has the same problem. Therefore, I think it might be the imcompatibility between the X-FI Fatalty and OCZ GameXStream PSU.
I would like to know how many people that has the same problem that I am having. So I can possibly narrow down the problem and contact OCZ tech support or creative tech support with more information. It would also be benefitical to those who have the same problem as I do.
Please post your system setup as well in the thread.
Greatly appreciate your opinions. Message Edited by White_Hair on 2-02-200604:58 AM

I would venture to say that it isn't your powersupply, but more likely the X-Fi. I had troubles with my system, until I pulled out my X-Fi and replaced it with a non Creative Labs sound card. One of my troubles, which I incorrectly blamed on my powersupply was the ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard I had and the X-Fi XtremeMusic card, was after gaming for 4 hours, was the?sudden reboot of my system. Powersupply before, was an Antec TrueControl 2 550watt PSU. As it stands right now, I no longer have the parts mentioned and have a decent 700watt powersupply in my system, along with an ABIT AT8 32X motherboard. As you have probably seen there are a lot of problems with the X-Fi soundcards, and I in my right mind can't blame the motherboard, powersupply, motherboard chipset, ram, or any other component in ones system, if one is having trouble other than the X-Fi itself. I'll be honest, there is something quite frankly wrong with the X-Fi, and exactly what that is, I'll probably never know like most people.

  • Weird start up problem with K8N Neo2

    Hello all,
I'm hoping SOMEONE can help me with a very annoying and very perplexing problem with my Neo2. I've read quite a few posts and can't seem to find anything similar to my problem.
Ever since the first time I booted my setup I've gotten this problem where when I power up my PC all the fans start up and the HD starts to spin up as well, but then it makes this click, spins down, then spins back up, clicks, spins down... and well, you get the picture.  It keeps doing this until I power off the PC.
The first time this happened I thought the HD had died, especially since I heard a lot of people where having sudden deaths of their Deskstars. So I hooked up another HD I had lying around, but, same problem. So at least I knew the HD was not the problem, and here I was starting to think about how an excellent excuse this was to get a new WD Raptor, LOL!
After fiddling around with the connectors, the cables, the CPU and the memory, I made this last ditch effort to clear the CMOS. Well, low and behold, the damn thing booted up fine. I thought, oh well, sometimes the most obvious solutions are the ones that you never think about. So I install everything and turn it off. Next morning I wake up, turn on the PC, and the hard drive spins up, clicks, spins down, spins back up, clicks and I start to cry.
Well, for the past few days, whenever I want to use my PC I have to clear the CMOS to get it to boot. Stangely enough it works just fine if I don't power it down and after some grueling Doom 3 sessions.
Im thinking it might be a bad CMOS battery, but then it would still boot and it would just loose the settings, right? Or maybe I have a bad CMOS? Or is the board just plain defective?
I'll appreciate any help and insight you guys can give.

    Sounds like you are shorted out on a standoff or something. You may want to pull the motherboard and start fresh. Here is some good reading material at this point;

  • K8N NEO4 Platinum cold boot problem with 165 opteron?

I have this board and have a cold boot problem with my opteron. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Its starting to get very anooying.
    K8N NEO4 Platinum
    165 opty dual core
    2X1GB Ballistix PC4000
    160GB sata2
    7800GTX
    X-Fi platinum
    600 watt seasonic PSU

Well I am running them at the rated speed of 250 and the rated timings of 3-4-4-10 on the rated 2.8 volts. Ballistix have been known to die quickly when you throw to many volts at them for some reason. I dont get the cold boot problem with the OCZ. Once I finally get it to boot with the Ballistix it works just fine but the next morning I play hell to get it to boot again. I dont even get the main screen to let me get into bios. It just stays black. I have done all kinds of stress testing and ran memtest with no problems. I am really at a loss here.

  • Boot problems with K8N NEO Platinum(no video). SOLVED

I have this board for a few months now, but this week, when powering the system, it gave me no video.
It reads the HD and after a  little while all the lights in the D-Bracket go green. But still no video.
There are other simptoms that can help the diagnosis: sometimes i do get video, the system powers up perfectly. This happens when I repeatedly press the reset button, or try powering on and off, on and off...
I don't think it is cold boot problem, since when I successfully turn on the system and then turn it off, the same boot problem occurs I I try turning it on again.
Another thing is that when I turn it off through Windows, it doesnt actually turn off: the screen ges black, but the HD leds still blink for a looong time. I have to turn it off manually, then. Sometimes it actually turns off, but turn itself on again after 1 second.
So if the D-Bracket sais its all good, then what is bad?
    My System specs are
    Athlon 64 Venice 3000
    1 Gb Corsair DDR
    Leadtek Geforce 6600GT

Its solved now. There was a short circuit. The rouded isolators were placed in the upside of the board, and they should have been under the board. I changed it and all the problems are gone.
    Such a little thing... :D
What is a "rouded isolator" and where is it located.  I would like to see if this will fix my problem.  The same thing is happening to me.

