Web Service problem: HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized

Hmm, I had a working set-up with Wireless Toolkit client communicating with Sun One Application Server 8 Web Service using 2004Q4 version of J2EE SDK. I just upgraded to 2005Q1 version, and noticed that the web service fails to work anymore.
I took a peek into the SOAP calls, and noticed that Appserver is now returning error message "HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized" with content of '0' instead of the SOAP envelope with correct response.
My web service doesn't use any authentication, confidentiality and integrity is set to 0, and there are no roles defined. I can access the web server root and WSDL file just nicely, the problem comes when the midlet connects to the server. It didn't exist with the previous version, everything worked fine there.
What might be the cause of this change in behavior? It seems like it's forcing me to authenticate but I don't want to and have no idea what kind of credentials it would then be asking for.

Ah, a bit testing and I figured it out myself. For some reason, to use the endpoint without authenticating, transport-guarantee & login-config should be left unset intead of 'none' which I used to have there. Mighty peculiar behavior - but it works now.

    Hi Dennis Ahaus,
If you are using Adaptive webservice model, you can provide the credentials as below.
    wdContext.currentXXXXElement().modelObject().setInvokerProperty(javax.xml.rpc.Stub.USERNAME_PROPERTY,"username");
    //           wdContext.currentXXXXElement().modelObject().setInvokerProperty(javax.xml.rpc.Stub.PASSWORD_PROPERTY,"password");

  • SSRS Web Service: works over wire, but 401 Unauthorized from server.

I'm trying to port a program from an older system to a new SSRS 2014 installation, and am having trouble with authorization.
The program uses the SSRS Web Service to get reports from the report server. At present, I can make the web service call from my development machine to the server, and the server responds correctly with the appropriate report. The problem is that I need
the program (making the report request) to run on the same machine as SSRS. When I deploy and run the program from the server (with the exact same credentials that worked over the wire), I get a 401 Unauthorized response.
I've been struggling with this all week, and have gotten nowhere. I'm sure there's something (probably something small) that I missed, but I just can't figure out what it could be. Would really appreciate any suggestions.

    Hi sbinder1,
According to your description, you have a problem which call web services to use report. It works on development environment. When it runs on report server, it get the 401 error even using same credential. Right?
In Reporting Services, the default authentication type is Windows Integrated authentication. Since we are not clear about your program and the authentication type. If this is an asp.net application with NTLM and you don't bind any credential in the
code, it may have "double hop" issue so that it will connect report with anonymous credential. In this scenario, please configure the Kerberos authentication for Reporting Services. Please refer to the links below:
    The Kerberos Double Hop Problem
Enabling Kerberos Authentication for Reporting Services
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

    Hi Ravi,
    it's the Java stack's port.
    Hi Venkata,
    1. Check whether service user maintained in the SM59 destination is with Roles of std. user PIAPPLUSER, PIISUSER
The Problem is, that the message is not processed in the PI. I don't see them at SXMB_MONI.
Today I see them on the RWB at the message-monitoring, but only because they are set after the 3rd try to send them to NDLV.
I can see the messages, after they are triggered, in the comm-channel-monitoring by selecting the appropriate channel.
    2. Check XIAPPLUSER is having this Role -SAP_XI_APPL_SERV_USER
Checked the PIAPPLUSER is having this Role -SAP_XI_APPL_SERV_USER
3.May be wrong password for user PIISUSER.
There was a pwd-change in january, but the passwords are all correctly replaced.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Can't re-add printer after removing from eprint center - 'Web Services Problem'

I have an HP Photosmart Premium C310 series printer (Model Number CN503B) which I have been using with ePrint for about 18 months. Aside from intermittent issues it has worked, I use a chromebook most of the time so rely on the ePrint option via Google Cloud Print.
Last week it stopped working, with every job in the list showing as cancelled. Following advice on the forum I removed the email address of the printer from the eprint center. I thought it would then be simple to add the printer back. However, I have been unable to connect the printer to the web service so I cannot create the code I need to add the printer back.
    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
    1. Factory reset printer settings
    2. Factory reset network settings
    3. Restart printer and Reboot router
    3. Settings -> Network -> Wireless Setup Wizard
    4. Choose correct SSID, enter password for WPA
    5. ‘Connected to Network’
    6. Settings -> Web -> Enable Web Services
    7. ‘Accept terms’ screen -> Accept
    8. ‘Checking for product updates’ screen shows briefly then returns to 'accept terms' screen
    9. Next it makes a ping sound and shows ‘Web Services Problem’ ‘Problem connecting to Web Services Server’, it then pings again a few seconds later (which ties in with what I see in the network logs as a second attempt)
    10. Log on to printer via web interface and set IP address of printer to manual IP outside DHCP range (as advice on other threads in this forum). Check DNS setting valid (same as gateway server which all other devices on network are also using successfully as DNS)
    11. Repeat steps 6 and 7 - still same error message
I consider myself technically savvy and have followed all advice I can find on this forum including the following:
    1. reverting to printer and network defaults
    2. rebooting router
    3. assigning static IP address to printer outside of DHCP range of router
    4. connecting to printer via web interface and setting DNS to variously: same as gateway, google DNS (8.8.8.8), ISP DNS
    5. adjusting firewall settings on router to explicitly allow and log outbound connection on the HP ports (already had a rule allowing all outbound connections)
As mentioned, the printer worked fine with ePrint previously so I suspect the ePrint server is rejecting a request from my printer for some reason, maybe because there is old / corrupt  data on the server regarding my specific printer.
I’m logging outbound traffic from the printer and here are what the router logs show me (printer IP replaced with 192.168.x.x below, even though it is not public )

Looks like both are HP sites: first is 'g4t2674.houston.hp.com' and the second secure one is ‘registration-pro-site2eprint.houston.hp.com’ which sound likely to be correct. That suggests the DNS is working but that the registration server doesn’t like the request for some reason.
I had the printer registered for Google Cloud Print but I have now deleted that also and it doesn’t seem to have made any difference (assume it just formats and forwards to the HP ePrint email anyway).
One hack that sheds some further light is to switch off wifi on the printer and then switch on ePrint. Eprint gives an error but stays set as 'on'. When I then switch wifi back on I can then at least check for product updates (it tells me I have the latest product updates). However, web services are still a 'no go'. Network traffic for that product update exchange looks like this:

So clearly the printer can communicate to those servers well enough to find it has the latest firmware.
I realise this is a lot of information but hopefully some of it is helpful for troubleshooting.
Thank you in advance for any help!

The issue disappeared this weekend. I didn't change anything so it must have been something server side. I notice others with the same issue have also seen it resolved.
Thanks to all those who contributed and tried to help out. Although disappointed I went for a long time without ePrint I'm glad that action was apparently taken to resolve in the end.

  • Web Service Problem! URLs are basically broken.

We recently updated our SQL Server 2012 SSRS implimentation from 11.0.3339 (SP1 CU2) to 11.0.3381 (SP1 CU6).   We are on Server 2008 R2 SP1.  I am pretty certain that this is related to the Cumulative update since I have 6 seperate
and entire clusters doing the same exact thing but I can't find a fix on CU7.
Two symptoms started popping up pointing to a problem with the SSRS Web service.
    Symptom 1
    1. Before the change, our emailed SSRS subscriptions were sent out with a valid link, now they error out.
    Reporting Services Error
An error occurred in the HTTP Runtime object for application domain ReportServer_MSSQLSERVER_0-96-130358835578081507. Most likely, the HTTP request contains an unsupported verb or invalid syntax. (rsHttpRuntimeError) Get Online Help
    Unable to validate data.
    SQL Server Reporting Services
    2. Before the change you could drill down our SSRS URL through the web service.
http://servername/reportserver/folder/report and then when you click on a report name, it would display the report, like you'd expect for the web service.  Now you get this error:
    Reporting Services Error
An error occurred in the HTTP Runtime object for application domain ReportServer_MSSQLSERVER_0-27-130358853340658138. Most likely, the HTTP request contains an unsupported verb or invalid syntax. (rsHttpRuntimeError) Get Online Help
    Unable to validate data.
    SQL Server Reporting Services
Can anyone else reproduce it or better yet do you know of a fix?
    Thanks,
    Keith

    Hi Keith,
The issue may be due to Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) was enabled on SSRS server. Please refer to the following steps to fix the issue:
Use Notepad to open the web.config file of Report Server and Report Manager. In SSRS 2012, the default location is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer
(Note: Please backup the file before modify it.)
Add the following <machineKey> section in the <system.web> section:
    <machineKey validationKey="AutoGenerate,IsolateApps" decryptionKey="AutoGenerate,IsolateApps" validation="3DES" decryption="3DES"/>
    Reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911722/en-us
    Hope this helps.