  • Having Problems With The Neo2 ? Read This!!!!

    Hi,
i just bought a neo2 motherboard, with a p4 2,6 HT and 512 mb Kingston hyper ram ( 2 peaces of 256, else it won't use the dual bandwith :D)
In the beginning everything seemed fine, until i got some sudden reboots and other vague stuff. I read it could be the SB audigy messing things up. I removed the card and windows Xp pro runs fine now. no more sudden reboots or explorer not resonding crashes.
But, i still had problems with games crashing. I got reboots. After i set the "automatic reboot after crash" to false, i got blue screens or lock-ups in my games.
I wondered what it could be. Then i started to put my videocard ( a radeon 9700 pro 128 mb) in agp 4x mode instead of agp 8x! Now my games run without crashes, but benchmarks are not that high. 4780 marks with 3dmark 2003.
I think i will send msi and Ati a mail concerning this problem. I don't know if it is PSU related. Maybe the videocard demands a little more power in agp 8x mode.
    Well, having probs with you're NEO2 ??
remove the sb Audigy and turn the agp back to 4 using smartgart ( it's located in you're display settings screen ).
First i tought it was a PSU related problem, because i swapped my 350 Watt enermax with a Q-tec 400 watt psu. The 400 watt PSU died while i was gaming. Maybe the enermax is the better PSU :D So, it could still be a PSU related problem. Maybe the agp 8x settings demands a lot more from you're psu. Anyway, i'll receive a 550 watt Antec PSU soon, so i can check this out....
Btw. I cant run the motherboard in anything better than "slow" mode. In all other modes Xp won't boot. I haven't tryed it since the AGP is at 4X, but i don't think it will matter.
    Regards,
Welcome to the real world NEO :D

    Ok.....
i raised the memory voltage setting in the bios from 2.65 to 2.8 and the agp voltage from 1.5 to 1.7
Everything seems fine, but games crash back to the desktop now without an error message or the either lockup.
Whatever i do, i can't make the mobo crash in anything but games!
Btw. the following message caught my attention, when i ran f1 2002 with directx 8.1. Since i have directx 9, i haven't seen it anymore. Maybe because the ati-drivers are made for directx 9....

  • No Video, Possibly Problem With Cable?

Sorry i this is kinda long, I don't know how I can explain it shorter!
    I'm getting a strange problem.
Here are the steps that my computer goes through when I boot it up:
    1. Gets to the 38 (from LED debug panel) and beeps. I think that this is a sign that everything is working
    2. Keeps going through the different posts until around the 75 mark I have a choice:
--- If I just let my machine run, it goes back to 31: "Initialize onboard devices. Load Option ROM from BIOS to memory" and is stuck there.
--- However, If I press the delete key (which is the key to get me into BIOS) then it stays at 87: "Enter setup screen. BIOS setup if needed/requested.". Then, like I'm in BIOS, if I press escape then enter, it leaves 87 (which I'm guessing is BIOS) and goes to 31, like in the first option.
All this time, there is no video.
Because everything looks like it's doing all right (except for the video), as it makes sense that if there's no OS on a drive to boot into and the user doesn't access BIOS, that the computer should get stuck, I thought that the problem was probably with the video card.
I had another card on hand, also a PCIe card with the DVI port, so I tested that one as well, and it does the exact same thing as the other, so I'm guessing it's not a problem with my GPU.
I also know that my monitor works, as I've been using it or the past few months with my other computer. However, the only thing that's been changed with video is from using a VGA cable to a DVI one. There's no way to test with VGA with my current card, so I'm thinking that it might be a problem with my one and only DVI cable.
So, what do you all think? Am I right in my thinking? I'd rather figure out the source of the problem before buying another cable, just to test. Thanks a ton!

    Wow I feel dumb.
For anyone with the same problem in the future, remember to press the button that changes from VGA to DVI ><

  • Cold boot problem with X-FI Fata1ty card... Need serious help!