  • Error calling external web service over HTTPS

    Hi everyone
I'm trying to call an external web service over HTTPS, and continually get the following error:
com.sap.engine.services.webservices.espbase.wsdl.exceptions.WSDLException: Peer sent alert: Alert Fatal: handshake failure
I haven't tried doing this before, so not quite sure where to start. I have a client certificate that must be used to access the remote web service, and I think the problem is associating the client cert with the web service call.
Has anyone else tried this before? Any suggestions of where to look?
I've had a brief look at Key Storage in NWA, but it's not something I'm familiar with - so not sure if it's even the right place to be looking.
Some help on this would be great!
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Thanks Aleksandar
Here's the output from the trace. Unfortunately the SAP forums don't allow attachments, so it may be difficult to read. Please let me know if you see anything that may help.
    Thanks
    Stuart

  • How to invoke a web service using https

    Hi,
I have a few security related questions surrounding BPEL process manager.
    1. Does the BPEL engine have the capability to invoke a web service using https (HTTP over SSL)? Does it automatically do that if partner link URI starts with https:// ?
    2. If not, what needs to be done to enable accessing a https based web service?
    3. I need to write a web service that accepts a message and updates certain information in the database. The web service will be deployed in an OC4J instance in Oracle App Server. We want to allow the web service to be accessed from BPEL only by users registered in the database. What is the recommended way to pass username and password to a webservice if service is invoked from BPEL process manager? Note that specifying username/password in bpel.xml is not an option.
    Thanks,
    Pranav

We currently don't have support for HTTP over SSl. We are working on it to include this functionality in near future.
    2. If not, what needs to be done to enable accessing a https based web service?
I am not sure it is possible with current product offering. I will confirm it after discussing with our concerned development group. There is some work going to integrate with Oblix security mechanism [recently acquired by Oracle].

This will be easier to do if we can use Oblix along with BPEL PM. Could you please let us know more about your application so that we can provide you the customized solution till it's part of the product. You can send this query to [email protected] so that our product management team can give you more detailed roadmap regarding this.

    Hi all,
I met a web service problem recently.

2 For that reason, I tried to migrant my web service from the java application server to Tomcat5.5. I deployed my web service to folder webApps. But I don't know the WSDL url of the web service, which is the web reference for my frent-end c#.net application.
Anybody can give me some idea?

As the error indicates, the username/PWD you are using in file adapter to write the file (FTP) at target location is incorrect and hence the error. Please check and let us know.
    3) Error: HTTP_RESP_STATUS_CODE_NOT_OK 401 Unauthorized
Description: The request requires user authentication
    Possible Tips:
u2022 Check XIAPPLUSER is having this Role -SAP_XI_APPL_SERV_USER
u2022 If the error is in Adapter Engine
u2013then have a look into SAP note- 821026, Delete the Adapter Engine cache in transaction SXI_CACHE Goto --> Cache.
u2022 May be wrong password for user XIISUSER
u2022 May be wrong password for user XIAFUSER
u2013 for this Check the Exchange Profile and transaction SU01, try to reset the password -Restart the J2EE Engine to activate changes in the Exchange Profile After doing this, you can restart the message

  • Any OOB Web Service or HTTP adapter in OIM for Recon?

Is there any OOB, Web Service or HTTP adapter available in OIM using which, User account data can be reconciled from a SOA service?

Ya web service is available. You can go through Design Console Guide chapter 12 for more. If you need any help for that just let me know.
Depends on the OIM Installation, you have to run the following commans:
    For windows-
    OIM_HOME_Dir\setup\spml_AppServerName.cmd appserver_admin_password oim_db_user_password
    For unix:
    OIM_HOME_Dir/setup/spml_AppServerName.sh appserver_admin_password oim_db_user_password
    These are for non-clustered environment.
If you want to create your won WS, then
Create a dummy RO in OIM and your favorite java web service package (i.e. Apache Axis2) and create a small server app (i.e follow the example in the quick start (qs) guide in Axis2). Deploy the server side app on any app server that you happen to have handy (or follow the instructions Axis2 qs guide). Deploy the client side as provisioning process for your dummy object.