    Hey guys:
I just finished upgrading my computer. Realized that I have a cold boot problem. In order to identify the source of problem. I began the following test.
. Remove everything except, cpu, heatsink, ram, video card. Tried to boot with those devices. => No cold boot problem.
    2. Install the rest of the ram sticks (I have 4 x 52 in total). => No cold boot problem.
    3. Install the other video card (my setup is 7900gtx in SLI) => No cold boot problem.
    4. Install the Creative X-FI Fataty card. => COLD BOOT PROBLEM
Once the computer is shut down via the front power switch on the case, the computer will not boot again. To boot the computer, I need to switch off the main power switch on the back of the psu and switch it back on; then turn on the computer via the front power switch on the case. I tried the problem with and without the sound card. Whenever the sound card is installed. There is the problem. If there is no that sound card in my rig, then there won't be any cold-boot problem.

The onboard sound is disabled. Unfortunately I sold the Seasonic PSU to my friend. The OCZ GameXStream is suppose to be the higher grade psu than Seasonic PSU. Also, the cold boot problem only exists if the sound card is plugged to the motherboard. I tried change different pci slot. It doesn't seem to help the problem. • Strange problem with P35 Neo

    Hi there.
Got a strange problem with a computer that got a P35 Neo system board.
The problem I got, is that the computer don't boot. If I reset the CMOS,
I can get the computer to boot, but then it hungs on loading Vista.
Then I try to repair my Vista. Then the computer hungs while loading the DVD.
I have tried to boot with only one RAM in the computer, but the problem still
    there...
I have tried to reset the CMOS by changing the JPBAT (I think it called so) jumper
and to pull out the battery.
I have tried to disconnect all, but one HDD and but I can't say that it worked any
    better...
Any ideas how to find out the error?

What PSU you have? Corsair Powersupply 550W Black, ATX/EPS
Provide better details about memory sticks used. Corsair TWIN2X 6400C4DHX DDR2
What CPU? Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz
BIOS version onboard? Note sure, since I'm not right at the computer for the moment. But I think it's 1.0 since it is brand new from store.
Do memory check with >>Memtest86<< Well, it's kind of difficult, since the computer dont boot.

  • Overheating problems with 865PE Neo2-S ( 6728 )

I have the same problem with my MB. When the CPU is idle it's temperature is 42 degrees C, but when it get's stressed up it growes up to 62 degrees C. THe heatsink is well in place, and has good contact with the CPU as well as the fan which is working correctly. Once the temp grew up to even 72 degrees but when I touched the heatsink it wasn't hot as I suspected. Also quite often a situation happens when the graphics in a game are starting to get " jumpy " which is followed by sound slowing and eventually the computer stalls, so I think that the overheating is real. I would really use some assistance.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the CPU, CPU cooler or not even the casing fans.
    My system config is
    Pentium 4 2.8GHz C Processor
    MSI NEO2 865PE Mobo 512MB DDR333 Kingston (BIOS 1.1)
450W PSU w/4 Fans cooler system
    ATI Hercules Radeon 9500 Pro
    Iomega 48-24-48x CDRW
    WD SATA 36GB HDD
    WinXP Home SP1
    SB Live
    Creative 4400 Inspire 4.1 Speaker
When I boot up my PC, without running any application it is already 52 degree celsius.  After running General 5 it goes to 60+ ,  Dark Age of Camelot (Graphics intensive) it goes to 70 degree (Sometimes it just reboot while i am playing this game).  What is this?  My casing has 4 fans and my system temp is only 37 degree celsius.  How can my CPU temperature be so high when I didnt even overclock.  So what could be the cause of the problem.  Problematic Corecentre or MSI 865 PE NEO2 bug or whatever.  I really regret choosing this Mobo over Gigabyte PE1000.  FYI, my friend who fix the same system has the same problem as me.  So it is impossible that all of us didnt fixed our CPU cooler properly.

You should be fine running stock cooling (if you dont overclock) ...your problem is more likely to be airflow in and out of the case -to prove this try running with the side pannel/Casing off
If that works then you need to provide more airflow to the case not change your cpu cooler ...a bigger/more efficient CPU cooler will just increase you case temp unless you provide more airflow to the case

  • Video out problem with Dynex 32" 720p TV

Hi folks.  I bought my new Dynex TV a few days before New Years.  It's great, really sharp, and I've had no problems with it.  However, I do have a DVD recorder so I can record my games.  Tonight, I attempted to use the A/V output on my TV and connected them to my DVD recorder (which plugs into my computer).  I clicked "capture" and got an error telling me that a connection could not be established and that I should double check my cables.  I could hear the audio playing through my laptop speakers just fine.  I couldn't see the video, for some reason .
It's not the cables, I just took them off of my old TV to use them here.
What can I do?  Should I return my TV?

What about output from a gaming console, like a PS3? Is that only digital sources or does it matter how the PS3 is connected to the television to determine if's its a digital or analog signal?  Right now I get no output when I try to send the video of my PS3 to my composite video in on my computer's TV tuner card.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

  • Cd rom boot problems with MEGA 180

I recently recieved my MEGA 180 and have been unable to successfully install an OS because when I boot from CD, the computer freezes at various stages of installation. The point at which it freezes varies between the point at which the CD is initialized to anywhere in the windows xp setup process up untill the drive format. Occassionally the lockup coincides with an error copying a file, but this is not consistent. I have tried two different cd-rom drives as well as three different xp installation cds. Further I have run with 5 different sticks of ram (kingston and corsair). None of these changes have had any obvious effect.
Having read the warning labes regarding non MSI optical devices, I am tempted to think that may be the problem as I am not running on an MSI drive. However, the warning souned like it was about mechanical parts and thus I assume the ability of a drive to fit in the MEGA 180 case while opening and closing correctly.
I would appreciate any input you might have on this matter as I am finding this experience rather frustrating.

I had the exact same problem when upgrading from a 2100+ Palamino processor to a 2800+ Thoroghbred one. The screen had already dissappeared due to powering up with no monitor plugged in, so I tried a reinstall of Windows XP. It kept falling over randomly during the install process. I then swapper the CPU back and had no problems at all. I have since lapped the heatsink and reduced the FSB to 157MHz in the BIOS, and have not had a problem with the 2800+ CPU. I have not tried installing windows again, but feel this will be OK too.
My test is to run FujiFilm Snapshot Slideshow, which sends the CPU temp rocketting. I have found that when it goes above 70 C it starts getting unstable. I throttled the FSB back to 157MHz and it does not get to 70 C any more. In normal operation it never gets above 60 C, so I don't know why the slideshow takes so much CPU power

I purchased the TV in South Korea and haven't gotten to test it yet on a TV back in the US. I have my video out settings with wide screen turned off and set to NTSC (South Korea uses NTSC.) I've also tried every setting combination, and switching the cable connections with the same or similar results. Sorry if a similar problem has been posted elsewhere, but after searching, I couldn't find any similar behavior. Any ideas on what might be the cause? I don't have any other component devices to check if the component on the TV is bad.

I've got that same problem: iPod Touch 2nd Gen, Apple Component Cables, and an HD TV.
The funny thing is, the cable works fine with an iPod Classic (160 GB) but not for the iPod Touch. Can anyone explain why that is?

  • Boot problem with new HD

I have just bought a new HD (WD 120GB SE, ATA100, 8MB CACHE) for my PC. My old HD was a Quantum Fireball Plus AS 20.5GB. I had in mind to remove the old one and copy the 2 partitions from the old one to the new (3 Partitions made by Partition Magic). I used the Norton Ghost 9 to copy the partitions with the "copy one drive to another' option, also select the one partition to be "active" so it can boot the OS and copy the "master boot records" from the old HD. When i restart the PC with the new HD as master after the "veryfing DMI pool data" i should see the windows logo with the loading bar, but the only thing i get is under the "veryfing DMI pool data" the message "error loading operating system"! ! ! The same thing happens if i copy the partition (with the OS) to a dvd again with Norton Ghost and try to recover it. And the strangest thing is that i have the same problem if i try to install (clean) windows to the HD, it copies some files to the HD and when it restarts so it can continue installing windows shows the same message. I have download a diagnostic program from WD and there is no problem with the HD. I have taken the HD to a friend of mine and it works fine. I forgot to mention that both bios and windows detect the HD. When i use the HD as slave, i can copy/cut files/folders with no problem in windows. I have the latest ver. of bios and nForce drivers. PLEASE HELP ME! ! !!
    P.S. Sorry for my english. . .

If you use Ghost to copy from one disk to another and the geometry is different, it can happen that the result is not readable.
Simple way: plug disk as slave. Boot on the 20GB drive. Partition the new drive in windows. Copy the files.in windows. Activate the new partition as primary and bootable. Swap drives.
